Travel / Re: Emirates Airline Paints Nigeria Bad On Their Website by igbogolo: 11:00am On Jun 22, 2009
@all,

I struggle to understand why emirates wrote this. The so called flights to Lagos are filled mostly by Nigerians so who are the travel alerts for? I do not think it is prpoer for the airline to do this. vigilance is required of any passenger whereever he or she is going. To hand out such info to passengers coming to nigeria is so IMPROPER because they could be undermining our tourism potential. If the UAE wants to issue travel alert warnings to their citizens coming to Nigeria, they can. For emirates( an airline) to hand out travel info to other nationals, apparently unsolicited, is not right.
Honestly, i think a lot needs to be fixed in Nigeria, but allowing an airline that makes money on nigerian routes to spit at us in this manner, calls for urgent action.

@global paul

I think its risky for you to say you want to travel to canada just to work for your uncle when you come back! consider it oh. it does not sound convincing to me from here. canada( from what i eventually got from the embassy) have seen 'successful' people claiming assylum etc once they got there. so please beware of that line.
look for something more convincing. of course they will want to be assured that you will come back. tie it to something you have been doing in Nigeria or something you have a passion to do. you already have family ties already but they may still want something extra.
or just say you want to study to enhance your employability in Nigeria.
this uncle thingy of yours seems somehow ooo
just my thoughts

I have been following this forum even after I was denied a visa to study in Canada. Please take your Job. if the visa works out you are better for it. if it doesnt you are still better off for it. Okay?

And please again broaden your search for suitable universities. Norway is beautiful and they have wonderful after work oppourtunities. I suffered for almost 67 days before the denial note from the canadian embassy came. I do not think I can let anyone do that to me again. I have since relocated to Edinburgh where am enjoying my studies

Good luck with your application. I eventually got my canadian visiting visa from the London office some weeks back. I am gunning for my Ph.D now and guess what am not even considering Canada. Such is life.

Please biko take your new Job inula?

My dear,
I know how you feel about this issue.
The fact is that something really needs to eb done about this particular issue.
Collecting application fees when they know they will not give the visa even when its apparent that the applicant has met all the requirements is theft.
the question is 'where do we start'??

LOL!! Oga James Baba, abeg no vex. I 'neva' achieve anything. I come trembling and humbled at your throne. You are the custodian of justice and vengenace. Am at your feet begging for mercy.
LOL! why dont you just take the IELTS an proove your english competence and stop cowering on nairaland looking for an 'illiterate' way out?? If they want you to demonstrate a certain experience with the language simply PROOVE yourself. I took IELTS myself even after being ridiculed. Its no big deal.
Its also curious you ignored the advise given in my post. people that are obviously challenged are studying overseas. but I would certainly question your mastery of the language if i receive an application letter with that horrible english. if you need help with your statement of intent, why dont u seek help from a professional LOL!!
well my stupid' grammar' has helped some of my friends get admission. it always pays to have someone edit your letter. there might be things you missed!!!!! LOL!!
and i still doubt you wrote this second coomment. u see what i mean?? get prople to help you get across even if its hurling insults at igbogolo. HAHAHHAHAHAHAHAHAAHAH

sweden is not nigeria. they have very high educational standards. you just must do the right thing. thats how their system works. besides you are applying to be admitted into a UNIVERSITY. A UNIVERSITY JAMES. let that ring in your head.
Education / Re: Wht Is Wrong In Sweden Admission Plz: I Need Your Input: by igbogolo: 8:59am On May 15, 2009
@ James baba

from your writing, i think you do need some coaching in english language. the swedes are quite serious about laid down admission procedures. why dont you try the UK? There are a lot of schools that will take you even if you are not well grounded in english. afterall there are so many chinese guys here in edinburgh in my class that can barely hear english!
Maybe you might consider taking the IELTS fr example? that will help boost your admission chances

sad story indeed. i got my south african visa in lagos in just a day. a highly connected friend took just my passport and passport photographs. the next day by 5pm i was told to come collect my visa. funny thing is that i did not even go to south africa eventually. such is life.
i honestly wont subject myself to the humiation of paying a 'repatration fee'. whats that??
i have passed the abuja embassy a couple of times. dont see many people there most times. maybe u guys should go to abuja and apply.

This thread should be closed. Why waste your time bragging about nigeria and ghana? Its silly to me. Is it not obvious who has the inferiority complex? People that complain too much about the other person often lack credibility.
Forget this thing about ghana and naija. we all know the sterotypes right now. you are aware of the 'unhidden' animosity towards you. please conduct your self with the realization of what the other thinks about you.
For one the british have very courteous manners. it does not mean they like you. so if you are deceived by outward appearance and you 'open' yourself too much, the same people will deport you!
So appreciate your time a bit more and spend it on making your lives better! leave ghana naija bashing to the morons.

LOL! Am not an arik employe and yes am passionate about the nigerian airline. Bellview has not quite lived to expectations so am holding my breath praying for the golden dawn to emerge from Nigeria. I have been around quite a bit and have suffered indignity in these foreign airlines. the annoying part is that we pay the most yet served the least. thats rubbish!
if their services were commensurate with the fees then maybe ,there will be business for them. but paying high fees to receive insults and battery? haba check am now.

so let us know what your experience was okay?

Thanks.
we all know the problem of nigeria airways. it was a management problem. same with nepa and nitel.
arik has consolidated its hold on the lagos -london route. i have flown them once and it was REALLY REALLY nice. emirates might just be better but arik was def better than BA and the host of chaffy foreign airlines that fly the nigerian air space.
I really pray that they sustain the tempo. BA has to be taught an arrogant lesson. Imagine refusing passengers to disembark from a smouldering plane. What does safety say about smoke in the cockpit? yes, oxygen helps to ignite fire so doors should be closed but in this case,EVACUATION should have taken precedence. But NO, almighty Bad Attitude airlines allowed their high fee paying passengers to endure an agonizing 3 hours, choking and gorging on carbon monoxide that nearly axphisiated them.
well, we all are free to make choices. as for me, its bye bye to BA
Travel / Re: Aero Slashes Domestic Air Fare To N7, 000 by igbogolo: 2:35pm On Feb 14, 2009
wow
thats a great thing to hear. it doesnt make sense to me to fly empty when a small reduction in price can fill the plane.
its a good strategy and I commend aero. And yes they definetly have a great customer service and flight experience. I enjoy flying with them most times
lets see if almighty arik will follow suit. their shakara atimes too much. they charge 3k above what others charge on the same route
this is surely a tough time for airline operators and i wish them well.
may the best team win!

its very difficult for anyone o advise you based on what u have submitted. can u be more specific? what excatly do u mean by your status
how are u there for 10 years? are u a permanent resident or what
what have u been doing there that gave u the money to pay your fees in canada
are u a nigerian citizen( i note u used 'niger')
applying from outside nigeria is always a preferable option but that depends on your legal status in the outside country.
other people might be able to help when u becomme more explicit

so sorry to hear about the refusal. you said you are on scholarship and then said your sponsor paid all your fees? who is your sponsor? i thought you said you are on scholarship?
i can also see you have been denied thrice. thats getting pretty messy.
are u a man or woman?
at this stage i would honestly advise you to stay away form that embassy. i ts either you stay away oy you go ahead and appeal.  every refusal case has an appeal mechanism but most times they dont tell you.
what program did u want to do in canada? what caliber of university is that? does teh school run a january and sept program? if not please do not waste your time again waiting till nezt september. goelsewhere and get your education and u can always go to canada from there.
i have a friend that was a big boy in the bank that was denied visa. told him that he wont come back to naija. the guy just bought land and his wife was due in 3 months. all that he presented to the canadian embassy.
i find it difficult to let go of something i want and i suspect thats the same with you. but in the face of this 3rd rejection, please reconsider. dont let the canadian embassy put you on a tie.
search. check other places. my friends are even fleeing the us crying that there is nothing there for them.
my friends got fantastic jobs in qatar and saudi araibia and yemen. yes middle east something they never got in us and canada.
summary: right now they don dey carry u do yeye for that embassy. do not let then return that white rejection paper with terrible hand writing on you again the fourth time. biko!

Travel / Arik Air Flight To London by igbogolo: 9:14pm On Feb 05, 2009
Hello everyone

ahs anyone amongst us ever flown arik to the united kingdom. well i did and would really want to share my experience with everyone.
it was a lovely flight. the food was good with drinks flowing freely till the pland taxied to a halt at heathrow. i was at the economy section but meen i had enough leg room. the plane is so big you could play football in it. the carpet was fresh and the seats lovely.
the flight was marvellous. smooth and pleasing. i am a boeing fan but i give it to the airbus A350 500. the carbin was quiet and the airconditioning perfect.

wooow am so excited. i have always dreamt for a day when a nigerian carrier will muscle the overbearing and irritable BadAttitude airlines for naija -london route. we nigerians have suffered in the hands of these foreign airlines and arik was even cheaper,

Kudos to arik air. i really wish them wella nd hope they sustain the tempo.
Travel / Re: Arik Air Is A Hoax And A Scam! by igbogolo: 9:08pm On Feb 05, 2009
@ Nemeziz9ja

I think you might have to conduct an opinion poll about arik air.
I am glad to announce that i flew arik to nigeria and i got hooked. the plane was crisp with world class service. and yes the plane was filled to the brim. only few spaces in the first class section.
the air hosts were multi racial( like in emirates), with very very very polite nigerian air hostesses. the economy section which i sat had more leg room than BA world traveller plus.
really, i do not have any reason to fly virgin atlantic to naija again or Bad Attitudes airlines and I am so glad that finally a nigerian carrier is taking its rightful place on that London route. Arik is even cheaper with free option of changing your flight date.

Nemeziz9ja, no one is saying you do not have a right to complain but please do it dispassionately. take it upon yourself to ask others about arik air and then convince yourself.

Hmmm,
its all good. is it not the same canadian embassy ''in all their supposed wisdom'' granted visas to these horrible fellows after ''through and exhaustive'' enquiries by the canadian embassy in Nigeria. An embassy that claims superficial powers to delve into the subconcious minds of applicants and mytically extract ''bona fide'' information from them.
Or else how can one explain the granting of visas to two disgusting fellows by the same embassy that claims mytical powers of the unknown?
I have no pity for them whatsoever. My only pain is that these two rogues have already cemented the already worsening public image of nigerians in the diasporia.

@ all

I was denied visa to canada last year/ the same reason that i am not a bona fide student bla bla bla. im doing my course now at the university of edinburgh.
the issue is that no visa officer has the right to say u are not bonafide when you have your admission letter and you can show the connection of the course u want to study to your work. in most cases its not even the visa officers perogative to match your course to your program. you, the applicant , have every right to change course and or career.
the visa officer cannot read your mind so saying you are not bonafide when u have your admission latter and reasons for the course cannot be admissible incase you want to appeal that decision and i will advise everyone here whoi has been unduly denied visas to appeal. two people i know did it and were granted their visas. im not too sure of that appeal mechanism but i will find out and post it here.
and guys look beyond canada. australia national university remains another university. there are many top notch universities in norway and france. for those doing engineering programs IFP school in france is a good place to kick start a career.
be simple filling your application forms. if you are working please get a study leave letter even if your company is not sponsoring you. that is a good guard against that 'ties to your home country'.
wish u all luck in your applications. i am not regretting doing my course in scotland.

people who have the information can assist and there is no shame in asking for help. I have found that info from people and suggestions can be very helpful atimes. google does not solve everything
