True. But if you think about it, right now, only scorers are winning anyway ... at least 90% of the time. But I agree that for such a system to be fair to all players, the points assigned to goal scorers shouldn't be much higher than the other stats, especially since a vast majority of the goals are tap ins anyway (al a Cristiano Ronaldo ). Maybe something like this: Goals scored: 4 points Tackles won in the final 3rd: 4 points Completed dribbles: 3 points Tackles won (elsewhere): 3 points Penalties scored: 2 points Aerial battles won: 2 points Completed passes: 2 points etc etc. O pari kennysville: Bad idea..... why? Only scorers will win. Settle this by increasin the number of points for tackles won, decrease point for goals. You will see that Wilfred Ndidi will win one time. No questioms asked |

Actually, the fans liked Kobe but the pundits despised him. They think he's arrogant and cocky, especially after the whole issues with Shaq. And it's the pundits and coaches who votes for MVPs. That's what cost Kobe .... big time. O pari goldfish80: Granted, Kobe was the defining player of his generation. As a matter of fact, the number 8 in my handle is actually dedicated to him. I'm a huge fan like that. However, judging by stats and numbers , Kobe had players who outperformed him. I mean, we have to appreciate there were some great players who were also in their prime when Kobe reigned.
Steve Nash you mentioned, was hands down the greatest passing PG the game have ever witnessed. His assist numbers were absolutely crazy. The NBA will never see such a point guard in next 100 years.
Finally, the Mvp is never about popularity. If it was, LeBron should have won 7 straight Mvp in the last 7 years. If it was popularity, Kobe would have won tonnes of Mvps. He was the most popular player in his time. As a matter of fact, his popularity earned him All star nominations when things began to go South for him. Kobe was unfortunate to play for a poor lakers team. The lakers have been trash since Mr Phill Jackson left. |

Thank you, bruh! Trust me, Cahill wouldn't even be playing for Chelsea, talk less of being the captain, if he isn't an English international. Sometimes you need to be politically savvy in order to understand what's going on with some of these football clubs. And the coaches are aware of it too, that's why they do what they do sometimes. O pari enigmaticmotik: He was the second worst player after Alonzo (in terms of their defensive capabilities).
I guess Chelsea/EPL don't like a black captain (not an assistant), same way Chelsea treated Babayaro for Terry to get the captain's band, but they were more diplomatic this time about giving it to Cahill, so they had to keep Mikel out of the team instead because the guy was still performing but wasn't even given a playing chance by conte at all. Is Mikel really that bad? |

Bingo! That's my sentiments, exactly!! We kept criticizing the poor boy when they haven't really given him a chance to perform. I can understand the criticism if he has been given opportunities upon opportunities and failed to capitalize. But in Kelechi's case, he started his Leicester city career on the bench and has rarely received substantial playing time; yet some folks on Nairaland kept bashing him. I think that it's unfair, that's why I tend to defend him. I am not making excuses for him ... just wanna put things in perspectives. O pari darkelf: It's alright bro. We can all learn from each other.
Although KC played quite well today. I believe his time will soon come. He just needs to keep on working hard.
Claude also needs to give him more playing time. He really needs a coach that believes in his potential and encourages him constantly |

Bia, you ain't getting no Christmas present if you don't agree with me And by the way, I think that they should start using stats to award Ballon d'Or and all the other individual awards. That would eliminate the need for voting. Just assign points to everything, eg: 5 points for goals, 3 points for assists, tackles won 3 points, completed pass 2 points, etc etc. What say ye to that suggestion?? Good. I am glad you're an NBA fan. Now can you tell me why/how Kobe Bryant only won ONE solitary league MVP when players like Steve Nash (who played during his era) won two league MVPs. Does that make sense to you? What am I trying to say? It becomes a popularity contest anytime you ask for voting in a team sports. This doesn't just only happen in NBA either. It happens in all team sports. Like Gerard Pique said, "If Ballon d'Or is given to the best player in the world, Messi would've been winning it since 2009". O pari goldfish80: The bitter truth is that Delle Ali had a phenomenonal season, even Real Madrid took notice. If I was in a position to choose, I would have awarded him the league Mvp last season. That's me being honest. It would take a dishonest person to question his place in the Premiership 11,last season.
As for the black Mamba, he was the greatest. His record is pristine. We are talking about someone who had the record all star Mvp award. He was the real definition of a champ. |

Bro, I didn't mean to be rude. I just don't like a situation where we always criticize or write off our players because "they are not working hard enough". I mean, how do you know that the only reason why they are not playing is because they are not working hard enough? Take Kelechi, for instance, this young man was getting decent playing in a star studded Mancity team, but went to Leicester City and suddenly can't get playing time any more? There's something wrong with that picture. And like I have always said, sometimes it doesn't always has to do with the player. Romelu Lukaku was riding the pine at Chelsea under Mourinho and had to move to Everton to rehabilitate his game. And guess who came calling? The same Mourihno who had offloaded him at Chelsea! Kevin DeBruyne was offloaded as not being good enough by Mourinho at Chelsea. He went back to Germany for a new start, and today the rest is history. Juan Mata was offloaded from Chelsea by Mourinho ... he went to Man Utd and today he's the mainstay of Mourinho's team! VicMo was technically a journeyman at Chelsea ... going from one loan to the other ... until Antonio Conte came, today we know better. Olivier Giroud is always delivering for Arsene Wenger. But how come that he rarely ever starts a game? And I can go on and on and on with examples, but I am sure that you got the message. There may be so many reasons why someone isn't playing in a team so, sometimes, we need to defer judgment on them. If a coach doesn't believe in you then O pari darkelf: Get you angry? That's really funny.
Because you don't agree with what I said.lol.
Funny you
FYI, I'm not a negative person. I can tell you for a fact that in the match against Argentina, I was probably the only person in my viewing centre that believed in the boys when we were 2 goals down and I said it out loud.
It's also funny that you said I should go play in Europe. Am I a footballer?
I know that our boys will be one of the fairy tale teams in Russia.
I only pointed an observation that Moses was a wing back and it'll be nice if one of our attackers could also vie for the award.

And don't let me get angry because you won't like my reaction. This is a friendly warning! O pari darkelf: Well said bro.
It is even sadder that with the myriad of Nigerian players in Europe, the only person we are banking on is Vis Moses. Is he the only one earning salary?
A wing back for that matter. Where are the so-called attackers?
I once argued that our Stars may not just be doing well enough to catch their coaches attention but my argument was refuted on the grounds that the coaches have no plans for some of our players.
I can understand if some coaches are adamant and insist on certain players but in the case of nacho (a very talented player, and it pains me to write this), you can't just be going down like that and blame it on Claude or pep.
These coaches gave you opportunities; what did you do with them?
In the world of football, competition is stiff and even if you are given a cameo appearance, make maximum use of it because there are many players waiting for you to slip-up to take your position, even the coaches are under pressure to deliver and may not have patience with unproductive attackers. This is the plain truth.
Mangala was a burst before pep came and he has improved greatly, pep knows how to bring out the best from players. Why was Nacho's case different?
If we want to start celebrating our players, we need to start demanding more from them, CAF award or FIFA awards are no joke. I pray our players prove themselves as world beaters in Russia.
I heard recently that Rohr has visited some of the clubs where our players ply their trades to demand for more playing time for some of them. Nice one sir but that's the best he can do. It's left to them to demand for loan or permanent moves to get more playing time or else face the grim reality that they may not be in Russia. I trust Rohr
My 2 cents |
