Foreign Affairs / Bullet Hits Florida Man In The Head And Bounces Off by infonubia(m): 8:40pm On Dec 18, 2013 |
62-year-old Walter Santiago was returning from the middle school where he had picked up his ill grand-daughter when something the window on the driver side and hit him on the head. It was a bullet! Pasco County Sheriff's Office in Florida noted that the shot was most likely fired with a high-caliber handgun from a long range when it struck Santiago right above his left temple. "Fortunately for me the bullet was losing velocity when it hit me," Santiago said. "I feel very fortunate and very angry that this happened." He was given six stitches after this mishap. Santiago told reporters that he's lived in several cities in the United States and Puerto Rico, but he's never experience something like this. More importantly, he doesn't have any enemy that he knows about. Authorities agreed. They believe Santiago was not a target. "It really is a case of unbelievable luck on the part of the driver," said Pasco County Sheriff's Office spokesman Doug Tobin. "He's very lucky. Depending on where it hits him, it could kill him." What does Santiago think about all this? "Just someone being stupid. I don't think careless is the word. Just stupid and ignorant. I certainly hope they catch somebody." You can call it luck, chance, angel, or superman...I think it's nothing short of a miracle. What say you? http://www.infonubia.com/2013/12/bullet-hits-florida-man-in-head-and.html |
Health / Common Health-related Bad Habits And How To Overcome Them by infonubia(m): 8:09pm On Dec 18, 2013 |
Let's talk about some common bad habits. Shall we? Apart from obvious things such as burps and passing gas, which should not be done in public (yes, you're welcome to torment your family and friends with them), there are certain not-so-obvious habits that are hard to break, but socially unacceptable. Different times in our lives, we may have engaged in these bad habits. Unfortunately, it's not only children who have been caught, adults are common culprits as well. Among others, Biting your cheeks, Picking your skin, Biting your cheeks, and Sucking your fingers are bad habits that people do subconsciously at times. You may ask, 'Well, what's wrong with it?" My answer is: a lot of things! These habits make others around you uncomfortable, and they are detrimental to your health. Biting Cheeks According to a NYC Cosmetic Dentist, Thomas Connelly, "I see a lot of cheek biting. Some cases are simply accidental, some cases are chronic, yet have easily remedied medical reasons, and some are physiological in nature." Cause: Biting your cheeks is harmful it leaves a sore, and mouth sores are never fun. It's also linked to teeth misalignment and oral cancer - when it's done sporadically, i.e. out of control. Nevertheless, the most common cause is habit. Skin Peeling Skin picking is also known as Onychopagia. This condition may not sound really serious, but when you see your Dermatologist, you'll realize how significant it is. Skin-pickers tend to have blemishes on their faces and bodies; at times, there are scabs also known as Acne Excoria - a self-inflicted skin disorder that looks just like acne. Skin-pickers open and pick at the smallest pimple or blemish with their fingers, needles, tweezers, or other instruments. Cause: this habit tend to happen usually when you are in two modes: (1) automatically, like in a trance or engaged in activity such: reading or watching TV where they are not really thinking ; (2)it also happens deliberately. Nail Biting This is not the same as the small little biting of rough nails or cuticle that most people do occasionally. These biters repeatedly bite their nails past the nail bed and cuticles until they bleed or sore. Look at your fingers, if your cuticles are rough and nails are jagged from your bites, then you're a nail biter. Cause: Biting seems to deliver a pleasurable or relaxed feeling. Medical experts believe that when people feel stressed, Nail-biters get a "soothing effect on their nervous systems. It probably accounts for why so many people who dislike ding them find it so hard to stop. It simply feels good at the time, no matter what the consequences. Treatment These are stubborn problems for two reasons. First, you have probably rehearsed the unwanted behaviors hundreds or even thousands of times. It is important to accept that they will not simply be overcome in a few days or weeks. Second, you are fighting the fact that they feel good to do, and provide much short range satisfaction and soothing. It takes time and a good deal of effort to master, but I believe it is worth it. For chronic "nervous habit" cheek biters, the solution may need some kind of substitute or "training" to eliminate the habit. For example, sugarless gum is something that can help. Or, if you are biting your lip, perhaps lip gloss/lip balm, which at least will make you "realize" what you are doing. Pay attention to when you bite your cheeks, and open your mouth. It makes you conscious of it, and the number of times you bite decreases. Also, "5 Seconds-Bite Treatment" is available in Walgreens and other pharmacy, You can request shipping too. Even if you have more than one of these problems, don't despair. They can be overcome if you have the motivation. More important is learning to "de-stigmatize" yourself. You are not crazy, helpless, morally weak or totally out of control, even though you may feel like some or all of these things at times. Once you get down to realizing that you are just a person with a problem you can start to make some serious progress. There isn't a 'cure', but you can find a recovery if you work at it. Overall, any bad habit can be overcome by picking up a new and related good habit. Research shows that it takes 21 days to overcome a bad habit. Rather than settle with these habits, be determined to eliminate them, and you'll not only feel healthier and BE healthier! Politics / Re: Who Wrote 'Iyabo Obasanjo's Open Letter' To Her Father? by infonubia(m): 8:04pm On Dec 18, 2013 |
Jarus: My own reading of the situation is this: Iyabo shared his dissatisfaction with his father with someone (maybe a confidante) and that one went ahead, obviously not at the behest of Iyabo, to write the letter to stir controversy or sold the information to anti-Obj elements. 2 things informed this my line of thought: 1, The facts revealed in the letter are too detailed to be guess work; 2, Osoba's confirmation. Good observation Jarus. The letter is too detailed to be cooked up by some outsider. |

Just read about Olusegun Osoba's confirmation that he met Iyabo Obasanjo during his trip to the United States in September 2013 and she expressed some of the concerns in the letter. Until Iyabo makes an official statement, it's just a hearsay. |

Sloan: If she is not, she should sue the Vanguard and make them prove that she wrote it. Her handwritten signature, delivery method if by email can be checked by MX records, if by hand it would have been couriered. Did they see her or did she come to their office? People would have seen her and their should be some CCTV cameras that captured her video while in their office. Why did only Vanguard publish it, who is in Vanguard that has either strong ties to Iyabo, OBJ or the GEJ government? Whose interest does the letter protect? Who has anything to gain from this letter? These are pointers to how to fish out those behind the letter. I think other media houses are skeptical about publishing it because they can't validate the authenticity of the letter. |

It just got messier! The 11-page open letter to ex president Olusegun Obasanjo, purportedly written by his daughter, Senator Iyabo Obasanjo, is shrouded in controversy. While other reports have emerged claiming that Senator Obasanjo has denied writing the letter, Vanguard Newspaper, the media house that claimed to have exclusively obtained the letter, hold firm to their side of the story. Premium Times reports that members of the Obasanjo family have stated that Mrs. Obasanjo-Bello had nothing to do with the letter and alleged that presidency officials forged the letter as a way of getting back at Mr. Obasanjo over his acerbic letter to President Goodluck Ebele Jonathan. Popular Television station, Africa Independent Television (AIT) also weighed in on the issue, denying the letter with this statement: The letter was allegedly written in response to the 18-page letter written by the retired General criticizing the present Jonathan-led administration. In all these allegations and counter-allegations, there's yet to be an official statement from Senator Iyabo Obasanjo confirming or denying the authenticity of letter (although, there are unsubstantiated claims that she called in to Rainbow FM, a radio station in Ogun State, to deny the letter). The question is - who wrote the letter? Former presidential aspirant and Ovation Magazine CEO puts it best with this tweet: If you haven't read the letter, you can find it here. Foreign Affairs / Viral Video: Most Beautiful And Shocking Tribute To Mandela by infonubia(m): 2:34am On Dec 18, 2013 |
Music is universally beautiful. You don't have to understand the language to appreciate it. The Soweto Gospel Choir and Woolies paid their tribute to Mandiba (Mandela) by rendering a gentle flash mob style the song that was written while Mandela was incarcerated in 1962. Mandela served 27 years in prison. This song is a call for freedom. Watch the video below. Here are the words and meaning: Asimbonanga [we have not seen him] Asimbonang' uMandela thina [we have not seen Mandela] Laph'ekhona [in the place where he is] Laph'ehleli khona [in the place where he is kept] Asimbonanga Asimbonang 'umfowethu thina [we have not seen our brother] Laph'ekhona [in the place where he is] Laph'wafela khona [in the place where he died] Sithi: Hey, wena [We say: hey, you] Hey, wena nawe [Hey, you and you] Siyofika nini la' siyakhona [when will we arrive at our destination] https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MHHjP7XrBq0 Source - http://www.infonubia.com/2013/12/most-beautiful-and-shocking-tribute-to.html 1 Like |

Health / Doctors Performed C-section On 41-week Pregnant Woman But Found No Baby by infonubia(m): 8:45pm On Dec 17, 2013 |
The 37-year old woman from Southeast Brazil had received prenatal treatment and assistance from several midwives. While she was 41-week pregnant, she was rushed to the hospital because she felt 'labor' pains. According to the hospital's director, Rosalice Almeida, the doctors did not find the baby's heartbeat, and they rushed her to the operating room to perform a cesarean section (c-section). To their shock, after the emergency surgery, there was no baby. Her womb was empty. Her 23-year-old husband told reporters that this was her second 'pregnancy' without a real baby. The first pregnancy, she claimed that the baby died in the hospital, but she had no death certificate. Her case was ruled out as psychological and she was referred to psychiatric care. Could this be real? Perhaps, you're still in doubt. Well, there was a similar case in Brazil last year December. 19-year-old Layane Santos proved that she was pregnant. The nurses recorded the growing size of her baby, 7lbs and 42cm. They even confirmed it was a baby girl. Her 28-year-old husband, Lourival Alves, had moved to a bigger house and spent money on baby stuff. After complaining about abdominal pain and blood loss, the doctors performed an emergency c-section and found no baby. She accussed the maternity hospital in Sao Paulo, southeast of Brazil of stealing her baby. Even her kitchen assistant, Ultimo Segundo, Ms. Santos's kitchen assistant was a witness of the ultra-sound scans. According to Brazil's Tribunal Hoje newspaper, Santos received prenatal treatment, yet there was no baby in her womb either. Since the scans confirmed the gender, surely, there's a baby, right? Her case was also dismissed as psychological. So what's the deal? Before you get very spiritual, let's ask, "Is false pregnancy real?" According to medical experts, there is a medical condition called Pseudocyesis, also known as phantom (false) pregnancy. A woman with this condition experiences the usual pregnancy symptoms, including nausea, vomiting, breast enlargement, weight gain, and bigger stomach - i.e. abdominal extension.Although the urine sample shows a negative result for pregnancy, the woman will continue to insist she is pregnant, making the job of her midwife extremely difficult. Cause: Pseudocyesis is more common in women who are in their late 30s or 40s or women who are desperately seeking to have a baby after trying for a long time. Pseudocyesis has also been attributed to a temporary hormonal imbalance which causes an emotional reaction, especially when a woman have lost a pregnancy or a baby. Treatment: women who are suffering from this condition need sympathy, family support, and the support of their partners. I would like to know what you guys think about this issue? http://www.infonubia.com/2013/12/doctor-performed-c-section-on-41-week.html |
Jokes Etc / Why Send A Christmas Card When You Can Do A Funny Christmas Video? by infonubia(m): 7:18pm On Dec 17, 2013 |
Why send a Christmas card when you can do a Christmas video for your family and friends? This is an awesome video - very funny too! Foreign Affairs / Hundreds Of African Migrants Protest In Jerusalem by infonubia(m): 6:59pm On Dec 17, 2013 |
Approximately 282 African immigrants (inmates) who were held at the Holot detention facility in Israel marched towards Beersheva, about 30 miles away. They refused to return to the detention center during their usual lock-down and stayed overnight at the central bus station, a spokeswoman for Israel Prisons Service reported. Israeli authorities broke up the protest that was held outside the parliament building today arresting about 10 African migrants who joined the protest against the detention policy. The policy allows authorities to detain illegal migrants for a year without trial. "We're talking about people who have nothing to lose," said Michal Rotem, an Israeli activist who took part in the march. "This is their last chance to come and say... we want our freedom." The protesters held signs: "Refugees, Not Criminals" and "Walk for Freedom and Humanity." There is no written report about what goes on in the detention facility of south Israel, but it must be really bad - if these African migrants want to be treated as refugees. Israel is still working on reducing the number of Africans who enter its land illegally. However, it should note that these people would not be running away from green pastures. They seek a better and safer life. Unfortunately, right now, they seem to be running into the hands of a country that treat them as 'criminals' - protesters noted. One of the migrants, 29-year old Brahani Beraki from Eritrea said "We come here to ask for protection. We don't want to go back to our country," said Brahani Beraki, a 29-year-old from Eritrea, whose government is widely accused of torture, restrictions on freedom of expression and other human rights violations. "Our country is a bad situation ... We need to save our life here." Police spokesman Micky Rosenfeld said some 180 people have been detained. He said they were expected to be returned to detention facilities in the southern desert. No injuries were reported. "Just as we are determined to protect our borders, we're determined to enforce the law," Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu said Tuesday. "The infiltrators who were transferred to the special detention facility can either stay there or go back to their home countries. Currently, Israel has approximately 53,000 Africans - mostly Ethiopians and Sudanese. I won't be surprised if Nigerians are there too. Officials said the protesters are likely to be arrested for not returning to the Holot centre within 48 hours. I think it's unfair to detain migrants for one whole year without trial. What do you think? http://www.infonubia.com/2013/12/hundreds-of-african-migrants-protest-in.html |

Crime / Carjackers Gunned Down Christmas Shopper In Front Of His Wife At New Jersey Mall by infonubia(m): 6:38pm On Dec 16, 2013 |
Tragedy struck at an upscale New Jersey mall on Sunday night when a 30-year-old New Jersey man died after being shot in the head during a violent carjacking. According to reports, Dustin Friedland, a 30-year-old patent attorney from Hoboken, New Jersey, was returning with his wife Jamie to their Range Rover in the car park at The Mall At Short Hills when two men approached them, fired shots and fled in the 2012 vehicle. The shooting occurred at about 9:10 p.m. and Friedland was pronounced dead at 11:45 p.m after being rushed to the hospital. His wife was unharmed, although she was taken to a hospital for evaluation. Panicked authorities briefly placed the mall on lock-down, which lasted for 30 minutes. Some shoppers could even hear the terrifying ordeal as it occurred on the garage’s third floor near Nordstrom. The couple's car was recovered in Newark on this Monday morning and police are still looking for the two carjackers. It's so unfortunate that this happened. Life can change in a split second. Make sure the people you love know it. Do you think if Friedland had a gun, he would have been able to protect himself? New Jersey does have some gun restrictions. http://www.infonubia.com/2013/12/carjackers-gunned-down-christmas.html |

Rivers State Governor, Rotimi Amaechi says the reason that political office holders steal state funds is because citizens have never confronted or stoned them (including himself) for the act. At a tribute event for Nelson Mandela in Lagos, Mr. Amaechi said Nigerians have not shown enough aggression or resistance against stealing by political office holders. Read some of what he said: If you see a thief and you allow him to be stealing, what have you done? You have stoned nobody; that is why we are stealing. Who have you stoned? They came out and started dancing oil subsidy, oil subsidy. They told you that they stole N2.3trn, what did you do? Watch the video courtesy of Sahara TV. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ug0ifwslG84 What do you think about what Governor Amaechi said? I think he made some good point. For the second year in a row, a Denham Springs, Louisiana woman added fuel to a festive feud by arranging her Christmas lights in the shape of two huge middle fingers. Sarah Childs decided to flip the bird at her entire neighborhood by setting up the offensive display on the roof of her house. This year, she is doubling the impact of her holiday by putting two "birds" up on the house-top, sending a message to her neighbors that she's had a longstanding issue with. She shot to notoriety last Christmas by going to court to fight for her right have the controversial decorations on her roof after police threatened to arrest her. She successfully sued, winning the right to offend neighbors in her uniquely festive fashion. But shortly after putting the lights up for a second year, Childs says someone climbed on her roof, cut the display into little pieces and dumped it on her front lawn. Undeterred, Childs decided to vent her rage by doubling the display - and put a pair of illuminated fingers up on her roof. "They went on my roof, cut them all up, cut everything up." Childs told local newspaper The Advocate. "They did the firing shot. It's on." Talk about having disgruntled neighbors. http://www.infonubia.com/2013/12/woman-puts-up-middle-finger-christmas.html |
