Faith is in Jesus. Anyone that believes in the Lord Jesus is a member of the Church.
Act 16:31 And they said, Believe on the Lord Jesus Christ, and thou shalt be saved, and thy house.
Rom 10:9 That if thou shalt confess with thy mouth the Lord Jesus, and shalt believe in thine heart that God hath raised him from the dead, thou shalt be saved.

When did Christ found these shops?

Provide biblical evidence?
Jesus Christ did not found the Roman Catholic Church either. The early church never referred to themselves as the Roman Catholic Church. They even saw others like Paul and James as leaders, they saw all the apostles as leaders. They had no so called pope, knew nothing about the vatican or about praying to, through or for Mary. They had no special regard for Rome or whoever it's Bishop was.

This is so unnecessary. You're one of the top RCC voices on this forum and i expect something better from you instead of all these cheap diversions. Scandals are found also in the Roman Catholic church. From child sex abuse, to the time of the Crusades and all the killings in the name of Christ, to the gay priests and infidelities of monks and nuns. Sin and folly is not only among 'protestants' and non professing christians. You need to know the definition of the universal Body of Christ, it is beyond your myopic view of it. The RCC synods right from the early centuries were to iron out DIFFERENCES in doctrines and beliefs, so don't come here forming saint in unity of belief. Most other denominations also have their internal wranglings and external agreements/doctrines.

You still can't mention who founded the Catholic Church and in what year it was founded.

You're just trying hard to ascribe vague dates and founders to avoid verification.
Those are not vague dates and names, that's church history. i don't want to go down details about church history as that will waste my time currently and it is plainly not what you need. Authenticity is not found in dates and names.

Hello to all.

On many instances agnostics and atheists like johnydon22, Plaetton and others have compared religious and spiritual concepts to the Sun. The Sun is there shining for us all. No one needs to be compelled, threatened, or persuaded in other to attest the existence of the Sun. The light it brings, the heat it produces, its effects on Nature are well observable for all. It therefore makes no sense to use duress or threat to force anyone to believe in the Sun.

I think this analogy is quite correct
. Any belief/doctrine -be it religious or not - that is the result of threat or persuasion, rather than evidence is condemned to be superficial and fragile. Believing in a God by indoctrination, conditioning or because of fear/desire to get any reward, is wrong and does not ultimately give glory to God.

a Supreme Being is not afraid to be questioned! Neither does he require mumu like religious obedience and worship. And Yes he can be found and we can relate to him with sincere heart.

True Faith is not belief without proof
. Real faith require proofs. The only difference is that since God and associated concepts are spiritual, the proofs can't be observed in the spiritual by Science in its present state. Just as many many years ago, science could not observe and attest with evidence the existence of micro organisms. That did not mean they didn't exist. Until appropriate tools were developed... I am confident that in the future it will be possible for scientist to observe maybe not spiritual but at least astral and ethereal happenings.

In the meantime, I know the human body has organs to "see" and examine in the other worlds, although those organs are for most of us not functioning properly due to atrophy. However it is certainly not by religious indoctrination and threat that true faith will emerge.

Therefore, each one must be left free to examine and search for himself the Truth about God/gods. If someone after thorough examination comes to the conclusion that there be no God, then it is his free choice. It should be respected and even encouraged as sincerity is everywhere positive.

Similarly those like me who - for me after personal experiencing of the divine - know God does exist, should be encouraged to stick to their convictions provided they don't force it on others. Everyone is entitled to his belief about God/gods. It is the product of their experience. with time and experience each sincere person will easily be able to observe if his beliefs hold or are just self deception. Then he will question his beliefs or stop being sincere about them.

Sorry if my Post was lengthy. I wish you all blessings.
Why is religion and spirituality compared only to the Sun, why not to education or civilization or health for instance? Education, civilization and health are good things you all will agree to. These three require some level of persuasion and even compelling in some instances to be achieved. These three are vital to human life also from day to day. Their effects are well observable to all, especially human beings. These are more real than using just the Sun. Every living thing needs Sun, only humans use religion, education, health and civilization in the ways that we broadly know them.
If we force a community to be immunized or a state government brings a law for children to be educated to secondary school level. If schools base results and grades on attendance and punctuality even, can we also say it is superficial and fragile?
Should each one be left free, respected and encouraged to educate and heal himself/herself or form their basis of civilization? Why not if not? Are institutions and corporations insincere when they demand specifics like when they want to employ or promote?

Then tell us than that founded the Catholic Church and in what year?

Nameless? Dateless?
The catholic church started about 3 centuries after Jesus' ascension. The early christians did not think of or call themselves catholic church. They were simply disciples, followers of Jesus(Christians), brethren. They did not have pope and they were all called to be saints. The Bishop of rome had no bearing or power until some over 200years after. There was no where in the early century of some idea of sole successor to Saint Peter and other such rubbish the RCC carries on its head like gala. It was in the 3rd century that th Bishop of Rome started to act as a kind of court/arbiter for issues that other Bishops/pastors could not resolve. Of course this was politically motivated with the likes of Constantine and Theodosius being in power and embracing Christianity as a state religion throughout Roman empire. Go and find something better to do with life and with the gospel than all these useless mastubations about being the first or oldest church. Who has that one helped? Every believer wants to see God, go to Heaven, please God and that is more important and critical than history and founder quibblings.

There is only one Church founded by Jesus Christ on St. Peter and the other apostles... The Catholic Church.

One Church, one faith, one doctrine.

"Denominations" is a word used by men who decided to imitate God's Church and preach their personal faith and doctrine...to glorify their nonsense.

When did these "denominations" come about? Centuries after Jesus died and resurrected.

Lol.
This is ridiculous, what makes you guys suffer from such a poor complex. You seem to have no idea what the church means. The church is not a particular group or denomination or whatever you think yourself. The Church is the Body of Christ. All members of the body of Christ are the church, not some denomination, whatever year they were founded whether 2000B.C or 2016.

You never mentioned Jesus contradicting the Bible. You spoke about Jesus being found in the Bible.

It is your belief that the Bible represents perfectly the teaching of Jesus and the will of God. I disagree with that claim. However it is my principle to respect whatever people are genuinely convinced about. You seem convinced about this claim, I will therefore not elaborate why I disagree with that. If however anyone is confused and would like to know why I dispute that claim, I'd gladly offer my humble opinion and reasons.

It has been for me a pleasure to discuss with you. I wish we have other opportunities to do so.

Cheerful greetings.
Opinions are a dime a dozen, personal opinions about Jesus are not enough. My initial call was about true Christians being followers of Jesus Christ, thereby followers of the Bible. The three are in sync. I'll reply to the general post later as it is flawed.

The Bible and Jesus are not one and the same thing. The Bible is a book, Jesus is a Being. Even if the Bible was written by Jesus, it would not have made it equal or tied to Him, nor necessary to have a relationship with him. The fact that i read the posts of Image123 on Nairaland, does not mean that I know Image123 personally. Indeed they are people who know Image123 in real life, without reading your writings on nairaland, and vice versa.

Besides, the Bible was not even written by Jesus, but by Followers of Jesus. There is a huge difference between Jesus and his followers. Again, even some books written by some followers were sometimes arbitrarily rejected by men, while others which were canonized, were not written by direct followers or written by anonymous figures or under pseudos.

It is not my aim to criticize any religious book including the bible. It is my opinion that anyone is entitled to his religious beliefs. I have nothing against those who believe the Bible or the qoran or other books are normative, provided they don't force it on others. However the notion that the Bible or any other religious book is God or is the only way to God or to spirituality, is in my opinion idolatry.

Greetings.
Evidently, we are both referring to two different Jesus. My Jesus is the Word of God, i don't know yours.

Yes and I agree. And following Jesus is not tantamount to following the Bible, nor following a Pastor, nor following a religious mouvement. as long as one is following Jesus, He is a (true) Christian, irrespective of his religious label even if He's a muslim, buddhist, or else.

Greetings.
Jesus Christ is the Word personified, you cannot separate the two, except you refer to another Jesus.

That actually is my point. It is my perception that Jesus is not copyrighted by Christianity as a Religion. Christianity does not have ownership rights on Jesus. Christ is an entity, the living son of God. Anyone anywhere with a sincere heart who loves his neighbor can have access to him irrespective of religious labels and with or without human intervention.

So yes, there were people in Africa who knew Christ, long before the Colons came to the shores of Africa. And there are still people today who know Christ while they never read the Bible. Likewise they are people well versed in the Bible, who do not know Him. Would you say a blind man is condemned never to know Jesus, because he can't read? Knowing Christ has nothing to do with a Book. Just as knowing a book does not guarantee you know the author of the Book.

Jesus himself did not write any book. His followers did. There is a great difference between the followers of Jesus and Jesus. God and spirituality can't be limited to any book whatsoever, but is to be experienced and lived day in day out.

Thank you for your time taking and answers. Receive my most noble thoughts.
Christianity is following Jesus, i think i said that earlier. Anyone following Jesus is a Christian. Anyone not following Jesus is not a Christian, anywhere and anytime.

Actually, you are asking a new question, previous ones have been answered. You cannot follow who you do not know. It's like asking if people would have understood English if the British didn't come to Africa. The early Christians were very outspoken and joyous about their faith/belief. They went everywhere preaching the gospel. It is not outside the box to say that the eunuch would have told others about Jesus, salvation, baptism and co. Sure. Adopting Jesus spiritually transferred Joseph's DNA to Jesus.
Jesus was not adopted, He was the Son of Mary. However, there is nothing wrong or bad in being adopted or do you think so or your new god told you so?

Keep lying for your dead Messiah. You've failed to show any verse from the Bible that supports your claim that Mary also descended from David. A vulture among hens remains a vulture. A bastard remains a bastard.
Jesus is alive forever, He's alive.... Complete the song. The geneology of Luke 3 is different from that of Matthew1 in case you have failed to notice. Matthew 1 geneology is that of Joseph where the word "begat" is repeatedly used, indicating the physical or biological processes involved.
Mat 1:16 And Jacob begat Joseph the husband of Mary, of whom was born Jesus, who is called Christ.

Luke's account uses "the son of" instead of "begat". This is very common with Jewish/Hebrew custom where the same word for son-in-law is translated as son, and the woman is not placed in geneology. Luke 3 traces Mary's geneology to David. i need to beg you to be reasonable. You do not require faith for this, let's see that logic/reasoning faculty put to use. Jesus was not born to unmarried parents. i'm not a muslim or unbeliever like you. Calling Jesus or God or me names is rather foolish on your part, it adds or removes no value to truth.

This is a different argument. Remember my earlier advice to you to stay focused. The OT prophesied the Messiah would be from David's line. Don't try to bend prophesy to fit your narrative. The veracity of Mary's claim isn't the subject of this discussion. The OT prophesied a Messiah from David's LINE. SOLOMON wasn't adopted. Jesus was.
You are actually the one losing focus by bringing in up spurious allegations about Jesus been adopted. His been adopted or not brings nothing significant to the table. Although Jesus was not adopted as He was the Son of Mary, no Bible passage states that the Messiah must not be adopted. Several Bible passages talk about things that Jesus(the Messiah) did and fulfilled from birth to ministry to death to teaching to resurrection. It's folly to skip all that and hide your tail between your legs in an adoption distraction. The facts haunt you even in your dream. Nobody mentioned SOLOMON, can you stay focused or have you started using? "Hebrew custom didn't permit women to enter their geneology. So even if a family ended with a daughter, instead of naming her, they usually inserted her husband. I pray your reasoning doesn't fail."

God's blood ni, mineral water ko. Same way you have lies running through your veins. See your next statement

Lies, lies and more lies. The qualifications of the Messiah are stated clearly in the Bible. Maybe you should study your Bible like you claim to. Oh well, religion takes the form of the mind who believes.
Kindly educate us on the qualifications of the Messiah stated clearly in the Bible, thanks. Oh, of course i know you don't have an answer to that, that's not news.

You can repeat the bold endlessly for all I care. Don't feel hurt or take it personal. Your GOD isn't the first, neither would it be the last, to be brought down by the forces of logic and reason. Your GOD(all three of HIM) slept with another man's wife, to give birth to HIMSELF. I mean, what greater blasphemy is there?
grin grin grin
You have failed to be logical or reasonable. Your feeble attempts are emotive not logical. Learn the difference and rein in those wild feelings, you are the cause of your miseries.

Following Jesus is not natural, not at all. People don't just decide and start following Jesus, it is more than that. It takes living and daily faith in Him. That is when you can obey the commandments of Jesus like those found in Matthew 5 or in the epistles.

Earlier in the day, this thread was on the frontpage, The Deceptions In 2016 Budget By Remi Oyeyemi . In that thread, many false claims were made which could have been easily verified. Unfortunately for reasons best known and maybe because it has "Source", it was posted on the frontpage. Here is proof that the article was a lot of lies, misinformation and ignorance.

So many lies in one page, why? Opposition should be truthful and credible please. Blatant lies are not sustainable.
The appropriation bill is something that is easily accessible on the Ministry of Budget and planning's website. Anybody can download it and look through, it is a 1810 page document with less than 5mb size. The budget is not gold or Bible, neither is it an unchangeable or unchallengeable document or law. In fact, it is being debated at the National Assembly presently. i have also previously expressed some of my reservations, observations and questions about it on this thread. The President in the last media chat has urged our journalists to engage more in INVESTIGATIVE journalism. It is therefore unfortunate that a national daily(NGR Guardian) will publish such baseless strings of lies for whatever purpose.

IN an administration fighting against corruption, that is in need of diversification, President Muhammadu Buhari has presented a budget that would appropriate N29.7 billion to his Ministry of Agriculture in comparison to N115 billion to a “do nothing” National Assembly. Even when you add the planned appropriation for the Universal Basic Education (N77.1 billion) together with the Ministry of Agriculture (N29.1billion), the National Assembly still gulps about N15 billion more than them. What a priority!
Again to be clear, i have my reservations for some of these figures, so i am not defending them per say, i am simply presenting them.
Federal Ministry of Agriculture's total allocation is 76,753,672,273(76.7billion not 29.7/29.1 choose anyone billion as ngrguardian reports). In the BREAKDOWN, it is shown that the Ministry of Agriculture has a recurrent(non-debt) expenditure of 29.7billion and a capital expenditure of 47billion, totalling 76.7billion.

Nigeria is in need of security no doubt. But this ought not to be an excuse for duplication. President Buhari budgeted N294.5 billion for the Ministry of Defence. The Ministry of Interior also has a lot to do with the security of the country and has a budget of N145.2 billion. We also have the Nigeria Police Formation and Command budget at N283.09 billion. Then there is tucked somewhere in the budget something called Operation Lafiya Dole to cost Nigerian Tax Payers N10 billion. “Lafiya Dole” is an Hausa Language expression that means “Compulsory Peace” or “Peace by Force.” If you add up the four, it gives you N732.79 billion.

With over N732.79 billion to these all important Ministries and Departments that deal with our security, can President Buhari explain to Nigerians what his National Security Adviser would be doing with additional N57.7 billion? This National Security Adviser allocation is an amount that is higher than the funds allocated to the Ministries of Transportation, Water Resources, Works, Power and Housing put together! Haba!
The Federal Ministry of Defence has a total allocation of 429,098,182,742. These information is right on page 1, missing it is mischievous. Ministry of Interior has a larger 498,453,097,241. The figures are so mixed up already i don't know where to start with you. Now, these are two different Ministries and it would be good to know the differences by finding out. If someone needs to be told that there is difference between Navy, Airforce, Army, Defence Academy, Police, Immigration, Custom, Prison, fire, NSCDC and your gateman, there is more problem than i can currently handle for you. Lafiya Dole is a special funds for combating Boko Haram insurgency in the North East region.
The Office of the NSA is not one man BTW. It has some MDAs under it like the DSS and National intelligence Agency. We cannot be blaming the 2016 budget for the multiplicity and duplicity of our Ministries and MDAs of course. The allocation for Ministries of Transportation is 215,797,393,980. This is more than NSA already so why the lie? Ministry of Water Resources is 44,206,418,733. Ministry of Works, Power and Housing is 467,645,043,369. All these information is right on page 1, why the lies? is that opposition?

President Buhari promised to create employment for Nigerian youths. But he budgeted only N7.8 billion for the Ministry of Labour and Employment. He also budgeted N9.5 billion for the Ministry of Mines and Steel Development, a sector that could easily generate high employment if properly funded and managed. Science and Technology Ministry received only N25.8 billion. Also remember that the Ministries of Transportation and Water Resources received N13.7 billion and N7.2 billion respectively.
Total allocation for Ministry of Labour and Employment is 13,397,589,915 not 7.8billion. Ministry of Solid Minerals Development is 18,625,703,622, Science and Technology Ministry is 53,743,337,717 not 25.8billion. Transportation again is 215.7billion and Water Resources is 44.2billion. All these are different from 300billion budgeted specially as Special Intervention fund to help tackle issues like employing 500,000 teachers and other plans. Please fear God if you do not fear man or yourself.

The immediate paragraph above contains five of the most important ministries that could have positive impact on the people if any government is serious at all. Their total expenditure is N64 billion. This is less than what President Buhari allocated to his Minister of Special Duties: N72.8 billion! Pray, what are the Special Duties to be done that they should cost so much? Then add N45.3 billion allocated to the Office of the Secretary to the Government of the Federation and Office of the Head of Service, N6.4 billion. What further evidence of misapplication of funds do we need than all these?
The Ministry(not minister) of special duties SGF was allocated 72,894,125. 72million is not 72billion, being sensational doesn't equal truth, integrity and veracity.

President Buhari has allocated to the Federal Character Commission N2.09 billion! What do they do in that Commission that would cost the Nigerian Tax Payers this much just in one year? Then there is what is called Outsourced Services that would cost N5 billion and Presidential Amnesty Programme which would also cost N20 billion. Who are the targets of this Amnesty Programme? Is it Boko Haram Terrorists, or Niger Delta Militants?
Federal Character Commission was allocated 3,371,278,210, their recurrent is the 2.09billion. i do not know what they do as well, maybe others can enlighten us. Recurrent expenditure however needs to be compared with previous ones for proper perspective. We all know that the government met an overbloated workforce in the FG and Civil Service. They shouldn't just sack everybody either IMHO. However, they do need to keep paying salaries and be discouraged from reducing salaries. It is a huge dilemma.

Why did President Buhari budget N45 billion for INEC in a year when there is no national election? What is this money for? Is this money just for salaries or other assignments? If this amount is for assignments, what is the nature of those assignments? Nigerians deserve answers to these questions.
INEC is an Independent body and will be in the best position to answer this. Same thing the NASS. It is very likely that is what INEC requested. They do not need to wait till election year before the start rushing.

President Buhari needs to explain to Nigerians what Mr. Lai Mohammed would be doing with N39.1billion allocated to his Information Ministry that would be more important than what Ministry of Transportation N13.7 billion, Ministry of Water Resources N7.2 billion and the Ministry of Industry, Trade and Investment N10.5 billion would be doing? These three Ministries’ allocation put together is less than Lai Mohammed’s Ministry of Information!
This has already been debunked. Ministry of Information and Culture is getting 45.1billion not 39.1billion BTW. Remember that two ministries have been merged. NTA is getting 6.9billion of the money, oops. i hope they look like CNN or at least Channestv by the end of the year oh.lol. FRCN is getting another 7billion of the allocation, National Orientation Agency to get 5.8billion while the Ministry headqtrs gets 5.2billion. I believe zero budgeting blah blah would also come in to curb/justify some of these allocations. More details on page 315 of the Consolidated Appropriation bill details.
Ministry of Transportation is 215.7billion not N13.7 billion, Ministry of Water Resources is 44.2billion not N7.2 billion and the Ministry of Industry, Trade and Investment is 16billion not N10.5 billion. The figures you have stated are mostly recurrent expenditure which are mainly salaries. We all know of people sitting in government offices doing next to nothing productively, yet being paid. That is why the average Nigerian dreams of federal government work, not patriotism but these kind of bloated workforce. You are well aware most of these workers have been there for long, not this administration's fault. Years of nepotism, political reward and showmanship, bribery and man know man recruitments are the main cause of these large recurrent expenditure. It is not a issue of ghost workers or deception from Buhari government.

How could President Buhari justify the proposed spending of N400 million on a weekend symposium? Yes, the 35th Annual General Meeting and Symposium of Shelter Afrique slated for June 2016! How can an administration that is yelling against wastage and corruption approve such amount of money for a two-day affair?

It is interesting to know that N2.3 billion would be showered on all former Heads of State, Presidents and their deputies just within one year alone. This is upon the mismanagement and tragedy they have all visited on this country. However, more interesting is the N19.9 billion budget that President Buhari and his coteries in the Presidency would spend in the coming year.
Shelter Afrique AGM and Symposium is usually like a week programme. Nigeria is hosting about the whole of Africa this year. These are some of the unavoidable costs of hosting such international events. i don't know how the hosting rights are drawn maybe we could avoid or whatever, but we need to host them properly. The amount is not ludicrous compared to usual amounts for such programmes. The world will not end because of that, it is not corruption. Money spent on former leaders is CONSTITUTIONAL. This is not mismanagement but law. We remember when some of our governors were trying to constitutional get themselves huge sums of money as pension when they leave. If their HoReps abi na Assembly signed it, that will be the law/burden of coming governments. It is not something Buhari can just decide in his bedroom.

The most scandalous part of the Budget is what a commentator on social media described as follows:
“N1.75 billion for President Muhammadu Buhari’s feeding in 2016 is a direct attack on collective commonsense of Nigeria and a stark contrast to his promised change.

Is it not fraud for Buhari to deceive Nigeria by publicly drinking N10 Milo sachet (tea) during the Presidential election campaign? Even if Buhari is feeding Sharks, Whales and Buffaloes in Aso Rock, N1.75billion is too much for one man, when millions of Nigerians are finding it difficult to feed even once a day.

Former President Goodluck Jonathan was almost roasted for budgeting N1billion in 2011 and reducing it even to N717.3 million in 2013, N542 million in 2014 and N530 million in 2015, but Nigerians are silent on these reckless squandering by Dr. Buhari.”

There is absolutely nowhere in the budget that says 1.75 billion for President Muhammadu Buhari’s feeding in 2016. The Presidency also denied that earlier. Foodstuff/Catering material supplies for the President is 114,967,140. This is on page 7. The Vice President's is 16,683,193 on page 8. My worries are that opposition is standing on cheap lies that cannot stand and this is dangerous for our democracy because there might be nowhere else or alternative to turn to after these lies and half-truths fail.

Ubenedictus:
THE CATHOLIC CHURCH IS NOT A DENOMINATION, IT IS THE CHURCH FOUNDED BY CHRIST. IT IS UR NEW SECTS THAT ARE CALLED DENOMINATIONS.
A denomination is a religious grouping within a faith that has its own system of organization. The Roman Catholic Church is a denomination. Most of these other churches usually claim non-denominational BTW, no be only you get that problem.
