darkelf: My advice to you is this ehn: This present crop of SE with the coach does not inspire confidence. To tell you how unserious they are, why didn't we see the red eyes against Madagascar? This set are a highly disappointing side especially when you most expect them to perform.
What are they having red eyes against Madagascar for? Didn't you see their red eyes when they played Burundi and Guinea, which were two more important games. Continue. And if we lose don't forget to come here and start shouting "I said it, I said it" |

TheGoodJoe: Remember, there was Mendy, before Delph and then Zinchenko. Now in some games, Guardiola prefers to even start Zinchenko when Mendy and Delph are fit. That shows a lot how the young man has grown.
In Ukraine, Zinchenko who you pointed above, was a winger plays as a Defensive midfielder. This is due to the young man's insane brilliance in understanding tactical play and movement.
If you like, call it Mumu growth. Who else has noticed that TheGoodJoe doesn't discuss the Super Eagles any more. |

TheSuperNerd: It may seem unpopular Dad... But dropping Iheanacho, even though deserved, was possibly one of the mistakes Rohr made. He is the only natural SS we have and is our best setpiece taker. I have said it long before now... Nacho is key to this new golden generation and will be back to continue his contributions. This is just his nadir point and he must rise to be counted worthy again.
All the same... We await whoever we are bound to take on now.
Solace earlier today did a pathway check to the final had Nigeria finished first. He said a potential quarter final meeting with Cameroun awaits and if we survive that, then a potential Semi final game vs Egypt awaits. Could we have dodged a bullet with this loss? Loolll... Time will tell Yes Iheanacho deservedly dropped, but he would have provided more attacking option as an SS, if not for his deep in form. From that group F, people are already suggesting we are playing Ghana in the 2nd round but I believe that group is still very open. Ghana can finish first and Cameroon second in the group. Benin can also finish first, Cameroon second and Ghana 3rd. Even Guinea-Bissau can finish second. It is still very open. On our attacking setup. I don't like this Rohr's monotonous lone striker approach. Once the lone striker is crowded out that's all. I think Rohr should experiment one of Onyekuru or Chukwueze as an SS. A 4-4-2 can easily switch to 4-2-4 when on the offensive and that means more firing power and more scoring Opportunities. |

I have said it before and will continue to say it. Rohr is a good Team manager but the NFF should please get him a tactician. |
Sports › Re: "The Super Eagles Thread: The Road To AFCON 2027, 2028 And 2030 World Cup by Icon4s(m): 9:11pm On Jun 30, 2019 |
TheSuperNerd: At Bolded.... Dad, Yes, you make a good point here. We had already qualified.
I recall at Chile 2015 U-17 WC, our Nwakali-led team lost to Croatia in the last group game but we went all the way to the title. We had already qualified and losing that game didn't mean we are suddenly poor.
Now, Boss Joseph1013 asked someone here a very good and Valid question.
"If this Madagascar game was a must-win game, do you think Rohr would have gone for this starting lineup?"
The answer to this question is obviously No. And that question shows a brilliant angle at looking at this loss. A loss coming in a dead rubber game. We were only playing to finish first. We rested our key players and made more changes to the lineup. Very valid points.
Now, I have no doubt we would emerge a different force in the round of 16 because Iwobi, Ndidi and Omeruo will return to the starting lineup. Chukwueze will hopefully get to be involved either from the start or from the bench (in case Simon or a fitter Kalu start).
The team lineup that beat Guinea will not lose to Madagascar. I know this much. But even at that, this team should have been better than this today and eve won this game if Rohr had put the players he picked for the right roles. Why toy with Mikel as an AM again against this die-hard Madagascar team looking to knock off a giant's head like David did? Why play Ogu as box-to-box? Why play Etebo as DM? Why start an unfit Kalu?
And to the players... Why Balogun, oh why wait for the ball to come to you?? Thus allowing a player that was behind you now get ahead of you, win the ball and score (not without disgracing Ezenwa).
See ehn Dad..... I know we were complacent defensively but Rohr's tactical set-up was the real miry clay today. The players he started today should be getting a win over Madagascar 5 out of 5 times if only they were deployed in the right roles.
But in all.... Let us see if this is the Chile 2015 Golden Eaglets scenario all over again. But I am now beyond convinced that Rohr is not the man to take our new heavy potentially golden generation to the land of "milk and honey"(translate that as Titles and Glories).
Even France with Didier Deschamps is crap. He may have won the World cup but it was not down to his tactical acumen. It was down to his squad's pool of unreal talents hungry for Glory. Now, he is being exposed for his tactical limitations and monotonous utility of France's deep pool of high bad ass quality talents ..... He is not the man to make France's WC triumph usher in a golden era of French domination. He lacks that bravery too but is tactically better than Rohr at least.
Nigeria's current rise of beastly talents deserve much better. I am focused on the long term and not jut short term glories. Our trophies cannot be easy qualifications for majors. And winning this Afcon will only cover the cracks that reads... "Rohr is not our Joshua. He is only a Moses." The changes in the setup of the team were too many. There were no tactical changes even as we were chasing the game. All substitutions were "like for like". We are condemned to playing lone strikers in this tournament as we don't have an SS that can give us that two strikers option. Except we opt for a 3-5-2 formation with 2 false 9s. I repeat, we went to Egypt with too many wingers. Asides, lacking an SS, we are lean in the midfield. You are right about Kalu. He is not fully back. Besides, he didn't give his all. Probably trying to conserve energy to avoid a repeat of the fainting incident. I hope with the return of some of the more regular players the team will get back on track. |

Joebie: icon4s You said at least you wanted to see good football from SE How do you rate us so far? I guess you already agree that we are not winning this AFCON I am not writing the team off yet. Complaincancy affected the entire team. The number of changes were too many. The team was overly complaisant. We are better than this. We don't have credible midfield options. Time for Ogu and Mikel to take a bow. We need fresh Supply of young midfielders. Ogu and Balogun were responsible for that defensive error. Nightmarish first half for Balogun. Again, Rohr went to Egypt with surplus in natural wingers. That team doesn't have a natural supporting striker. And so we are condemned to lone striker setup all tournament. I always try not to judge a team with it's performance in its last group game if they had qualified before that game. Onwards, we take the matches as they come. |

I am shocked that no one in that Supersports studio is aware that Burundi are not out. Burundi just needs a win against Guinea and finish 3rd and wait for other 3rd placed teams to emerge before knowing if they will be among the top 4! For Yobo I am not surprised at his poor Permutational ability. After all at the 2010 WC after we lost our first two games he said we were out, not considering that we could still qualify if we beat S/Korea by any margin in the 3rd game and hope that Argentina beats Greece. His default thinking is once u lose your first two games you are out Again, 2011 qualifiers, a 2:1 win would have seen us through but we ended drawing 2:2 due to our pushing forward for a 3rd goal. Yobo was busy blaming the NFF for not telling the team that a 2:1 win was enough Recall also how the Nigerian press declared our golden Eaglets as having qualified for this year's U17 WC because we won our first 2 games, and not putting all the 6 group matches into perspective. We here really need to organize a course on Football permutations for many of these press men and football analysts. |

IronGalaxy: Lol, don't lie Iwobi is no regular, he's a bit part player at best and you need to check comments from Arsenal fans what they really think of him, you'll be humbled., Mustafi and Xhaka are also crappy players and they start from time to time. You really need to stop acting like everyone who plays in Europe is some Pele or something
Our league is made of crap players and yet many players from the continent have used it as their springboard to Europe. Your Emenike played in our second division before moving to Europe, check how many players in the Afcon come from our league, your number goalie also plays in our league as well and you have the guts to downplay it
There are myraid of reasons why our players don't move much to Europe. Some of our players refuse to move to countries like Greece, Turkey , Belgium etc because SA clubs can match them in salaries. It is to the detriment of our players but it's one of the reasons . We still have talent across Europe though, Photo, Dolly in France, that Leshabane boy at Leicester, Foster at Monaco, we have Mathews at Borussia Dortmund etc, it's just that Bafana coaches have not alway chosen the right players
Another lie, Egypt doesn't have a lot of players in Europe, only Salah and El Neny play for reputable European clubs the rest are home based dominated by Al ahly players , in fact North Africans have always boasted national teams dominated by home players while Algeria"s players surge into Europe' s big time is a recent phenomenon
Dean was playing in English league one so what? Don't act as if Nigerian players play for Real Madrid, Barcelona, Bayern et al. Odemwingie was playing at Rotherham not long ago as well and some of your players could be found at backwaters such as Vietnam, Cambodia, Thailand etc. Football is football, this European fixation is boring. Zambia won the Afcon with a team dominated by PSL beating a star studded Ivory Coast led by Drogba
Lastly, the fact that Tau was loaned by Brighton has nothing to do with his footballing prowess but has all to do with red tape. The team that Tau plays for is owned by the same owner that owns Brighton so since Tau can't play in the Premiership owing to permit issues it only makes sense that he plays for this team, they wouldn't buy him if they weren't interested in him. Would a Premiership directly buy a player plying his trade for Kano pillars to begin with? Oya name the Arsenal regulars. I dey wait. |
