Travel / Re: Customs Checks At Murtala Muhammad Airport, Lagos by igbogolo: 5:23pm On Sep 17, 2011
I had a different experience at departure two years ago. I had a lot of stuff in my bag ( fish, dried ogi, okra, yams, etc). The man asked me what i had in my bag, I told him i had ogi and beans. he asked me if i was a student i said yes. he just closed my bag and waved me on. I was wearing running shoes ( old one for that matter), sports trousers and a tee shirt. it was at the scanners ( departure) that i noticed theft on four legs.

One man placed his wallet and iphone in the tray but was just too slow to follow his stuff through the scanner to the other end. when he was done pulling his shoes and belt, his bag, wallet and iphone had passed the scanner and someone picked it. when he was done he only saw his bag. no wallet, no iphone. I was looking at him. he walked back to the other side of the scanner and looked and turned around and started asking everybody weather they saw his wallet and iphone. no body looked at him. he then wanted to cross the scanner to the other side and he was stopped and told to remove his shoes and belt again and place it in the tray to be scanned. he then spent another 5 minutes waiting to be passed through the scanner. by the time i got to the same point he was sweating and arguing with the immigration woman that sat next to the scanner. the woman was fair from bleaching cream with long red nails and red lipstick and was eating gum and making so much noise with it. she completely ignored him and continued as if he was not even talking to her.

By the time i was ready to put my stuff, i was as agile as a hawk. immediately i put my stuff through the scanner i had already moved to be searched. I kept my eyes on my tray until they were done patting me and grabbed my items. imagine taking someones stuff in a european airport when you dont even know what the person is carrying, hmmm, na wa oh.

Ga.ynanians telling you bizarre stories about Lagos and you believe those dumb fecccekks? if you carry too much you most def would be stopped. if they ask for bribe do not buldge. if they try to intimidate you, POLITELY stand your ground. smile but refuse too compromise. thats all i can say to you.

i have passed customs in lagos many times with big bags but surprisingly was not searched or stopped. its only once that a very crazy woman put her hands into my duty free bag ( i was coming from dubai) and took a chocolate bar and refused to hand it back. so pack your stuffs well into your bag and do not flash duty free bags  filled with goodies before them lol.

and btw, i hate those man-lover-nanian scumbags who always have negative things to say about Nigeria. bunch of jealous haters thoe mooofuckers are, hiss!

I think you are lying and that you are very unserious with your studies. You are a very unserious person. you will not get any visa to canada or australia without proper documentation in your circumstances except if you are an exchange student with approval from your US university. You would have to explain to the visa officers why you want to abandon your studies and why you would also not abandon your studies in canada/australia like you did here. and it seems to me that your visa is about to run out. and like vicjustice said you cannot apply for a visa without a residence permit. the best bet for you is to get back your university registration in the US and then apply for a visa extension from within the USA. any other option is deportation when caught. then you can kiss good bye to us, australia or canada because they share info on deported persons. you get that?

You were sick so you could not register,  but you were well enough to seek canadian admission while you could not explain to your school in the US why you could not register. what sickness was that btw?. So after spending a year in the US, you want to abandon that for another country where you can also get sick after another year and look for where else to go.

Bros get serious! this your story sounds wimpish. I did my studies abroad too and there are people who were allowed to re register even after they dropped out mid way. you said you were sick right? then why was the school not notified and where is the medical papers to prove you were indeed sick. take the documents back to the school in the US and get back to class!

You think the canadians wont verify? u think so? well try that and you will be on the first flight on handcuffs back to nigeria as they most certainly would inform the US authorities, who would not hesitate to haul your Bottom back to nigeria.

You think US na aristo like naija schools where you can decide not to come to class, eat your cake and have it right back. after spending a year in  the states and burning cash and time, you suddenly want to abandon it and run away to another country where you can continue your unfettered access to flexing.

sorry you will soon run out of time. better make use of the opportunity for an american degree or regret it for the rest of your life

Hello Everyone,

I entered the United States about two years ago on a student visa and I attended the school for a full academic year then  last spring I couldn't register for class as I was sick and travel to another state and miss the registration deadline so now I'm out of status, but I just got an admission from a Canadian school and planning to submit my study permit application to the Canadian embassy in Washington. My question now is do you think the Canadian embassy will try to confirm my immigration status here in USA?I already contacted them and they said I can send in my application here in US if I'm legally admitted into the United States.

I just need your own opinion on this as I'm not ready to return home prefer to move to Canada or Australia.

OAM4J:

Osayomi, Odumosu fetch Nigeria more gold

Taekwondo grabs one gold, one bronze

YESTERDAY at the Mozambique National Stadium in Zimpetu, Nigerian golden girl, Damola Osayomi, added another chapter to her comeback story when she won the women 200 metres race in 22.86 seconds.

The gold medal yesterday was the third time Osayomi would cause Nigeria’s national anthem to be played at the stadium in this competition, which is her first since returning from a six-month suspension for using banned substance at the 2010 Commonwealth Games in India. Osayomi had earlier won the 100 metres women and the 4x100 metres relay gold.

Speaking on her feat yesterday, Osayomi, who could not stop praising God for being with her in her trying times, said she was grateful to Nigerians for their support, “even when it seemed that the whole world was against me.”

She said: “I go to church and I pray to God to guide me in all I do and this is the reward. Even though this is not my personal best (my best is 22.74 seconds), I am happy that I have been able to defend my crown.”

Earlier in the 400 metres women hurdles, Ajoke Odumosu ran a time of 56.27 seconds to win gold ahead of South Africa’s Wender Tyrone. Nigeria’s other entry into the race, Lesley Njoku, however, ended eighth. An ecstatic Odumosu said after the race that she was “happy to win against the difficult condition,” adding that she would continue to train hard for the challenges ahead.

“I am happy to be getting back at my best because it is important that I remain fit at all times,” she said. “I am looking forward to the Olympics because I believe anything can happen there once I am fit. The conditions here were very difficult, so I was forced to do my best to win the race.”

To Njoku, finishing last was a big disappointment, but he was not too bothered because he knows he could do better for his country. He said: “This is my first competition since the All Nigeria Championship in Calabar, and I must thank the Nigerian federation for giving me this opportunity to serve my country.

“I am now going back to my school, Georgia Tech, to train and prepare for the Olympics because I know there is more I can do for Nigeria.”

Also yesterday, Team Nigeria’s taekwondo star, Jamilu Mohammed, defeated his Cote d’Ivoire opponent in the 58 kg class to add another gold to Nigeria’s kitty, while Joy Ekhiator won bronze medal in the -48 kg after losing to her Malian opponent in the semi-final of the event.

Meanwhile, the national basketball team, D’Tigers, yesterday defeated Egypt by 72 to 59 points to also make the semi-final of the event.

NONSENSE! did you follow the just conclued games at daegu? Osayomi and co all came last. we are celebrating 53.06secs in the 400m when the likes of montsho( 49.76) and sanya richards are there with 48.78 secs. even in the 4x100, the girls came second to last and also came last in the 400m at daegu, south korea. for more see the following links:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yYczFx8t5kQ
for this 4x400, there was almost 200m gap between USA and Nigeria. Shame!

Osayomi gets us second to last.

IMHO, there is nothing to celebrate. They need to get back to training FAST!

well she is right, her smoking becomes my business when it is done in a closed room or anywhere where secondary smoke comes into contact with me! when that happens it becomes my business because I am being forced to inhale tonto dikes smoke coming from her infected lungs laced with arsenic, carbon di oxide, tuberculosis and other respiratory ailments she may have!

Also she must NOT be a role model, its the parents responsibility to train their kids and not for them to learn manners from movie actresses like tonto dike. so for those thinking that she has to be a role model please leave her alone.

And when she gets the cancer ( i dont wish her to), it will also not be my business to offer any help or even to read it in the papers. so everybody is free to live his/her life.

Deltalife,

What a useless life you have. Because the Igbos have the highest number of criminals makes every Igbo a robber ? Cos Delta girls and benin girls play professional bed soccer in Italy and Spain makes all edo girls and delta girls LovePeddlers?

A lot of you guys need to have your heads examined. Boko is even Anti-islam. A muslim must never shed the blood of a fellow muslim. Did you guys know the number of muslims that died in the UN Bomb attack?

I am a muslim and i don't support boko haram. A lot of muslims and christians have inter married, so what the heck are you fools talking about.

Nuff said

please supply the statistics that you used to categorise igbos as having the highest number of criminals. besides thats beside the point. we are talking about a religion with more than a billion followers scattered all over the globe, the most common denominator withinn this group is VIOLENCE.

which religion turns against its country men when there is a cartoon of your mohammed in far away denmark?
which religious adherents pounce on their fellow men and burn churches when they have a quarrel amongst themselves?

a sane southern christian will never marry a hajia from kano in the 21st century. if you know of any please name them. how is boko haram anti islam when their agenda is the islamisation of nigeria?

the UN is a hallmark of the christian west which islam has sworn to fight. so as long as its the UN, its a fine target by disgruntled moslems.

why did they go to somalia to learn the illicit act of suicide bombing, what else pushes someone to fanaticism if not indoctrination by islamic extrimists?

'a muslim must never shed the blood of a fellow muslim' abi? tell that to the dead moslems and christians that have dies during the last NYSC tragedy.

Finally, it you who is a fool. u and your stupid religion and brainwashed adherents are fools. you are all here doing the bidding of an arabic religion when they dont even regard you people as human beings. wake up and smell the coffee and stop ranting nonsense. when the country finally divides, please stay in your desert north and dessicate.

Did any one watch the Dbanj's collabo with snoop and how he was calling snoop 'uncle'? Hmmm, i for one did not like it.
Dbanj's preoccupation at the moment is courting US singers and I hope this strategy works for him. However I am strongly with psquare on this. Our music industry and nollywood is very unique and its this uniqueness that has ignited the nigerian frenzy and passion for naija music. Dbanj should stand on his own and quit looking for a marriage of convenience with US singers.

Psquare by miles wins by popularity in Africa. I visited Liberia and Senegal ( like someone mentioned) and its Psquare all the way. Even in nigeria, admidst the flurry of new artists( and irritating ones too),I dare say psquare is head and shoulders above them all!

Collaborating and chasing US artists is not their strategy and they have made it known, I dont see it as being jealous or hating.

This na my own opinion

EFCC busts $3.5b Power Project Scam

advertisement

The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has foiled an attempt to swindle a US-based company, Sunergy Worldwide Incorporated of about $3.5billion over a non-existing power project in the country.

Also, the commission has launched a manhunt for the Managing Director of the Nigerian firm, Arvokad Resources Plc, Mr. Jonathan Dike, who was allegedly central to the scam.

Investigation by our correspondent showed that the MD and directors of Arvokad had sought partnership with the American firm to build a $7billion solar energy plant.

Based on bid documents with purported official endorsement of the project by the Ministry of Power and Energy, the American company accepted to fund the project.

But at the point of remitting its 50 per cent of the cost of the project, the bubble burst following discovery by the American firm that Arvokad was not involved in any IPP plant in Nigeria .

A top source in the anti-graft commission, who spoke in confidence, said: “The controversial Nigerian firm, Arvokad, is purportedly located at 138, Aba – Owerri Road in Abia State.

“According to preliminary findings by the EFCC, Arvokad sought a deal with the American company by claiming that it was acting on behalf of the Ministry of Power and Energy. Arvokad sought for partnership with Sunergy and asked the American firm to submit a quotation of $7bilion for a solar energy power project for the Federal Government.

The US company did as directed and thereafter, it was informed that it has been short-listed as the favoured bidder by the Contract Award Committee of the Ministry of Power and Energy.”

The source added, “As part of our discovery, officials of Arvokad impersonated a former Minister of Power, Nuhu Wya , by presenting documents claiming that the ex-Minister presided over the contract award committee,” and asked the American firm to remit 50 per cent of the counterpart funding valued at $3.5 billion.

“But shortly before the remittance, the CEO of Sunergy Worldwide Incorporated, Yua Xu contacted the recently established EFCC’s Transaction Clearing Platform (TCP) to verify the authenticity of the contract details. The TCP cautioned the American firm to withhold the remittance of the counterpart funds pending verification. And at the end of the day, it turned out to be a big scam and the affected foreign firm was communicated, and advised not to remit any money.”

The source said the EFCC is already on the trail of the Managing Director of Arvokad, Jonathan Dike and any of its directors. “We have launched a manhunt for all those with stakes in the company; we will certainly arrest them for necessary grilling, “the source said.

Contacted, the Head of Media and Publicity of the EFCC, Mr. Femi Babafemi said: “We have bust the scam but investigation is in progress.”

Its not just in the nigerian culture to be slim. exercising takes a great deal of personal effort and deprivation and most importantly, self discipline. I have gone for laps in temperatures of -6C by as early as 6am when most people would be cuddled in bed sleeping. I asked myself if i was mad but I continued going in the cold. Its not easy to do laps upon laps of running. Till date I do 2 hours run three times weekly in addition to cycling, swimming, yoga., weights etc. I am a bit underweight but trim and very fit.

so how well disposed are nigerian women to exercise? they go to work, come back so late, eat, mess, go to bed, wake up by 4am, use 2 hours for make up, get late to work and the cycle continues till saturday. then they have to fix weavon, buy spanks( to gather the adipose tissues), then sunday they spend half the day in church, the other half in traffic coming back from church and the cycle continues till no end. yet they will never diet.

If i ever work in naija again, i will not trade my exercise routine for work. Health is wealth! I will try and make time to do something at least twice a week. women should have that disposition as well.

Its simple, determination and self discipline.
