Frankly, this team is NOT as bad as people make. it out to be. The team just needs a few minor tweaks to become great. Here are the keys: - Play 3-5-2 - Move Mikel CM - Play Iwobi AM - Move V. Moses LWB - Ebuehi RWB Our best line-up should be; Troost- Balogun- Ogu (or Awaziem) Moses - Mikel - Ndidi - Ebuehi Iwobi Iheanacho - Ighalo (preferably Simy, but Rohr might want Ighalo) @ tbaba, could someone please pass this info along to Gernot Rohr or any member of the technical crew? They are not picking my calls any more O pari |

I dunno. Playing Mikel deep probably won't solve all the problem but we definitely need to try something new. Whatever we're doing right now is definitely NOT working. This team isn't playing as a cohesive team yet so, like Nigeria, this team needs a total restructuring. Don't get me wrong, I wasn't expecting us to trash Czech as many folks here did but I had expected us to play well. I knew it was gonna be a tight game because the Czech would be very organized but I expected some improvement in our game compared to last Saturday but I am not sure I saw any improvements today. I am yet to see the free flowing football we all are waiting for. But something tells me that this might be a strategy sha, if you know what I mean Haha!! Maybe Rohr probably doesn't wanna show his hands yet .... to confuse our opponents O pari Martz101: few weeks ago, everyone said mikel is the only AM in our team and we just need another just incase his injured, now let's push him back
Sir, against Croatia we will chase the game, playing mikel and Ndidi deep won't be nice.
Ndidi and another DM behind mikel...mikel will end up coming deep to help. Rakitic,Modric, kovacic and co are handfull in that the midfield.
Our problem is not the players or formation, our problem is in the players head, they just need to be psych up.
we go do well for Russia |

I can't believe I would say this but I do agree with you. IMHO, Rohr needs to sit him down ... read him the riots act: either play within the team or you sit on the bench. Nne, thank you for breaking it down much better than I can ever do. And you can just add - make Iwobi your creative midfielder. Mikel is too sluggish to be effective in the AM role in Russia. He slows our game down. Make it our deep lying playmaker (Pirlo role) and this team would change. O pari safarigirl: too much English.
Play 3-5-2.

Gernot Rohr needs to make 5 changes, in his starting line up, if we really wanna do well in Russia:
1. Move Obi Mikel down - to partner Ndiid 2. Move Alex Iwobi to the central AM role 3. Play Kelechi Iheanacho upfront along with either Simon Nwankwo or Jude Ighalo 4. Tyroone Ehuehi should be our starting Right Back 5. Victor Moses shouldn't monopolize all the set plays.

I think he'll have his hands full today. I heard that the defensive two are going to be Wilfred Ndidi and John Ogu, to start. So I will expect a more disciplined and solid game from our DMs. And they might be the starting duo in Russia, if they work today. Ndidi is already a sure banker to start in Russia but his partner is still up for grabs between: Joel, Onazi, and Ogu. On paper, I would prefer a Ndidi - Joel Obi combo but the England friendly changed all that, right now I would prefer to have Ogu with Ndidi. O pari TheSuperNerd: Patrick Schick is a true giant of a forward. And pretty quick too. A good test for us. They called him the new Dzeko when Roma went after him before they finally landed him. Yes, money answereth all things but money is NOT everything! O pari ceaser: I have this big daddy who told me about his younger brother who travelled out. He had forced him to buy that land and develop it cos according to him, things can change. Fast forward to 15 years, the man had retired and traveled back to Nigeria. He stayed back in Lagos doing nothing. But dad had to force him back to his home state to finish building that house and live in it.
Dad had the papers for 15 years, and kept it till he came back, handed everything to uncle and made sure he did not live a wasted life. If he had not listened to the advice to buy the land and develop the property, well he'll have nothing by now. Now that's a good family.
The youths of today in contrast live selfish lives and prefer to be successful at the expense of kith and kin instead of working towards the good of the family in general. I guess they enjoy having some embers of the family come to beg them cap in hand for pittance. |

Decent analysis. Like I said in one of my twitter commentaries, 'with the players at our disposal, I think the formation we'll primarily deploy in Russia is 3-5-2'. Right now, Rohr might be trying different formations to confuse the scouts. O pari realpoacher: Comprehensive analysis part 1
...................
After watching our England friendly again yesterday, here is my comprehensive reports of the match and players assessment
First of the block is our 4-3-3 formation which Rohr played in the first half. It wasn't a flat 4-3-3 rather it was a 4-2-1-3 where Onazi and Joel Obi were meant to shield the defence immediately while Mikel was to sit back behind our 3 attackers.
Ordinarily this setup should work if each man played his part well but unfortunately Onazi and Joel obi didn't and the whole team ended up paying for it.
Onazi in particular was terribly piss-poor in that match that it seems it was a deliberate attempt to by him to disorganize our play. Damn, Onazi couldn't stay in his position, he couldn't mark, he couldn't pass, he couldn't hold on to the ball, he was everywhere but no where in particular.
Several times he was caught out of position, and when we struggle to win back the ball and pass to him, Onazi will gladly gift the ball back to the English. The only time he made a successful pass was when he hurriedly returned a pass back to Joel Obi who initially passed to him because he was under pressure with 3 markers on him, but what did Onazi do?.. He passed back to Joel who was already choked obviously the ball was stolen.
Onazi kept on leaving gaps after gaps for the English to exploit, he would rather do another person's job than do his. Several times Idowu and Joel will have their man marked only for Onazi to run in from nowhere claiming he wants to mark too. Mikel will go forward to press, and you will see Onazi chasing him
Now we won't be talking about this issue if he was winning these balls, no! Because while he is running, Before he gets to assist his colleagues and inorder to double team the opponent,.. Fiam!... The opponent has passed the ball straight to the same spot where Onazi is coming from, leaving behind acres of space and time for a damage to be done.
Again and again this repeated sloppy play was what Onazi kept on doing. It was terrible and an eyesore to watch. I wonder how he is going to remedy such shambolic display. He should be forced to remain in front of the two center backs please.
As for Joel Obi, that one was another error going forward. They were several times he sent balls forward which didn't connect with our Frontline. He always kick the ball so waywardly without end product. In middle and defense, it was a battle between him and Onazi on who will get more in each other's way.
He was busy playing what we call "anywhere belle face" football. Both on the ball and off the ball. He had no business clashing with Balogun because he should have seen that the ball was Balogun's to clear from miles away, he actually made us a laughing stock with that head clash.
If Onazi or idowu or Moses had the ball, instead of opening for a pass, he will rather bump into them. Likewise Onazi, instead of opening for a pass, he will go and bump or intercept the player with the ball. Honestly, Rohr should have dropped one of the two.
Henceforth, i will suggest that if Rohr will play a 4-3-3 then it should be a flat one and should not be a 4-2-1-3 triangle anymore because with the triangle, plenty spaces will be left behind our CM and DM.
Let it be a trio of Onazi - - Mikel - - Joel instead of
Onazi - - - - - Joel \ / Mikel
The flat 3 man middle will be better than a triangle 3 man middle.
But honestly, 3-5-2 formation should be our main formation going into this world Cup. We succeeded in qualifiers against African oppositions using 4-3-3 but it seems 4-3-3 isn't working anymore against the rest of the world.
Football is dynamic, if we are well suited with 3-5-2 against world oppositions then by all means that is what we should be perfecting now.
Most matches are won from the midfield, whoever controls the middle dictates how the match will go, and whoever dictates how the match will go will most likely (around 80% of the time) determines who wins the game.
Let Rohr stop the experiments and focus on our midfield play and 3-5-2 formation perfection because as it is we don't have any problems with our Goalkeeping, Defense and attack. Our problem now is the our midfield... I repeat!.. We have a big problem in that midfield of ours.
Presently the midfield doesn't link up and provide supply for our strikers, the midfield doesn't provide cover for our defenders.. The midfield is presently not doing its job and Rohr is supposed to focus there. The middle is responsible for our uncoordinated play for so many matches now. Onazi and Joel should be made to sit on the bench with their seat belt fastened!!
Let Ogu, Etebo, and Ndidi pair mikel there henceforth.. Enough is Enough This experimentation with Joel Obi or Onazi must stop, it has to stop!! |

Again, you got it all wrong buddy. It doesn't matter how well you can perform in your football club, if you can't replicate that form in the green and white then you don't belong in the Super Eagles. It's as simple as that. Secondly, based on my little experience in coaching, I know that a good coach has to consider several things in selecting his team: including experience and balance. The current Super Eagles team is a very young team. How many of them have played in the World Cup before? So why would a serious coach sacrifice experienced players and leaders like: Onazi, Echiejile, and/or Musa, just so he can put in the greenhorns (Aina and Agu) who are not even marginally better? Trust me, only armchair critics and armchair coaches like y'all would do that. O pari komekn: I will say it again.
Training camp is indicative not conclusive.
You can not be a mouse in your club and league and all of a sudden become a lion in the SE.
As it stands we no longer have World class players good and even very good but World class No. Possibly Ndidi may get there but for now he is a top class player.
So in comparison it's possible that a player who is average may seem excellent in the SE. That not withstanding there is no amount of training camp exposure that will make Echiejile fast and better that Aina experience or no experience.
As it stands we may be carrying some passengers to Russia. Echiejile, Joel and a non performing Onazi.
You go to the World cup with the the best players you can get, no loyalty over quality. |

Wow! Nigerians!! You can't make these things up O pari o 7Ebisco: The Senate Leader, Ahmad Lawan says President Muhammadu Buhari is not a man, but a phenomenon.
Sen. Lawan, while hosting members of the North East Youth Coalition for President Buhari (NEYCPB) in his office, said Buhari is a phenomenon because his persona is now a movement and not a single personality.
He stated that Buhari didn’t come into government for personal enrichment, thereby urging Nigerians to join him to help solve problems facing Nigeria.
Lawan said, “Buhari is a phenomenon; it’s a movement. What I mean here, let me not be misquoted. When I said Buhari is not a man, Buhari is an attitude to life, what is that attitude? Integrity and commitment.
“He came into politics not to make money. It is our duty as citizens not to allow the president to do it alone. No matter how you are, how equipped you are, when it comes to leadership and administration, especially of a country that is as complex Nigeria, you need every hand to be on deck.
“That is what we are trying to do; that is what the coalition is seeking to do. When the president came in 2015, the first actions he took were necessary to rescue and secure the North East.
“The North East has been rescued. Insurgency, once it starts, it doesn’t stop like when rain starts and stops.
“You will always find from time to time some signs that they are still there. But the signs have been reduced to suicide bombing of soft targets, not declaring a caliphate with headquarters in Bama or anywhere else. We really owe gratitude to our president,” he said.
