Why do Nigerians love their oppressors so much. Both of these men don't care for Nigeria or Africa and will destroy and cause hell in Africa. I don't care for either.

It is like the love of the aggressor. We love the people who have done the most damage to us. Slavery colonization and neocolonization they fund and support many wars in Africa and we continue to worship them. What Is wrong with us?

What you can start by doing is buying African ashions, goods, and art. Also tour and invest in Africa thisw will help. These are ways you can make Africa better!!

But we need to work together, read and understand our histroy. This is the information age and we have information on our fingertips but we do't use it. I know you are conscious why can't more people just be like you? In Nigeria there isn't as easy access to internet but black Americans and black brits have easier access. We should use it as a means to unite with each other and learn from one another.

This is the problem with making finished goods. Those factories being built are bad for the environment due to waste. So if Africa "modernizes" then there may be more waste and a bad environment. Look at how beijing is so polluted. Yes they are rich but is it worth it if they can't live there anymore due to smog in 30 years?

cap28: women who beat up their husbands are very much in the minority and not the norm amongst nigerians. You are always going to get one or two isolated cases of women who beat up their husbands but in no way is this as commonplace as nigerian men who beat up their wives.

I don't condone violence but you both have to understand that women hit men a lot in the west. I've been In relationships where mmy girlfriend would hit me but if I hit her back then I would be going to jail. Did you know that the most domestic violence cases are with lesbian couples?

I'm not saying go beat woomen up. I never have but women play a role in domestic violence too. Its just that men are stronger and police are more biased against men (especially black men). The owner is probably interested in making it a gossip website than a platform for sound discussion. If that's what drive the traffic, why would he behave differently? I know you are in diaspora. It's difficult for someone who has lived in Nigeria and then get to West not to be genuinely concerned about happenings in Nigeria. Why? You realize our problem is not as great as it seems. There is nothing in the whole of Germany and USA(the two countries I am familiar with) that can not be replicated in Nigeria. Nothing! But our political process is such a bad path that leaders who are not even interested in being president kept emerging in a country where presidency is everything.

I have come to conclusion that except the Left in Nigeria shun ethnicity and come together, set up an alternative platform, capture the presidency and restructure the country to a workable federation, development will continue to elude us. Some of us are erroneously fixated on corruption as the sole problem of Nigeria. That's not true. The structure breeds corruption and until the system is redesigned, corruption will continue to grow and even become part of Nigerian culture.

It would be nice if great minds from diverse ethnic backgrounds can come together on this forum to even influence and shape opinions. We can control the media, influence opinions and shape direction of discussion on this platform. We can even set up group that can participate directly in Nigerian political process. That's the power social media has brought to this generation. Let's use it to make an impact.

I used to think it was corruption too. That is a big problem but also inferiority complex and self hatred play a big role in Africa. We complain about the government but we send our kids to school in Europe or America. We buy German cars, Italian clothes, Frnech Champagne, American technology, Chinese Products, Japanese TVs and cars. We go to foreigners for everything instead of looking inward. My parents even did the same thing. I talked to them about it and they agreed with me.

Right now I am in school in America so I am playing a role. I admit it but my parents forced me to go to school here. Next time I am going to an HBCU like Howard or Moorehouse for my Master's and get my MBA from a school in Africa like Lagos business School. Yes even though the HBCU's are in America we have to understand that these schools are African schools too. They are ran by African Americans so that is alright. We need to work on working together as a whole and connecting with the Diaspora. Schools like Howard are bankrupt because there alum go through racism in the workforce and don't pay as much as their white counterparts. Also the black professionals have it hard because when their family member dies they have to pa money whereas when a white person's family member dies they get more money due to wealth. We need to have more of a Pan-African approach in thinking. Working with Jamaicans, Haitians, Afro Brazilians, Afro0Iraqis. We all need to work together to tackle our problems because they are all related in some form.

We are mentally enslaved. Japanese people can take a nuke and return back but 300 years of slavery plus colonization (even longer with the Arab slave trade) has destroyed the African mindset worldwide.

We are educated servants. Japanese and Chinese will serve Asia before America. Africans serve America before Africa. We are the only people who use education to serve other people instead of serving Africa. Even my dad tells me to go to Harvard but if Harvard Business School was so good why is many of the companies in Africa ran by foreigners. Why can't Harvard Business School alum run those? Did you know that Ibeto went to school in Nigeria, Dangote in Egypt and Innocent Chukwuma didn't even finish high school. You DON'T NEED HARVARD!! Chukwuma has started a car manufacturing company in Africa without Harvard. Dangote started cement without Harvard. Ibeto is doing Hotels and auto parts without Harvard. You don't need western education for business. Us Africans just worship our oppressors so much.

Did you know that There is a scholarship called the Rhodes Scholarship and the winners go to Oxford (or Cambridge I forgot) to study. But Cecil Rhodes was a colonizers who killed many Africans. Would Jewish people accept a Hitelr scholarship? So why do we worship people who did the most damge to us. That is like the love of the aggressor syndrome.

Nairaland can indeed be used as a veritable tool of information to change things for the better and put our leaders under real pressure if that is what the owners of this website want. I am of the opinion that a "Jerry Springer" persona is preferred for this forum because that is what generates traffic.

A few 'tweaks' could do magic and really deliver results. We could , as even only one example , have a section specifically designed to address how the FG and Governors , respectively, are handling States and federal responsibility with a bent on pictorial evidence since a picture speaks louder than a thousand words. Most Nigerians have camera phones. A little education can show them how to upload pictures to the net.

This section can show what the FG and Governors are doing well and , most importantly, what they are failing at. NL can then formally approach the FG and State Governors over 'areas of deficiencies'. Nairaland could become a saharareporter with a positive influence i.e dreaded to the point leaders have to respond - because formal questions are asked before the entire world as per why things are not being done. It is not about exposing corruption and negatives alone only for everyone to then begin cursing and baying for blood.

Saharareporters is feared for exposing mainly the negatives 'antics' of our leaders. Sowore is now feared by our leaders and I am sure they would love to buy him off Abati-style. Nonetheless, I don't rate Sowore's effort as 100%. I think we must show the good being delivered. That way, we can be fair and supportive of those who got involved to change things instead of constituting ourselves into a mindless 'lynch mob' when we can be much more effective than that through making a deliberate effort to understand and utilise "people power".

The owner of NL, because of the heavy traffic here, could actually influence good governance by creating an awareness in Nigerians of how to use this age of information to make it tough for our leaders to sit around doing nothing. Does he want to do that? I think not.

It is then down to the rest of us to do our Zuckerberg thing with a political 'spice'. I am getting feedback on a workable platform for something like that right now and will be attempting to engage certain Nairalanders in Nigeria, Ghana and other West African Nations soon. Hopefully I can push out something formal in future to support this idea.

We can get all the degrees we want but at the end of the day we serve the west with our education. We get a PHD in Civil Engineering to work for an American firm and biuld their wealth. We get degrees in computer science to work for Apple to build America. We get a degree in mechanical engineering to work for Ford. We get degrees in finance or accounting to work for goldman sachs or PWC. So with all these degrees we become educated servants to the west. Unless we start to RUN our own businesses then our degrees are useless.

Also with all these so called educated Africans why is it that we always go for foreigners to fix anything in Africa. We gt foreign engineers, doctors, etc. If our education was served to fix Africa's problems we would look inward instead of outward.

Thanks bro, I am trying to promote African economics. I know you are in UK at the time being. If you can wear African clothes casually and buy more African good and invest in Africa then you can develop the economy of Africa. But this has ot be done in the millions for this to happen. It will be hard but every achievement started with a dream.

BTW I wear African clothes all the time and I am in the states, but I am trying to make my way to Africa to build her ASAP.

I see many posts that should be on the front page that can be used to fix our problems but we there are only posts about gossip SMH.

This is a perfect stage to fix the problems of Africa. Most people here are middle to upper class and we have the social and human resources to make a difference. But most of the things on the front page are celebrity, sports, or other things that won't fix Africa's problems. Why don't we put more things on the front page to get African's aware of the problems of the world we can fix them. We have to understand what is going on then find solutions to them. There are many problems that need to be solved about Africa. Can we start using this site to fix them. Not even just talking but ACTIONS??

dasparrow: Very well said. I use essential oils like pure bergamot oil and Ylang-Ylang from time to time. I also take all natural herbal vitamins/supplements and drink all natural herbal teas as well. I can't remember the last time I needed to see a doctor. Thank God for natural herbs. Our leaders should learn how to take good care of their health before it is too late because running to the west will not necessarily save their lives.

In rural areas, you still find advanced women in their 70's very fit and strong doing work and all that. They eat natural food and herbs and hardly get sick or big tummy. But these new generations have embraced western lifestyle and you very much know all the complications that comes with it.

In fact, our fore fathers were even more creative in treating different kinds of diseases.... However, they didn't document it in writing but passed it down to their forebears who were gifted or learned the process thoroughly and practically. This is what our people negatively label "Herbalist or Native Doctor" today and shy away from all forms of it. Rather we put all our faith in the hands of strangers in distant lands. In essence, our fore fathers were more inventive than us despite the fact that we are in the modern age with access to technology than they ever had.

Ever since the beginning of this year, I have only bought African clothes and products. I plan on doing all 6 of these things once I get more money.
I am sick of seeing Africans spending millions of dollars on European and American clothes. If we spend this same money on African clothes then more people will become tailors and this will create jobs. I see many Africans going to tourism in outside of Africa and they spend thousands abroad. If they did tourism inside the continent then this will put a lot of money into the economies. We need to buy Innoson cars instead of Ford. Toyota didn’t become great out of nowhere, many Asians supported them and they finally got big. Africans need to support Innoson so it can become as big as Toyota. We import too many cars and this make forex (foreign exchange) leave Nigeria. When forex leaves then our currency becomes weaker. We need to gain foreign exchange so our currency becomes stronger. we need to be producing our cars and exporting them.

There are companies that produce shoes and clothes that are all manufactured in Africa as well If we support them and work together we can build the economy. Too much money is leaving Africa and I am promoting Intra-African trade. Right now Africa only has 2% of global trade. If we can improve this to 10% then poverty will be alleviated, jobs created, better healthcare, better education, and less crime.

By casualizing African clothes and wearing it more often than to special occasions this will develop the economy. Instead of wearing dress pants and a dress shirt and tie, wear African clothes to work, school, events, and other functions.

Once we get economic power we can become a super power. Right now Africa is only 2% of global trade so Nigeria is less than 1% global trade. We need to become PRODUCERS instead of consumers. We need to make FINISHED cars, computers, and other goods instead of importing them. If you look at GDP we are not doing very well.
