Christianity Etc › Re: Our Dangerous Prayers, Using Holy Ghost Fire As A Weapon Of Destruction by Ifebazz(m): 12:01pm On Aug 16, 2015 |
nonnyno: Last Monday night I was awakened by the unusual screams and shouts of prayers emanating from a nearby compound. I quickly decided to pay attention to the pattern of the prayers which were somehow strange to me, coming from a catholic background. From my apartment I became an uninvited observer since the noise from the prayer had already ruined my precious sleep.
Throughout the prayer session, I noticed that shouts of ‘Holy Ghost Fire’ Fire, Fire and ‘die by fire’ dominated the prayers. This was repulsive and I thought to myself that it is one of the destructive patterns of prayers being propagated by some new generation churches nowadays. Not long ago I shared my thought with a colleague during an argument on this pattern of prayer especially the wrong use of the Holy Ghost Fire which I not only consider destructive but also dangerous. Coincidentally, I am sharing my thought again on this topic a week after the Pentecost was commemorated in our churches.
I was raised in a catholic family although my parents later converted to Assemblies of God which is also a moderate, not too aggressive or radical church. In Catholic Church we have routine pattern of prayer which we follow religiously and are not used to the destructive and offensive pattern of prayer that is somehow becoming in vogue in our churches that even the charismatic in the Catholic Church have copied it. Catholics are usually gentle and humble in prayers. They appeal and plead to God with great reverence and adulation, like a child seeking favour from his father. It is never in their nature to use coercion to obtain favours from God. That is exactly the way I was raised.
Until late 90s and early 2000, this kind of violent prayer pattern was not very rampant. It rather got sway immediately many prayer houses and new generation churches began to spring up in great numbers. In fact things took a new turn in our primordial prayer pattern once the hunger for spiritual powers and miracles stole the minds of Christians. Since then things have not been the same. Church has become a booming business where both the called and the uncalled compete with one another, each trying to outsmart the other. To reach the pinnacle of the business, some men of God have even gone fetish and brought in strategies that should not be ordinarily acceptable in Christianity religion. That is if churches are being regulated.Call it creativity or deception, but these men of God have a way of manipulating the bible and twisting the interpretations of the verses to bamboozle their followers and also suite their style of worship. They get their members spellbound that they forget themselves and start worshipping their pastors and not God. In some cases the pastors tame and hypnotize their followers that they lose their common sense and become incapable of deciphering the good spirit from the bad spirit. Remember that the bible says that every spirit must be put to test but this is no longer adhered to. Christians are gradually losing their inner spiritual eyes as they are busy running after miracle workers and prophets who now decide their fates.
In their uncanny ways, some of these new generation pastors have come up with an aggressive pattern of prayer whereby members shout, scream, wail and issue threats to the devil and their enemies all in the name of prayer. I would not mention names of churches that operate in this way for security reasons but they are numerous, some very notable with large congregation. In these churches, prayer has now assumed a new dimension where we can issue commands and orders to God with boldness. They often refer to book of Matthew 11:12 where it says that the kingdom of God suffers violence and the violent men take it by force.
Now, to my main concern for writing on this topic which I mentioned earlier – that Holy Ghost fire is being abused and misused. Honestly, I cannot say if it is by mistake, lack of knowledge of the bible or ignorance that has made some Christians tend to misconceive the fire of the Holy Spirit for a destructive fire which can be used to attack and destroy the enemies and evil spirits at will. Holy Ghost fire is also being converted to missiles and other weapons of destructions that we now hear of Holy Ghost missile, Holy Ghost thunder, Holy Ghost arrows, Holy Ghost bullet etc in our churches. This is a very dangerous trend and must be addressed. That there is fire in Holy Ghost does not necessarily signify that it is a consuming fire which burns and hurt like the normal flames we know. The fire of the Holy Ghost is rather holy.
furthermore, in my quest to unearth the basis for which some of my fellow Christians had to adopt this style of prayer, I had to research my bible just to be sure that I am not the one that is ignorant of the teachings of Christ as I am not a wonderful bible student. The first thing that came to my mind during that spiritual exercise was where Jesus promised his disciples that he will send them a comforter, the Holy Spirit in John 16:7. The second was the book of Acts 2:1 – 47 where the Holy Spirit manifested himself to the disciples in a tongues of fire during the Pentecost and they started speaking in tongues. Fortunately, the Pentecost week just ended and the teachings during that period revolved mostly on what Christians should do to receive the gift of the Holy Ghost. I am not wrong therefore to believe that the Holy Ghost is a helper, a comforter, a guide, a counselor, an advocate. I was more convinced after hearing the message of the pentecost that the Holy Spirit is friendly and not a wicked spirit.
How then did we come about this idea of using the Holy Spirit to destroy and attack the enemies of our faith? Could it be from the book of Hebrew 12:29 where it says that our God is a consuming fire? I searched more and deeper into the bible but did not see any verse where neither Jesus Christ nor the early disciples used the fire of the Holy Spirit to destroy things. It was not even used to cast away demons and the evil spirits rather we were instructed by Jesus in the book of Mark 16:17 to cast demons in his name. The much I know of the Holy Ghost fire is that it descends on believers and endow them with gifts which they will use to serve God. In fact, to the best of my understanding I see the Holy Ghost as a very benevolent, replenishing spirit which every Christian needs for renewal and to be equipped for the ultimate mission of propagating the gospel of Jesus Christ.
interestingly, the most striking aspect of this misnomer is the manner at which brethren respond and echo Holy Ghost fire when prayers are being said. I noticed from all the church programmes I have attended recently, that people participate more in prayers at that point where Holy Ghost fire is mentioned. Everybody suddenly gets involved in the prayer even those that had dozed off and where hitherto absent-minded. They would not mind screaming Holy Ghost fire the whole day provided that it is channeled at destroying and burning their enemies. In some ministries, members of the congregation are often asked to stretch their hands toward a certain direction and names will be mentioned while Holy Ghost fire will be echoed. I am guilty of this also but at some point in my Christian life I decided not to swallow every teaching hook, line and sinker without seeking to know if my bible supports it. After all we all have access to the bible.
My understanding is that our manner of praying is a reflection of our kind of persons. We are living in a wicked world full of evil and destructions. These evils are being perpetrated by people and not spirits. The hearts of men are evil and that is why in our prayers and in churches we unwittingly pour out our heart. It is malicious and vicious to wish our enemies dead to the extent of calling on Holy Ghost fire to come down and burn them to ashes. Some churches have even composed songs asking Holy Ghost fire to pursue and burn their enemies, this is wrong. Is it not the bible that says in the book of Matthew 5 verse 44 that we should love and pray for our enemies?I had once imaging what would be our fate should Holy Spirit hearken to these our malicious prayers and respond by fire, probably we will all be dead. God’s way is different from ours, anyway. He is not vindictive, he is not malicious and he is not destructive. He is a merciful God and that was why Jesus Christ forgave those that crucified him. Therefore as Christians, we must learn to forgive.
It is also disappointing that this pattern of prayer is more peculiar to the black Africans especially my Nigerian Christians as the Europeans who brought Christianity to the shores of Africa do not pray in this manner. Why should we Africans always identify with the negativism. The truth is that we often celebrate the travails of others and consciously or unconsciously we reflect it in our religious practices. I suggest we ponder and reflect on some of our actions as Christians to know if they are in consonance with the teachings of our Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ. Let us not be hypocrites that pay lip service and parade about with bible. I also doubt if any denomination can have such pattern of prayer entrenched in its doctrines because the bible still remain the basic tool and book of teachings in Christendom.
Whoever brainwashed us in this regard should realize that as Christians, we are expected to emulate the life and teachings of our lord and savior Jesus Christ. Therefore abusing and misusing the Holy Ghost fire makes our Christian faith to appear tenuous. I call on our religious leaders, clergies and religious bodies to help us correct this negative trend of using Holy Ghost fire as a weapon of destruction. I also wish to suggest that the ugly trend be looked into and our Christian folks reoriented on the basic tenets of the bible. Churches should also review their theology curriculum and hastily do away with any subject that encourages the aggressive and violent use of Holy Ghost fire as a weapon of destruction. Only those who love violence, pray in violent manner but Christianity does not support violence, after all Jesus Christ taught us humility and virtue, and not violence.
My advice to my fellow Christians is that we should stop following the bandwagon and the foolish majority, rather we should be watchful for there are many false prophets in town seeing visions and performing miracles. Do not be deceived by their antics.
https://chukwunonsoabugublog./2015/05/27/our-dangerous-prayers-using-holy-ghost-fire-as-a-weapon-of-destruction/ God will surely bless you for this piece. Been saying this for a long time, but I came to realise that poverty has ridden most Christians of their common sense. Nobody sees the part of the bible that says "the meek shall inherit the earth". Christians, because of poverty mentality, are always looking for who and what to blame for all mishaps or anomalies. Though the piece was long, I found you covered most grey areas. A very nice and revealing read, perfectly worded too. |

Romance › Re: 7 Common Reasons Why Ladies Say No To Marriage Proposals by Ifebazz(m): 7:18am On Aug 13, 2015 |
Mzflexydeeva: The thought of a lady saying no to a marriage proposal to many is unrealistic. Many a time ladies are characterized by their attitude towards trapping a man into marriage rather than refusing a proposal but as uncommon as it may seem to many, guys still get their rings thrown back in their faces.
7 common reasons why ladies reject marriage proposals include:
1. Financial independence
When financial independence is mentioned, a lot of people are quick to say ladies are only after the money, want a well to do man but this isn't about the man. Not that the "independent state" of a man doesn't count but some ladies reject marriage proposals because they (the lady) want to be financially stable before starting a family. Not every girl likes the idea of a man taking care of all her needs. Some ladies want to also be able to contribute and support their husbands financially before their answer is yes.
2. Family attachment
A man who loves his family can be said to be a good man. He can also be said to be one who would make a good husband and father but when a man is too attached to family it can be a reason not to be taken seriously when he pops the question. A man who can't make decisions until he gets approval from his family still has an invisible umbilical cord round his neck. A guy who has to meet all the needs of his family before considering the needs of his "to be" wife may not change after marriage. No woman wants a man whose decisions can only be final after the parents have certified
3. Age factor
Many ladies have lost great men because they have allowed themselves to be consumed by the feeling of "still young". A lady who feels she is too young to get married shouldn't be in a relationship. Some ladies claim to be ready but when the proposal comes they say they are too young. This has more to do with their inability to deal with commitment.
4. Mending fences strategy
Relationships are never perfect and a good surprise is always welcomed but proposing during a misunderstanding or a fight usually backfires. It is good to want to work through issues easily and have them sorted out quickly but proposing when she's mad at you is risky. A no may just be what you get.
5. Proposal method and ring choice
Ladies usually have things they fantasize about. One of which is their wedding and also the way you propose. Ladies have been known to turn down marriage proposal because they felt it wasn't romantic enough, others because it was too extravagant. Choice of ring too has not been left out. Ladies love to show off among their peers, no wonder a lady would say no to a guy simply because she feels the ring used in proposing is not befitting.
6. Sexual satisfaction.
The importance given to sex in relationships these days cannot be over emphasized. A lady could reject a proposal upon considering if the guy satisfies her in bed or not. In a relationship, a lady can still try to get her sexual satisfaction from someone else but in marriage she may not. Knowing that a guy can't sexually satisfy her is a good enough reason to say no for some ladies.
7. Lack of trust (too many female friends)
Lack of trust is one of the most common issues faced by relationships today. A lot of people are in relationships where trust is only a mirage. A major cause of lack of trust for ladies is encompassed in the fact that the guy has too many female friends. In such situations, the lady is likely to feel insecure and unsure. Even when the guy proposes, she tends to take it as a joke and the reply is usually no. The author of this piece must be a teenager who is yet to know how 'hard' it is to come by men who are ready or willing to 'pop the question'. She and her cronies should keep on with their fantasies till their early and mid thirties, maybe by then, they'd know why even superstar ladies are becoming baby mamas by the minutes. If they had lousy mummies men to 'pop the question' during a physical fight, he won't have to finish the sentence before she drags him to the altar. The married ones are having a hard time keeping their husbands to themselves alone let alone the unmarried and maybe a totally dependent liability. Be wise, lady. |

Politics › Re: Boko Haram Can No Longer Confront Nigerian Soldiers – Major General by Ifebazz(m): 7:29am On Jul 27, 2015 |
JEGA01: The Boko Haram insurgents can no longer confront Nigerian soldiers in a battle in any part of the country, a senior army official has said.
Nasir Muazu, a Major General, stated this in Akure on Saturday at the closing ceremony of the Nigeria Army Inter Brigade Competition.
“I just came back from the North East and I can comfortably tell you that Boko Haram cannot and I repeat cannot take any offensive attack against Nigerian Forces, that one is for sure,” the General Officer Commanding 2 Mechanized Division of the Nigerian Army said.
Mr. Muazu said the insurgents, who last year displaced soldiers from several military formations in the North East as they seized several territory, had changed tactics to aiming at soft targets. “What the Boko Haram insurgents are now doing is hitting sub-targets which indicates that their days are numbered,” he said.
He assured that the country’s armed forces are capable of bringing an end to the Boko Haram insurgency and that the military had reviewed and renewed its strategy to curb the activities of the terrorists.
Although, the Army General agreed that part of the major challenges confronting the country is the coordinated activities of the Boko Haram, he promised it would soon be brought to an end. Mr. Muazu also said that all military commands had been placed on red alert in order to fight issues bordering on insecurity.
“We are looking forward to an Army that is responsive to the society, that would respond to the demand and needs of our people,” he said.
“I want to remind all Nigerians that this preparation of explosives by the insurgents is not carried out in the open, it is carried out in houses and hidden places. So every Nigerian must key into how we can win the battle against insurgency in the North East. I think with that support, we are going to make it.”
He assured that the Nigerian Army would continue to work for the sustenance of peace and not deviate from its professional roles of defending the territorial integrity of Nigeria.

omonnakoda: You assert authoritatively and invariably you are wrong. Formal education can take place in any language. It is a question of policies. The coloniization is complete in Africa because we were convinced to give up our religion and lost sense of identity. We were convinced that we had nothing of value and were inferior. You will find that in India and the Arab world which were also colonized they did not adapt the colonialists gods and they also retained their own languages and so most people in those countries were literate in both languages India has more languages than Nigeria and used English for many years but later some states took the decision to introduce education in primary in the mother tongue, there are examples of recent introduction of the same policy in New Zealand with great success to reverse the extinction of the Maori language so it is not true thatFormal education is not possible without a common language. Even our Neighbour Cameroon have Anglophone Cameroon where they teach in English and so we can teach in primary schools in Yoruba English and Igbo we are talking populations over 20 million. In Belgiium the have more than one language and in Flanders Nice! Now you're talking. It's a gradual process. Not a very major issue at the moment when the politicians busy themselves with stashing away national cake in Swiss bank accounts. When the politicians see education as something more important than ethnicity and religion and federal character and private jets, then we can talk. But for now, let's deal with issues that are hindering normal daily living. Adios. |

I have not spoken against the use of English so I do not know what YOUR POINT is. My POINT is English is a useful tool but it should be a secondary language and not a primary one and we should take greater pride in our proficiency in OUR OWN LANGUAGES and not ridicule people(like Patience Jonathan) because their English is weak. What is important is to learn our own languages first and to give that greater priority You don't learn your OWN LANGUAGES per se, except of course you didn't grow up in your 'place'. English language not the only lingua franca, many countries use French, others Latin etc. What you should know is that, it's NOT because the colonial masters wanted us to speak English by all means, but since we didn't have any unilateral language, it was a lot easier for them to introduce theirs as a means of communication. I condemn the colonial mentality, but not everything they brought is bad. Formal education wouldn't have been possible without a common language. Now how are you going to teach the northerners technology or anything at that when they are not the inventors or you have to translate millions of books to achieve that? For now, just like the gay right ish, it's a gruesome triviality and at best a white elephant project. |

omonnakoda: Africans need to shun Colonial mentality which has eaten so deep into our psyches like a computer virus. Why should Kenyans be proud of their president for his command of English. Is he an English person? How many British Prime Ministers have any command of any African language and does that make their people ashamed. That is not a trivial issue it is so deep in the psychology of the colonized they do not know it is there just like a Malware. Speaking English is ABSOLUTELY IRRELEVANT to the lives of ordinary Africans and those who harbour such thoughts need to do some self examination. I will ask a further question how many such people can write 2 pages in THEIR OWN language or EVEN TRANSLATE CLEARLY IN THEIR OWN LANGUAGE WHAT KENYATTA SAID. Naturally you will find such people following Jesus or Mohammed to Mecca or Jerusalem. Wake up! The Japanese,The Germans ,the Koreans and the ENglish do not pride themselves on speaking anyone's language. Let us take pride in who we are and stop trying to be like the coconut ;black on the outside and white inside. I would have said you wrote well if you had written all these stuffs in your own native dialect. Since you didn't, you are more of a hypocrite than the ones you condemned. There are few countries that are monocultural or mono lingual. These ones can afford to have a lingua franca other than the popular ones. So in your wisdom, which language would you adopt for Nigeria? Many African countries are like Nigeria, heterogeneous. Solve that before you rap with Afrikaan. |
