I don't own any of these 3 brands: Benz, BMW & Audi. Am not a fan of any, but i do like and respect them, and wouldn't mind to own one of the 3 (will come to that later). There could be other German cars, but these 3 are on the top list. They are not just cars, but rides. They are not just rides, but MACHINES! Though i dont know much about the 3, but if i was to compare Benz with BMW (Beemer), i would say Benz got the luxurious & looks, while BMW got the performance. But I could be wrong since i dont own or used any, though have driven one of the brands twice. So lets hear from those that know the 3 better or those have owned any of them, owned the 3 of them or currently own the 3 or one of the 3. Please, we are here to discuss only these 3 German brands. So lets not derail the topic. Floor is open. Ikenna.

My dream car while growing up was either Peugeot series II 505 GTI or V6. Even while still growing up, I would ask any Peugeot mechanic which would be better between the two. They would tell me to stay away from both and go for 505 with XN1 engine, which was in my dad's 504 GL i was using then. I ignored them, anyway. When i could afford using internet, i went online and started browsing on the GTI & V6: the reliability, durability and more importantly, the performance. While at it, i started to meet owners and previous owners of the two versions of the 505: GTI & V6. I asked and got all i needed to know about the 2 cars from them. When i had the resources to own a car in my name and make my dreams come true, i went for the stick 505 V6. Every moment i spent in the car since the day I bought her, she would always do what would make me thank God for making such a ride my dream car and making the dream a reality. Ikenna. |
Originalsly: I think shallow or low profile tires are designed for high speed driving on smooth roads. They do not allow much cushion and easily get punctured on hitting pot holes and result in rim damage on impact. If you want to install them for show be prepared to be frequently inconvenienced with flats and damaged rims.I disagree with you. Whenever am embarking on a journey or long distance driving, I would slot in my 2pac's MP3 and thats it. Sometimes i would slot in the Deathrow record jams of the '90s (sorry, i dont do Nigerian music). But my favourite is Pac. Love listening to his prophesies when am driving, especially for such long hours of driving. His lyrics keeps me active. Ever slept off? No. But have felt sleepy twice, along Abuja - Enugu expressway (but thanks to manual transmission). Manual tranny always keep all parts of my body active: two legs and both hands. Its ideal to park and take a nap before continuing on the journey if one is feeling sleepy, but only if you are in a safe zone. You cant just park anywhere, considereing how safe our highways are, in the middle of nowhere. In such situation, shifting the stick up and down, moving your two hands to steer the wheel and change the gears freqently, and calculating with the engine sound to know when to change the gear to a higher one, kind of keeps me active and before i know it, the sleepy feeling or fatigue would be gone. Or at least, it will help you get to a safe place where you can park and sleep as long as you want. I know some of you would blame one for not sleeping enough the previous night before starting a journey. But there are situations you may find yourself sleeping late and you still need to make that journey the next morning. Those that do frequent long distance driving would understand. Even when you work tirelessly the previous day and went to bed early, you will still experience fatigue few hours into the journey the next day. If you are the type that love cool musics, make sure you take those cds far away from the drivers seat. Dont even think of playing any. Because that cool music you love could land you in mortuary. I remembered in one of my drive from Abuja to Enugu, someone joined me in that journey. Shortly after Ajaokuta, he said he didnt like the music i was playing that he wanted to listen to something else. He put in my lucky Dube that i play only when driving in the city. Few mins later, sleep came from nowhere. By the time i looked at him to tell him to remove the lucky Dube, he had dozed off. I quickly removed and threw the cd at the back seat and put back what i was listening to before. Since that day, i made up my mind, as long as am the one on the steering wheel, i decide the music to be played. Hate me if you like. My car, my rules. I wont again put my life in danger just to impress a Passenger, no matter how close or how much i care about the person or the passenger. One more thing, if you are driving on a highway and your passenger in front seat starts sleeping, even if the passenger is your wife, ask her to move to the rear seats. Its better you guys fight when you get to your destination over that, than both of you ending up in a Hospital or Mortuary. Its your call. Ikenna. |
ARES: bro if your car is a front wheel drive and has gotten over 100k miles, then your problem is most likely the inner cup of the drive shaft, if they remove the shaft, feel it with your hand and check if it is wornThere is nothing on FWD car drive shaft called inner cup, rather CV joint (Constant Velocity Joint). Costee: Tried again, no dice. Rather embarrassing. And again, I don't receive notices of threads I subscribe on this board.Sorry, it happens to everyone. Its been addressed, though. Moderator. |
tundysho: Is it not possible to just go to cotounou my self, pick a car of my choice, pay all theI have been thinking the same thing. Ikenna |
yungboss: i'm not sure of what i said bro, it was just a guess! Is the peugeot a diesel?Yep. Ikenna. |
Don't allow that mechanic destroy your car with trial & error. Bring the car for scanning, to detect the culprit(s) to the car issues, faster & safer. Call or mail me. Ikenna. |
yungboss: it must be nothing but a kia picanto, 1.1 litre engine plus about 89hp+Are you sure Kia Picanto is the best fuel economy car? What about Peugeot 508 Hybrid4, 2.0 litre engine, that average 74 mpg on highway and 61 mpg (3.80 L/100 km) in the city with more power? Ikenna |
You are not suppose to sell the car with the new number plate. The new number plate is registered permanently with your driver's licence in your name. Remove it and sell the car without number plate. The new number plate is like your driver's licence. Do you sell your driver's licence when selling your car? Of course not. Whoever buys the car will have to buy a new number plate and register the plate in his name or he use already registered new number plate in his name, if he has one. The interested buyer buying the car with the new number plate makes the plate invalid. He cant renew or change the ownership of the car with that number plate. He will have to throw it away and buy another. If he continues to use the one he bought the car with, if the car is involve in a robbery at any time, it is you that will be arrested as a suspect, since its your name, picture and other personal data that pop up in their system, not the new owner. Also, he cant do change of ownership with that plate since its not his. Ikenna. |
Costee: Mod, I tried uploading a picture, but it didn't appear on the post. Size of pic is 168kb.It happens sometimes. Resize it and give it another trial. Moderator. |
If you reside in Abuja, you can now bring your vehicle for scanning, at very cheap price. Call me: 08052811236 E-mail: ikenna351@gmail.com Location: Area 1, Garki. Ikenna. |
Oh! I forgot to add. With RWD, you can swing the car tail several times, as long as you know how to play with your throttle pedal. But with FWD, my hand no dey there o! Ikenna |
abdulkadir: RWDs are fun to drive and stunt on. Ikenna ur experience remind me when i used to roll in 504 gl d doughnots, tail flippin and all dat. Dats one worry i hav with d 406.Thats a big advantage RWD has over FWD car. Its very predictable when you find yourself in an understeer situation. You can always control the situation and bring it back to the normal position with throttle, unlike the FWD that will take you right into the bush. Sorry about your D8. Ikenna. |
redcliff: Oh so they are totally two distinct items? wow!It depends on your car wiring system, Temperature switch can also control or trigger on the radiator electric fan(s). While some cars use the CTS as the radiator fans trigger instead. Like i said, it depends on the factory wiring of the car in question. Ikenna. |
kadbus: I wrote to inform that my engine is a D8Lol! @ D8. D8 is the pre- facelifted 406 ('95 - '98 model), while D9 is the facelifted 406 ('99 - 2004 model). I think you need to go back and start reading from the 1st page of this thread. If you had done that, you would have learnt this before now and so much more. D8 comes with various XU series petrol I4 engines. XU10 is the most common one in them. We have XU 7 and others too, which are less than 2.0 L. Some D9 petrol I4 also have XU10, but more of EW series. Can you take and attach here the picture of your engine bay? Ikenna. |
redcliff: I noticed my vehicle consumed fuel m than normal and I took it to Iyana-Itire, the home of VW and Audi cars in Lagos i guess. The guy there told me its my CTS (coolant temperature sensor) but over there its called temperature switch. After he changed it and all, well to the best of my knowledge at the point from when i left there to when i got home, i just did a test on it and found that the consumption was quite low and the next day when i took it to work i discovered the temperature needle moved rapidly above 90 and was about going to 110 if i continued in traffic, something it hasnt done before even in the worst of holdups. short and long of it is that i personally took the new temp switch off and put min eback and found that the problem stopped but fuel consumption is still quite high. Any thoughts on that?We have temperature switch and CTS. Temperature switch controls the temperature guage on the instrument cluster, while CTS determines the fuel consumption when engine is cold and hot. So, i think you and your mechanic are mixing things up. Ikenna. |
kadbus: Yes cooling system thermostat was removed, i use water, i did not change my tyres to non factory size and its showing check engine light while engine is runningIn that case, you have a lot issues to deal with. First, run a scan, since you are having check engine light on the instrument cluster. Then, get a new thermostat of that your and put it back. Flush out that water via the cooling system flush plug on the engine block and refill with coolant. I dont know about your engine, but i use only TOTAL coolant which is green in colour. Its already premixed, so dont mix it with water. Ikenna. |
kadbus: No it does not emit black smoke from the back, also i am not in Abuja. I am in LagosDid you remove the cooling system thermostat? Does the radiator fan spin constantly? Do you use coolant or water in the cooling system? Did you change your tyres to non factory size? By the way, is it D8 or D9? Is it showing check engine light while engine is running? If its D9, does it show Anti-pollution warning light on the multi- function display screen? Ikenna. |
@ Kadbus, I forgot to ask. Does it emit black smoke from the exhaust pipe? I just want to know how bad is the rich running, incase what the car is suffering from is an abuse. Ikenna. |
kadbus: hello house,Lol! Don't get frustrated. We are here to help. Tell that clown not to touch that ECU. You Lion is simply suffering an injection issue. It has nothing to do with the engine ECU. The ECU works with signals it receives from various EFI sensors or components. Every command it sends to the injectors is dependent on what it receives from those sensors. So the culprit is not the ECU, but with the EFI sensors or components. A lot of EFI components, when faulty, will give you this nightmare you are going through. Lol! Don't mind me! It could the a clogged supply and return fuel line, failed FPR (Fuel Pressure Regulator), MAP (Manifold Absolute Pressure sensor), o2 (Oxygen sensor), Coolant Temperature Sensor (CTS), IAT (Intake Air Temperature sensor),leaky vacuum lines, dirty air filter, failing fuel pump, etc. Some claimed bad Catalytic converter would cause excessive fueling. But I do not know, because my lion runs without it perfectly well. But I do know that if I become a 406 owner tomorrow and the Caty fails, I wont hesitate to remove it, without bothering to replace it with another. That's me anyway. Also, some claimed that EGR Valve( Exhaust Gas Recirculation valve) would give you such issues as well when they fail. But I have read so many posts on other Peugeot forums on how they disconnected the EGR valve on their newer Peugeots and have been running fine, better than when the EGR valves where connected. So, in this case, I wont know since I haven't tried it. I would manually troubleshoot and fix it, if it was my car. But since you are not DIY fellow yet, I would advice you scan it, to know which of the sensor(s) causing this issue with the car. Do you stay in Abuja? If you do, you can bring it to my house, so that I can scan it for you with Diagbox. Ikenna. |
But lets not forget that using the DRL will cost you your car fuel economy. Running headlights when engine is running (daytime or nighttime) will consume more fuel, though not much. Switching headlights on will place load on the Alternator which will cause a drag on the Alternator, and this will make the engine to need and add more power to drive the dragging Alternator pulley, thereby requiring more fuel for the added power using to drive the Alternator. The more electrical gadgets you put on while engine is running, the more fuel the engine consumes. But as for the DRL, the consumption shouldn't be much, I think. Ikenna. |
It can actually be disconnected. They do have relay that powers them. Removing the relay would switch them off, I believe. It depends on the car, but I do know that some imported Peugeot 406 D9 come with factory Daytime running light. It has a switch for it. That is, you can put it on or off. But i would leave leave it on jare, if my car get am. Ever seen a facelifted 406 with the factory DRL? Its not just the headlights, but their fog lights as well would be on, bringing out the Pininfarina's beauty. Sometimes, i would stop to admire, when i see a D9 passing with those lights on. The thing make sense no be small. My next car must have it o! ![]() Ikenna. |
yungboss: not anymore again, just like you do sometimes, i do it too especially when hitting corners...its interesting i must say. sorry to digress, what about your other lion? You hardly talk about it these days...Sold and now with a new owner. But another powerful lion is coming in soon, to join The King of the Lions. ![]() Ikenna |
yungboss: wow. I haven't tried it before...my car is auto, though the other is manual. But i have made a little tire smoking drift around a countinous circle- a roundabout to be precise- on a rainy night. midnite. Drove out, with a cousin of mine (he did a video on his phone, but i dont have it anymore). It was nothing more than simply accelerating and going round a circle much faster than normal speed, going about over 1080 degrees (3 x 360+ deg) on the wet surface (it made it easier), a little bit of combined oversteer and counter-steer. Was so loud and noisythat i had to stop cos i was on a security conscious zone. It was interesting, heart beats faster lol. but it wears the tires that's why i do not do it so hard...Mine was on field, untarred. Just raising dust. But that was long time ago. Now, I apply small stunts on the road sometimes while driving, when in the mood. But not in that aggressive manner anymore. Just to put smile on my face sometimes when I cant help it. Lol! Its not fault, when am pulling a stick RWD V6, which will be beckoning on me to put it in action, which she came for and love to do. Ikenna. |
thnx man. So I guess it all depends where the engine is placed?
Not all RWD cars have their engines in the front. Porsche 911 & VW Beetle were RWD, with their engines mounted at the rear end. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Rear-wheel_drive#Rear_wheel_drive_layouts Ikenna. |
Hey yall! Pls what's the difference between the RWD and the FWD? Wht are they? Pls clarify? Thnx..
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Rear-wheel_drive#Rear_wheel_drive_layouts Ikenna. |
yungboss: unless the common handbrake turnThere is no fun in that type. I was referring to the type you play with the pedals only. Youngboss, have you ever in a RWD car, when its stationary, turn the car front to face back the road it was backing before, without the 2 front tyres moving an inch? The very first day i did it, it was unintentional. I was in an open field, the engine was running, i wanted to move and turn the car quickly (to catch some fun). As i was gradually turning the steering wheel, i released the clutch and floored the throttle pedal. The car tail just pushed outward from the right until i saw myself facing the other side (opposite direction), without the front tyres moving . I didnt touch the brake pedal, nothing. The experience was so exciting that i did it over and over again. Since then, i never looked back. Since then, i started trying out other stunts. That was when i realized the goodies RWD offers, other than just driving, which i never explored before then. Ikenna. |
ALL I KNOW IS THAT, YOU CAN STILL DO COOL STUNTS WITH FRONT WHEEL DRIVES. (IF YOU ARE A GOOD DRIVER)..
What about donut or drifting? Can a FWD car drift as good as RWD cars? Can FWD car even drift at all? Not all stunts can be done with FWD, you know, especially one of the best stunts: drifting/donut. Ikenna. |
