I beg to disagree that most often, we know where we stand deep in our hearts. No, I think most often. We're very poor judges. We might feel/think we're doing great OR we might feel we've not done well, proly due to circumstances we face. But until we look into the perfect law of liberty(the Word), that's what tells us where we stand by the Spirit of God. The Word is the standard and God stands by it. You can't be wrong if you follow the standard by faith.
Coming more closely to our discuss, the standard is not just to be clothed with good works from 1Timothy2, but also shamefacedness, sobriety, modest apparel NOT WITH braided hair, or gold, or pearls, or costly array. We should consider the whole standard, not only verse10.

God's children are also holy. God has commanded them 'Be ye holy, for I am holy'.

A true christian can sin, but will not CANNOT sin.

All scripture is inspired and profitable for doctrine.

The Bible should be the standard, not each person judging for themselves. There's no point feeling you do well, when you can know in line with God's Word if you do well.

Jesus describes this hell as a place of torment, and Abraham's bosom as a place of comfort. To Jesus(and of course to His followers world all over), these two places aren't imaginary but real. Infact, Jesus tells someone on the cross at Calvary that they meet in paradise. Paradise and Abraham's bosom are the same place of comfort. It is where children of God go when they die. Hell is where children of the devil go when they die. This two places are not final destinations if you read the Bible to the end. The way you choose and live today/now determines where you go. Jesus is THE way to paradise. Come and He'll give you comfort.

That said, we've not been left completely in the dark about what happens after death. I wise person will say in his/her heart like K.Solomon; God will judge the righteous and the wicked: for there is a time there for every purpose and every work.
Without much ado, it's good to hear from the Judge 1st hand. For the Father judges no man, but has commited ALL judgement to the Son (John 5.22). Jesus Christ the Son says something about after death in Luke 16.19-31. You can read it on your own in the translation of your choice. It's good to note that Jesus talks of a CERTAIN rich man and beggar. This is not tales by moonlight, it's something certain.

Jesus says 'Sufficient unto the day is the evil thereof'. That's the attitude of scriptures and of God. God expects us to live our lives one day at a time, as it were. That's why there's little revelation and understanding given from God about 'pre-man/creation' and after death. The important is to take care of NOW. Knowledge of the future or past doesn't achieve as much as preparation for the future. Remember now your Creator. Theology, escatology and exegesis wouldn't do, live to please God. Every other creature fulfills their purpose. Man, Fulfill your purpose.
