@Allta
It's good that you hope to be like Jesus in the future, not like someone you barely know.
I posted something on Luke 7v33,34. Hope you read it? The passage says John came neither eating bread. Does He literally mean that John lived without food? What sort of wine was Jesus drinking i.e what was the alcoholic content, any idea? Was Jesus a winebiber and gluttonous as a matter of 'biblical fact'? These are questions we should consider well in our working, so as not to arrive in what is called WURUWURU to the answer

I want to chip in this point that God has made everything good. Whether it is gold, sand, trees, water, fire, uranium, or crude oil. It is man that has sought out many inventions and abused, instead of putting to right/lawful use. And sin is the transgression of the law.
The premise that God created alcohol therefore it is good for consumption is flawed. The same excuse can be used for sand, stones and fellow humans.
The issue is that many who canvass for alcohol consumption do not bear in mind that there are different types of alcohol. Infact, alcohol itself cannot be taken in ordinarily, that's suicide. So let's make a difference between. Wine itself is different from beer, and wine get classes and types. It'll be wrong to put all(e.g lager, ale, stout, juice, paraga etc) together and say 'they drank wine in the bible- alcohol is good. It pays to look WELL before you leap.

Hi, seems you've being following my advice. That's good to see. Surely, you're not asking for 'Who' in the above passage. Anyone who can read and write knows who, if you read the passage from verse1 or verse3. What you're interested in is 'why'.
In understanding the Bible, it will help to note that the Bible refers to all humans as belonging to God. Infact, the whole earth belongs to God. It's wit that in mind that you may appreciate Him. It's like when you have 20000 cartons of noodles or turkey that has expired/spoiled. It'll not be unreasonable to destroy them. Very few will question the way DORA handled such at nafdac. It's a similar thing with sinners and God. God sees sin as pollution/defect. He judges/destroys the sin except the sinner cleans up.
If you look at verse4 and 5 of that Passage quoted, you should observe that the people of Judah had sinned, among which they had filled the place with the BLOOD OF INNOCENTS and burned their children with fire.

Kunle my guy, how you dey? You no dey change? I'm yet 2 quote any scripture and you're already talking about me twisting scripture to justify delusion. Stop assuming the duties of a self righteous judge. Man, learn to listen to others, your views alone are correct to you. Every other person na zombie, dump the tension uncle kuns.
You seem to enjoy Luke 7:33,34. Have you ever bothered about the context of that passage, or you're content to run with the letter? The letter never profits, it is the Spirit that brings life. That the Lord Jesus said that John the baptist came 'neither eating bread' should be enough to tell you that Jesus is speaking in context. He's not saying that John didn't take food. He's saying John wasn't 'social',yet the men said he had a devil. jesus was 'social' and they still called him names. Or do you interpret the letter to mean that John did not take bread? Luke6:33
It is not biblical fact that Jesus was a regular 'drinker'. You've asserted that more than once. That was the perception of the men of that generation. This is simple english, why has the god of this world so blinded people's eyes. The people thought John had a devil and Jesus was a winebiber(regular 'drinker'). Thats what Luke 6:33,34. Ye say, ye say, not 'biblical fact'. Stop what my friend likes to call eisegesis!
And please respond like a christian, without personal bitterness and animosity.

@rabzy
Thank you for your reply, it's really appreciated. I like to practice godliness, not just stick theory, verses and commentaries in my head, that why I asked my previous question. You know, when you look at the initial post i.e mrfrancs', he's talking about his friend that sells alcohol and takes some. What is in my mind is that his friend is selling stuff like guiness stout, star, harp and co. Or maybe something like paraga, shepe and co. I don't think the alcohol he is talking about is methyl spirit, or Ethanol, or 'vine juice' or palmwine. It is this picture that I'm looking at.
I think it is hypocritical and delusional for many to argue that bible characters took the fruit of the vine and then use it to justify their taking the drinks that have held MILLIONS captive, wrecked many a home and is major source of road accidents and deaths all over the world.
I'll also add that most of the pro-beer people in the house seem to be typing under the influence. Quoting bible out of context doesn't change truth. Truth stands and it takes revelation to truly obey truth, though some obey by conformity or compulsion.
Christianity Etc › Re: Is It Really Sinful To Take Alcohol? by Image123(m): 11:07pm On Sep 17, 2009
I'll not enter deep into the discuss now but there's need to say that when people refer to alcohol, it includes the likes of shepe, ogogoro, schinapps, star extra lager 'the clear leader' etc. I believe it'll be at best naive to argue that Jesus will take these in the sense that it's taken if he were living with us. But I'll like to ask what it means to drink responsibly. Is it a sip, 2 bottles or 4crates? How responsible can we drink and how liberal can we be so as not be considered as conservative or legalistic? Also, is there a difference between wine and strong drink? If yes, what drinks can we put as examples? Looking forward to your response(s)

Christianity Etc › Re: Best Time To Have Lived Or To Live by Image123(m): 5:30pm On Aug 28, 2009
I think the best time to live is when you're alive. God has so made/prepared every human to be in the generation he should be. No human is a mistake or a product of chance. That's why NOW is the time to do what we must do. Every man has his/her night coming.
There's always been believers and unbelievers in EVERY generation. One would think unbelief will be little or sin small at the time of Jesus, but it wasn't so. In every generation, there's joy and pain, satisfaction and dissatisfaction, sunshine and rain, death and life, and choice. It what you choose to do that determines what you get from life. I made my choice, I chose Christ Jesus, I chose to fear God. It's the shortest and best cut to all I'll ever need.
Christianity Etc › Re: Divorce In D Bible by Image123(m): 6:32pm On Aug 26, 2009
Jesoul, can I also say fornication is OT but the way we discipline&address it is very different. See, I understand we've been consciously/subconsciously made to believe that adultery can lead to divorce, but Jesus did not say so.Like I said,it takes some meekness to subdue our pride of being right all along.
I'm not saying that Jesus is pointing us back anywhere, I'm saying He's refering to that scenario, a fornication situation not an adultery situation.
Christianity Etc › Re: Divorce In D Bible by Image123(m): 3:38pm On Aug 26, 2009
@Jesoul
really its not my view, it is Jesus'. Adultery is old testament as well, so don't give me that 'law law' story. But actually if you look closely, there's a slight difference here. In the Deuteronomy passage, it was a death penalty both for fornication or adultery. But here in say Matthew5, its a legally biblical divorce.
I don't enjoy speaking for divorce of any form and you're aware that God hates divorce. I'm pointing out the single exception/basis for divorce given in the new testament. Matthew 5:31 It has been said,. .
32. But I say unto you, That WHOSOEVER shall put away his wife, saving for the cause of fornication, causeth her to commit adultery: and whosoever shall marry her that is divorced committeth adultery.
This doesn't make it a RULE that divorce must take place because of fornication. It is a CAN, divorce can be, not must be. Where there's grace and true love, all part offences are forgiven. True love forgives and covers a load of sins, is not easily provoked and does not think evil. God's grace to you

Many(not all) will do same or worse, if they were in similar positios of power, influence, wealth, anointing or gifts. i believe we have all that is needed and necessary for the Christian journey. It's not my intention to argue which bible version is good/bad. That will derail the thread.
Just to correct though, most of the new testament was written in greek. The books were primarily written to gentiles and jews in diaspora. The common language was greek, And the NT was written after the ascension.

Jesoul, I said 'versions'. The kjv is just an easily accessible version, that's why I mentioned it specifically. You could check the original greek. Jesus differentiating between the two words 'fornication' and 'adultery' takes us to the divorce scenario in Deuteronomy22:13-21. That's the 'excuseable' condition for divorce, fornication not adultery. It's going to take some sizeable meekness to agree with this anyway.
Christianity Etc › Re: Divorce In D Bible by Image123(m): 7:43pm On Aug 25, 2009
@JeSoul and co.
If you look at the original, or perhaps versions like the KJV, you see that Jesus said except for 'fornication', not except for adultery/unfaithful. Yet He used the two words in that one sentence, These are the kinds of ways the devil has slipped through into the church while men slept. WATCH.

Isn't that a cute name, well, God sees better than we see. He sees the heart too. This man did not see Jesus as Lord, or the Son of man, or the Son of God, or as the Christ. He saw Jesus as a common man, one of their good religious leaders. And he's asking Jesus about the good thing he can do more.He's kept the commandments, but it seems there's more to do to qualify. That's why Jesus told him that there's none good. Being good is not in man, it's in God the Father of lights. Only God can make you good. That's why Jesus told the man to come and follow him. He's the way, God's righteousness

When you read scriptures, you need to learn to rightly divide the word of truth. This takes divine guidance and study 2timothy 2:15. Yes study, go through the scripture. Be sure that your context of a passage doesn't oppose another passage. If The Bible says 'there is none good but one, that is, God' (matthew 19:17). Some chapters later (matthew 25:21), the same Lord Jesus is congratulating someone, calling him 'good and faithful' servant. You'll immediately realise that the interpretation of one of the two passages must be wrong. All over the Bible, there's mention of good people. This shows that indeed there are good men. cf Psalm 112:5 A good man shows favour.
So was Jesus joking when He said that there's none good? No. What did he mean then? Look at the passage again. One came and said unto him, Good Master.

Why is the story so twisted? Some say the man divorced his wife, others say the wife left him. Some say the man was single for 10years, others say the divorce was 10years ago while the remarriage was 2 years ago. Some say the divorce was a result of childlessness or the woman finding a mate that pleased her, others say the divorce was because the man became a believer. Some say the man was sacked, others say he had to resign.
Well all that is not really my business. By the way, who says the 1st wife is an unbeliever? Did she say so?

Now you're beginning to sound weird and agitated. Sorry if it offends you but I'll take it that you're either an islamist or a pagan. Your tone makes me to think so, sorry again if that offends you.
Let me say that i'm not in any quest of any kind. Also, the word 'christians' is used generally to refer to followers/disciples of Jesus Christ. Christians also believe that the Bible is primarily written to them (whether they all obey or respect it is another issue). Its common to see christians saying to each other "this passage/verse is telling US".
I didn't specifically quote Jesus asking the christians to do anything, but you're right to say that. Christians will claim that anything Jesus is addressing to his disciples is also for them.
Hebrews12:1 says let US lay aside every weight. Christians will claim that US as refering to them i.e all followers of Jesus.
Seeing that Thirdborn is not telling us that he's being brainfed or educated, i'll love to send this post now
Christianity Etc › Re: Why Do Christians Ignore These Rules In The Bible? by Image123(m): 9:37am On Aug 21, 2009
@Aremugangan
Your question to me was that do I think Thirdborn can concentrate on Jesus, seeing christians around him aren't making things conducive.
My last reply was that he can concentrate. I quoted Jesus (luke9:62). The statement in that passage can be paraphrased as 'anyone of my disciples who doesn't concentrate is not qualified for my kingdom'.
I then gave biblical examples of God's children who concentrated inspite of distractions. I talked about Lot in sodom, Joseph among his brothers and in egypt, and Jesus Christ himself, who didn't have the cooperation of kinsman, tribesman or countryman. Hebrews 12:1,2 encourages the christian to lay aside every weight/distractions/discouragement and instead focus on Jesus. I'm hoping this post is clearer than the previous.
