Once again you are entitled to you opinion!
Its also interesting that you haven't called out the president for making that ill advised declaration on inauguration day despite the subsidy being announced to be ending by the end of June,2023!
Like I said abinitio,if the FG had decided to have their way,the strike would have commenced and you insults won't change anything!
The president must be told to make consultation before uttering any word esp in the interest of the nation!
It's not ill advised but the best move of the decade so far. There was no single provision of 1dollar/naira in the budget for subsidy. The government said they'll remove it earlier, then postponed the date for the new administration to take care of it. Tinubu got the transition notes and made a great decision to have none of it. It was the same thing that Obi promised, that he'll remove it immediately without it spending one day. There's no consultation needed to stop the madness.
FG is having its way, what do you keep repeating about an otherwise. Has pump prices been reverted? Is subsidy back?

The funny thing is that the people making these demands don't really matter. They are lost, don't you think?

That's your opinion but to me there is nothing foolish about such move!
If the FG had put up a stubborn front like their predecessor, the strike would have still been a reality!
I hope the president and his team are learning!
Its too early in his 'administration' to start having a major confrontation with labour or TUC!
This will show that a President with obvious health challenges should not stand on the podium to make reckless statements without thinking or consulting with his team about the impact of such declaration that is as sensitive as PMS!
It's a foolish and unreasonable move for the good of the country and whatever good is supposed to be accomplished by the ill thought strike. This Bola Ahmed Tinubu administration, take good note. The fellow is brilliant. Subsidy is gone, not going, it is gone. Anything you want to do about the decision remains irrelevant in the scheme.

The funny thing is that Ra, Obatala, and the others did not send you work and don't care one bit. On the other hand, Jesus sent people work that they are doing. Jesus is alive, that's all the proof needed.

Since FG is insistent about the immediate removal of subsidy, there will definitely be cost effects and financial changes that will be made which includes salaries as part of the welfare of workers!

There is nothing that TUC is demanding that should be strange to you unless you want them to suffer and eventually die of starvation after being made to sacrifice once again for a government that has refused to either fix any of the refineries or even cut down cost of governance!

You didn't complain about buhari spending almost 2billion on personal feeding per annum or the humongous salaries the NA members earn every month for doing absolutely nothing but when it concerns workers, you simply find your voice as if one of them stole your gf!

Mind you,the 200k will likely be a starting point for negotiations which may gradually reduce to probably a 100k after an agreement has been struck out!

Even the 200k you guys see as being huge has been halved by inflation and lost its value currently!

What should be paramount to the FG is to ensure that other demands from TUC which includes the private sector are also adhered to while they start commencing the total overhaul of our local refineries!
The good news is that the NLC and TUC has at last become reasonable and shelved their foolish strike. No need for me to keep engaging their unreasonable support base when they themselves have at least used their brains productively.

You still do not understand the humongous effect that this subsidy removal is causing!
Just yesterday night,I gathered 5k that I normally use to buy 25litres of PMS to buy less than 10 litres!
Now imagine those who cannot even afford it?
Imagine SMEs that would be struggling to afford such expenses every day just to survive!
Transport cost have doubled!
The 100k you are mentioning, inflation has already halved that money!
If not for sympathy, the right amount that should have been given to workers should be in the region of 200k-300k esp when you break down that money and start taking out food expenses, utilities, transport cost etc!
The least that TUC will eventually agree on will be 100k or nothing!
No be their fault say FG refused to build or repair the refineries!
TUC's bargain is only advantageous for Federal government workers(and don't complain when the new 200k minimum wage balloons the already overballooned salary of senators). How many Nigerians are FG workers? Do you think that the private sector minimum wage would miraculously jump up? Do you think even state governments are paying the current 30k, yet owing months of salary. Do you think teachers, secretaries, private drivers, cooks, delivery workers, contractors etc. that earn 15k, 18k will magically get salary increases?
i understand union leaders are usually set of unserious and unintelligent people but let's help them not to be myopic by educating them.

Unreasonable demands are not what we need. We need cuts in cost of governance. Do this people think about others at all. Do you know how many millions of people are not working for FG? Can state governments even afford the current 30k by FG? What about private businesses and schools that owe months of salary despite paying 10k, 15k? If basic minimum wage for FG is 200k, how much do you think Senate, ministers, presidency will be paid? Jokers.

SenatePresdo:
My question to you is, why did Tinubu protest against removal of Subsidy in 2012?
Time.
Probably because it was affordable then, considering the high revenues from crude oil compared to how much was being paid for subsidy. Also, there was a lot of unnecessary waste and notorious corruption going on in that government. Subsidy was also a blurred picture to most people and we remember the televised and reported oil scandals among politicians then.
That's over 11years ago. People and events have since changed. People have left jobs, countries, dear friends and even careers in that period. Even some lover spouses regret their decisions, not to talk of politicians whose decisions are not set/fixed in some holy book. CBN governors, Coordinating ministers and many more have since given insight on the scams of subsidy. Why do you feel he must stick to a decision/opinion like it came from heaven?

He said "fight The Corruption not Subsidy".

So he should live to his words and fight the corruption, not removing subsidy.
i don't know the context in which you quote him, maybe you can make it clearer. One thing that has become clearer to all though over the years is that subsidy itself is the biggest corruption in Nigeria. Obi, Atiku and Tinubu all agree with that. Buhari, GEJ, Okonjo Iweala, SLSanusi, Akinwumni Adesina, most of the governors past and present agree to this school of thought. The common slogan is "subsidy is a scam", or as Buhari would say "which subsidy, what is subsidy." A corruption that gulps over 4 trillion naira yearly is incomparable to any other known from of corruption in Nigeria.

Politics › Re: Subsidy: NLC Absent As FG, TUC Meet In Aso Rock by Image123(m): 11:59am On Jun 05, 2023
Bfly:
Let's forget politics and face reality.

Subsidy is not bad in itself but porous security measures that undermined the policy and allow our petrol to be stolen is what the government should fight against and government should put up measures so that we can refine our own oil, not importing what we produce. We have only put the money in the hands of unaccountable politicians.

You know what it means for Tinubu not to spend 8years right?
Do you know we still subsidised petrol until june30?

Governance is not about shifting positions, it is about repairing positions.
Individualism is gradually destroying our country.
Tell me what you think will comeout of Tinubu decisions except we don't feed other west Africa countries and the cabals that we are supposed to deal with.
Generally I'm not against removal of subsidy neither do i want Tinubu to fail but the announcement without consensus is absolutely disappointing. Maybe it is part of good governance. I don't know.
Here is the retort strawman.
Subsidy is a freebie, of course people enjoying freebies don't consider it as bad. The point is clear in the fact that it became UNSUSTAINABLE. We have started to BORROW to pay for this FREEBIE. There was a point when it was convenient, but it is no longer convenient. It is not justifiable to borrow over 4Trillion naira yearly to pay less than 200 importers while monies for Health, Education, Infrastructure, Security, Defence, Police etc is less than 25% of this so called freebie.
Subsidy remains free money for importers as they keep submitting bogus and unverifiable figures to the government to pay. As it has become more public, millions of litres are diverted/smuggled to other West African countries. A stop of subsiy clearly means that we will have MORE fuel(supply) as there is no incentive for corruption(smuggling to other countries). Instead of borrowing trillions, government can now make good gain selling fuel. This will free up budgetary allocations, increase IGR and directly increase how much money is shared and received monthly by the FG, State Governments and LGs. There will cotinue to be sabotage to refine our own oil if there is free money. Who needs a refinery that will be a loss when FG can pay subsidy for imports instead? Do you prefer to work day and night, provide power, pay staff, maintain equipment, market your goods so that you can produce a made in Nigeria good and struggle to make gains as you compete with importers being subsidized and getting FX at bank rates, or you'd simply import and get free money from government?
Buhari lacked the mind to remove subsidy so he left it out of the budget. All the subsidy of this year is NOT budgetted for. Last year's was borrowed. It's like your company didn't budget your salary as one of the things they will provide or spend money on. What can the accountant do? They should have simply stopped you from working, instead of you continued working without any provision to pay you.
There can never be consensus to stop subsidy. Can you consent to stop enjoying money? There is never going to be a convenient time to stop waste and freebie. Of course, the people enjoying it can never be happy, but you cannot kill Nigeria because some people are not happy.
