Nigeria’s captain, John Obi Mikel, has issued a clarion call for the Super Eagles to pull no punches when tackling the Pharaohs of Egypt in Alexandria on Tuesday. Both countries clash for the second time in four days as the qualification series for the 2017 Africa Cup of Nations reach fever pitch. Friday’s first date ended 1-1 at the Ahmadu Bello Stadium, Kaduna, with the Egyptians earning the equalizer, against the fair play spirit, in added time. Mikel, Chelsea FC of England ace, said the Eagles have to fight harder than they have ever done to snatch the three points at the Borg El-Arab Stadium in the Mediterranean coast. He said: “It’s a massive battle that we are going for and there should be no illusion about it. “We have to face reality and everyone has to give more than 100 per cent because we just have to qualify for the Cup of Nations.” Mikel was one of Nigeria’s outstanding players when they won the Africa Cup of Nations in South Africa three years ago. The midfield enforcer insisted there was no reason to panic following Friday’s draw and pointed to the fact that there are still three more matches left in the campaign. He said: “We have to go to Alexandria and fight with everything we have. There are still matches to play and we have confidence that we will earn the ticket. We also call on Nigerians to believe in the team and continue to support us.” Source: http://theeagleonline.com.ng/mikel-tasks-eagles-over-egypt/ |

The Police Service Commission (PSC) has warned that there would be no short-cut into the Nigeria Police Force in the recruitment of 10,000 personnel. President Muhammadu Buhari had in 2015 approved the recruitment of 10,000 policemen at the National Security Summit in Abuja. In a statement Wednesday, Ikechukwu Ani, Head, Press and Public Relations of the commission, told journalists that Mike Okiro, Chairman of the commission, gave the warning while unveiling a portal for the exercise in Abuja. The statement said that the portal would be opened to the public on April 1 to herald the commencement of the exercise. “The process leading to the recruitment of 10,000 Policemen as directed by President Muhammadu Buhari at the National Security Summit in Abuja last year, hascommenced,” the statement said. It said the unveiling of the portal was in actualisation of the presidential directive on the recruitment of the 10,000 Policemen. The statement noted that the exercise was remarkable because there had not been recruitment into the Nigeria Police Force for more than five years. It said that thousands of policemen who died in the course of service, dismissed or retired, had not been replaced since the last five years. The statement stressed that the recruitment would strengthen and re-energise the force to tackle more security challenges facing the country. It explained that the exercise could not begin last year because the funding was not captured in the 2015 budget. The statement urged interested applicants to access the portal through the commission’s website: www.psc.gov.ng or that of the Nigeria Police Force: www.npf.gov.ng. It said that no fee would be charged for the processing of the forms which would be filled on-line. “We are not charging money. It is free, absolutely free,” it said. The statement said that the exercise would be in three entry points of Constable, Cadet Inspector and Cadet ASP, while there would also be recruitment into the Specialist cadre. It said that applicants for Police Constablesare expected to possess five credits including Mathematics and English Language at Senior School Certificate Examination in not more than two sittings. It said that for Cadet Inspectors, in addition to having the requirements of Police Constables, candidates would be expected to have an Ordinary National Diploma (OND), Advanced Level (A level), National Certificate in Education (NCE) or their equivalents. The statement said Candidates for Cadet ASP must possess a University degree or a Higher National Diploma (HND). Nigeria men are known for hardworking. They would neither take their wives nor children for granted. But, the only issue I have with them is when they failed to be generous in terms of family upbringing. I was chatting with a friend of mine the other day and she told me that her husband usually drop between 500 to 700 naira for daily house expenses even when her husband monthly income is between 50k to 70k. We know that our country is currently experiencing high standard of living but the truth is that women face a lot of challenges trying to survive with this present economic conditions. How can you expect a woman to use 1 or 2k to buy kid pampers, wash clothes, cook, or even transport herself to market with the same money. Out of curiousness, please this post is strictly for mature mind. In your rational opinion, like what is minimum amount you think a husband should drop for the daily up keeping of the family before going to work or shop. Please, don't just read and go. Say your opinion with free mind and lets know actually if Nigeria men are caring and generous in all ramifications. lala, seun.....is up to you sir. |

kilokeys:Keke is an alternative. If you are conversant with Ikorodu road, you don't need second thought not to support government on this. Have you seen where Okada riders play death game trying to manoeuvre BRT buses along Mile 12 Ikorodu road. They ride with full wreckless abandoned. They take too much risk even when carrying passengers. It's too annoying when people say things that lack concrete evidence. What remains as we talk now is public announcement. I work in government transport agency and I can assure you of this ban very soon |

Like seriously, should some churches continue to be playing on their members psychology like this. I was opportune to attend one Apostolic in Akwa Ibom and my purse was left dry trying to please God and pastors in the name of offerings. The matter was so serious that I almost went borrowing for my T.fare. Imagine telling us to do new month for Jesus Christ and those that have not done Xmas for God should come out, exclusive of mandatory payment for seed sowing ni o etc. The number offerings was sixth times. Oyàmí léñú!!!!! Where I attend my worship at St. Dominic's Catholic Church Yaba is not so and ours is usually twice may be twice in a month. First offering is for God while the second collection is for a particular project. Please, how many times offerings are collected in your place of worship and what are they called? |
[quote author=emaculate99 post=43511033]EQUATING HND WITH BSC: A PANACEA TO TECHNOLOGICAL ADVANCEMENT / INNOVATIVE IDEAS NAME: Emaculate Ife representing OAU, Position: Support. My brother got a call to help a friend get a job for his niece. Upon seeing her CV, he found out that she is an HND holder. It is however a policy in his company to employ BSc only. He felt bad for this girl because she opted in for polytechnic education due to her family’s financial constraint. She now sells foodstuff in the market due to the employment discrimination in the country. Constitutionally, equality is a necessary principle which cannot be extinguished by the same law that prescribes it unless it is a “utopian fantasy whose hopeless pursuit” would lead to “tyranny.” It is no news that the discrimination between BSc and HND holders is becoming worse each day as companies prefer BSc to HND even if the latter is more skilled than the former. They believe in certification as against the equal employment opportunity advocated by the constitution of Nigeria. But what will happen if skilled graduates are shut from employment as a result of certification? Technological advancement or technological adversity? You choose. Moreover, is certificate the basis of innovative idea or improvement in technology? It is barbaric to put HND below BSc because of a mere certificate. Innovative idea is a no respecter of certificate. Anyone can have innovative idea that can move the country forward technologically. If certificate is the basis of innovative idea, there should be no Microsoft and Nairaland today. You know both founders are dropped out, right? Furthermore, the core policy of Nigeria of evolving into a technological based country is on the ruin as the discrimination against HND holders has continue to wear an ugly look. It is no news that findings have proved that some polytechnic students are in some cases far better than their university counterparts on the field (Sammyscholar, a representative of Polytechnic of Ibadan, is a perfect example). If this is the case, why do the government and private individual put BSC holders ahead of HND holders without recourse to their skills and ability? Is that not a poison to the realisation of the nation’s technological development? Someone like Sammyscholar would be deprived a job because a company’s policy cannot employ a HND holder when in the real sense, if he should be given an equal opportunity to compete with the graduates, he will compete with them favourably. In addition to that, the HND holders upon getting job are treated with ultimate distaste and inequality as regard to the salary grade level (HND: GL 07 & BSc: GL 08); security personnel: BSc (commissioned) while HND (non-commissioned); promotion of the BSc is unlimited while the peak promotion for HND is GL 12. HND holders are mostly kept as slave workers as against the status of BSc holders. This is evidently shown in Banking/ financial sector where HND holders are treated cheaply because of their degree. Can any innovative idea come out from someone who has been battered psychologically with the ugly treatment he is going through? I doubt it. Come to think of it, international companies in the country and companies in advanced countries have no time for certification discrimination. Their employment is based on meritocracy and not mediocrity as the case is in Nigeria. This is a reason for their technological advancement. If Nigeria wants to advance, it must take a clue from this set of people. Nigeria is so much interested in curbing criminal activities and unemployment; yet it operates in such a way that criminal activities and unemployment rate will escalate. Giving out policies that do not allow for the employment of HND or making them a second class employees will not only make them indulge in criminal activities, it will also increase the unemployment rate in the country. And this will not avail them opportunity to give out their well-thought ideas which can help move the country forward technologically. This will also reduce the pressure mount on universities for admission. Polytechnic students are mainly trained to be practically relevant in their field. They are trained on how to do things in their field, while university students are trained to research into why something is done in a field. Ideally, the two are to work hand in hand for the development of the society as “practice without theory is blind and theory without practice is sterile.” Giving prominence to theory means that no productive idea will materialise, however, putting both practice and theory together will advance Nigeria creatively and technologically. Theory and Practice can only work together if both of them are given equal recognition. Can someone who has passion for Art class be forced into science class and cope well and vice-versa? How do you want graduates to cope when in the real sense they were forced into university because of the discrimination and mentality of the citizenry? Someone who has passion for polytechnic can only cope and deliver better if schooled in a polytechnic. This is the case in other advanced countries but it is not the same in Nigeria as polytechnic materials are forced into universities as a result of the discrimination in the labour market. Taking cognisance of the aforementioned and the current situation of Nigeria, I believe you will throw your full support behind me that equating BSc with HND will bring about technological advancement in the country.
