I definitely hope so. Rohr is a cagey coach so he would probably start our reserve team.

O pari

Abusule007:
I think that match will be played with utmost carefulness from both parties because world cup will be days away from the friendly and no parties would want to sustain any form of injuries be it minor or major.

England may as well field their 2nd eleven against us or even if they field their stars, 2nd half, they're out of the pitch.

I see that game as 1 boring game that will end in draw.

If Onyekuru is wise, he shouldn't be in a rush to go back to Everton by January, or else he'd end up like Nacho. There's Calvert lewin, Lennon, Lookman, Rooney, Sandro, klanssen, so there's no walking straight into their starting 11.

I think I can guess whom the SuperEagles person is: based on his style of writing and the method of argument. Those of you who have been to the Cyber Eagles forum (not sure whether it still exists), you might recall a guy we call "AyoAkinfe". I can put my money that the SuperEagles poster is the same AyoAkinfe guy. The writing style and the argumentative circular reasoning ... down to the 10 pointers (we used to call Ayo Mister 10 Pointer) all betrayed him on that post.

Do you notice how the players who learned their craft elsewhere (La Liga, Serie A, Bundesliga, etc) tend to dominate when they move to the EPL? So we are preparing beyond the group stage already? OK ... but while we're preparing beyond the group stage, let's ensure that we are prepared for the group stage as well. Or else, what happened to us in 1998 World Cup, when we were busy preparing for Brazil in the quarter finals only for Denmark to shock us in the round of 16, would repeat itself. I hope not.

O pari

Questence:
We are preparing beyond the group stage, not just the teams in our group. We are optimistic we will qualify and our boys need to be on a roller coaster with super high confidence against ANY team.

Nevertheless, We have played Argentina, we know what to expect and Rohr is talking about Poland and Serbia for Croatia and Iceland.

So England is welcome.

Bro, are you on twitter and Facebook? Because there was an all out campaign for VicMo on both websites. gosh, even the Chelsea twitter account was promoting VicMo and urging people to vote for him. The NFF, many Super Eagles players on twitter, and even the NFF sef.

I honestly thought that VicMo had it in the bag.

O pari

tbaba1234:
How many of these people were even aware of the vote? Of those aware, how many bothered to vote? Of those who voted, how many voted for Moses?

If it is by population alone, we will win but there are other factors at play and Egyptians are more passionate about their players and team.

So you don't think I should ask for a recount? grin

And by the way, shebi dem tok say that winning silverware is the ultimate decider? So what silverware(s) did Mo Salah win last season to give advantage? Or does "winning silverwares" only counts when it comes to Messi vs Cristiano Ronaldo?

O pari

Icon4s:
Hahaha go back and check again.

Nigeria's population is just about twice that of Egypt.

And it may interest you to know that of the soccer loving people of Nigeria not up to 20% care about the national team and players. They only care when we are playing well in the World Cup. That is why safarigirl coined a name for them: "plastic fans".

Go to Egypt, I don't think up to 5% of their football loving population care about European football. They may just only watch their players who are based in Europe. What they care mostly about are the Pharaohs, Zamalek, Al- Ahli, Ismaili, and the likes.

If you think some of our Nigerian fans can vote a 100 times expect so or even more from those fanatic Egyptian fans. Mohamed Salah is like a god in Egypt.

Jesus! Such a sad story angry sad

I just hope and pray that our people should learn to stay at home. The grass is always greener at the other side but, once you get there, you'd realize that there's no place like home. Take it from someone who knows, Europe is NOT as blissful as they make it sound.

O pari

metronaija3:
Endurance Omeyo, one of the returnees from Libya brought back to the country on Tuesday has lamented that though he embarked on the journey with his two legs intact, unfortunately came back with one of his legs amputated.

Omeyo from Uromi in Edo State said he went to Libya in 2016,

He was among 245 more Nigerians who voluntarily returned from the volatile North African country on Tuesday.

He said:” I come from a very poor home. I lost my father about 12 years ago and only my mother was left to be facing the stress.

“That is why I went to Libya to cross the sea and go to Italy, but unfortunately, I couldn’t make it as we were arrested while on the sea.

“We were 160 people on that boat but 110 died and only 50 of us survived. They now took us back to prison in Libya. ”

According to him, he spent over a month in captivity before a friend from Italy sent him N250, 000 which he used to buy his freedom from his captors.

The 28-year-old said a few weeks after, he was shot while in company of two friends which led to the amputation of his leg.

“I spent months in the hospital, until my mother went to borrow N400, 000 which was used to perform three surgeries on me and that is why I am alive today, ” he said.

While receiving the returnees, Alhaji Mustapha Maihajja, Director General, National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA) commended Nigerians who voluntarily returned from Libya for their courage to face a fresh start in the country.

The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that Maihajja who was represented by Southwest Zonal Coordinator of the agency, Alhaji Suleiman Yakubu, noted that some others were still stuck in Libya for lack of courage to face a new beginning in Nigeria.

He said many of them had refused to return due to shame and fear of meeting their mates at home who might have succeeded in their endeavours.

” It takes courage for you to return home. Nigeria is changing fast.

“The Federal government is making everything possible to ensure that every Nigerian will be proud of being a Nigerian.

” All the government is expecting from you is to have faith in God and your leaders and discharge your civic responsibilities,” he said.

The returnees arrived at the Cargo Wing of the Murtala Muhammed International Airport, Lagos aboard an Afriqiyah Airbus 330-300 aircraft with Registration Number 5A-ONR at about 8:25pm.

They were assisted back to Nigeria by the International Organisation for Migration (IOM) and the European Union (EU) after expressing interest to leave Libya where they had been stranded enroute Europe.

They comprised 66 adult females, 74 adult males, four children and six infants.

The returnees were also received by officials of the Nigerian Immigration Service (NIS) , the National Agency for the Prohibition of Trafficking in Persons (NAPTIP) and the Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria (FAAN).

Another batch of Nigerians was being expected from Libya, as their aircraft was said to be on the way from Tripoli.

That's my sentiments, exactly!

We need to play teams that are well organized (similar style to our opponents - Iceland and Croatia) ... countries like: Denmark, Sweden, Serbia etc. I feel that this England game would expose us and lay us bare to our opponents. And you can bet that Croatia and Iceland would be watching.

I don't like England grin

Nothing wrong with the England friendly bro.

At least we have secured Poland for Croatia.
And we have already played Argentina for Argentina (no preparation pass that one).

The last time I checked, the population of Nigeria is over 3 times that of Egypt. And if you're to count only soccer loving people, you'd realize that we have about 10x more soccer loving people in Nigeria compared to Egypt. Hence, if it were so, I don't see how Mo Sallah can beat VicMo in such a popularity contest.

Again, that's not my point. I don't have any problem playing England but a friendly against England right now isn't gonna do much to help our preparations.

O pari

komekn:
I think the word obsession can not be used here. That's just so far away from reality, don't know how you got it.

The last time we played England was in 1994 over 23 years ago. How many irrelevant friendlies have we played with Jamaica and Ghana.

Considering that outside of Nigeria the highest concentration of Nigerians is in the UK. It makes real sense a game in London or Manchester will be like a home game.

But apart from emotive sentiment it is very good preparation for the SE to see how far we have gone with our preparations for Russia 2018.

That's not the point. My point is that friendly match against England at this time doesn't serve us well. None of the teams we're facing in Russia plays similar style with England. We should be scheduling friendly matches against teams that are similar in style to Croatia, Iceland, and Argentina.
