Ikenna351, WADR, I don't think the OP intended to be rude or to seek only Sienna's opinion. He asked a question, and has received conflicting opinion's based on preference. He recognizes that there are certain experts in the house, and wants their expert best practice opinion. Others, such as myself, are probably thinking the same thing. I genuinely would like to know the answer to this question, and an answer from a known expert would bring closure for me!
@ info@lpf & tkovie2002,

No matter how you guys have tried to justify it, its still very wrong. And @ info@lpf, saying "an answer from a known expert would bring closure for me", still goes back to what i earlier said "Send your preferred expert a PM" and save other experts from wasting their time and knowledge in trying to help.

Two experts have already commented or made their suggestions. Some other person had also quoted his owners manual position on the topic. Is he now calling Siena to come and tell him that he should disregard what that owners manual position or for Siena to confirm to him what other 2 experts have said is correct or wrong before he could believe them or not? Sometimes, we make it sound as if everyone doesnt see a newly created topic. But we all choose to click on the topic, comment or not comment. I choose not to comment on the topic when it was first started, because i wasnt sure i knew the right answer to give. Likewise, another person that visits this section frequently must have seen it and past. Some would view and leave. This topic has 306 views, yet it has only 14 posts.

I usually modify such posts, naming experts for solutions. State your car issue or your questions and leave the floor open for anyone that knows something to make his or her suggestion. If you state my name, you are simply telling others "dont bother".

There are so many things i have learnt in Peugeot thread. Over there, there is nothing like an expert. We all share ideas on what we know about our lions or info that will help us in keeping our lions on the road and in good conditions.

One thing i like about the 508 sedan is the tail light: the Lion claws mark. They did a good job there.

Emperoh: I still don't understand why Peugeot isn't interested in the North American market
Peugeot was in North American Market (US & Canada) but left in early '90s.

In the late '80s, the US govt had an issue with Peugeot over the the late 505 (Series II) & 405, which were the new Peugeots in the market then. The Govt complained that both cars had no Airbag. Because of that, they were declared unsafe to the public. The sale took a downward turn. Very few people had the courage to buy the newly introduced 405, while those that have used the early 505 (series I) that knew that even without airbag, the car was still safe enough, went on to purchase the newly facelifted 505 introduced in the market with 405. But then, the sales were declining, such that Peugeot didnt bother to introduce into the North American market the newly produced 605 in 1989 (still without airbag), since the market was no longer favouring them. Finally, they packed and left in 1993 or so.

406 was produced and introduced in European market in 1995, which happened to be their first product with airbag. But the rate at which the 406 was selling in Europe made them lost interest of going back to North American market. Europe accepted Peugeot cars well, even when they had no airbags. So, they chose to remain in the moving markets: Europe, Asia, Middle East & Africa.

Meanwhile, while Peugeot was out of North America, Japanese took over the North American auto market in the early '90s. So re-entering the market maynot work out well for them, since they have already lost the market to Japs.

Thats what I gathered.

Please guys, i think its ok for us to be updating or sharing with the house how we eventually sort out issues with our Lions, so that others can learn from there. Thats how we learn how to deal with issues as they come up, from others experiences and how they resolve them.

For example, check this out:

http://www.505turbo.com/forum/index.php?/topic/2021-v6-problems/page-4

The guy came back to the house to update everyone that the issue has been fixed and what the culprit was. Now, any house member that owns such Lion model will know where to start the troubleshooting, incase he/she has similar issue in future.

kadbus: No it does not emit black smoke from the back, also i am not in Abuja. I am in Lagos. i noticed that my engine speed indicator(rpm) was on 2 instead of 1 or 0.

I hope that is not the cause of excess fuel consumption.
I read your post again and noticed something i didnt see before.

You said about your tachometer. Do you mean your tachometer needle rest at 2000 rpm while engine is idling? Or that when the engine is off, the needle rest at 2000 rpm and doesnt drop below that? Or do you mean the engine doesnt rev beyond 2000 rpm?

Can you point out any of the 3 above as what you meant? Or has the car issues sorted out?

Kingsley adima: Hi ikenna,
Tanx 4 ur good work here.
I have a 406 with XU10 engine. I did my oil change recently with total quartz 7000. My mechanic is now insisting dat I should not have used de 7000, dat its too light/thin for my engine. He is saying I should use quartz 5000 instead sinsce its ticker. I don't understand his point since I have read de post u did about de types of oil.
Der was a day I started my car and it made a strange noise in de top section of de engine for about 3minutes immediatly after starting $ dat was de only day it made dat noise. He was der when dat happened and said its because I used de wrong oil(quartz 7000) and I should change to 5000.
What do u advise? De car has a mileage of over 200,000km but de engine is still very sound. He said if I travel with it $ de engine gets hot de oil won't withstand de heat since its light/thin.
Pls wats de right oil or thing to be done in dis case??
Thanks
Any update?

Are you getting that noise after a cold start or first start every morning? Has it been sorted?

Muoweta: Ikenna: thanks I got ur explantion, the car actually lacks a tachometer. As regards checking d oil pump viability I'l give that a shot. I really apprecite ur response
You have not updated us on the oil warning light issue. Has it been resolved?

If not, i hope you use the correct and original Puflux oil filter during your last oil change? Because, if not, it will reduce the oil flow/pressure.

But if all the test check out ok, you may have to replace the oil pump. Replacing the XN1 oil pump is an easy job.

We are still expecting your update.
thanx again. well, I wouldn't know what coolant is inside the car.I just bought the car actually,a tokunbo.I've not seen it, will be taking delivery of it sometime next week.I got all the info I am giving from my brother.I asked the mech that serviced it,and he said the thermostat was still intact.
What would you advice? Do you think I should change d coolant and thermostat?
No, dont.

You are not your brother. Get the car first, drive and observe. Whatever your finding is, you can take it from there.

All that i have explained so far is how Peugeot cooling systems work. So, unless Honda cooling system works differently, you may have to google your car optimal engine temperature to be sure. Yours could be normal, but all Peugeot temperature guage needles rest at the middle of the guage as normal engine optimal temp, irrespective of the engine. The middle of all Peugeot car temp guages are stamped 90 C. So you need to be sure.
Thanx for your response.I have idled for up to 20mins and didn't see the fan come on.it came on only after I switched on the AC.I wouldn't know if it comes on when the car is on motion.
It has a thermostat.
There is a simple way of knowing if the cooling system still have the thermostat or not, without opening the thermostat housing. I have explained that severally in various posts. See if you can find it in similar posts like yours, treated in the past.

Since the car doesnt overheat, even in traffic jams, then the fan works well. You must not hear the sound of the fan when it starts spinning while in hold up.

But, if the fan doesnt start spinning after 20 mins of engine idling, then only God knows what you put inside the cooling system in the name of fluid. Are you running only water in the system or did you add a coolant you werent sure of? I have once used a terrible coolant which would take the temperature guage more than 30 mins to rise to 70% celcius. It would take it more than 1 hour to rise to the middle. But as soon as i flushed the nonsense out and refilled with a correct one, my nightmares stopped.
