RectusAbdominis: I am sure. All the schools in the North (except UniIlorin I think) accept two sittings. There are many ways to screen out candidates, WAEC shouldn't be one of them. Anyone can write Waec and easily get A1 parallel, but people find it difficult to pass JAMB and Post UTME. Have you asked why? Because cheating is easier in waec and Neco. Please say what you're sure of. I'm a student of EBSU. They don't accept two sittings. Be guided. |

Thewhizzkid1: 1. Introduction My friend should not do so because the upper lip is included among the danger area of the face. A pimple pop there might cause an infection to spread via the facial vein to the brain. Anatomical Basis The danger area of the face is a triangular area in the centre of the face which is bounded externally by a line running from the angle of the mouth to the root of the nose. It is so called because in this area, the facial vein via the superior opthalmic veins, inferior ophthalmic veins and the pterygoid venous plexus communicates with the cavernous sinus and an infection in this area can get into the facial vein and then into the cavernous sinus. Pathological Basis An infection in the facial vein around the danger area of the face spreads to the cavernous sinus via venous communications. This causes inflammation of the cavernous sinus, a condition called cavernous sinus thrombophlebitis. This can lead to increased pressure in the cavernous sinus thus compressing brain structures and leading to brain damage. 2.a. Excess testosterone is converted to oestrogen which stimulates breast development. b. Absence of 5-alpha reductase. Thus no DHT to inhibit development of female external genitals. c. Androgens are insensitive thus wolfian duct cannot be differentiated. 3. Radial nerve Brachial artery Probably musculocutaneous nerve also Well, you really did well in No. 1 question but you didn't tell us the main route the infection gets to the cavernous sinus. the infection passes through the facial vein to the deep facial vein to the pterygoid plexus of vein to the emissary vein to the cavernous sinus. The rest of your explanation is perfect about the danger area of the face. Well done!! |

Vicjay1: For number 3 questions Alot of things actually happen at the midshaft of the humerus. So gunshot to the midshaft of humerus will affect 1. Median nerve and brachial artery because the Median nerve crosses the brachial artery anteromedially. 2. Radial nerve and Profunda brachial artery because they run in the spiral groove of the humerus at the midshaft 3. Brachialis and coracobrachialis have proximal and distal attachment respectively at the midshaft so their actions would be impelled. Etc. Satisfactory!! |

worthing: does the hamstring part of the adductor magnus satisfy the criteria to b grouped among the hamstring muscles
I don't tink so sir
boss thewhizkid I hail Anyway, I understand where you're heading to, different authors have different perspectives about the muscles. In fact, Keith Moore didn't even say anything on adductor magnus being a hamstring. Chauria emphasized that it's a part of the muscles...I do believe you've understood my point. |

Thewhizzkid1: List the basic features of the hamstring muscles. List the values of all lung volumes you know. What is d function of DNA ligase and topoisomerase in DNA replication? List three areas where portocaval anastomosis occur. Sorry all for the long hibernation of this thread. 1). The hamstring muscles include; semitendinosus, semimembranosus, the long head of biceps femoris and the ischial head of the adductor magnus. Basic features: they all arise from the iscial tuberosity. They get inserted into one of the bones of leg (either tibia or fibula). They are supplied by the division of the sciatic nerve (L5, S1). They are extensors of hip joint and flexor of knee joint. n/b: the true hamstrings are the first two. DNA ligase fill in those gaps created by okazaki fragments during replication of DNA. Three areas where Porto cava anastomosis occurs: at the level of the umbilicus, at the anal canal and the terminal end of the oesophagus... it also occurs at the bare area of the liver. I've forgotten the values of those lung volumes. Will check it. thanks for reviving this thread again... |

ebsuguy: The question is asking you to discuss the pathogenesis of polio viral infection and also the mechanism of formation of a specific immunity against a specific pathogen secondary to infection. 1.Musa was infected with the polio virus through the oral pharynx or respiratory tract. After viral replication in the oropharynx and small intestine(esp.within the lymphoid tissue),the virus spreads through the blood stream to the CNS.this it can also do by retrograde movement along the nerve axons. In the CNS,the virus preferentially replicate in the motor neuron located in the anterior horn of the spinal cord. This leads to the death of this cells which inturn leads to the paralysis of musa' muscles innervated by these neurons. 2.Abubakar was not paralysed because he received the salk(killed) or the sabin(life attenuated) vaccine which induced humoral antibodies production against the polio virus.During the epidemic, these antibodies neutralized the virus that entered the blood.hence, preventing them from causing CNS infection and disease. Thank you so much. Remain blessed! |

The same week within two years of birth, Abubakar had several antipolio virus vaccination but Musa's parents were afraid because of superstitious believe and did not present Musa for immunization. Before their third birthday, polio epidermic occurred in the village affecting all the children. Musa became paralysed while Abubakar was not.
