OP you forgot the greatest of them all. Awolowo. When he was caught for planning a coup for a second time, exposed to IBB by his fellow Yorubas, Jakande in particular. IBB gave Awolowo three options. 1. Go to life jail for treason. 2. Get killed in a firing squad 3. Go on exile. Awolowo left all the above and took the coward way out. He took Otapiapia and ran away from life to avoid going to jail again for same offence he went to jail for in 1960s. Awolowo was a coward who couldn't face the consequences of his own actions but chose to run away from them by taking his own life. http://247ureports.com/how-awolowo-committed-suicide-by-abdulmumini-adeku/ |
Lawsimon:Interesting. ESUT need to take up their case with NUC then. Something is wrong somewhere. |
Lawsimon:Where is your official NUC site saying that Rivers State University was established before ESUT? The only State University that competes with ESUT for that title is Ambrose Alli University Ekpoma, and not Rivers state. Rivers state is not even in the discussion. ESUT previously ASUTECH was the first State University in Nigeria. |
Justiceleague1:Ziks VP was professor Ishaya Audu, an Hausa man. Awolowo VP was Phillip Umeadi an Igbo man Shagari VP was Alex Ekwueme, an Igbo man. It's all in the link I shared. In 1983, Awolowo dropped Phillip Umeadi and went for an Hausa man, Mallam Mohammed Kura, as his VP. Of course, you wouldn't know because the Yorubas have wielded the media for far too long and used it to damage and paint Ndiigbo black. It's only internet that leveled the play field and allowed young Igbos like myself start debunking age long lies about Igbos spurned by Lagos-Ibadan express way gutter media propaganda machine. |
Justiceleague1:Please Igbos never voted for Shagari in 1979 or 1983. You seem to have read too many Lagos-Ibadan express way propaganda media. Shagari, Awo and Zik were the major three contenders for the presidency in 1979 and 1983. Awo and Shagari had Igbos as VP. But the Igbo candidate was Zik of NPP and he cleared more than 80% of the votes casted in East Central states. NPN of Shagari won the election, but they didn't have enough numbers in the Senate or house assembly to form a clear majority, so they negotiated with Zik NPP and went into a coalition government in the Senate and house of representatives. If Awolowo had won, he would have still gone into coalition with Zik NPP because his party wouldn't have had enough numbers in the NASS to form majority and he already had an Igbo man by name, Umeadi as his VP. It's no secret that by 1979, the Yoruba and North gang up forged during the civil war against the East was at its death throes and both groups could not tolerate each other, hence were left to scramble for Igbo support to outdo each other in 1979. https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/1979_Nigerian_presidential_election

Una mumu never do? Kill yourselves, when you are done, Fulani herdsmen are on stand by in your bushes to mop up whoever won and claim your lands. Sense is just far away from Southern Nigeria ethnic groups. Unite and chase away the Fulanis occupying your farmlands, Mba. Nah to fight and bicker with each other over small lands that you can easily sit on a table and share amicably while you unite to face the real enemy. |
As an outsider who stayed in Ondo before Aketi came and few months after he came. I can say that Ondo was better under Mimiko than under Aketi. Aketi was an average if not sub-par governor as far as performance was concerned. |
Coldie:I don't like the direction this our discussion is going. The diversion is becoming too much. |
I hope no IPOB falls into the trap of coming here to start vilifying Ogoni and her people. Ogoni people fought for Biafra. Wiwa was a shortsighted young man who couldn't see what Kogbara and other Ogoni leaders were saying. Too bad.
|
Coldie:Because we want Biafra does not mean that while we are Nigeria, we wouldn't demand for our rights, equity and fairness. Don't get it twisted. |
Coldie:What's happening in Katsina. I have been there before. There is nothing there. I was in Funtua on my way to Sokoto. Nnaa, if you see the flood of almajiri that rushed our vehicle o! Don't kid yourself. They don't have it better there. |
MuchAdo:We want more than bragging rights. If bragging rights is all enough to make Ijaws happy, then good for them. We are Igbos. We know we deserve more and will not settle for less. |
oilyngbati:My father elder brother died in the war. Nnaa, I don't want to tell you how many we are in my family, we are batallion. He has to make up for the elder brother vacuum, since he inherited his lands and other things. The Umunna kept pestering him to replenish the Obi. There was a baby boom in Igboland post civil war. The baby boom meant that most couldn't go to school, so we had a set back in education, as family finances were focused on replenishing lost populations. It was later that the first borns after making money through trading, sent money home for the younger ones to go to tertiary institution. It was this vacuum in education experienced in Igboland between 1970 to early 80s, as all resources were channelled to raising bigger families, that allowed Yorubas take a lead on us in education and created the myth of Igbos being traders majorly. Immediately we were done with replenishing lost population in Biafra, we went back to school and pushed them back. |
MuchAdo:For bragging rights. ![]() We mostly want Biafra. Do a survey in Igboland and ask us to choose between Nigerian presidency and Biafra, many would choose both as they are not mutually exclusive. But most would prefer Biafra if we must pick one. ![]() |
Coldie:But the population matters. If it doesn't, we wouldn't be having this conversation. Population matters. You just need them to be resourceful population. Which we can do in Republic of Igboland. |
senatordave1:You speaking on probability. Considering their bigger landmass and less erosion prone land, would you have believed we were ahead of them to start with? ![]() We are Igbos, we beat the odds. That's what we do. We stick out like sore thumbs. ![]() |
Coldie:That's the point. Igbo man does not think about what others are doing or not doing, whether they failed or succeeded. He just says what he wants and would pursue, and others start saying he is trying to insult them or act haughty. I didn't say anything about other groups human resources. I'm only focused about Igbo human resources, but see how you are trying to twist my words |
MuchAdo:We helped GEJ become President and we don't see how his presidency helped local fishermen in Ogbia. Their water is still polluted and they can't even afford clean water, despite being surrounded by water. Nigerian presidency apart from helping commoners win inter tribal banters, seem almost useless. Look at the hordes of almajiris trooping from North to South. Northern presidency failed those kids. |
MuchAdo:Useless stats. It tells more about state of registration and registration and use of the telephone lines. There is also case of multiple line users. |
Coldie:Imo has big gas reserve, likewise Anambra. Ebonyi is blessed with solid mineral resources, and fertile lands. Enugu would have to get more innovative leaders, leverage on its real estate sector, and try to develop the Emene industrial estate more. |
senatordave1:Niger Republic and Chad still practice polygamy and are Muslims, yet are sparsely populated. Don't be deceived. Many people we call Hausas in Nigeria are not, many are Chadians and Niger people they are giving free access to flood Nigeria. Polygamy has never been a main determinant factor in population. Look at Saudi Arabia the home of Islam with polygamy, despite the rich oil economy, they are not even up to 45m people in Saudi. |
Coldie:Educated and resourceful population counts. |
senatordave1:Polygamy doesn't always mean more children. We are many in my family and my parents are not polygamists. Many times, monogamy ensures more children are successfully brought from infant to adulthood with better quality of life and ready to start the reproduction process all over again. The Igbo have a closely knitted family system. It's not magic. In Igbo we say, "Uzo nwanyi abughi uzo nwa " and "Otutu nwanyi, abughi otutu nwa". Translated to early marriage doesn't guarantee early birthing of children, and many wives doesn't translate to many living children. ![]() |
MuchAdo:What stats exactly? You are becoming emotional now. |
MuchAdo:Igbo is still Igbo, yesterday, today and tomorrow. That you falsified things and refuse to live in truth to suppress the Igbo, does not stop the Igbo from being Igbo. We remain Ndiigbo , and our time will still come again. Hopefully in an independent Igbo republic. |
MuchAdo:Ask Nigeria. They will not publish the result of state-of- origin, only state of residence. They can even use BVN like you said to determine the population of ethnic groups, but they wouldn't. The result of such I suppose would not be favourable to the owners of one Nigeria. |
senatordave1:I have a Biase Friend who told me they are Efiks. Biase like claiming Efik. Yes I know they have Igbo influences. Are there even any minority group in Eastern region without Igbo influence? Even Ugep are Igbos materially. The woman their founder married was an Igbo woman from Abiriba and she named her first son Ibe, using Igbo language. Ugep people would repeat this story and link to Ndiigbo before the war. But after the war, everything has been doctored and an Ugep would fight you if you dare link him to Igbo. Such is the situation Ndiigbo found ourselves in post 1970. |
senatordave1:We lost children and elderly. They were easily replaced after the war. The Igbo omenana have a way of ensuring that "Ama agaghi echi", ask an Igbo to explain that for you. I don't know what you are talking about. An Igbo family is monogamous but always at least 6 members, some more. You are on your own. |
MuchAdo:Nope. PVC is calculated based on where a voter registered. If I'm an Igbo and registered in Bida, it would be counted for Niger state and not Anambra. |
hammerP:Liberia president, I think. https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Edward_James_Roye |
