Councillor Kola Agboola was appointed as Croydon’s new Civic Mayor, for the 2024-25 civic year, at Wednesday night’s Annual Council meeting.

The Civic Mayor will perform ceremonial and public duties across the borough during his year in office. This is a different role to that of the Executive Mayor who is elected by the residents of Croydon every four years to lead the council.

Councillor Agboola represents the New Addington North ward and is an active member of the community he has represented since he was elected in May 2021.

Outside his work as a councillor, he is a senior technician of simulated learning and clinical skills at Kingston University, a position he finds fulfilling, supporting students and young people to achieve their full potential.

Councillor Agboola is a strong advocate for fostering community, representation and standing up for others, values that led him to active politics four years ago after being an active trade unionist for over 30 years.

The new Civic Mayor lives in New Addington with his wife Helen, who will serve as Mayoress for the year.

Following his appointment, Councillor Agboola said: “I am indeed grateful to be elected as the Civic Mayor of Croydon and look forward to representing the borough in my constitutional and ceremonial duties as the Civic Mayor and First Citizen. Also, I’m proud to be the first African to attain this position in Croydon.”

“I will be supporting and raising the profile of my two chosen charities – Croydon Nightwatch and The Family Centre.”

Assisting the Civic Mayor in his position is the new Deputy Civic Mayor, Councillor Richard Chatterjee, who represents Shirley North ward. Councillor Chatterjee was an NHS hospital pharmacist for 16 years, followed by working in the civil service for 23 years.

Councillor Chatterjee said: “I feel honoured to be nominated to serve as Deputy Civic Mayor and grateful to the residents of Shirley North whom I represent.”

He has impeccable integrity
There's nothing clean or honest about stashing money inside secrete foreign bank account in Panama.

Dangote and other billionaires in Nigeria are investing their money in Nigeria, creating jobs for Nigerians and paying taxes to move Nigeria forward, but unpatriotic obi ran to Panama to hide his money, he's not paying taxes like the rest on his hidden money like the rest of us.

Why is Obo not investing in iboland or Nigeria in general?

Why is he not creating jobs with his hidden billions?

The man cries so much about consumption and production, but he's the king of consumption, he imports rubbish that kills jobs in Nigeria, and with his hidden billions, he's not producing anything, not even a toothpick.

That fraudulent and empty man is laboring in vain, Nigerians don't want that fraud.

Yes it's important but it's a bad project to build when nigeria is in the present situation

Revenue is less than debt servicing... Ever loan u get should be geared towards revenue generating projects

When revenue excess recurrent and debt servicing then you can build infrastructure

Borrowing money to build what can't even pay back it's loan makes no economic sense

How hard is that
Are you talking about any infrastructure in particular because you are going in circle with zero specifics.

You think the best way to go is to invest in education and healthcare, news flash, how do you invest in education without building schools and educational infrastructure to provide quality education?

How do you invest in healthcare without building hospitals and strong healthcare institutions? Are they not all infrastructures?

Btw, don't you need good roads and bridges to transport people or create access to education and healthcare?

You are defeating yourself with your own argument?

Infrastructure is not bad as long as you can afford it

Borrowing to build infrastructure that won't generate revenue is a death wish
The 3rd MB is the busiest bridge in Nigeria and a major commercial and economic link between the mainland and business districts in ikoyi, VI, lekki, ajah and beyond with hundreds of thousands of cars going back and forth all day, this bridge alone moves hundreds of thousands of workers daily, without this bridge, business and commercial activities suffers in many locations around Lagos.

See, it's not tolled and it's not generating income, but It's indispensable, it's responsible for multi million or even bullion Naira economic activities daily..

Useless infrastructure are state funded religious centers, convention centers, and state funded and zero income generating breweries.

It's easy to say, if the Nigerian government did the same thing, I see you joining hundreds of thousands of people out in the streets protesting against the same thing.

Would you like your government to shut down ministries and eliminate tens of thousands of jobs including yours.?

Argentina people don't like what their government is doing, but you want your own government in Nigeria to do the same thing, which makes no sense.

Infrastructure doesn't stimulate the economy... It doesn't

How has the Lagos Ibadan rail, Abuja Kaduna rail
Second niger bridge stimulated the economy
When you have hundreds of trucks stuck on bad roads and highways for days with significantly delayed deliveries that slows down market activities, manufacturing, and industrial production eventually raises the cost of goods and services.

Talking about Lagos Ibadan railway, we now have containers to travel via rail instead of getting stuck on bad roads with longer travel time.

For example, look at restaurants and eateries and how they deliver food to customers, with good infrastructures, food delivery people can make multiple trips and make more money instead of getting stuck in hellish traffic or on bad roads.

Infrastructure spending creates jobs and lifts people out of poverty.

If they tell you that whoever won 2023 election would not have made any difference in our economy, call them liars!

The president of Argentina has massively reduced inflation from 3 digits to single digits in only 5 months!

Some moral lessons Nigerians can learn here
1. School is not scam
2. Tinubu is not a trained economist or accountant as he claimed during elections, he's either an intellectual imposter or most likely a huge fraud.
3. Economics is not rocket science, it is a real science that can only be practised by serious people if you want result.

Happy sunday

To start with, you are way far behind in your understanding of the meaning of inflation.

Now, this man has already shut down many government ministries and defunded many institutions and I wonder if you'd be happy with Tinubu's elimination of thousands of jobs just to create fake economic stats.

Maybe Tinubu should learn the Art of eliminating thousands of jobs and call it good economics.

SportsCAF Adopts Nigerian Name ‘Ola’ For New Interclub Match Ball by idealogical(op): 9:28pm On May 17, 2024
The Confederation of African Football, CAF, has adopted a Nigerian language name for its official match ball for interclub competitions.

CAF revealed that the new match ball, in collaboration with PUMA, is OLA.

In a statement by the football body on Wednesday, CAF clarified that “OLA” holds significant meanings in both Yoruba and Arabic languages. In Yoruba, it signifies “wealth,” “honour,” and “respect,” while in Arabic, it represents “rise” and “success.”

It reads: “Ahead of this weekend’s blockbuster line-up that sees Africa’s top clubs battle for TotalEnergies CAF Confederation Cup and TotalEnergies CAF Champions League top honours, Confédération Africaine de Football (“CAF”) and PUMA have unveiled a new match ball: OLA,” the governing body announced.

“OLA will be used this weekend – starting in Tunis when Espérance Sportive de Tunis host Al Ahly of Egypt in the first leg of the TotalEnergies CAF Champions League Final and on Sunday when Zamalek hosts RS Berkane in the second leg of the TotalEnergies CAF Confederation Cup final at the Cairo International Stadium.

“OLA, which means “wealth,” “honour,” and “respect” in Yoruba, and “rise” and “success” in Arabic, was chosen to symbolize the dynamic and energetic nature of African football.

“Embodying the spirit of Africa, Ola’s design is inspired by the continent’s vibrant colours, art, and traditions.”

The newly introduced match ball will be used for the two-legged CAF Champions League final, featuring Al Ahly and Esperance, as well as the return fixture of the CAF Confederation final between RS Berkane and Zamalek in Cairo on Saturday, May 19.

Lagos built LDSP and is going ahead with the largest in Badagry, and Ondo, Akwa Ibom, Edo, and Cross River are going privately sourcing funds and building their own, but some people shout every day that the only reason why Lagos is ahead is because of deep seaport and the FG is denying them a deep seaport because of tribalism and marginalization and because they want them to overtake Lagos state.

1. You cannot have a deep seaport because you don't have any sea.

2. You have yet to seek approval from the FG to build a deep seaport, your leaders don't even talk about it.

Question, why is it so hard to do the same as other states are doing, like, draw up a plan, seek FG approval, and source funds?

Shebi you have billionaires and nearly all the imports from abroad end up in the SE, why are you not eager to build your seaport if that's truly the case.?

I just wonder.
