In Lagos, what I have seen:

Young Yoruba men and women (less than say 39 years of age) - People are calling them woke, soro-soke and liberal. They voted Obi.

Older Yoruba men and women.(mostly people over 39 years of age) - The voted Tinubu. They are conservative and sticking to the old guns and along tribal lines.

Typical, the younger are worried for the future, the older are comfortable holding on to what little they have. But, calling them woke/liberal... Ha. People wanting basic rights, infrastructure and security are liberal? lol. That's why I'm not a fan of the conservative/liberal terms.
As the world seems to get more "liberal" with each generation. The terms slide as well. Perspective is everything.

Unfortunately, I saw the election through the lens of the US. And was conflicted. Happy, I guess that we have elections, but disappointed and frustrated that that's where we are as a country in the 21st century. Those images of lack of basic infrastructure and scenes of Police stealing ballot boxes. It was disappointing.

She quoted the rule that Trump rolled back and compared that to the train's payload, there isn't much room for interpretation here. If any of those facts were false, then it would be easy to find out.

What she posted was not a factual statement. There were a lot of caveats left out to make it factual. Was trying to figure out her motivations for the statement.. and what do you know, she was appointed by Trump in 2018 to her position. So, part of the Trump administration that would have scrubbed these regulations. So, part of her defense would be a defense of herself.

Not saying she isn't right, but it reaffirms my earlier suspicion to wait for other experts to weigh in.

So, just to get it together. This is a Democratically elected NTSB official trying to tamp town the politicization. That being said, her statement is questionable. Her argument is that the regulation only applied to trains carrying 20+ class 3 flammable cars. And because this train only carried 3 such cars, the regulation wouldn't have impacted this train. Statutorily true, but still some interesting logic.

Let me give you an example, in my company, we order parts for use in development and manufacture, and because there is a cost associated with using certain parts we tend to build around those parts, even though something cheaper may work.

So, her argument is that the train industry wouldn't have eventually upgraded every car, given 1.) the cost of maintaining dual break systems/ parts and 2.) the complexities of scheduling these materials around which cars they can use. And also by killing that rule, it set a ceiling in terms of these types of regulations instead of floor. Meaning with a floor more regulations could have been added. or the implementaion could have been increased.

I'm always open to being wrong. I'll respect her words, but I'm going to wait till other experts weigh in as this reasoning seems somewhat suspect.

FYI, here is a video of Trump cutting regulations, saying he wants them to be lower than the 1960's. Think about all the new technology we've had since the 1960's (cellphones, implantable medical devices, etc etc.) . Regulations are bad until bad things happen.
