Echika China: Thank you bro.... but I was warned not to near manual transmission. I love Honda more, but guess the majority of advice is toyota. thanks
What an irony! I wonder who is that clown that warned you not to near manual transmission. Shouldnt the reverse be the case, if he/she truly wanted to be honest with you?

abdulkadir: oh! So i thot. Sorry for misunderstandin you. Ikenna sometyms ago changed his but dont know whch brand a frend of his in d US recomended nd got it for him. He could help.
even tho d guy na LION!
I ordered for my ZN3J Thermostat from RockAuto via a friend in US, in December last year. The brand is Beck/Arnley. The part no. is 1430602. A quality thermostat, with heavy duty stainless steel spring. Also, it has Brass and copper power element, for quick response and long life. The price was $20.89

My friend shipped it via NIPOST. Unfortunately, NIPOST staffs entered strike before the item could get to Lagos. I had no option than to look for one here. I figured that since the failed factory one was Bosch, i could find it Benz shop, since Benz and Peugeot use Bosch products/components for their cars. The first Benz shop i entered at Gudu market, i saw it there. The brand i saw was Wahler. Unfortunately, the opening temp was too low to the factory. Stock one had 79 degree, while the Wahler had 71 degree. Well, i needed thermostat badly, so i bought it, since i was still waiting for one i ordered from US. The price of the Wahler was 1k. Very cheap!

The one i ordered from US arrived later in early February when they have called of the strike. It got 82 degree on it as the opening temp, which is even better than the factory. I quickly swapped it in and since then have noticed great improvement from the Wahler one. The temp guage now rises faster to 90 C, the middle of the guage, unlike the Wahler with 71 degree that was taken it eternity.

I plan to look for another Wahler themostart with 80+ degree, to keep as a spare.

I also want to use this opporunity to tell all Benz owners, check Peugeot shops as well when searching for Benz parts in Benz shops and you are not seeing them their. Because Peugeot and Benz use Bosch parts in all their cars. It may even be cheaper in Peugeot shops.

Three days ago, 14/03/2013, I got my Baby's long awaited New number plates, requested since January this year, 2013. Guess the number on it? 505!

I guess I may be the only person in Nigeria that drives a 505 with number plate "505". tongue

So, if you stay in Abuja and an aggressive looking 505 overtakes you on any Abuja Expressway with "505" on the Number plate, you now know who that would be. cool

talktimi: I use edmunds.com for majority of my car reviews and concentrate mainly on the reviews made by consumers because they are the ones who use the cars for an extended period but I needed inputs from Nigerian users that's why I earlier asked on this thread for anyone who had an idea of the c43's availability in Nigeria and its ease of maintenance. I'm a sucker for powerful cars and that is why I don't rate my pilot highly at all since its too sluggish for my liking its good someone as enlightened as trac is online here because I could have gone ahead to ship the car in if not available in Nigeria but as it stands, I'll get a variant easier to maintain within c200 & 220 then work on enhancements. That's the good thing about benzos, they're enhancement friendly.
I would go for c280 instead. The car is highly powered and got a good review. Find users review in carsurvey:

http://www.carsurvey.org/reviews/mercedes-benz/c-class/

To me, the c200 & c220 will be too underpowered for my liking. Even reviews from users in carsurvey stated so. I see a lot of c280 here on Abuja roads. If repairing them is that difficult, i wouldnt be seeing them that much on the road.

Ok. Thanks.

I first calculated it in mpg. I think i made the mistake while converting the mpg to L/100km.

PoliticsRe: Let's Have Your Complaints, Suggestions & Enquiries Here by Ikenna351(m):
Afam4eva: We're talking about Ibo being derogatory and i'm saying that there are people that may find using Chichi instead of the proper name as derogatory. Same goes for Enugu, Ibusa and Omanbala that i mentioned. This is not about shortening it. I really have no problem in allowing that whoever uses Igbo be banned but the problem is that the rule will not only apply to Ibo but will apply to other terms that can be described as derogatory as well.
We are looking for a way of eliminating tribal fight here, but you are not making it easy. You are simply twisting issues.

If Chinyere doesnt like to be addressed as chichi, that should be respected. After all, Chinyere is the name given to her from birth by her parents. Likewise, a nation, an entity, a tribe known as Igbo was existing before the coming of the whites. The whites came and couldnt pronounce and spell Igbo. They called the entity Ibo. They left, leaving their products of western education in the seat of govt, who still had colonial mentality. As decades past, people started to realise they were still suffering from mental colonization and decided to be who they are, and not what someone wants them to be. Hence, Igbos stopped answering English names in formal settings and documents. Even some already answering English names started to write their English names as its pronounced in Igbo. My VC back then in UNIZIK was writing his name as Pita, not Peter.

There was never a time in my life while i was growing up in the East when any Igbo addressed himself or a fellow Igbo as an Ibo. Even in my Primary and sec sch, we were never taught to write Ibo, even though Ibo was written some of the text books in those decades.

If no one could go to a gathering in any of the the Eastern states and addressed people the Igbos as Ibos, why then should one, in his right senses, now write Ibo, when he could verbally pronounce it as Igbo? Isnt that an insult?

The Rwanda genocide didnt just happen like that. Things like this is what could lead to it. This section has become a ground where tribal hate is growing everyday. Either you stop it or encourage it and see where it leads to. Those calling the Igbos "Ibos" know what they are doing. So spare me that crap "Ibo is not derogatory". It may not be outside Nairaland, but it is here. Thats what Nairaland has degenerated into.

No matter how you want to see it, politics section has become a ground for Nigerians to gather and insults each other tribes.
I dont care what Achebe calls himself. What matters is what is right. And the question to you Afam is " Are you an Ibo or an Igbo?

PoliticsRe: Let's Have Your Complaints, Suggestions & Enquiries Here by Ikenna351(m): 12:07am On Mar 14, 2013
Afam4eva: One thing is certain. The correct spelling and pronunciation is Igbo and not Ibo. But that doesn't make Ibo derogatory. It's unfortunate that some Igbos and other Nigerians have adopted the white man's way of calling the Igbos. Even Achebe, Azikiwe and other prominent Igbos have always used the term Ibo. That doesn't make it right and that doesn't also make it derogatory. OAM4J was actually ready to start banning people for using Ibo instead of Igbo but i explained to him that it will set a bad precedence if we do because we also have to start banning people for typing Enugu instead of Enugwu, Ibusa instead of Igbo-uzor and Anambra instead of Omanbala. We may even need to start banning people for typing Chichi instead of Chinyere, Chioma etc. It will also not be ideal to ban someone who has known it as Ibo all his life and comes to Nairaland and be banned without knowing that it's wrong to type Ibo. My Igbo brothers, i think this is one fight we have to let slide. I'm Igbo but i don't find it derogatory to be called Ibo because Ibo along with Ibo are been used in official and even cultural documents. What we have to strive to do is to educate people on the right way to refer to Igbos and not punish people for doing what they never thought was wrong.
What does chichi got to do with Ibo? If you are saying Ibo is a short form of saying Igbo, then allow Igbos to give any short name to Yoruba. If that is the case, dont ban anyone that call yorubas "Y.bas".

How do mean that Achebe, Zik and other prominent Igbos "always" use the word Ibo? Stop saying that, its very annoying.

OAM4J: I have no power to disclose the details of the memo, but there are Igbo moderators on this forum who are aware of it. Thanks.
OAM4J: After my plead on this thread that Igbo should be used instead of Ibo, We (moderators) got a memo from one of your executives that there is nothing derogatory with the use of Ibo. Nairaland will not want to be seen as the one demonizing/derogating an acceptable name among many Igbos. We were told that there are prominent Igbo sons and daughters who refer to themselves as Ibo.

If all Igbo on Nairaland think the use of Ibo is derogatory, I will advice that your representatives meet and write the Admin and give him the reasons why Ibo is unacceptable. For now Afam and I have no reason/power to delete posts with the use of Ibo or ban someone for using Ibo instead of Igbo.

Thank you.
This is serious!

I am a moderator in this forum and an Igbo too. I spoke against anyone addressing Igbos as Ibos in the moderators section. As far as am concerned, its very wrong and derogatory. I dont care any Igbo that sees himself as Ibo. What matters is what is right. A whiteman doesnt define who i am, simply because he coudnt spell or pronounce the word Igbo. Will continue to fight against it in the mod section.

I dont post or comment in Politcs section. But i couldnt keep quiet over this.

But if you make the mistake to enter the section i moderate, Car Talk, and address anyone as Ibo or Yoruba, i will ban you. Doubt me? Try me!

Car TalkRe: Peugeot: Cars With Attitude! by Ikenna351(op):
we we: I bought my peugeot 406 January this year, last month I decided to change Engine Oil though the engine oil still look very clean but I noticed something, there was a display like SPANNER on the dash board very close to Odometer. As soon as I changed the Oil the spanner disappeared. I also obeserved a number counting down from 20,000miles when I switch on the ignition just before I start the car. The 19,200 miles as I write.
My question is what is the meaning of the number? please House educate me.
Thank you
Thats a countdown for when your engine will blow up as soon as it gets to 00,000. Just kidding!

Peugeot calls it "Service indicator". I think its a countdown for the next engine service. According to owners manual of all phase II 406 petrol engines (including the V6), service should be done every 20,000 miles/30,000km or every 2 years.

Check your owners manual, its there.

we we: No be small thing... a lot of things went thru my mind within a split of second. ...... I wanted to stop it by holding it, but it was too powerful I couldnt stop it, so in order not to be knocked down be unmanned AUTOHANDIC car, I had to ran for my dear life... grin grin
I have experienced a similar thing o!

A collegue of mine Lexus auto tranny was having an ignition switch issue. So i told him i could start it for him via the engine bay. I got a flex wire somewhere and asked him to switch on the ignition. Immediately i bent down to bypass the starter solenoid wire to the terminal battery head (+), i didnt see the engine again, instead, i was looking at my shoes. Lol! I looked up and saw the car i just started racing away in reverse. Didnt understand what was going on. By the time the guy could brake and stop the car, it was meters away ftom him.

The guy jumped out and was shivering. I went close to the car to find out what happened. Instead, he was asking me "Ikenna, what happened?", as if i knew. It was when i looked inside the car that i saw that the gear lever was in "R". Meaning, he mistakenly shifted the gear to reverse, thinking he shifted it to Neutral. So when i now started the car from the engine bay, the car picked race going backward, leaving me there staring at my shoes, instead of the engine bay. I wonder what would have happened if a car was behind the Lexus.

Few weeks later, the transmission failed, which i was expecting. Such thing would kill auto transmission instantly, if care is not taken. But he was lucky it lasted him 2 weeks or so. This tells us how rugged auto trans could be!

we we: Bought my first car Honda Civic Hatchback 1993 model in 2010 at the age of 28 for 460k... but prior to this time in 2008, the small company I worked for then in Lagos gave me a Nissan Sunny Hatchback, (don't know the year). That car na die grin to start the car; I will switch on the ignition, open the bonnet, then start it by touching the positive head of battery with a SPECIAL WIRE.. lol. One day I forgot to put the gear to neutral, it wasn't funny, by the time I place my special wire on the battery, the car jerked forward, before I knew was happening, the car was giving me a serious chase .... lol. if not for the some people that helped to stop the car I don't know what would have happened...

My Honda Civic Hatchback served me for 3yrs, sold it this January and I bought my current car PEUGEOT 406 2002 model.....
Didnt know you could be this funny. Lol! @ car chasing you.

Seriuosly?

Please, stay away from driver's seat, so that you dont send people to their early graves. Driving is not some romance you want the males to sweet-tongue you into. If you are this scared and not sure of yourself, dont bother touching any car key. Never associate driving with romance, because its a matter of life and death.

When you are ready to learn how to drive, find a driving school for that. Everything is not romance, you know. Women! Smh!

And please dont tell us you are male, because that will be so weird.

Well, none of the cars i have used had Lagretor. And my current car dont have one either.

Lets assume you meant "Radiator", lets wait for our chemical engineers to enlighten us on the effect of Sugar in a car cooling system. But if i were you, i would quickly go and drain that fluid from the system, pending when we hear from them, that is, if the harm has not already been done. Because if they prove your clown wrong, do you know what that would mean? A replacement engine or rebuild soon.

As for me, i dont care how good Sugar will be in a car cooling system, if there is. No sugar will see my engine bay. Sugar is not in my car dictionary. And am not planning to re-write the car dictionary.

abdulkadir: i Will assume i didn't see your earlier post and Ikenna's response so my response will be based on d assumption that this issue is unrelated with the previous ones cos alot does not add up as ikenna rightly said.
so i would be looking at a failing fuel pump. Its common with D8 & D9.
does your car feel heavy when you try to increase acceleration when you change gears?
@ abdulkadir,

From the first post, one could suspect the Oxygen sensor, since the problem started after he drove through flood. That must have damaged the 02, hence, the catalytic and anti-pollution fault warning. But like you have pointed out, the fuel pump shouldn't be ruled out. But what if the supply or return fuel line is clogged or damaged when he was in the flood and it then started reducing the fuel pressure? I think he really need to check the fuel pressure of that car.

@Samoy,

Do you mean to say the car Hesitates or Jerks? Does the car hesitate when accelerating from a standstill? Does the car emit black smoke from the exhaust when accelerated hard or under heavy acceleration? Do you know how to test the o2 sensor with Digital Multimeter?

Unplug the o2 sensor, start the car and drive and see if there is any change. I wouldn't worry about the catalytic converter now until you are sure the o2 sensor is not the culprit.

Before you check the fuel pump, first go under the car (if that's where the 2 fuel lines pass to the rear: fuel tank) and check the condition of the 2 fuel lines.

plendil: Form the responses so far, RWD appear o be better. Its therefore surprising why more car manufacturers go for FWD?? Is there something they're not telling us?

Asian cars your Toyotas, Hondas, Nissan, Hydunadi, kia, etc are almost 90% FWD. Some European cars eg golf, Peuogut are also FWD.

why??
Because its cheaper to design and produce FWD. So, every manufacturer is trying to cut down cost of production.

Why do you think Benz and BMW still cost high? Its one of the reasons.
