LiteratureRe: Adichie Focuses On Nigeria's Present For Novel by Inik(m): 1:37pm On May 03, 2013
One of Nigeria"s best emerging writers. The problem i have with her and other Nigerian writers in the diaspora is that they tend to focus mostly on the bad side of the country in their writings. They are all seated on their high horses in the west and look down scornfully on our society. They should use their novels to project a good image to the outside world like Achebe did in Things fall apart. I am waiting for one of them to write a novel devoid of negative sentiments.
I'll definitely be looking forward to reading "Americanah".

Poems For ReviewRe: Charmed! by Inik(m): 1:33pm On May 03, 2013
Nice piece. When i read the title of this thread i thought it was all about a nairalander declaring his love for Shugamania cheesy. . Nigerians do not really appreciate poetry as a genre of literature, we place much emphasis on drama and prose.

CelebritiesRe: 2face To Tour Schools To Inspire Students by Inik(m): 10:47pm On May 02, 2013
sholay2011: As much as this is not a bad idea, I don't see it as a good one either.

An economy should always find its balance and ensure youths are productive in a way that drives the country forward.

At this stage of Naija, youths are overexposed to the arts and every tom, dick and harry claim he/she can sing or act or just shake bombom for lewd-lyricd musical videos.

Talent shows range from 'Nigerian Idols', 'Project Fame', 'Gulder Ultimate Search' nd d least meaningful- 'Big brother Africa'. While these shows help us spot young talents, the good is for an individual, not the nation's GDP.lol.

But when scientific inventions, discoveries are given space to breathe, it has an impact on the economy when harnessed. So, we also need TV shows that focus on these aspects.

China may not have an outstanding 'chinawood' (as in Nigeria for Nollywood), dia musicians may not be winning MTV awards up nd down, but they are a threat to USA already in becoming world power.

In a nutshell, I hope I have convinced and not confused you that- 2face is a wrong choice to go inspire secondary school students. They already have enof inspiratn from the various musical talent shows that grace our TV screens.
You are so on point. The only inspiration tuface can give these undergraduates is for them to pursue music as a career. We are gradually becoming saturated with music acts. Everyday a new artist springs up somewhere, come out with a song with lewd lyrics and danceable beat, makes money, becomes popular and every young person sees it and wants to be like them.

We need creative minds in this country, we need inventors, we need designers, we need stategists, we need an industrial/technological revolution! We need young male & female enterpeneurs.

If your talent is in the arts especially singing, make sure you create a style that stands out and make music that can stand the test of time not the present noisy crap that is being released daily by our artists.

PoliticsRe: Nigeria Has No Reason To Be Poor — EU by Inik(m): 6:03pm On May 02, 2013
Nigeria truely has no business being poor! The country has enormous resources and is super wealthy but the wealth is concentrated in the hands of a few elites with nothing trickling down to the poor masses.

The military regimes really bastardized this country. They stole trillions and stashed the loots overseas, they destroyed government institutions, institutionalized corruption, introduced tribalism and nepotism. They celebrated mediocrity, crooks were appointed to head sensitive positions. If we had leaders who had the welfare of the country at heart, Nigeria will have been a far better place than it is now.

Goodluck Jonathan is doing his best to move Nigeria in the right path to greatness. My only concern is that he is not doing much in fighting corruption. However it is not possible to reverse all the ills of the past in four years. Slowly and surely we will get there.
PoliticsRe: Home Make Over For Negelected Nigerian Flag Designer, Taiwo Akinkunmi. PICS by Inik(m): 5:44pm On May 02, 2013
Afam4eva: I've always asked myself this questio: what's so difficult in coming up with a green, white and green flag? I mean it's green and white.
It really does not take anything to design a green white green flag. However this case has to do with national sentiments, the flag was one of our first national symbols after independence. The designer of such a national symbol ought to be fully compensated one way or the other by the federal government.
BusinessRe: These Products Sell Without Advert:: How? by Inik(m): 5:36pm On May 02, 2013
[quote author=Okija_juju]1. Monopoly

2. Price (decent & cheap) + its now a generic name thanks to once having monopoly.

3. Price.. Cheaper than other insecticide brands. (Plus Rambo has adverts)

4. Necessity.

5. They do advertise. That's why you see the sign in front of their shops 'Food is ready', '404 is ready', 'Iya Basira food spot', etc. Advertisements don't always have to be on TV, radio or Newspapers.

6. Necessity, price and its a staple food.

7. Sony has ads.. A shitload of them.

PoliticsRe: Buhari Ready To Step-Down For Better Candidate by Inik(m): 5:22pm On May 02, 2013
The old bigot Buhari will definitely contest the 2015 presidential elections but i can assure you all that he will never never step his foot into Aso rock as an elected president of the federal republic of Nigeria. The blood thirsty man with a 'born to rule' messianic syndrome will continue to taste defeat after defeat in the polls. I can't wait to see him scurry away to his cave in Katsina with his tails between his legs after losing massively in 2015.

Mods can you please ban or hide the posts of that General buhari character, he is spamming this thread. We are in a democracy and those pictures of the military coupist are distasteful to us democratic minds smiley

SportsIs Football A Religion? by Inik(op): 4:40pm On May 02, 2013
I was discussing with some friends on this issue and they were of the opinion that football is a universal religion due to the passion people put into the sport.

Looking at it we can see that:

Fifa is the governing council of football religion

Sepp blatter is the current Chief priest

Football clubs and national teams are the different denominations and branches

The team coaches and managers are the Head pastors

The players are the ministers

The fans are the worshippers

Football stadia, viewing centers and individual homes are the worship centers

Wednesdays, Saturdays and sundays are the official worship days.

Football brings joy, happiness, satisfaction to many people, it also brings anger, pain and sorrow.

Do you agree with this theory?

FamilyRe: Should Parents Tell Their Kids How Much They Earn?? by Inik(m): 3:37pm On May 02, 2013
If you are a low income earner and your kids are demanding for the latest gadgets, clothes and other outlandish things, you can tell them how much you earn and even show them your bank balance. They will understand that you can't afford those things and their requests will die down.
RomanceRe: 10 Foolish Things To Avoid On Facebook. by Inik(m): 3:30pm On May 02, 2013
Facebook used to be the ish but not anymore now. These days i only go on facebook to chat with friends and to post links.

11. Stop posting random pictures on your timeline. People post too many pictures on facebook these days, you go to a friend's timeline and you find it cluttered with all sorts of pictures. We are not really interested in seeing pictures of you taking a shit in the toilet, pictures of you sleeping etc. There is instagram to take care of that.
