PoliticsRe: Police IG, Orders Dismantling Of All Police Roadblocks Nationwide by ini4brandon(m): 10:45pm On Sep 21, 2014
TrollMan: It's a hard Fact. Your roads ain't secured at all.
Taking the police check point away will only make things worse. Ain't you a Nigerian? You ought to know that. It's a Bad Move.
Im sure you are referring to the spate of armed robberies along our highways. However, in this modern era of telecommunications, our police don't need roadblocks to make the road safe. Road blocks even make the roads less secure because it makes our cops' location predictable( an armed robber on a mission, only needs to determine the checkpoint, then operate a safe distance from it).
If you ask me, Patrolling up and down the stretch of road is much more effective.

GentleMimi: USA denied Naija the ZMapp serum.
Our Nigerian patients (apart from the nurse) are still alive till now. What else can i say? The ''Balm Of Gilead'' is at work.. Prayers are going on for all of them by family and colleagues. I pray the Good Lord becomes our Zmapp.
Not only will he preserve them,he will make them whole. I pray they come out of this alive, and all organs intact and functioning perfectly. Is anything too difficult for God? No. We will do our best, the Lord will do beyond the best.
This should be a lesson to Naija government. Buckle up!
Pls always remember them in ur prayers. We shall overcome!

Jokes EtcRe: Nairaland 2013 Most Common Characters - Are You One? by ini4brandon(m): 5:27am On Dec 29, 2013
Na Laugh: Now 2013 is closing up shop, it's time to highlight the most prevalent character types of the year in the Nairaland community. smiley

1. The “First to Comment crew”.
This individual no dey ever catch head. He wanders the forum actively, in detective mode. He investigates what Mods are viewing each thread in order to narrow down his “front page material” threads. He goes on to leave this very useful comment right beneath the OP- “.” in hopes the thread makes frontpage, in which event he returns to drop either his long copy/paste “first to comment' shout outs, or “FTC tinz” and more gibberish.
His prognosis often includes his crap getting hidden or im go collect small ban.

2. The “What is this doing on Front page crew”
2013 saw the uprising of those who apparently perceive the home page of Nairaland as being equivalent to CNN or NTA. When a lighthearted or humorous thread hits the front page, they grab their picket signs and cutlasses and hit the streets (of Nairaland).
This guy needs to chill out. Life is not that serious. Nairaland to the best of my knowledge is neither a News nor political site. It is a “General” discussion forum, meaning “ANYTHING” that fits wholly or partially into the Nigerian context goes up for discussion.

3. The “PDP, APC, FASHOLA, ANTI-FASHOLA, GEJ, ANTI-GEJ crew”
There was a time when political debate was largely confined to the politics section. This was not the case in 2013, as even a thread with the topic
“Cute cats singing, while cute puppies dance and rainbows bow in the background”
will somehow attract comments on how the incompetence or competence of GEJ/FASHOLA has led to such singing and dancing by these cute furry friends of ours.
I tire for this crew.

4. The “Thread Bomber/Spammer”
This dude has no respect. He has never come across such words. He targets any thread with significant activity; it DOES NOT matter what the thread is about or discussing. All he knows is he has the secret to fish farming & snail farming and you are all to contact him IMMEDIATELY he pastes his advert on your thread, and walks away like a BOSS.
If I catch this guy ehn.. angry

5. The “my MB crew”
Alright, we know for those in Naija, internet access is still an issue, but abeg make una relax small. Any thread containing photos & video will definitely attract this crew to go:-
“ah! Na ur fada buy me MB?” or
“make una watch am tell me.. I no get MB to waste” or
”Sh*t!.. see as I waste my MB on this useless thread”.
no vex, your telecoms provider go soon do New year promo. wink

6. "Pics or it didn't happen crew"
These are the newest evolved characters. For every topic without a pic or video, they show up with this same response.
'pics or it didn't happen' or 'video or it didn't happen'. Needless to say, they are most prevalent in threads to do with the female anatomy.
Awon bad boys.

*honorary mention:
“THE GREAT GARRI CREW”: This crew was hyperactive prior to 2013, and roamed the lands VORACIOUSLY until early 2013, when the atmosphere created by mods became less conducive for their survival. Their wise words of “HOW DOES THIS AFFECT THE PRICE OF GARRI IN THE MARKET” were abound. Our evolutionary scientists at the NaLaugh research headquarters now have reason to believe, following extensive research and fossil records that this particular species evolved over time into the existing “What is this doing on Front page Crew”.
Abeg, add your own Common/prevalent/Annoying Nairaland characters of 2013. cool

European Football (EPL, UEFA, La Liga)Re: Kenyan Commits Suicide Over Manchester United Loss To Newcastle by ini4brandon(m): 12:06pm On Dec 11, 2013
dridowu: A Kenyan fan unable to cope with Manchester United's loss to Newcastle United committed suicide over the weekend, according to police.
John Macharia, 28, plunged to his death from a multi-storey apartment block in the capital, Nairobi.
This followed United's 1-0, their second home defeat in four days.
Newcastle's first win at Old Trafford since February 1972 means the reigning champions are now 13 points adrift of league leaders Arsenal.
"Macharia jumped from seventh floor of an apartment at Pipeline Estate after realising that his team Manchester United lost 1-0 to Newcastle at Old Trafford and committed suicide," said Nairobi's County Police Commander Benson Kibui.
Macharia's death is reminiscent of the suicide by a Kenyan Arsenal fan in 2009. Suleiman Omondi, 29, was found hanging in his flat after the Gunners were trounced 3-1 by Manchester United in the second leg of a Champions League semi-final.
Kibui urged football-obsessed Kenyan fans to support local teams rather than foreign clubs who do not have a link to the east African nation.
"The football fans should enjoy the matches... but they should not commit suicide since life is very precious," Kibui added.http://www.bbc.com/sport/0/football/25300429

Ntom: ...while some ignorant ones will say there is no God.
I hate it when we seem to base our belief in the existence of God on stories like this;
What about the rest of the crew that died? God hates them?
Why didn't god prevent the accident in the first place?

Telling the families of the deceased that Okene's survival was an 'Act of God' is faith weakening.
BTW I believe in The existence of the Almighty God.

naija noni: I agree with u.But i fear about the next U-20 coach.Favouritsm is something common among nigerian coaches.Sometimes, they ignore real talents and favour less-talented players they know.
A lot of great talents 4rm the 2007 worldcup like Oseni,Isah,Alfa,Mustapha Ibrahim,Christantus and many more were suppose to graduate to d U-20's and represent nigeria at d 2009 worldcup. But Coach Ladan Bosso dropped many of these players and went for less-talented ones with only a few like Haruna lukman,Rabiu,Osanga,Ajiboye e.t.c 4rm the 2007 U/17 team. And nigeria failed woefully. If a new coach is appointed 4 d U/20s,I bet many of these talented players would be dropped and wouldnt play at d 2015 U/20 worldcup. So my advice 4 d NFF is dey should appoint one of d assistants to Manu Garba, most preferably Amunike as U/20 coach,so that he would carry all these boys along to d U/20s.In doing dat none of these great talents would be lost.
While Manu Garba remains the U/17 coach and scout for a new set of truely young U/17s.I bet it would be hard to find a really honest coach like Garba, that would use real U/17s.That's why i said only one of his assistants(Amunike) should be appointed as U/20 coach, while garba and the rest remain with the U/17 for at least the next 6 or even 8 years and continue their good job of scouting for truely young talents.
