Family › Re: What Is The Right Age To Leave Child\childeren Alone In D House? by ifyalways(f): 5:02pm On Jun 19, 2012
Alone to travel, go shopping, visit a sick neighbour or go to work?
My kids are below 5 years and never been left alone on their own without an adult supervision. I intend to keep it that way in the next 6 years atleast.

While growing up, I had only 8 batteries transistor radio to play with, today with all the funky gadgets, diesel and fuel @ home (thanks to nepa), man made disasters, kidnapping and ritualists on the prowl, every wise parent knows not to leave children alone.

NB: I'm speaking as a parent in naija.
Family › Re: Help! My Hubby Is Married With Kids And I Never Knew! by ifyalways(f): 4:36pm On Jun 19, 2012
Very funny.
The op or woman is more bothered about her Christian life (what people would say in church) as opposed to how this mess would affect her as an individual. In other words, she is trying to save face, appear a victim of circumastance instead of trying to fix her shyte.
I wonder how many more wives, children and mistresses are out there somewhere for this same "mog" . The most pathetic thing is that some people, men worshippers and arselickers must have at one time or the other missed out on a beautiful relationship Cos this very mog advised them to do so citing reasons like bigamy, adultery etc while he himself is neck deep in it.
@op,why has the other woman not sued the "fastor" for bigamy yet?abi she too was married same way, displace and replace?
O ga ju!

Afam you've not tasted an alligator?you are missing oh.
I meant that I've not heard or seen anyone consume lizard but a lot of us eat alligator. They're are almost same except for size.
The frog part is an idiom. But wait oh, I've eaten either frog or toad somewhere @ isikwuato. It was very well prepared, spicy and delish. Ha na akpo ya "jumping chicken" .
Enjoy your chicken Afam and make it okuko igbo.

You may be right but I think size matters, to me especially.
Why do we ignore lizards but devour alligator?

If I must eat a frog, I would most definitely have my eyes on the biggest one.

Must we attach meanings to every dream?
Well if I must interpret, I think its either:
You need to wash and change your sheets.
You need a new bed entirely.
Culture › Re: Need Help Interpreting An Indigenous Song? by ifyalways(f): 5:15pm On Jun 18, 2012
Owu isa mmadu is a very popular slang, well in my hood, I'm surprised to know that its "strange" to some of us.
I don't know about its origin but its a very very common slang in onitsha axis.
Owu na apam or owu na asam =im broke.
In the context which its used now ie the song, the singer is trying to say that "one gets financially wiser after courting poverty or difficult days"
Lol

Family › Re: After Returning The Bride Price, He Wants Us To Talk. by ifyalways(f): 4:53pm On Jun 18, 2012
Why?he is still the father of your kids and the least you can do is to maintain a cordial relationship with him.

Find out what he wants to talk about and decide if its worth the trip. If you don't want to go, tell him politely that you won't come.

He has to specify what he wants to talk about first, ask him then decide if you are ready for it ie whatever it is.
Make sure you inform your family, atleast your mom where you are meeting him for the talk.
Lastly, do not promise him anything during this talk Cos "he sounded, talked, acted or looked changed "

@topic,if I knew 20 bini ladies, I'd say its just 1 or 2 of them that are light skinned.IMO, from personal encounter, binis are mostly chocolate and dark coffee coloured.
Btw, I really think that this notion of igbo girls are mostly light skinned is ridiculous and untrue.

Some of the songs for Idu uno are:

Ada anyi nwanyi (thrice)
Lota kwa ebe I si bia
E menyekwana anyi ifele
Di gi bu eze gi
Sopulu ya
Nma nwanyi bu di ya

Another :
Asa Nwa asa Nwa
Adaeze a nabago be di ya
Asa Nwa asa Nwa
Adaeze sopuli di gi
Asa Nwa asa Nwa
Adaeze telu di gi ofe di nma
Etc

Culture › Re: Igba Nkwu Nwanyi (igbo Traditional Wedding Ceremony) by ifyalways(f): 11:34am On Jun 17, 2012
Lemme continue, I'm feeling 'awake and in asiri mood' lolz
Idu uno is when the bride is officially escorted to her new home, the husbands house. IMO, its the peak and highly emotional part of the whole marriage rites<<I'm teary eyed now>>
The bride is escorted by young ladies and married women from her village, all the gift items provided by her family and kinsmen on their heads(its mostly household utensils, the very feminine stuff(mortar, pots, ite ona, tripod stands etc) and her own personal items provided by her family and kinsmen (loads and loads of George wrappers, trinkets, head ties). Rich families send forth their daughters home with car gifts, landed properties.
Idu uno is when it finally dawns on the bride that she is actually leaving her family to go start her own home. Her mom, elder sisters, aunts and all related female kin starts the rite by praying, blessing and advising the bride. She's told what to expect, how to handle conflicts in her new home, how to relate with in laws and most especially to told to respect and honor her husband. The mom then embraces and bid her farewell. . .
Journey don begin oh, the spinsters take over. Like foot soldiers with the bride crying, ndi egwu by the side, the woman is led to her husbands house where the groom is by now, already waiting eagerly for his wife. The in laws and husbands relative would have also organised a wellcome party for the guests.
Wife is received, the grooms mom welcomes bride specially in same fashion as her mom ie prayers, blessings and advice.

Its a lovely culture and I absolutely love it!
