Are these people under a spell? This is plain stupidity! How else do you explain this level of blind follow-follow? With stories like this, why won't people have wrong perceptions about Africans and African churches? If we are not busy chasing witches and demons, its always something else! Pastor Lesego Daniel, the founder and head of Rabboni Centre Ministries, a South African church at Garankuwa TUT campus at Pretoria, is making his members eat grass! As in grass like what cows and goats eat. According to someone who claims to have access to the church's closed social media group, the pastor was basically trying to prove that humans can be controlled by the spirit and they can eat anything to feed their bodies. Religion / Watch Pastor Sign Fireman In Documentary Titled Nigeria's Millionaire Preachers by infonubia(m): 6:28am On Jan 09, 2014 |
Is the seed and harvest teaching - as it is being taught in recent times - empowering or crippling Christians? Why do most churches teach seed as some monetary value? How about you do good, you reap good and you do evil, you reap evil? Why is it mostly about money? A friend sent me this video earlier today and I didn't get the chance to watch it. I finally remembered to watch the video as I prepared to sleep and I was shocked to find out that this 2011 video exposes some of the lies that have plagued the new generation Nigerian churches, especially in the wake of what is now known as the 'prosperity movement'. I quickly jumped out of bed to post this documentary titled 'Nigeria's Millionaire Preachers' narrated by Seyi Rhodes for UK-based Channel 4. The main subject of the video is one Pastor Sign Fireman, a Lagos-based Pastor who according to Sahara Reporters, was arrested over alleged ritual murder of a virgin girl. The video also touched on a few other prominent pastors like Chris Okotie and Chris Oyakhilome. As a christian, there are lots of things that disgust me about the video (ex. putting money at the pastor's feet) but I'll let you watch the video. The video was uploaded on Vimeo. I couldn't get it to work on NL. You can view it here |

Religion / Inri Christo, 66-year-old Brazilian, Believes He Is A Reincarnation Of Jesus by infonubia(m): 5:56pm On Jan 07, 2014 |
Wonders shall never end. How many Jesus do we have now? The other day, an Australian claimed to be Jesus reborn and now he has a Brazilian counterpart. Let them just call a meeting of all Jesus-es and have them battle it out for who's going to be the main Jesus reincarnate. This time, Inri Christo, a 66-year-old Brazilian man who believes he is the reincarnation of the son of God. His Jesus-like dressing (the Australian dude was just a regular guy in shirt and jeans) and unorthodox views on capitalism, abortion, and even Christmas has seen him detained by police more than 40 times in the 35 years that he's spent preaching. Inri Christo has 'hundreds of followers' from around the world, including folks from the UK and France. Some of these folks live with him at his 'church' compound outside Brasilia in Brazil. Most of his followers who live his church - mostly women - have followed Inri for quite a long time. The eldest disciple, Abevere, 86, has followed him for 32 years and the youngest disciple is now 24. She first met Inri when she was just 2 years old. As ‘Jesus reborn’, he gave himself the name Inri which means - Jesus the Nazarene, King of the Jews' and Christo which means - Christ. His view on Christmas is ironic. Inri refuses to celebrate Christmas, saying it's just a day where 'the rich humiliate the poor.' It is a day when the little sons of the rich can show the gifts they received while the poor children only get a crumb,’ he said. ‘So it is a very sad day for anyone who sees things with the eyes that I see. Inri says he first experienced the 'revelation' that he was Christ during a religious fast in Santiago, Chile, in 1979. Since childhood he had been following a powerful voice that 'speaks in his head' but it was only on this occasion that it told him: "I am your Father. The God of Abraham, of Isaac, and of Jacob." His church, the 'Soust' (Suprema Ordem Universal da Santmssima Trindade) is located on a lush farmland outside of Brasilia, the capital of Brazil, which he calls the 'New Jerusalem'. Him and his followers survive on fruits and vegetables. Critics have said Inri is mentally ill - an accusation he vehemently denies. I can be crazy but not dumb. Madness is different from dementia. It is the mother of philosophers, prophets and inventors. I'm sure there are several other 'Jesus-es' out there. For now, see more pics of the Brazilian Jesus. |

Sports / Mikel Obi Deserves 2013 CAF Player Of The Year Award - Stephen Keshi by infonubia(m): 5:40am On Jan 07, 2014 |
Nigeria Super Eagles coach Stephen Keshi said on Monday that Chelsea midfielder John Obi Mikel deserved to be named Africa's best player of 2013. Mikel is in the running for the Confederation of African Football (CAF) award with Ivorian stars Yaya Toure, of Manchester City, and Galatasaray striker Didier Drogba. The winner will be announced at a ceremony in Nigeria's financial capital, Lagos, on Thursday. "It (the CAF player of the year title) will boost the team and Mikel and all Nigerians because it has been a long time since we last won the award and I know we deserve to win this year," said Keshi. Midfielder Mikel played a big role in the tournament in South Africa in February and helped Chelsea win their first-ever Europa League trophy. He was also outstanding at the FIFA Confederations Cup in Brazil. Keshi, who steered the Super Eagles to their third African Cup of Nations (CAN) title in 2013 and qualification for this year's World Cup in Brazil, is also in the running for best coach. He is up against his compatriot Manu Garba, who took the country's under-17 side to World Cup glory, and Belgian coach Paul Put who guided Burkina Faso to the 2013 CAN final where they lost 1-0 against Keshi's Nigeria in Johannesburg. Nigerians Kadiri Ikhana and Okey Emordi have bagged the award previously after leading Enyimba to win the CAF Champions League in 2003 and 2004 respectively. Do you think Mikel should be the next African Player of the year? I think he's done very well this year. He also scored over the weekend after being handed the Chelsea captain band for the first time ever. http://www.infonubia.com/2014/01/mikel-obi-deserves-2013-caf-player-of.html |
Crime / Acid Attack Victim Naomi Oni Was Allegedly Attacked By A Jealous Friend by infonubia(m): 4:57am On Jan 07, 2014 |
I'm almost certain some of you heard about the horrible acid attack incident in London back in December 2012 when an attacker wearing a Hijab Niqab veil doused 21-year-old Naomi Oni with concentrated sulfuric acid close to her home in Lodge Avenue, Dagenham in the earlier hours of December 30 2012. Naomi was hospitalized for a month and was left scarred for life as she suffered serious burns on her face and chest, lost her hair and eyelashes. The attacker has been identified as 21-year-old Mary Konye, one of Naomi's friend who was jealous of her good looks. Mary Konye stalked shop assistant Naomi Oni as she made her way home from her work at Victoria’s Secret lingerie store in Westfield Stratford City, it was alleged. Opening the trial at Snaresbrook Crown Court, prosecutor Gareth Patterson told jurors how Naomi was on the phone with her boyfriend when the attack happened. “She screamed and felt her face burning. She could smell her skin and hair burning and immediately started running home. Her mother opened the door and found her daughter screaming hysterically.” He said the pair, who had known each other since school, frequently argued and fell out when Naomi called University of Hertfordshire business and finance student Konye ugly. Mr Patterson said CCTV footage of Naomi leaving work at around 11.30pm showed a veiled figure following her from Stratford station. “The evidence makes it clear that the person who disguised themselves by wearing the veil and following Naomi was the defendant, Mary Konye,” said Mr Patterson. “In the past they had had an up and down relationship. The defendant in particular on one occasion had threatened in anger to throw acid at Naomi.” Konye, of Throckmorton Road, Canning Town, denied being jealous of her friend’s looks and said she had no idea who had thrown the acid over her. She denies applying corrosive fluid with intent to disfigure, maim or cause grievous bodily harm. The trial continues tomorrow. http://www.infonubia.com/2014/01/acid-attack-victim-naomi-oni-was.html |
Foreign Affairs / Story About North Korean Leader Feedin His Uncle To A Pack Of Dogs Was Fake by infonubia(m): 10:51pm On Jan 06, 2014 |
According to an article on BBC, the Hong Kong-based newspaper Wen Wei Po story about North Korean leader Kim Jong-Un killing his uncle Jan Song Thaek and his five closest aides by feeding them to 120 hungry dogs, never happened. Apparently, it was fabricated by a blogger imposter who called himself Choi Seongho and claiming to be a North Korean newspaper editor studying in China. The real Choi Seongho, who is popular and recognized as a reporter, told BBC about the imposter who made all that story up. Funny enough, lots of major news sites (Washington Post, Daily Mail, Newyork Times, and other big boys in media) and InfoNubia reported the story. Here's the BBC article titled "A cautionary tale of dogs, imposters and North Korea Written by John Sudworth for BBC News: An anonymous blogger is a tenuous enough source for a news story. Crime / Human Body Parts Fall From The Sky In Saudi Arabia by infonubia(m): 9:26pm On Jan 06, 2014 |
Residents of Saudi Arabia’s Jeddah were shocked to see human body parts suddenly falling from the night sky. Police say they may be the remains of a man who stowed away in an airplane's wheel bay. According to reports, the shocked residents called officers after human remains landed in the road in the Mushrefa neighborhood of the city at 2.30am on Sunday. Early indications suggest the body parts belong to a man stowed away in a passenger jet’s wheel bay, police spokesman Nawaf bin Naser al-Bouq said. The incident comes after a Saudi plane was forced to make an emergency landing in the city of Medina, injuring 29 people. However, a spokesman for the General Authority of Civil Aviation said there was no connection between the emergency grounding and the Jeddah incident. The Saudi Arabian Airlines aircraft had been traveling to Iran’s second city of Mashhad and had 315 people on board when it was forced to land suddenly. Cases have been documented in the past of people - in a desperate attempt to cross borders - climbing into the landing gear of a plane before takeoff. Few survive the freezing temperatures when the plane is in the air. In 2010, the head of Beirut’s airport security resigned after the death of a man who managed to hide in the undercarriage of a jet. His body was discovered after the plane landed in Riyadh, in Saudi Arabia. In April last year Jose Matada fell out of a British Airways flight from Angola as it made its way into Heathrow Airport after stowing away in the plane’s landing gear. Source |

Naija, we nor dey carry last! The next time someone asks about your accent, tell them it's the fifth sexiest accent in the world! Well, that's according to a 2012 CNN article (I bet it hasn't changed much). According to the article, it is estimated that there are about 7000 languages on earth. This mean there are about 7000 different ways to speak the English language with an accent. Before I list the 12 sexiest accent, I noticed that people no longer say "you have an accent." It seem like we are moving with the times. In this era of political correctness, what you hear is "I love your accent, where is it from?" Abi I lie? Or is it just a Texas thing? I know my New York people don't play; they shoot straight. I'm not sure if that's the case over there. Also, Canadians can't tell an accent. The diverse culture in that county makes everyone sound alike eh? Lol...just kidding. Anyways, back to the matter. Here's the list of the top 12 sexiest accent in the world (in descending order). - Agrentine - Thai - Trinidadian - Brazilian Portuguese - US Southern (Reference - y'all) - Oxford British - Irish - Nigerian (more on this after the list) - Czech - Spanish - French - Italian Here's what the author wrote about the Nigerian accent: Dignified, with just a hint of willful naiveté, the deep, rich “oh’s” and “eh’s” of Naija bend the English language without breaking it, arousing tremors in places other languages can’t reach. Kinda makes the occasional phone scam worth the swindle. Now, that's hilarious! I think the Nigerian accent varies depending on what part of the country one grew up in. An Igbo person usually sound different from a Yoruba or Hausa. Same can be said of the other tribes. Which of the Nigerian tribes speak the most fluent English? If you have a well educated, Igbo, Yoruba, and Hausa person, who do you think speaks the most fluent English? In my experience, I'd say the Hausa man speaks better that others. I think it has to do with the Hausa/Fulani language; it's not as heavy as Yoruba or Igbo. What do you think? Let me know if you agree or disagree. http://www.infonubia.com/2014/01/nigeria-has-5th-sexiest-accent-in-world.html |

Politics / Nigerian Judiciary To Spend N181.3 Million On Clothing In 2014? by infonubia(m): 9:29pm On Jan 02, 2014 |
Going by reports from Punch newspaper, the Nigerian Federal Ministry of Justice Headquarters will spend the sum of N181.3m on "uniforms and other clothing" in 2014, according to the budget estimates submitted to the National Assembly by Minister of Finance, Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala. Please tell me, what are they wearing that costs so much? To put it in perspective, the ministry of justice is set to spend $1.15 Million on wears. And what in the world is "other clothing"? I'm not sure what the 2013 budget was but I think this is a little too much. This N181.3 million is a fraction of the total N4.7 billion allocated to the Federal Ministry of Justice Headquarters in the 2014 budget. Here is a further breakdown of the budget. Feel free to question any part of it like the N371 allocated for "materials and supplies (general)." The ministry is to spend the sum of N1.3bn on legal services in the New Year, while N1.4bn is allocated for consulting and professional services. Travels, including local and foreign trips, formed a substantial part of the ministry’s proposed budget. The sum of N362.6m has been budgeted for travels and transport (general). Local travel and transport (training) and local travel and transport (others) will cost N76.7m and N142.3m, respectively. In the same vein, international travel and transport (training), and international travel and transport (others), will cost N34.9m and N108.5m respectively. The sum of N371.7m was budgeted for materials and supplies (general). Also, the sum of N59.4m was set aside for foreign grants and contributions, as well as grants to foreign international organizations. The proposed budget suggests that the Federal Ministry of Justice Headquarters intends to upgrade its security system as the purchase of security equipment as well as improvement of ministry security system would cost N40m, respectively. The same N40m is equally budgeted for the rehabilitation and repair of office buildings, while the sum of N19.8m is provided for maintenance of office building and residential quarters. Other sums allocated for maintenance works include N9.9m for maintenance of plants/generators; N27.7m for cleaning/fumigation services; and N59.1m for general maintenance of motor vehicle/transport equipment. The proposed budget also reveals that the Federal Ministry of Justice Headquarters will spend the sum of N55.8m on fuel and lubricants. Motor vehicle fuel will cost the sum of N24.7m, while plant/generator fuel costs the sum of N28.3m. N7.8m is provided for refreshment and meals. Also, the sum of N56.9m is earmarked for a baseline survey of justice institutions, while the sum of N16.5m is budgeted for ICT consulting. The proposed budget further shows that the ministry budgets the sum of N37.2m for utilities (general). Electricity charges will cost N31.5m, water rates 904,016, while sewerage charges will take the sum of N4.8m while the ministry will spend the sum of N14.6m on printing of security documents.
