MaxInDHouse:You are correct sir. I do not disagree with you. And that is a good explanation of that verse. Like I explained earlier the word 'elohim' means god/divinity/deity. Jesus is divine/deity/god. This does not imply that he is equal to god who is the Father of all. He himself said that 'I go to my Father and your father, to my God and your God". Jesus is above all and only the Father is above him. But let me note something, in the original Greek 'form' is not there as you used it. In the original it puts it as "being 'theos'', which is 'being god or deity or divine'. So, please, if you are not safe with calling Jesus god, don't alter the verse, since 'theos'' also means deity or divine', you can replace it with 'being divine.' You can rephrase the passage like this to be safe sir. Philippians 2:6-7 [6]Though he was God/Divine, he did not think of equality with God/Divinity as something to cling to. [7]Instead, he gave up his divine/god privileges; he took the humble position of a slave and was born as a human being. When he appeared in human form, It means Jesus for the sake of salvation left his divinity and did not hold tightly to his divinity but took on the form of man which is an humble act. Jesus is god who is subject to the Father who is above all and he is the one true god. Thanks. |
MaxInDHouse:Maxim. I was careful with my choice of words like Paul in Corinthians 15. Jesus is not EQUAL TO GOD. Equal to means you can replace if stand in. But he is EQUAL WITH GOD. Equal with God means God has exalted him and given him a name that is above all names and all nations are to worship and serve him and only The Father who is the One True God is above him. I don't think you disagree with that sir. Thanks. |
cornelboy:I respect and understand your point sir. Whether you put 'a' of not, we both agree that Jesus is divine which the words 'elohim' and 'theos' (god) stand for. Also, we both agree that the Father is the Only One True God and He is greater than Jesus who is his son and Messiah. If we all can agree on this, I believe the argument of the deity or divinity of Jesus is settle and the argument of the Father being his superior and his God as Jesus himself confess is simple. Let's put it this way so we can all agree. JESUS IS GREATER AND GOD TO ALL OTHER CREATURE AND THE FATHER IS GREATER THAN ALL CREATION INCLUDING JESUS AND THE SUPREME GOD OVER ALL WHOM JESUS HIMSELF IS SUBJECT TO IN ALL THINGS. Thanks. |
gohf:Good. Now I understand ur view cos I have been lost. Didn't know ur standpoint until now. You said Jesus was not equal with God. Let start with that. I hope before you give an answer you must have considered different passages of scriptures. Though you gave a distorted explanation of John 1, but let's see your interpretation on being equal with God using Philippians 2:5-11. Pls explain the passage to us. Thanks |
gohf:Sir, with all due respect, you know this is not true. The passage was clear. That passage like any other passages show the divinity of Jesus before his earthly birth. Jesus was with the Father at creation before the creation itself began. I have made my points, it is not to convince you but to share my thoughts. You have shared yours and u are well respected and celebrated. Thanks. |
gohf:You have successfully derailed this platform from its original purpose. Let's go back to the thread cos I don't like vague discussion. The op asked three questions and I provided answers. Let's see any of my answer you disagree with and let's know ur viewpoint, because currently I am not sure what ur stand is. OPS QUESTIONS 1. Is Jesus God? 2. Is Jesus equal to the Father? 3. Is the Trinity doctrine scriptural? MY ANSWERS 1. Jesus is god (elohim/theos), but Jesus is not the Father. 2. Jesus is equal with the Father but no equal to the Father as the Father as exalted him to be in charge of his creation and to sit with him on his throne (equal with the Father) but he is subject to the Father and his will is subject to the will of the Father and the Father is above him (not equal to the Father). 3. The Trinity message is scriptural only to Salvation as the Father (1) sent the son (2) and the Father through the son sent the holy spirit (3) who together united in purpose help mankind to achieve or attain the salvation of God. But the Father is Supreme Over the son as the son is supreme over the spirit. The three are united in purpose but distinct in authority and roles. Those are my points and I supported them with scriptures in my first response to the op. If you have any issues with any of the above, be specific, let's not derail the thread on a side topics. Thanks. |
gohf:Though the question was not directed to you but I respect your input. But you did not anstmy question? Was 'elohim' in Psalm 8:5 the same as 'angelos' in Hebrews? I believe it's a straight forward question. |
gohf:Sir, why all this back and forth? If you dispel Jacob, can you also dispel Manoah and his wife in Judges 13:22 or Abraham in Genesis 18:16-33? You mentioned Moses. Let me ask you. Do you believe Moses saw the back of the Father? Because if you see my back, you have seen me. And Jesus said 'No man has seen the Father AT ANY TIME except the son who comes from the Father.' The Father never comes to the realm of men, he only send his messengera in his name to act in his stead before the sons of men. Moses only said the fullness of the Father's glory revealed in the angelic glory of the angels whom the Father has put in charge of the Israelite. Moses never saw the Father. Not him, not any before nor after him till date. Not even Stephen in his vision nor John of Patmos in his revelation. |
gohf:Okay sir. Can you explain in your own way- John 1:1. I am listening since you claim that the word of god (theos) is not god (theos). I am waiting. Because I have explained how Jesus is god but not the Father but you said no. Explain John 1:1 in your own way. I am listening. |
gohf:So, if you know me, you will know I rarely talk and I don't like back and forth. I have Hebrew and Greek scriptures. I don't like picking errors, but I rather ask questions. According to your rebuttal in your first paragraph, just two quick questions. (1) Verse 1. Why were the 'gods' called an 'heavenly court' if they are not heavenly beings? (2) Verse 6. Why were the 'gods' referred to as the 'chikdren of the Most High' if they were not heavenly beings? On your second paragraph. It is true that angels do not refer to themselves as 'elohim' except in the case of Moses, but that aside. If that is your point, it can be used against you by those who do not believe that Jesus is God. Because Jesus never referred to himself as 'theos"- god. Not even 'son of god". He humbling calls himself 'the son of man' and messenger of god. John 17:3 [3]And this is the way to have eternal life—to know you, the only true God, and Jesus Christ, the one you sent to earth. But we know that he is god (divine/deity). Thanks. |
gohf:I respect your view sir. In my explanation I have proven three things. (1) The word 'elohim' god was a general word for 'divinity' at the time. You can agree with me on the basis of Jacob and Manoah that I quoted. (2) I showed from scriptures that Jesus was divine even before his birth and has been with the Father even before the foundation of the word- John 17:5. He is god (elohim/divine/deity). (3) That the Father is supreme and superior to the son- Jesus. That Jesus himself showed that he is subject to the Father in all things. He called the Father his God and derived his authority from his father- John 20:17. Conclusion: Jesus is god and above all, except the Father who is above Jesus and above all.- I Corinthians 15:27-28 That is the position of the scriptures. I am Pentecostal and I am loyal to the scriptures and not denomination. |
MaxInDHouse:Yes, I do, since they are 'divine' that makes them 'god' (elohim). According to Psalm 82:1 Psalms 82:1 NIV [1] God (elohim-) presides in the great assembly; he renders judgment among the “gods” (elohim): I interprete this passage as "the Father (elohim) god presides in the great assembly, he renders judgement among the angels (refer to by the psalmist as gods (elohim) just like in Psalms 8:5. I believe this is somehow relatable with Job 1:6 and Job 2:1. I believe in both passages, the scriptures refers to the heavenly assembly or court as an assembly of angels or heavenly beings who have been sent by the Father to lead and guide the affairs of men. They give report and account to the Father on how they manage the affairs of men. I think along the line, the issue of idolatry has it stem from men's encounters with this heavenly beings overtime. So, yes. Angels were referred to across scriptures as 'elohim' which means god. |
MaxInDHouse:Good. You are correct sir. I believe you have at least some knowledge of Hebrew language. The Hebrew word-'elohim' means god, divine, deity, or supernatural. They use the same word for angels as in the case of Jacob who said he fought against god (elohim-) and prevail but we know that he fought not against the Father but angel, as no man can fight against the Father and win. Also in the case of Manoah and his wife, they saw an angel and they said they would die because they have seen god, but we know that wat they saw was an angel and not the Father. Maxim. Do you believe in the divinity of Jesus before he was born? I mean do you believe that he has been in existence before his birth or that his life began at his birth? If you do, in which I know you do. Why don't you then agree with me that Jesus is god (elohim, deity, and divine) from the standpoint that the word 'elohim' is use for divinity, but he is not the Father- the supreme god over all other god and that only the Father is superior to him and Jesus is in turn superior to all other creature in heaven and on earth. |
MaxInDHouse:Smile. I respect your taught but you need to broading your view. I don't hold a doctrinal point of any church, I stand on the scriptures even if it opposes the standpoint of my church. I am loyal to the scriptures and not to denomination because of you are loyal to a denomination, your view will be influenced and you will not be objective in your view. My close associates are jw and they know me, I respect their view but when I talk they know I speak to issues objectively. You AV read my comments before some years back, I just stayed away for personal development. Maxim, let me ask you a simple question that will confuse you. Explain the difference between these two verses of the same origin and meaning, but different in just one word. Psalm 8:5 and Hebrews 2:7 Psalms 8:5 [5]Yet you made them only a little lower than God (elohim) and crowned them with glory and honor. Hebrews 2:7 [7]Yet you made them only a little lower than the angels (angelos) and crowned them with glory and honor. You know I don't like back and forth, tell me why the psalmist used (god)- elohim-, and the writer of Hebrews while making reference to the psalmist changed it to (angels)- angelos. Does it mean that the psalmist and the writer of Hebrews viewed angels as 'elohim' (god) or the writer of Hebrews was trying to correct the psalmist? I will go with the first. Let's hear ur own view on this two same but distinct verses. |
cornelboy:Sir, I respect your view and I have the same view too. But let me help you to create a balance. Your view is correct but not complete. Let me answer or rephrase your thoughts one after another. 1. Is Jesus same as God? The answer is YES. But is Jesus same as the Father? The answer is NO. I will clarify this in my last paragraph. 2. Is Jesus equal to God? The answer is YES. But is Jesus equal to the Father? The answer is NO. He was only equal 'with' not 'to' the Father. I will also clarify this in my last paragraph. 3. Is the Trinity doctrine scriptural? The answer is YES. But has the Trinity doctrine been rightly taught the way the scriptures viewed it by most denomination? The answer is NO. MY LAST PARAGRAPH The word 'god'-'elohim' (note that there is not capital letters in Hebrew and Greek) is a plural word that is used for anyone divine or special. Angels were known as 'god' in the biblical period. Study the story of Jacob wrestling with god (angel) Genesis 32:30. Remember Manoah and his wife saw an angel and the said they saw 'god'- Judges 13:22. There are numerous examples of angels been regarded as God all across the scriptures but those two examples are clear enough for that. Men were also called god. Remember that even the Father through his angel called Moses god (elohim) unto pharaoh and Aaron his prophet- Exodus 7:1. Abraham was called 'god' (elohim) by the Canaanites, even though some versions changed it to 'mighty' and some 'prince' but the original Hebrew word was 'elohim.'- Genesis 23:6. In Psalms the writer clearly stated that 'elohim sits on his throne in the heavenly court and judges among the elohim- Psalm 82:1. Jesus is god (elohim-) because he is divine/deity but he is not the Father- the one and only god who alone is above all. Jesus is below him but superior to all other god. In the true Bible teaching of the Trinity, just like the word Bible is not in the scriptures, the word Trinity is not in the scriptures but the Father who alone is supreme and above all sent his son Jesus on a salvation mission (John 3:16-18) and after fulfilling the mission the Father through Jesus sent the holy spirit to guide and lead men into all truth (John 16:13-15). These three, united in purpose but distinct in authority as the Father is above the son and the son is above the spirit play their roles in the salvation of mankind. This is how the Trinity should be taught and not to make the three equal in authority as that is not true, but they are one and united in purpose. Jesus is not equal to the Father. That should not even be a debate at all. Jesus himself declared severally that "My Father is greater than I am." And severally he always makes it known that he is subject to the Father's will and that the Father is his God- John 20:17. The son came from the Father but the Father came from no one. The son is god (deity/divine/worthy of worship) but the Father is god over all (deity/divine/worthy of worship). Thanks you so much. I hope you will just include this in your view which is correct but not complete. Peace. |
SeraphicWind:I respect your compassion and you love, but we can't be more compassionate than our Savior and Lord. Remember even Jesus said he had kept all his disciples except the son of perdition (Judas). The power of salvation is not in the church, the power of salvation is in Christ. The duty of the church is not only to add more sheep to the flock but as we add sheep to the flock we must beware of wolves in sheep's clothing who sneak in unaware to influence and devour the sheep. My statement was clear and I don't think you disagree with dat. If a homosexual comes to church with the knowledge that he is a helpless sinner who needs the saviors help to be delivered from such sin, he should be welcomed, helped and treated with love by the church, that is the church's responsibility to help save sinners from the pit of hell into the kingdom of our Lord and his christ. The same goes for all other addictions. But if the homosexual comes with a different mindset which can pollute the church, it is the duty of the church to excommunicate and deter such person from the congregation. This is also the duty of the church to help protect the sheep from getting devour by wolves in sheep's clothing. We shouldn't focus on a duty and neglect the other, that has done more damage than good to the body of Christ over the years. It is interesting if you to thing about such people who had been saved by welcoming them into the church, but don't also forget to look at the millions of people who had been corrupted by such lifestyle because the church welcomed them into the church. In a bid of winning souls, we shouldn't also be losing souls. When you compare the number of those of them saved to those who had been corrupted to join them, you will know that the church is at a very big disadvantage. Read the verses I quoted earlier in my first mention critically. Thanks. |
Btruth:Sir, I respect your views and you made good points. But you didn't put three things into consideration. 1. Who was Paul speaking to in the letters to the Galatians and Romans? 2. What was the works Paul was preaching against in both passages? 3. Which other apostle explained the quoted passage Paul quoted which was Genesis 15:6 and why? Answers: 1. Paul was speaking to Gentile believers who lived in the province of Galatia and Rome. 2. The "works' refers to the 'obedience to the law of Moses.' It does not mean a believer can live anyhow. It only means a believer does not need to keep the Mosaic law to be made right with God, because some so called apostles had preached that amongst the brethren which troubled their minds. Acts 15; Galatians 3:1-2; Romans 4:9-13. 3. James spoke against the misinterpretation of Paul's message to the Romans especially the misinterpretation of chapter 4 like people do today. James was not against Paul but was only setting the matter straight in James 2:14-26. James was trying to clarify that faith in God does not and cannot equal with the mental awareness that God is one, Jesus is the son of God and Jesus died and resurrected on the third day for my sin. James dispelled that by making reference to the demons believing in all this thing but does it equal to them being saved because they believe. James also proved that Abraham faith was shown through his obedience to God and keeping the instructions of God. So, a Christian shows his faith not with lips, but by doing the will of God. Matthew 7:21-23. You will believe with me that Paul will not support a Christian living a life of sin. 1 Corinthians 5:1-7. Do not be deceived, he that does what is right is righteous. You can only do what is right when you believe in God who judges all men. So, works as used by Paul should not be misinterpreted as 'doing good.' as doing good as part of the lifestyle of a believer. And faith as used by Paul should not be misinterpreted as a mental awareness but as a strong belief in God's character and instruction which must be mirrored in the life of a believer. Thanks and God bless you. |
SeraphicWind:Sir, I respect the fact that you want to be civil. But it is impossible to please men and look good at the expense of God's irrevocable standard. My submission: On homosexuals. Everyone deserves salvation and God's desire is that all men be save. So, if a man who is addicted to sleeping with a man and realizes that his actions are wrong but finds it difficult to help himself no matter how long he tried. If such a person comes to church with the hold of freedom through Christ from that addiction like any other addiction, such a man should not be crucified but assisted by the church to win the war over that sin. John 8:1-11. Pay attention to verse 10 but don't neglect verse 11. But this is where the word of God should be carefully divided. In case the homosexual comes to church to fellowship with the belief that he is doing nothing wrong claiming that was how he was created or believing that Christ had paid it all and thus he can live anyhow. Such a man should be excommunicated from the church or fellowship. A little yeast leavens the whole lump and that is the standard of scriptures. 1 Corinthians 5:1-7. You may disagree, I respect your view and I have made mine in a polite way. God bless you. |
Polchiz:Okay sir or madam...like I said...wetin I know about politics except say no be now winner dey show...na after counting of ballots. Like I said...wetin small boi like me know about politics... Sorry dat I trespassed |
Jameskyrian:Like I said...wat do I even know about politics...my apologies |
Jameskyrian:Smile...this reminds me of Yahaya Bello before the APC primary election...he later came a distant 5th... I am not into politics and I don't even know wat am doing in the politics section...I pray the man after God's own heart wins either, Obi,Atiku or Tinubu... My point is just that popularity of all candidates will be known on the day of election. If Yahaya Bello could come a distant 5th in an ordinary primary...my brother...I SHOCK |
Janosky:Do u wonder how people view ur quote on someone's comment. You highlighted wat I explained without understanding of wat I explained anyways...ur just about highlighting. But I trust the wisdom of the people on this thread reading the part of my comment u highlighted and I bliv they understand ur chasing clout. My stand on Trinity has bn made know and how the relationship btw the Father,Christ and the Holy spirit shud be explained. Keep chasing clout anyways...at least,it gets u busy. |
Janosky:Lol... finally he (Janosky) goofed...he thought about how he could accuse me but found nothing...glory to God in the highest. Unfortunately for him...I am not a trinitarian...go into my comments in other thread...u will see my take on the topic Trinity. Janosky...since u failed this one...can u keep trying to guess wat I believe in except Christ and the scriptures?...I am a Christian...keep guessing wat ORGANIZATION I belong to. Trinity? Constantine? Council of Nicae Creed? None is my conviction. Can u see u can't know who I am except being a CHRISTIAN. I am proud to not be an association fanatic that will make people not to see Christ in me but Organization...I am a Christian...all u can see is christ. Keep trying ooo...people are reading ur FAILURES |
Janosky:I am waiting ooo...start listing the names of my gods of men that u know me with...oya start... I av mentioned Charles Taze Russell... Mention ur own u know me with...u dat u only know me as Christian...can u even guess my denomination or like u call it ORGANIZATION?...Try if u can |
Janosky:Lol...lame excuse Tell me what SCHOOL the twelve disciples went to or Jesus sent them to? Don't u go to school today? Tell me what sound address system Jesus used to preach to people? Don't u use sound address system in ur Hall today? UNFOUNDED EXCUSES |
achorladey:My Guy...that's not even the funniest part...if they had studied those scriptures alone...maybe we would av forgive them for misinterpretation... U know the funniest thing? There forefounders went to study the GREAT PYRAMID OF GIZA where the ancient old Pharaoh was buried...they said that is the map of the world... IS THAT NOT INSANE? Maybe MaxinDHouse has a better explanation...THEY ALWAYS HAVE |
Emusan:Lol...u got him...Maybe MaxinDHouse will answer why the had to sell out THE HALL OF SAINTS they built in anticipation of the Ressurrection of Abraham and the Father's of Faith after their prediction failed in 1925? MaxinDHouse...please come and explained why it was sold ooo...when those Fathers(Saints) refused to Ressurrect in 1925 |
MaxInDHouse:They THOUGHT...we Christians are still thinking today too...he may come today or not...we are always read. But JW set date...exact date...but they failed... Not ONCE Not TWICE BUT SIX TIMES... FAILURE AT IT PEAK...FALSE PROPHETS ORGANIZATION SEALED |
Janosky:BLASPHEMY! BLASPHEMY!!! BLASPHEMY I av warned u...I know u won't listen...those prepared for everlasting torment won't listen...but I av warned u...u just crossed that line that God lie and Jesus lied and God break is promises... BLASPHEMY! BLASPHEMY!! BLASPHEMY!!! The Bible says "The Lord is not a man that he should lie,nor a son of man that he should repent of his promises" The Bible says "The Lord is not fail concerning his promises as SOME accuses of failure but long-suffering towards all not wishing that any should perish but that all should come to repentance" Again the Bible says A day is like a toward years and a thousand years like a day in the eyes of the Lord Jesus did not set date for his coming,he only said the kingdom of God is at hand(coming)...So no date no lie. JW set date for Jesus six times...Jesus did not come...they set date,it failed,so they are liars and thereby FALSE PROPHETS |
MaxInDHouse:Thank God you said they thought but not disobeyed...but u people went on to disobey by setting a date even Christ CANNOT set. That on it's own is BLASPHEMY. I won't allow heresy in my home...I won't even offer you a cup of water to drink if u come. I will not take part in encouraging ur heretic destructive bound teaching Read 2 John 1:10-11 [10]If anyone comes to your meeting and does not teach the truth about Christ, don’t invite that person into your home or give any kind of encouragement. [11]Anyone who encourages such people becomes a partner in their evil work. |
achorladey:He would Dodge the answer and start saying all sort of BLASPHEMY...imagine him calling Jesus false prophet that Jesus said the kingdom of God is at hand and dat did not fulfil... imagine his audacity |
MaxInDHouse:BLASP! BLASPHEMY!! BLASPHEMY!!! For calling Jesus Christ a liar...u blaspheme God...Jesus said; Matthew 24:36 [36]“However, no one knows the day or hour when these things will happen, not even the angels in heaven or the Son himself. Only the Father knows. Jesus saying the kingdom of God is at hand means d kingdom of God is coming...he didn't set date because he said he did not know... blasphemy! blasphemy!!Jesus never said 1878,1914,1925,1968,1975... JW set those date and they failed...Jesus never set date and he is JUSTIFIED. In Act 1:6 Acts of the Apostles 1:6-7 [6]So when the apostles were with Jesus, they kept asking him, “Lord, has the time come for you to free Israel and restore our kingdom?” [7]He replied, “The Father alone has the authority to set those dates and times, and they are not for you to know. The disciples only ASKED QUESTIONS...they did not predicta date. Jesus told them only the Father had the right to set date and they agreed and none of them in their letters went on to SET DATES. But JW disobeyed God and went on in their publications WatchTower and SET DATES and THEY FAILED. BLASPHEMY...Do wat God alone can do is BLASPHEMY. So, JW can be tagged as BLASPHEMOUS ORGANIZATION |
