No amount of additional buy can bring the average cost to 1.40. It will always be higher
Exactly…the best he could do is to average to around 1.41 or 1.42 and wait for the stock to rise just a little. That has been my strategy. Trying to go close to 1.40 will mean spending a lot. And what if the stock deeps again? So just average in trenches before you get high blood pressure. grin grin

There is always a penalty on the interest of any fund deposited that is not up to 30 days and withdrawn. Why some investors don't seem to notice is because the amount deducted may be very small compared to what they received.
Ok

What is happening with Stanbic MMF? The January profit was liquidated, and now February profit too. But none of this was paid to me.
Is it reinvested or what?

Now even the daily returns that used to be uploaded is no longer showing.

Please who has information about them? I just want to have a possible explanation before I do them an email...
Same here daily interest no longer comes on the statement. I normally note my previous accrued interest the previous day. Then I will do the maths the next day to know what was paid as daily interest and check if it correspond with the interest rate stated.

He didn't say after two weeks (14days ) of opening. He had 1m in the account and we don't know for how long he has been using the account or for how long he had the 1m in the account.
1M has been there since November last year. MMF account was opened in the year 2017. Additional 9M was added January ending this year. Second week of February, 5M was withdrawn. And 5M is still in the account till date. I was expecting a deduction from my accrued interest at the ending of February. But that was not done. So I was wondering if the deduction will be done on a later date.

No penalty. However, your subsequent daily rate after the withdrawal with be calculated and credited based on your 5M balance.
This is what am seeing.
The daily interest dropped. But at the end of February I was credited the entire accrued interest. Fund was placed in MMF January ending.

@TY207 what @freeman67 just said is the perfect answer to your question. Sincerely speaking not just for the reason of marketing there will never be any time bank will give a rate higher than MMF rate. The truth is that part of the money you fixed or deposit with the bank at whatever rate they promised is also invested in MMF.

Always bear this in mind, any government-regulated investment is always per annum. It can only be prorated to whatever period based on the nature of the product.

Another advantage of MMF or Fixed income fund apart from the fact that the rate is higher and WHT free, you can top up with any amount at any time, the rate is not static and exit is without penalty after 30 days.

So my advice is get onboard the stanbic MMF or SFS Fixed income fund and enjoy good rates.

Currently, Stanbic MMF is 9.36% while SFS FIF is 11.01%

You can reach out to me or click the links on my signature to start investing.
I had 1M in MMF. Then I added 4.5M and added another 4.5M the next day making the total funds to be 10M. After two weeks I withdrew 5M. And allowed the balance 5M to remain for 30days. What will be the penalty.

People get the leaders they deserve. Those of us lamenting are in the minority. The majority are not informed and are okay with the status quo.

I have learnt to stop complaining or wailing, any which way I should be okay and be better than 90% or more of the population.

It becomes a big problem when the majority who are comfortable with the system and also support the anomaly come to the hardworking citizens who are struggling to make an honest livelihood for handouts or financial aids.

I have friends, family members, neighbour etc who are in support of this corrupt system and politicians but majority don't have financial sustainability. After supporting their J*gab*n finish and hunger or emergency come knocking, they will still have the audacity to come to those of us who don't fancy their slave masters for grants, aids. No be juju be dat

I beg what are we buying today jor.

Anyway sha, if you know what you are doing don't listen to the doomsayers. There is big money to be made in this market
That is my biggest worry.

Before interest rates or inflation goes up, you would have known 3 months prior to the time if you are following happenings in the bond market.

That is why astute investors move their investments between the fixed income market and the stock market, while some have a certain percentage of their portfolio in fixed income investments.

Warren Buffett also twerked one of his mentors (Benjamin Graham) formula for estimating the intrinsic value of a growth stock, by including the current yield on a 10 year fixed income in the formula. He multiplied his fair value by the average yield on a 10 year bond and then divided it by the current yield

Because he found out that after all was said and done the current yield on fixed income investments affected the fair value of a stock. If the fair value should be discounted or he should add a premium to it.

About few months ago when Warren Buffett had about $100 billion war chest, where did you think the fund was invested before he started buying undervalued stocks in the bear market

There is also a reason why about 90% of Nigerian workers retirement funds are invested by fund managers in fixed income investments.
Baba don yarn…since I Dey follow Baba yearnings for this forum, my investment portfolio profit has increased to 49.50%.

I did this and the airline referred me back to my bank. My bank says they cant find a decline receipt with which to process the refund. So bank is pushing me to the airline and the airline is pushing me back to the bank. What is the best action to take in this instance?
yeddy99:
I work in aviation sector.
My advice is this: there is the possibility that it declined but the transfer still went through to the airline. We call it timed out tickets. Contact the airline and give the all the details of the transaction and they would then check if the transfer came through. If the transfer came through, they would ticket it for a date of your choice or do a refund.

Good evening everyone,

I made a web payment for a flight on the 2nd of November, it declined. I then made the payment via a Wema bank which went through. On the 6th of November my bank debited me for the web transaction. I have complained to the bank twice and they have rejected my complain and even said I can take it up with the CBN.
Please how do I take this up with the CBN?

If you live in Nigeria you will still convert that dollar to buy things at an exorbitant rate, if you work in Nigeria, the future income you make will be worthless, this is short-term gratification for bigger problems, the problem with Nigeria is Nigerians from the Richest to the Peasant, we are all the same thing
Ironically, our smartness keeps us all down…we think we can outsmart other Nigerians by buying dollars and changing it back to naira when it goes up. The local farmers and local traders are also increasing their prices…who be fool now? grin

Banks can't literally print money but they do create new money when they make loans.

In fact, the vast majority of money in the economy today comes from these loans created by banks.

However, when a loan is repaid, that money disappears from the economy.

To understand the process of money creation, let us create a hypothetical system of banks. We will focus on two banks in this system: Anderson Bank and Brentwood Bank. Assume that all banks are required to hold reserves equal to 10% of their customer deposits. When a bank's excess reserves equal zero, it is loaned up.

Anderson and Brentwood both operate in a financial system with a 10% reserve requirement. Each has $10,000 in deposits and no excess reserves, so each has $9,000 in loans outstanding, and $10,000 in deposit balances held by customers.

Suppose a customer now deposits $1,000 in Anderson Bank. Anderson will loan out the maximum amount (90%) and hold the required 10% as reserves. There are now $11,000 in deposits in Anderson with $9,900 in loans outstanding.

The debtor takes her $900 loan and deposits it in Brentwood bank. Brentwood's deposits now total $10,900. Thus, you can see that total deposits were $20,000 before the initial $1,000 deposit, and are now $21,900 after. Even though only $1,000 were added to the system, the amount of money in the system increased by $1,900. The $900 in checkable deposits is new money; Anderson created it when it issued the $900 loan.

I hope this matter can be put to rest, abeg o.
Please don’t argue with them again. Just refer them to debt and money creation - it’s a video on youtube.
With a particular deposit in a bank, they are allowed to give loans for example 3times (it may be more or less, but not 1:1) the cash they have as deposit. So if they have 100 naira and they are allowed to loan out 300 naira…what have they done? Create or print, they have just added another 200 naira from thin air.
