i'm not one of those thou must win proponents when it comes to age grade teams. if we lose but show promise in terms of game play and talent of players paraded i will be content. that is one reason why i wont be harsh on amunike or manu garba even though they didn't excel too much with the u20s because they for the most part paraded genuine talented youngsters who have time to improve Kanu Nwankwo did not make the 1993 AYC team. He was dropped from the final squad and was redeployed to the Golden Eaglets. A better coach would have done better with this 2019 Flying Eagles team |

chrisooblog: that particular team had talented players kanu, taribo west. i remember watching their games as a child they played good football plus they were unlucky to be drawn in a tough group with ghana and cameroon who funny enough were the eventual finalists
i don't think sia1 went to the world cup then. yes different squads will produce one or two players but obviously talented ones tend to produce more Thanks for reminding me of Taribo. He was also part of the 93 Flying Eagles. Kanu didn't make the AYC team as he was dropped due to small physique then. He then joined the Golden Eaglets. Yes we later discovered we were drawn in a tough group because as at then Cameroon had never qualfied for any Youth Competition (U17 or U20). So Ghana was the only rated team aside Nigeria in that group. But Cameroon shocked us 1:0 in our opening game. Fast forward to 2019 i Know that if Nigeria should crash out in an AYC Group that has Ghana and Cameroon we will tag them the worst team ever no matter how they play. Because the only thing that can passify us are goals and victory. And as for Siasia, he missed the 1983 WYC because he was preparing for WAEC. He then featured in 85 and 87. Then it was U21. |

darkelf: Good then. We are on the same page The way peeps have been saying it as if the team is a total write off. We are often too quick to forget or we fail to realize that only very few players progress from youth to senior teams. If 2-3 players from this 2019 Flying Eagles make it across we move on. 2 years time again we select another few and move on. |

chrisooblog: the thing is how many players were gotten from previously poor u20 squads?
the 2001 squad you cited obodo is the only reasonable player who went on to do something tangible in the super eagles.
contrast that with fanny amun's "fumble and womble" 1995 squad how many do you remember doing anything impactful with the senior national team?
i can concede that these current squad of u20s are not total right offs but if more than 2 players from this current set go on to be future stalwarts of the super eagles i'll be very surprised So What of Okocha and Tijani Babangida of the 93 Flying Eagles that performed woefully Nduka Ugbade and Samson Siasia were part of that shambolic 87 Flying Eagles. Etim Esin too who could have been a great player but for his indiscipline. Football is a very funny game. We dey watch. |

darkelf: Icon4s. It isn't about just graduating to the Senior team. Its about playing excellently when they get there. Besides, you're quoting from ancient history. Times have changed and with the kind of coach we have in Rohr, 90% of those guys may not make the SE. It is not about ancient history. Osimhen, Chukwueze and Nwakali's set didn't even qualify for the AYC have they not made the SE? BTW if 90% don't make it that means10% of the 23 man squad will make it which means 2 or 3 players that's ok. After all how many of the Iheanacho's 2015 U20 are in the SE today? The AYC/WYC is every 2yrs so if we pick 2-4 top players from each set we are good. I am not expecting up 50% of them to make the Super Eagles. |

Humility017: I tell you with the way this under 20 team messed up recently we really need these foreign born players to reinforce the super eagles...time to come Believe it or leave it. Some of those Flying Eagles players will still graduate to the Super Eagles. Foreign born or Nigerian born. Like I said before, there is no Flying Eagles set that has not produced players for the national team. People have been tagging Aigbogun's Flying Eagles as the worst. I see them as people who are either miopic, mischievous, sentimental or a two young to have followed the Flying Eagles from decade to decade. Do you know that JJ Okocha and Tijani Babangida's set of 1993 Flying Eagles did not even qualify out of their AYC Group? I don't even want to mention the 87 Flying Eagles that got whipped by Brazil 4:0, Italy 2:0 and played 2:2 with Canada. That team which is the worst Nigerian team to any FIFA tournament had likes of Siasia, Etim Esin, Okosieme, Odiaka, Ugbade, Willie Opara all of who progressed to play for the Super Eagles. The 1997 Flying Eagles could not even qualify for the AYC as they lost on away goals rule to Sudan. That team had a certain Gbenga Okunowo who later played as a RB in Barcelona FC. What of the 2001 Flying Eagles that had Batholomew Ogbeche, Christian Obodo and Justice Christopher? They could not qualify from the 2001 AYC Group. They even lost 4:1 to Ghana in their last group game.A year after Ogbeche and Christopher were in the WC. I can go on and on. Every Flying Eagles set has always produced SE players. So please don't be so quick to write the 2019 Flying Eagles off. |

timay: Bros calm down. Norway are now average at best now and are very beatable by Nigeria.
Norway are not what they used to be again, they now rely on past glory as a former world champion. The teams to beat in this competition are France, USA and England. Any team outside this three is beatable if we keep our heads down and not panick. I'm still rooting for the falcons to make second round though, even if they qualify as best looser Did u see the result of the recent friendly between Norway and South Africa? 7-2 for Norway. Yes, Norway are no longer that force they used to be. They have regressed and more so have we. They are still in top 10, so they are still way ahead of us. A two goal margin defeat against Norway will be considered as a fair result for us. |

olukosiibitoye: Nobody expected the Flying Eagles to be knocked out early from the ongoing FIFA under-20 competition, given they have always gone far. As a matter of fact, Nigeria has made it to the final on two different occasions; 1989 and 2005, no wonder the awful and disappointing performance met a wide criticism in the country.
As it stands now, Paul Aigbogun and his boys will be remembered as the worst team in history that has ever represented Nigeria, especially in a FIFA tournament.

Earthquake2: U don't know Rohr, once you've impressed him in the GWG it would take you 3-4 bad matches for him to remove you Yeah. That is it. That is why it is always difficult to dispose of old players that may have temporarily lost form. Once the coach knows what u can do when u are in form he will always see that potential in u. That is why some of us see someone like Kelechi Iheanacho differently from how some of us here see him. |

chrisooblog: I will not totally dismiss the chances of the ladies in France and I think you are still judging them based on january's performance
I think the coach has tried to fine tune them into a defensively solid team that will be hard to break down which will thrive on the counter.
Realisticaly I'm targeting a win against South Korea and draw against Norway that should at least guarantee them 3rd place and qualification for the second round.
as poor as you think dennerby is he has won a trophy Aigbogun non My brother, female football is not like male football. There are usually no surprise results in female football. Ur result is often as good or as bad as u can get. The games against France and Norway are already two heavy losses. The team we are closest to there is South Korea. And i tell u a draw in that game will mark progress for us. |

mostob: Uchenna Grace Kanu Jersey no.12 Date of birth: 20.06.1997 (21yrs) Height: 176 cm Weight: 66 kg Position: Striker Club: Southeastern University, USA. FIFA World Cup Appearances: ( Debut ) A versatile attacker, Kanu is capable of playing on either wing as well as through the centre of the pitch, and while ostensibly left-footed, she's very strong with both feet. She is ranks among the world's young fastest female footballers, both with and without the ball. The Abia, Nigeria native set a new NAIA single-season record in goals scored with 57 goals netted this past season, which helped Kanu to earn the distinction of being the 2018 United Soccer Coaches NAIA Player of the Year. During her three years at Southeastern, women's soccer player Uchenna Kanu has scored 115 goals and has recorded 32 assists. She has been The Sun Conference Player of the Year each of the last two seasons, First Team All-Conference the past three seasons, and was a First Team NAIA All-American this past season. She has developed a muscular body type that allows her to retain possession of the ball, and strong legs that make up for an outstanding jumping ability. Her strength and jumping ability, combined with her elevation, heading accuracy, and height of 1.76m, gives her an edge in winning aerial challenges for balls. These attributes allow her to function as a target-woman, and make her an aerial goal threat in the penalty area; consequently, many of her goals have been headers. Allied with her increased stamina and work-rate, her goalscoring ability improved drastically on the left wing where she has been given the positional by SEU Coach freedom to move into the centre to finish attacks. She has increasingly played a creative role for her team, often dropping deep to pick up the ball, participate in the build-up of plays, and create chances for her teammates, courtesy of her good vision and passing ability. She also played for Pensacola FC in the WPSL in 2018. She has been the best U21 Women Footballer in Africa for over 3 years now. She is a Complete Striker. She is been referred to as the Female Ronaldo by her Nigeria Followers after winning the golden boot at the 2019 WAFU Cup edition scoring 10goals in 5games. Strength- Good Height, Strong player, Good header, Uses both feet effectively, Deadly in front of goal, Freekick Specialist, Fast Player, Skillful and a Good Passer, Selfless player (Team player), Accurate Shooting.
Weaknesses —Could be selfish with the ball. Uchenna Kanu is not new in the National Team circles. She is an ex-Falconnets player. She may have improved but I don't see her giving better than what likes Ordega, Okobi and Oshoala can give. This current Falcons team does not inspire confidence at all. The team lacks quality plus the coach plays almost like Aigbogun: Kick and follow football. The team cannot dominate play even against our African rivals. In my head I know we may even struggle to earn 1pt from all 3games in that group. But in my heart I can only wish them well. |

EEGA: Super Eagles Training Report : Iheanacho Surprise Inclusion In Top Five Performers The Super Eagles of Nigeria have been training in Asaba ahead of their participation at the next Africa Cup of Nations in Egypt and Owngoalnigeria.com picks five players who have so far impressed in the three sessions the team have had so far. 1. Victor Osimhen – He has carried his form from Belgium to the camp of the Super Eagles of Nigeria. In the three training sessions the team have had so far, the forward has maintained his sharpness level which is the highest among the strikers in the camp of the team. 2. Moses Simon – No doubt he is fired up for this one. The way he was gliding past his markers with ease was the main highlight of his game during the session. He took it a step forward with his pin point delivery when in space and even in tight spaces. 3. Samuel Chukwueze – No way is he not going to make the squad for AFCON 2019. He was not just sharp and lively but also very decisive with the ball at his feet. Another side of his game he appears to have worked on is defending as he won so many balls for his team.
4. Leon Balogun – Despite his limited game time at Brighton and Hove Albion he looked very fit and sharp. During the session he got his interceptions and tackles right and didn’t tire out as expected. The personal training he had has kept him in shape for this. 5. Kelechi Iheanacho – Many criticised his inclusion in the squad of players for the tournament, no thanks to his poor form and lack of game time at English Premier League side Leicester City. That appears to have zero effect on his performance as he was very clinical during the shooting drills and the 5-aside game they played. He scored with almost all of his efforts. 25 mins after this comment was posted and there was no single "like" . Well, i gave the only like it has thus far. Go Super Eagles!!! Good evening house and thanks for the kind wishes and prayers. |

As far as age grade competitions go I'm very disappointed because I don't see anyone in the near future from this group of players that can be promoted to the super Eagles
OK maybe as a longshot Kingsley Michael and ofobofh could Step Up but that's about it For the records, there has never been any class of U20 that never produced players for the SE. Even the U20 teams that crashed out at the group stages of the AYC still produced players for the SE. Even those that failed to qualify for AYC |

I wasn't even opportuned to watch the game and this is because football watching is not allowed where I am presently. . And please don't ask me where But I have seen enough of the team from the group stage games. Good Luck to the Players. Contrary to most peeps views, I expect to see some of them in the SE and U23 teams in not so distant future. And as for Aigbogun, he is not a good coach and also a poor tactician and should never be given any national team job for the mean time. His team doesn't have the Nigerian flair and flavor. And to the teaming true Nigerian fans we salute your courage, patience and enthusiasm despite the team not living up to expectations. As for winning the U20 title we have failed. But as far as players assessment is concerned we have used this team as an opportunity to evaluate the readiness of some players to make the national team. The U23 team is another opportunity for us and we must optimize it. The home based players will always be the bedrock of our U20teams and so the NFF and NPFL really need to work together for teams to have well drilled youth teams who are also not age cheats. This will ensure we start the screening process with the right set of players. We move on. |
