drhopeful: I would add Manhattan 5lb for verbal and Nova for Quant. Helped very much. Download memrise and learn Barron's 800 essential GRE vocab. Hope yours isn't the 2nd edition? I had the 2nd edition but someone dropped the link (a few pages back) for the 4th edition. For those 'still planning to' register for the exams, please do it as soon as possible; register, 'get a test date and keep' it. It's either dates are filling up real quick or dates previously available are currently being cancelled (dunno). Current p/h availability for TOEFL - Sat., Sep 17, 2016 Sat., Oct 22, 2016 Sat., Nov 05, 2016 Sat., Nov 12, 2016 Sat., Dec 03, 2016 Fri., Dec 09, 2016 Sat., Dec 17, 2016 First two weekends in October which was my plan as at last week has disappeared! Had to shift date to Sept, more reading to do! |

Pitykitten: Hello everyone.
I've seen a lot of books listed here, but i know I can't go through them all. So what books would you consider good enough, especially considering my short preparation time. Specially uploaded to dropbox for you... https://www.dropbox.com/sh/zmshe3dzsdkzwfe/AADzNPplTrgqrYdS4IfNZ7zZa?dl=0Official GRE Quant. and Verbal practice booklets. 10mb and 12.5mb for each. Work towards avoiding minor mistakes in the Quant. section, goodluck as you prepare. |

In summary, i. It's better to break your study times into 3/4 chunks of 30minutes prep (depending on your strength, 1hour each works for me), than planning to 'jack' for a 4-hr stretch.
ii a. You're better off NOT spending too much time on prepping for the AWA. Just ensure you plan out how you'll structure your responses few days to the test, and take two practice essays one on Issue and the other on Argument.
ii b. Get yourself familiar with the structure of the AWA section before test day.
iii a. Take a practice test in the next 4-hour window you can spare on the Official Guide to the GRE. Take the two Quant and Verbal sections. See that your testing conditions mirror the actual test closely.
iii b. Rather than focusing on your scores, painstakingly review each question, noting why you got it right/missed it. For the ones you missed, dig deeper to ascertain if it's a content gap or an oversight from you.
The goal is to become ruthless with understanding your weaknesses, such that you don't make the same mistake twice.
So, in case I haven't you said it, for now, you only the need the Official Guide (from the makers of the test). All the best. C'est fini! [s]Do anything outside this quote and na jara you just wan add.[/s] |

happyday: If you want to put your best foot forward, then I think you don't want to rush TWO things; your applications and then the tests. Both are important. America is not running away, and Fall isn't that far. Trust me, you'd have enough on your hands till August, 2017 if you can plan out every stage of the app process. Please, "don't just want to get done with the exams". Be at your best on the tests, once. You have spoken well, I am looking at shifting focus to Fall. Didn't wanna renew my rent next year plus other costs associated with remaining here, thus, reducing funds for the Masters. I am putting much effort into writing the exams. |

happyday: In that case, your best bet is to check with the two schools when you're expected to turn in your full app packet. For Summer admissions, I think October is cutting it too close, since you'd need to enroll by January, 2017. Most programs need two months to review your application and decide, and then you'd want to make travel arrangements from here. Enrollment that will be done Jan 2017 is for Spring admission. Summer enrollment is May/June I guess, na here my eyes dey. Might abandon the idea going by what Topiipii has said, funding would make the whole trip easier for me. |

Topiipii: I will advise you to apply for Fall 2017. Most schools don't admit int'l students in summer besides, you stand a better chance of securing funding in Fall.
P.S: I wanted to post that you might not get a September date when you posted a while back that you're targeting Sept. 22, I kind of passed on it afterwards (probaly because you mentioned PH). I registered on July 26 and got Sept 29 as the earliest available date. Fall 2017 is actually a very good idea. Full funding wouldn't be bad . It looks so far to me, that's the singular problem I have with it. I don't have to rush the processing then, just want to get done with these exams. |

happyday: Waoh, quite a lot you've gone through. I just noticed the Paypal page is returning empty here. If you stay close to the center, you can visit and request that they do it while you're there. At least, to settle your mind. My mind is settled, the money isn't the major concern. Time is the issue here. Was told that I can't get a late September date as I had planned, so we are working towards early October. I am running late by my calculations, wanna apply for at least two 2017 summer admissions (fall session is toooo far). |

Everyone here has gone quiet... Na reading cause am?? Update: I was able to find a possible means to register yesterday, tried registering online through Paypal all through last weekend, it was a wasted effort . Paid 66k for toefl and registration didn't go through. Got a refund on the 3rd day. I get mind sha Checked out a Training center at Olu Obasanjo Road p/h, they said they could do the registration. The training center looks good and legit so I paid and they promised to do the registration before the week ends. Only thing I have now is just a receipt for a total of 110k (do not try this), 50k toefl and 60k gre Like I said before, I get mind . Still waiting to get the call that it has been done while I read on. |

KPhantom: 1) convert ur cgpa to US standard. Use the WES free calculator to knw what ur CGPA is. 2) Take TOEFL and GRE, score high in both. 3)open stanbic ibtc bank acct. 4) search for schools in the US. 5) prepare Letter of recommendation and personal statement. 6) apply to schools (search on google). atleast ur desired school and a safe school. also check for TA, and GA positions for funding. 7) get supporting docs like financial acct, depending on the school.
do ur immunization and medical tests here in Nigeria. 9)get the admission, pay ur SEVIS fee, 10)get the 1-20. 11)pay ur visa fee. 12)apply and pray u get the visa. NB: read previous posts on this thread for better understanding, avoid agents.. Well written summary by KPhantom, not much can be added but it saves you some money to search for and settle for schools you will apply to before writing the GRE. There is an option to send your scores to 4 schools you want to apply to on the day you write the GRE, any request to send results later on costs about $20 per school if I am correct. MODIFIED: Also, using a Stanbic account for payments online is the cheapest these days. You can pay for the GRE and TOEFL with it, so this should come earlier assuming this list was written in order of importance. Try to get a copy of your university transcript, some schools accept the unofficial copy to process the admission (costs less instead of applying for and using several to every school you will apply to), when admission is given you then process one from your Naija university to send to them. There is still a lot of areas where money will be spent later, cutting costs naim sure pass. |
