Dum20: Hello Bro,
I am responding to you not to have a political discussion but investment discussion.
Why do you think past presidents beg for foreign investments? Even politicians boast about bringing in foreign investors this is because the best investors are the ones that come in to build factories and employ labor.
You are doing your assessment using the wrong metrics.
For example:
1. The brewery had to buy land-- Land owners have made money and will feed their family, cloth their family, pay school fees, hospital bills, data, power supply, the economy will be good.
2. The brewery has to be built --- Engineers, technicians, labours will be employed these will also buy food, house, pay bills stimulating the economy.
3.Contractors has to supply goods and services to the brewery ---> Contractors and their family get to feed, go to school, houses will be built in and around Anambra.
These category of people will pay taxes to the government, the goverment makes money for every money this category of people spend.
I can confidently tell you that Anambra government has made back the money they spent on the brewery and is still making money from the investment.
In 2020 Zenith bank price went as low as N11 while some people bought it at N20 with hindsight are going to say an investment in zenith bank at N20 is a bad investment?
The responsibility of every government is to create an enabling environment for businesses to thrive and pay taxes and that is what the man did. The focus was not share price and dividend. The returns from dividend is miniscle when compared to other returns on investment. Excellent. This analysis is void of politics really. |

I found out that my Axa Mansard was removed from my portfolio when I asked my broker they said it’s not registered in CSCS. I found out that axa mansard readjusted their shares last year. I had 200,000 shares last year. Sold 50,000 from balance 150,000. All of a sudden it disappeared. My MTN shares also disappeared. I have been disturbing my broker. All they keep telling me is that they are working on it. A few days ago, the MYN shares appeared together with UPREIT ( UPREIT- which I don’t have in my portfolio and I have never bought before). After somedays both the MTN and UPREIT disappeared again. Please what else should I do? Apart from waiting for my broker? |

Wanajo, Pa Emma etal I greet the gurus in the house. I bought Some fidelity shares at IPO many years ago. I did E- dividened claim three years ago with first bank account. Last year I bought Fidelity shares with Stanbic brokers. I received the dividened on my first account for only the shares I did E-dividened claim for. I have not received any dividened for the shares I bought with stanbic brokers. Is there something I didn’t do?
Your help is much appreciated. |

einsteine: False dichotomy.
The options are not between either doing treasury bills and being scammed. There are several legitimate low risk alternatives to treasury bills. Laziness and a lack of knowledge are the only two reasons to still be doing treasury bills right now. you should have suggested them instead of tagging somebody lazy. If you cant help somebody then don't call him Lazy. |

Afromentalist: I understand why Seatrade always clashes with you people here. You are just too damm lazy, and moronic to think for yourselves. Infact the only reason I even visit this thread is because of Emmanuelewumi, and Seatrade (transatlanticex/logobenz).
A simple google search would have educated you lots, very easily, but you prefer to happily remain in ignorance and call people names.
Beside Jewelry (which is already a massive industry on its own), Gold is used in Information Technology (computers and phones), Electronics, Medicine, Space Technology and Exploration, Conservation techniques and the list is endless.
Gold is a necessary component to make: Connectors/contacts, Printed circuits, Semiconductors, Electron tubes, Relays and switches, Thin films and thick Films and very many others.
Now, I am not one to waste my precious time, as I am very certain you can't be educated. If I do not reply you or anyone else regarding this topic anymore, just know that you have not said anything that deserve my attention enough to elicit a response.

As earlier said traders focus on the stock price, investors focus on the business and its values.

ositadima1: Oga, let me start with that I don't claim to be an expert in these matters. I feel that our small forum, NSEMPA, is lacking in a lot of ways. Cos, spending some time on reddit and other foreign forums opened my eyes to what it really takes to trade in ways similar to what professionals do.
Apart from a few individuals on this forum, most of the discussions held here are elementary or primitive, lol. I hope u look beyond this forum and see for ur self.
In my limited view, 98% are buy&hold who use fundamentals to select investments. The rest are just tagging along.
And yes, traders, that is people who depend on shorter time market inefficiencies need math beyond addition and subtraction. A good knowledge of introductory statistics and probability is very useful. Well, once again, if u do more of trading than buy & hold, I suggest u also check out other foreign forums. Share links to other forums please |

ultron12345: So many Nigerians live on such amounts. The reason many here see it as impossible is because they see everything through the lenses of Lagos, Abuja and PH. People live in so many cheap states (not in the capital cities, but in other secondary towns outside the capital (not villages oh)). Imagine someone saying "50K? How? Only transport will finish that". You think everywhere is Lagos? There are so many places in Nigeria where for the average person, transport is one of his/her least worries.
A prudent family of 3 (husband, wife and a child), where the man is a worker earning 50K
Rent for a 2 bedroom flat (not all pay rent, some live rent free in family houses)- 100K per annum - approximately 8k per month
Feeding- 20k per month (bulk buying, bargaining, using a pot of soup or stew for a few days)
School fees - average catholic school in cheap town - 12K per term (term = 3 months school plus 1 month holiday) = 3K per month. There are still good federal government owned schools around.
Transport (everywhere is not Lagos. There are so many places in Nigeria where N40 will take you a long distance. Most times, they can walk to work as distances are not far, or they can follow neighbors and friends that have cars) - N200 daily (N50 to go and come), 5 days a week - 4k per month
Entertainment/airtime/miscellanous- 5K
That's 40k. 10K goes into savings. Madam will ask have something she's doing. She could have a shop, a restaurant, or even a government worker too. Let's assume she makes 40k per month.
That's about 50K monthly going into savings. 600K per annum. That's almost 2M in 3 yrs, 3M in 5yrs. With this, plus little assistance from cooperatives which such people usually join, they can buy a car and build a house. Focused and determined parents can even send a child to covenant university (I have seen several like that, they don't have a car, live in a rented apartment, but have a child in covenant university, while someone with duplex and several cars will be struggling to pay 40k school fees in federal universities)
2M can build an average 2/3 bedroom structure in so many Nigerian towns that are not expensive. They may not even buy land. It may not be fenced. Cheap wooden doors, tiles only in palour, pvc strips for ceiling or any other cheap materials, zinc roofing sheets. It may not even be painted at first. It mustn't be Lekki standard duplex, with imported fittings, stone coated roof etc. Let's also not forget that such houses are usually built over several years, they could get land now, do foundation next year, then build to roofing level next year, roof the next year and finish it the next year. That's 4/5 years.
After building such houses, many decide to rent them out and continue in their rented apartment. Before you know it, with income from rent, plus increased salaries from ogas promotion at work, plus more income from madam since her business has expanded, they will build another house and then another one. Those that spend half their salary at beer palour will then gather and start gossiping about how they are doing illegal stuff or even rituals.
Let's also not forget that such houses are built on the outside of town, in not-yet-well developed areas. So after they built they house, in 10-15 yrs, the place will be more developed and property in that area will be more expensive. You then will be saying how can they afford such expensive property not knowing that it was much cheaper a decade ago when they built theirs.
I know someone will come and ask me now "What about DSTv". Such people watch Strong free to air. Highest, they can combine it with local antenna and cheap subscriptions on GOtv/startimes.
Once again, not everywhere is Lagos or Abuja.
I know someone is coming to ask "what if they have 6 children? " Lol Gossips everywhere |
