beebop: I'm a black female who's had flatmates of a variety of races.

Worst ever flatmate was another black girl. If I ever got murdered by anyone, it would be her.

Second worst were a pair of North African sisters. Filthy goats, both of them.

Favorite ever flatmate was a white European guy. We got along very well, lived our lives separately but we both were very clean in shared spaces, could watch TV together on occasion and chat and have dinner and never ever quarreled.

Please stop generalizing and blaming the victim. She did not deserve to die. I repeat before some morons keep going on about how she should have been careful. She did nothing to warrant her death and could not have foretold it. She must have felt that he was a responsible person who could pay bills on time and she could get along with him then all the better for it.

I hope her family gains the fortitude to bear her loss and justice is served to the vile murderer.

You couldn't have said it any better!

Techwriter: Obviously they lived when US still had regard for God, when homosexuality was frowned at and people respected the sanctity of marriage. Now everything is upside down in trying to be wise they became foolish by rejecting the God of their fathers and removed God from their schools. The US is gradually becoming history, heavily immersed in debt and clamoring for recognition they went ahead to sign a peace agreement with Iran against Israel wish yesterday. This may be the last of America being the superpower, don't dare Israel, what is behind them is more than human

Meet John and Ann Betar. They are celebrating their 81st wedding anniversary today! They are the longest married couple in America and I would imagine that not a lot of couples around the world can beat their record.

Their advice on how they have stayed together for so long - just roll with the punches.

“If you think a little bit about what you’re doing, and if it’s wrong… we straighten it out, and if not we just try to go along with it,” said Ann Betar, 97, who is married to 101-year-old John Betar.

The Betars eloped on Nov. 25, 1932, after leaving to avoid Ann’s father’s plans to have her marry a man 20 years her senior. Ann was 17 and John was 21 at the time.

Now eight decades later, the couple lives in Fairfield, Connecticut, and has five children, 14 grandchildren and 16 great-grandchildren.

"Well, marriage isn't a lovey-dovey thing for 80 years. You learn to accept one another's ways of life, agreements, disagreements -- disagreements on our children, preparation on bringing up your kids,” Ann Betar said. “That was the main interest… was your children.”

Wow....this is a testimony to the fact that marriage works. You can make your marriage work. No one is perfect. It's those beautiful imperfections that make life interesting and worth living.

Congratulations to the Betars!

****UPDATE****

The story of 26-year-old Adaobi Michaella Obih's murder was posted in InfoNubia last week. At the time we reported that authorities were on a manhunt for the prime suspect in the killing, Ryan Allen Klug.

According to the police, Ryan Allen Klug was taken into custody in the Galveston, Texas on Saturday night.

The 36-year-old state highway engineer was apprehended by agents with the U.S. Marshals office in Texas, said Lt. Matt Myers, spokesman for the Columbus Police Department.

While this might be some kind of relief for Adaobi's loved ones, there wouldn't be any closure until justice is served. We hope the U.S. justice system will consider all the facts in this case as soon as possible and pronounce judgement on the accused.

It is really heartbreaking when you think about what could have become of this beautiful 26-year-old Ph.D student. Some psycho just cut her off before her prime.

May her soul continue to rest in peace (Amen)

Health / Male Infertility: Men With Damaged Y Chromosome Can Still Reproduce by infonubia(m): 9:52pm On Nov 23, 2013
Scientists have found a way to eliminate the Y chromosome and still produce 'maleness'. In other words, men can retain fertility even without their Y chromosome.

Let's go back to Genetics class. Females have XX chromosomes while males have XY chromosomes. That is why fathers' Y chromosome is needed to have a boy, given that mothers can only give X chromosome. "The Y chromosome is a symbol of maleness," lead researcher Professor Monika Ward told a BBC reporter.

Humans have one pair of their chromosomes that act as the sex chromosomes. Scientist have recently published their discovery in the Journal Science showing that "male mice can still father babies, but they need InVitro Fertilization (IVF). The purpose of their research is to help infertile men who have damaged Y chromosome.

The team at the University of Hawaii showed that genetically modified mice with a Y chromosome consisting of just two genes would develop normally and could even have babies of their own. Prof Ward commented: "These mice are normally infertile, but we show it is possible to get live offspring when the Y chromosome is limited to just two genes by using assisted reproduction."

Here is the summary of the research: The mice could only produce rudimentary sperm. But they could have offspring with the help of an advanced form of IVF, called Round Spermatid Injection, which involves injecting genetic information from the early sperm into an egg. The resulting pups were healthy and lived a normal lifespan.

So, reproduction is still possible! Dr Allan Pacey, a senior lecturer in Andrology at the University of Sheffield, said, "The experiments are elegant and seem to show that in the mouse sperm production can be achieved when only two genes from the Y-chromosomes are present. Whilst this is of limited use in understanding human fertility, this kind of work is important if we are to unravel to complexities of how genes control fertility."

Onegai: Well, in Nigeria, natural hair is trendy. The only issue I see is in styling it. I struggle to style my hair (I've never been good at it) and would prefer to pay a stylist. However, trust Nigerians, everyone sees money and has jumped on the bandwagon: one told me to style my natural hair without products or any attachment added, bring N4,000 (kind of like a wash and set which will last a month), another stylist told me "you only need to apply shea butter on the scalp, not on the hair", defying the proven results of women who need moisture, not oil, to grow our pretty dry hair.
I've taken to braiding my hair and threading it. I went to a village, got it threaded and oh, it was lovely. Came back to Lagos, got it threaded and I've been in pain for 4 days (the stylist was taking out her vex on my scalp), pouring water on my head, unable to leave the house.
I wish we had sensible people working as stylists, natural hair would be a breeze. www.naijapretty..com

I can only imagine what my beautiful black sistahs go through to make sure their hair is on point. I remember braiding and later twisting my hair back in 2006 (I wish I could find the some of the photos). Sitting for at least 3 hours for a braid wasn't fun at all.

A female reader sent this in and asked that I share with you. Ladies, she'd like to get your advise on how you rock your weaves without any issues.

Read and leave your comments....

If you have not seen the documentary 'Good Hair' by Chris Rock, make sure you grab a copy after reading this. Your eyes will be opened into the fascinating world of Black hair.

I have tried numerous hairstyles all through my life - perms, blow-outs, braids, dreadlocks, afros, cornrows, even various colors from blonde to red to streaks and highlights.

Some 14 years ago I chopped off all my hair and went natural, rebelling against relaxers or straighteners of any kind and I have not looked back since.

Looking to try something 'different' and seeing I had never done it before, I decided to try out a weave.

After 2 hours and $80 at my stylist I came out looking very nice and very different. Fast forward 4 days later at 11pm at night, I was in the bathroom taking it out, with my husband laughing by the door.

The problem? the itch! and because I have a lot of thick natural hair underneath, not enough air was getting to my scalp and it was just wicked uncomfortable.

I could have applied some products to help but seeing I have quite an active lifestyle working out and playing sports all the time, it was bound to get worse as I would sweat and not be able to air my thick nappy hair out.

So out the weave came and into the trashcan, and back to my comfy au naturel!

If you wear a weave, I'd like to know how you do it seeing I'm a rookie in that regard. I know the 'quality' of weaves are different ranging from $20 to thousands of dollars, the stylist skill matters, and your hair underneath as well - anything else important?

I do realize that for many black women especially in the workplace there is pressure to look a certain way and appear professional and hence we stick to a narrow range of styles.

As fussy as black hair is, it is also versatile and can be made into so many different styles, comfortable styles (emphasis on comfort), that does not result in pain, headaches, itching, laughing husbands and wasted $80. Needless to say, no mo' weaves for me smiley

The body of 26-year-old Adaobi Michaella Obih, an Electrical Engineering Ph.D student, was found on Tuesday Nov 19th at an apartment at Riverstone Apartments in Columbus, Indiana.

According to Fox News, Columbus police obtained an arrest warrant for a man wanted for murder.

They’re looking for 36-year-old Ryan Allen Klug, who they say is now the prime suspect in the murder of 26-year-old Adaobi M. Obih, who was found dead Tuesday in an apartment. Police initially said Klug was a “person of interest” in the case.

Columbus police don’t think Klug is still in the area and said multiple law enforcement agencies were looking for him.

Police were alerted to Obih’s death after she missed work Monday and Tuesday without notifying anyone. Concerned coworkers contacted her apartment complex to ask about her. Police also contacted the property manager to request a welfare check, according to the arrest affidavit.

A maintenance worked went to check on the woman and said, “It’s not good, there is blood everywhere” after going to Obih’s apartment.

A neighbor said he noticed that the door to Obih’s garage spot was open and had been open for at least 24 hours. Klug, who police described as Obih’s roommate, parked his vehicle there.

The maintenance worker told police there were no signs of forced entry at the apartment and that only two people would’ve had keys: Obih and Klug. The maintenance worker told police he found Obih with a “large amount of blood around her head” and said it appeared clear that she was dead.

Police talked to Obih’s boyfriend, who revealed that he’d texted and called her multiple times but never heard back. The last message he received from her was at 12:17 p.m. on Sunday, Nov. 17. When she failed to respond, he went to her apartment, saw her car in the parking lot and knocked on the door. Obih didn’t answer.

A neighbor who lives in the apartment below Obih’s said it sounded like someone was moving furniture during Sunday afternoon. “It went on for more than three minutes,” the neighbor said, adding that it happened shortly before tornado warnings went off for Sunday’s storms.

Police said Klug had texted a pastor asking him to call. When the pastor did so, Klug answered and said he couldn’t talk at the time.

Further investigation found that Obih had been stabbed multiple times and her throat cut. A blood trail went from the woman’s bedroom to Klug’s, and police said it appeared “the assailant attempted to clean up in the bathroom area belonging to Mr. Klug.” They also found a bloody towel in Klug’s sink. Police located a plastic bag containing a bloody sock and other clothes stained with blood, including blue jeans, boxers and a shirt. Police said the “amount of blood on these items was significant.”

Police found a trail of small blood drops leading from the apartment to the garage where Klug parked his vehicle. His 2008 silver Subaru Legacy was not parked in the garage.

Klug works for the Indiana Department of Transportation, and police contacted his supervisor, who told them Klug’s behavior had been “off” lately. He sent a text message Sunday saying, “sick tomorrow, then vacation next two weeks.” His supervisor said the message was out of character and also violated the department’s vacation time policy. Klug did not return texts or phone calls, his supervisor said. He didn’t show up at work Monday or Tuesday.

Klug’s stepmother and father said they hadn’t heard from him for several days.

His brother told police he’d spoken with Klug about two weeks ago. Klug wanted to get back with a girl he’d dated. The relationship ended about a year ago. His brother told Klug to call her; he said Klug discovered she was dating someone else and told him, “I’m losing control.”

This is really sad. May Adaobi's soul rest in peace.
