Car TalkRe: Radiator Fan Not Working by Ikenna351(m): 6:22pm On Oct 14, 2014
tsiriman,

Start the car, leave it to idle. Let the temperature gauge needle gets to 100 C. If it exceeds 100 C and fan refuses to spin without A/C, then you can start with relay or fuse that triggers on the fan with A/C off.

I dont know about Honda, but for some of Peugeot cooling systems, the fans start spinning when temperature gets to 100 C. But on most instrument cluster, the temperature gauges would remain at 90 C when fan starts spinning, even though the true temperature has exceeded 90 to 100 C. But on few instrument cluster, it would exceed the 90 C to 100 C before the fan kicks in. This design may be similar to yours.

Another good friend of mine was there too. He had shared the pics in the WhatsApp Lions families with us. The pics he sent to us were not just this Exalt, but the new 508, 308, 208, etc. Amazing cars! Though I didnt see the New RCZ R in the picture. I wonder why it didnt make the show?

@ikenna351,How could those living outside Abuja benefit from this
I think it will work this way. If you are interested, I will send you my Bank account details. Then pay in N1,500, then text me your office address or any address you can receive letters or parcels with. I will send you the DVD (1) through NIPOST, but it will be registered with tracking number. It takes about N500 to send a registered letter through Nipost. It may take like 5-10 days to get to you through Nipost, as long as the address is clearly stated and functional.

I have been using Nipost to ship or send parcels and stuffs to people, both internally and outside the country and they deliver. So, I think this the cheapest and easiest means of interested ones outside Abuja to get the DVD.Only that you will have to be patient with them.

But if you can't wait for those days it would take when sent through Nipost services, and you can afford private courier service, then add N1,500,( making it N2,500 if you want to buy 1 DVD) so that I can send the DVD through private courier company and you pick it up in their station where you stay, in 2 days time.

As you are about to climb Murtala Mohammed Bridge, along Lokoja - Abuja highway, you will hear a terrible grinding noise like twice, as if your transmission or wheel hubs just exploded. Don't stop. Keep going. The problem is with the road, not your vehicle.

You will likely hear the noise twice, especially those heading to Lokoja from Abuja, immediately you drive out of the bridge.

Ikenna
I am beginning to believe the source of that noise were my tyres. These were brand new tyres I bought last year. Have done some trips with the car since the tyre replacement, but it appears they have started becoming noisy on roughly tarred road. Abuja road can be deceptive sometimes, when it comes to knowing noisy tyres or not, untill drive outside town. Will stay away from that tyre brand.

Or did you experience it as well?

Car TalkRe: BRAKE FLUID REPLACEMENT may be RECOMMENDED PREVENTIVE MAINTENANCE for you! by Ikenna351(m):
Idara,

You are friend and I am going to tell this. I don't see why you should apologise when you are absolutely right and no one has proved you wrong. What matters is " what is right", and that's what you have said in this your thread. There is no one that says the truth and the world won't come after that person. Its left for the person to stand on his/her 2 feet to speak what is right or get himself intimidated by the world. In fact, Randy Gage once said, " You can't do anything meaningful without scaring some or offending others. In fact, if you are not facing criticisms or even attracting few haters, you can be sure you are not doing something right".

When a manufacturer instructs you replace your engine oil every 6 months, it doesn't mean the engine will knock on the 7th month, if you extend it beyond the recommended change interval. When a manufacturer recommends timing belt replacement every 60 or 80k km, it doesn't mean the belt must break on 90k mileage. The same way, when a car manufacturer recommends renewal of brake fluid every 2 years, it doesn't mean the brake will fail the 3rd year if not renewed. All the manufacturer is saying is, if you wish your engine and these systems to be trouble-free, do as they instructed or recommended. Like I said, its simple, "if you wished to". No manufacturer comes to your house to sue you for not renewing your engine oil every 6 months as instructed. But the manufacturer will not change that engine for you free during warranty period if the engine fail and if you had refused to keep to instruction.

The other day, someone ignored replacing his timing belt when it was due. On a highway, while overtaking a long truck, on single lane, the engine went off, halfway or in the middle of the truck. He couldn't brake to draw and move back behind the truck, because the brake pedal had become very hard to depress. The steering had become stiff. Right then, another truck was coming right in front of him, to smash him and the car to pieces. He had no choice than to swerve off the road on the other side of the road. Luckily, there was no pedestrian on the side road. He would have either killed himself or innocent pedestrians for choosing to do the wrong thing, "not replacing the belt when he ought to". It was when he towed the vehicle to town that they discovered it was the timing belt that broke while he was overtaken the truck. Like I said in my previous. Life is about choices. You can choose to endanger your life or innocent life, if you wished to, because Nairaland knows better than your car manufacturer.

The same way, you can choose not to renew your Power assisted steering fluid, synthetic or not synthetic, when asked by manufacturer to do so every certain years. But I bet you, time will come when the steering will become harder to steer, which may hinder the lifespan of the pump or damage the rack seals. Its your car, its your choice.

The summary, the least a manufacture will do is advice you to change this or do this on this car or system at every certain mileage or years, if you really want to enjoy the car and "if you wished to". Not everyone survives accidents to come and tell the world what could have caused it, what happened, was sudden brake failure the cause, etc.

Whether you keep to instructions on the manual or not is irrelevant to this topic, what matters here is, "What is right thing to do to your brake system, as recommended by your car manufacturer?". What one choose to do with the instructions on the manuals is ones personal business.

Hey! Idara. I met with our mutual friend yesterday and we spent a quality time. We are good.

Hi Ikenna,

I recently changed my front windshield and i've been having issues with automatic wiping. When the wiper is set to auto it only does a 5sec interval wiping no matter the amount of water poured on the screen.

The sensor was carefully removed when removing the old windshield and carefully placed on the new one. Attached are screenshots of the type of sensor my D9 uses and also a screenshot of the new windshield purchased.
Unluckily for me the rear windshield just broke to pieces on it's own. I have also replaced that but was unable to get a new one. The issue with this is that it did not come with the heater connector. Though, when removing the old rear windshield, i found out that the connector was glued to the screen.

Lastly, i noticed my top right engine mount (the one with double bushing) gets damaged so easily. I've had to change it twice in the past month.

Kindly advice me on the best way to resolve this issues.
Honestly, I have no idea what could be the cause of your lion issues you mentioned above. I wish I could be of help

Peugeot: Cars With Attitude!

A lot of People are scared to join the Lion's family due to horror stories they were told about Lions, especially the newer ones. A lot of previous and current Lion owners have suffered dearly in the hands of some Auto Mechanics and Electricians, for simply opening their bonnets for them cry. A lot of Lion owners have been killing their poor Lions, ignorantly, not knowing the abuse they met out on the poor Lions, which will lead to their sudden deaths. A lot of Nigerians have been missing out the joy & fun the Lion owners derive each time they sit behind their Lion's steering wheel, simply because Nay Sayers have prevented them from living a sweet good life, which a Lion gives you each time you sit in it. That's very unfortunate!

Now, the solution and answer is here:

https://i1366.photobucket.com/albums/r770/Ikenna4351/Mobile%20Uploads/WP_20141023_19_57_07_Pro_zps2f6b5a9c.jpg

I produced the DVD above to answer most questions no one has been able to give you which scares you aware from Lion's family. The DVD will educate you on series of abuse metted out on Peugeot cars, how not to abuse them and implications of the abuses. The DVD explains or teaches how one can carry out some basic troubleshooting, checks or repairs on Lions by the owners. Isn't that interesting?

The DVD will teach you what you need to do or checks you need to carry out before you purchase any used Lion, Tokunbo or Nigerian used. The DVD will teach you how to confirm factory driving position of any Lion before purchase, incase the Lion was converted from RHD - LHD. The DVD will teach you how to tell if a Lion you are interested to purchase originally had a V6 engine but converted to 4-cylinder engine or if the transmission was converted from auto to manual or manual to auto transmission, to be well informed about Lion you are interested to purchase, even before meeting with the seller.

In summary, the DVD will help you understand Lions better; it will help you know your Lion better. And most importantly, it will teach you how you can keep Lions on the road, longer than one would expect.

Aside Peugeot owners or those considering to switch to the Lion brand, other brand users will find some topics discussed in the DVD useful.

Price is N1,000

WhatsApp Lion's Community: Update.

WhatsApp limited maximum of 50 participants per a group. And the community have 50 members now.

Unfortunately, quite a number of Lion owners, interested to join, are really missing out, because WhatsApp wouldn't allow more than 50 participants and the community has been very lively.

Now, a friend, a Lion owner too, suggested I open another group in WhatsApp, Lion's Community 2. With the number of messages and calls i have received from Lion owners who wants to join, but haven't join yet, i believe the community 2 will soon fill up, and there will become a need for Lions community 3.

I will do my best to share information between the 2 houses, so that none will mis vital topic or discussions discussed in the other.

So am through with my first repair on my Lion and with the help of Ikenna it was a success, a big thanks to the Lion guru. So just to add to the body of knowledge generated in the house my 406 is an XU10 engine which the experts say is prone to crankshaft pulley problems especially when you have to drive through pool of water constantly signs to alert you to this problem are (1) a funny cranking noise from the tyre region sounds more like metal scrapping against a circular shell (2)Battery charge fault message flashing intermittently it appears constantly when you put on a/c (3) Staring down at the a/c condenser when the engine is on, where you see the fan belt it spins in a shaking manner ie it isn't aligned. Well thats what i can remember now.
Solution a simple pulley change and you are back to perfect, warning ignore that sound at your peril it will cost you a whole lot more. Total cost of repair 13k
Congrats!

sheikhfelix:
Hello @Ikenna351, I appreciate the job you are doing here. I've had a peugeot 406 for 14 years and it has served me so wonderfully until i recently moved from the north to yenagoa, bayelsa state. The first problem I noticed was a whistling sound from the back wheel area when i'm driving slowly, this was accompanied by more whistling when i apply the brakes. I should inform you that the road to my office is really bad and sometimes flooded so i pass through a lot of water ponds for almost 2KM while driving to work. I also noticed that the back passenger seat usually gets soaked with water when someone sits on it. My boot was also very wet and i guessed water was getting into the boot from somewhere and in the process getting under the seat and soaking it. Unfortunately my work schedule takes up all my time and i had not been able to get a peugeot mechanic in yenagoa to check it out in my absence. i realised there are not many peugeot cars here and thus a shortage of competent mechanics for my baby.

On one occasion, I was driving and suddenly all the electricals of the car went off. From the radio to the dials on the dashboard, everything went dead even though the car continued to move normally. They came back to life after a few minutes. Not long after the car felt like the brakes had clamped the wheels and the car wouldnt move anymore. The brake callipers were very hot at this time and the brake pedal was also very stiff. After parking the car for a day, it moved normally.

Next the car started showing ABS fault and braking failure. I continued using it for a while like that as i still had not found a competent mechanic to check it out. The brake started to hold the car again with the callipers very hot and pedals stiff. Also sometimes when i try to start the car, the electricals wont come on. Just the battery light illuminated on the dashboard, the car will kick but no start. I parked the car for another week until I finally got a mechanic who claimed to be a specialist and after my car spent 3 days at his workshop and so much money spent he delivered it.

Only two days later, the same problems persisted. The electricals are off sometimes when you want to start the car. It will kick and not start. The ABS failure and breaking failure is back. The brake callipers are very hot, brake pedal stiff and it seems the brakes are preventing the car from moving. This was saturday and I parked the car again.

Only this morning, i put the key in the ignition and it showed engine immobilizer fault. Its really frustrating as i'm not even sure these mechanics know what they are doing. I was happy when i came across this thread on nairaland and hope and pray you can help me in solving these problems. I read something about a whatsapp group, please add me 08060493322 for easier communication. Looking forward to your help.
What model of 406? D8 or D9?

If its D9, I would suspect the datawires, located under the drivers seat carpet. The water leaking into the car must have gotten to the front and clogged those datawires.

If you can, remove the rug/carpet under the seat. You will find about 4 connectors there. If corroded, clean off the moisture or rust & dry off the water there. If corroded badly, you will have to remove those connectors solder wires together. If cant do it, find a panel beater or electrician that can remove that rug for you, because its not an easy task to remove that rug or pull it aside.

Will post the datawires for you to see what it looks like. A scan will diagnose and confirm the culprit, but it has to be done with PP2000.

Check the datawire first and we will take from there.

Car TalkRe: Boosting Your Lovely Car To Extra Horse Power For Speed, Burnout And Donuts by Ikenna351(m): 8:04am On Oct 05, 2014
Ikenna351:
I am not surprised at most of the comments from some posters in this thread. Conformity. Doing or saying something because every other perwon is doing or saying it, without knowing why or what you are even saying. Because, as far as Car Talk is concerned, everyone must be right. Smh!

Sometime in 2012. I received a mail from a guy in USA. said I was referred to him by some group of people over there. He needed me to help him purchase some car parts to boost his Peugeot 505 V6 power American spec. He needed me to help him buy the injection ECU and ignition ECU of Some Euro spec 505 V6 tuned aggressively, unlike the American spec 505 V6 with less power. He lived in Europe before where he used 505 V6 with the aggressive power before he relocated to US. He got to US, bought another 505 V6, this time, an American spec, unfortunately with less power.

Most Euro spec 505 V6 have 170 hp, while all 505 V6 sold in USA & Canada had 145 hp. The same engine, ZN3J. The only difference is this. The injection ECU & ignition ECU in the 170 hp and 145 hp 505 V6 differ. The injection ECU of 170 hp part number is Bosch 0 280 001 507 (Jetronic), while the 145 hp is Bosch Bosch 0 280 001 506 (Jetronic). Then, the 170 hp ignition ECU part is Bosch 0 227 400 121, while the 145 hp is Bosch 0 227 400 120. Of course, mine have the 170 hp ECUs. Note the difference on the last 3 figures: 506 vs 507 and 120 vs 121. Aside the last 3 figures in each part numbers, the rest of the figures are the same.

Now, the guy sent me a link of where the discussion took place. He posted in a forum, that he didn't like how his 505 V6 he bought in US was underpowered, compared to one he owned when he lived in Europe. The forum members explain to him the reason, that the Euro spec had more power than the American spec. They also told him I once mentioned in that forum the difference in the injection and ignition ECU part numbers of the 170 & 145 hp ZN3J powered 505s. Some where of the opinion that ECUs would not be the reason for the higher hp in one than the other. Some believed there could be some differences in the cylinder heads, like the camshafts and the rest, so swapping ECUs would not increase any power, rather he should modify the engine mechanically to gain those extra hp. Well, he went ahead and contacted me off the forum, privately to help him source for the ECUs in mine in Nigeria. He sent me some money, I got him those 507 & 121 ECUs and sent to him.

He got the ECUs, swapped them and gave us feed back on the forum, because at that time, I have joined the discussion in that thread in the forum. According to him, the car, or rather, the engine became more responsive at every touch of the accelerator pedal. It became quicker and sharper in acceleration. He excitedly told us in the forum the development how happy he was for deciding to go ahead to try the 170 hp ECUs without modifying any other thing on the car. Though, he said with those 170 hp ECUs, the car would rough idle, but will rev smoothly and responsively when accelerated. But as soon as its on idle, it would start to rough idle. At that point, I told him, from the workshop manual, the ECUs with 170 hp, or rather, the 505 V6 with 170 hp don't run with Catalytic converters and/or oxygen sensors as factory designed. Unfortunately, his have the catalytic converter and oxygen sensor. Though, we advised him to check the fuel pressure and other stuffs, incase they are not good enough to supply what those aggressively designed ECUs needed.

To cut the story short, he told us he wouldn't mind those rough idling because the extra power gain was all he wanted and he got it. Probably what he gained was not not up to the 170 hp, but it was good enough for him. Last year, he sent me mail that he had to relocate to Europe again and had to sell the 505. Though I didn't ask if he sold the car with the 170 hp ECUs or with the factory 145 hp incase he would need the 170 hp ECUs again, because he said in the mail that he would search for another 505 V6 as soon as he gets back to Europe.

The summary, that something is impossible to you to attain does not make it standard that its impossible. If the guy had conformed to opinions of some forum members, he wouldn't have succeeded.

To the topic, I dont know about the 2 BMWs engines and their injection systems. So I can't tell if swapping the engine ECUs of both will make deference. Whether it gained up to the expected hp or not is secondary, because there was change in power. In this case, more power. Of course, if dyno tested, one would know how much it gained.

As for the wheel and Tyre sizes, well I really don't know. But I do know that Peugeot 505 V6 Euro spec with 170 hp have factory wheel size of 195/60 R15, while 505 V6 American spec with 145 hp have 205/55 R15 as standard, especially the 1989 model. If it has anything to do with the power, I wouldn't know.
