Politics / Re: The Best President Nigeria Never Had by initiator(m): 12:56am On Jul 01, 2007
We've never been lucky with presidents but if u ask me among the two i'd say awolowo but the man was a tribalist. For more contemporary times, i'd choose duke as naijacutee said. And for KokoA, lol what's Asari doing on that list? Lol
Politics / Re: Why On Earth Is Ibb Not In Jail by initiator(m): 12:45am On Jul 01, 2007
For anyone to ask for evidence to prosecute IBB thats the highest form of casuistry. Did anybody provide evidence for the trial of Alams or fayose? What about the okigbo report and oil windfall.

And for Big B1 am beginning to suspect what MAMAJAMA said about you is true. I mean, u said IBB is a STATESMAN? I felt like puking when i read that. Infact u spoilt my weekend ay saying that!

Well its ok for some folk to defend ibb for whatever interest or reason they advance but deep deep within every sincere and intelligent nigerian knows that ibb did us way more harm than good.

Should ibb be in jail? Yes (if we were in a western democracy and the country was actually serious about fighting corruption).

But would IBB ACTUALLY be prosecuted? No because in most parts we're a third world. During ibb's 8 years he built a web of cronies and loyalists that still pay allegience to him and control most parts of the political space.
Culture / Re: Africa As Seen On TV In The US by initiator(m): 3:14am On Jun 30, 2007
Did any of you watch the idols give back show? It would make any african feel depressed. Kai! They made it look like we all doomed.

Politics / Re: First Telecommunications, Then Space Exploration And Now Banking by initiator(m): 8:06pm On Jun 29, 2007
Sorry i meant 1st mobile tv license.

SA ironicaly owes its succes to arpathied cos when it was closed to the outside world they had to source for practically everything internaly and necessity is the mother of invention. When aparthied was pulld down the world suddenly grew fascinated with with them and direct investment flowed.
Politics / Re: First Telecommunications, Then Space Exploration And Now Banking by initiator(m): 6:21pm On Jun 29, 2007
As much as i look foward to nigeria's burst, we must acknowledge that SA has africa in its hands. Lets do a little sector by sector analysis:

telecoms: SA coys have actually dominated. MTN an SA coy dominates nig mrkt with glo trailing. An SA coy recently bought majority stake in multilinks. The only majorly nig coy in the telecoms mrkt is glo. In quality SA actually has it with their 3G technology actually advanced while ours was licenced not too long ago. Last year SA licenced the 1st tv station in the continent. But our markt size is intimidating and would only grow in leaps. I foresee many fone assembly plants coming in soon.

In banking we started doing very well but compared to SA?, uhn uhn. Their ABSA alone can swallow UBA and 1 other of the 25. All the equity coys in sub saharan africa are in SA. Recently two SA coys bought $150m worth of shares in oceanic bank. Our banks are growing but interest rates are high. So the real sector cant grow with the banks. Its in the stock xchange that we're recording astronomical growth with figures that contest any in the world. This is cheery but the economy doesnt grow with a fat xchange. To grow @ 12% as soludo envisages there has to be a groundswell of construction, production and economic activity all over the country.
Politics / Re: Nigerian Invents Anti-Rigging Machine! by initiator(m): 2:05pm On Jun 29, 2007
@ wormedup the guy didnt say the machines would be shipped. He said it can be mass produced in nig.
Your cynicism is not misplaced for this is nigeria but we dont give up on the system, do we? Electoral reform encompasses constitutional review, electoral reform, THE SACK OF IWU and yes, full proof machines.
Politics / Re: Nigerian Invents Anti-Rigging Machine! by initiator(m): 12:52pm On Jun 29, 2007
A succesful election needs a blend of human and technical factors. At least this guy has profered a technical one. 1 good thing i see in the machine (@ least from what i read) is that it can store votes as long as possible. This is good cos the loss of materials/evidence is what is stalling the election tribunals presently. Perhaps his machine needs more constructive scrutiny so it can be better. Getting elections right is a wholistic thing - technology and people.

The fact that what yaradua has done is good and historic is a given. But someone said he declared N150m in 1999. Please show us the link or refer us to your source. Also the andy uba N1trillion issue (or hoax). I still dont believe it till i see a credible source. FACT IS SACRED

Nigeria has a tendency of creating "STRONG, MEAN MEN". Ibb, abacha, Obj, adedibu, I guess its a culture.
Technology Market / Re: 234World.com Portal by initiator(m): 1:13pm On Jun 28, 2007
Online biz have not made the big bang effect needed in naija for 1 main reason: poor communication strategy. U guys touting these commerce sites have to understand that for now they're restricted to the marginal techie populace in lagos and maybe PH and abj.

I was speaking to an isreali the other day and i showed em nairaland and he was suprised that a site for nigs would only have about 100k registrd users in a country of 150m people. Even lag has about 10m and yet our net usage is so poor. Aside the traditional poor net usage of nigs, nig sites have not done well in pulling crowd from the traditional media to the new media: the net. They've not driven crowds from the traditional markets (alaba, shoping malls and co) to the new market. Its all a function of targeted advertising. So am afraid these new sites - whogobuy, 234world, buynigeria and seun's own might not have longevity cos they just blink in the dark.

What're the modalities? Would it have anything different than it has now? A payment system? An ebay sorta? A delivery system? Whats going to be new?
Politics / Re: Anenih Vs Obasanjo by initiator(m): 11:50am On Jun 28, 2007
If we had an opposition not made up of noodle heads like yerima and hustlers like kalu thew wouldve exploited the factionalisation of the PDP.

Foreign Affairs / Re: Bye Bye Tony Blair by initiator(m): 10:44am On Jun 28, 2007
TB would make a good envoy to the middle east just as he resolved the North ireland crisis which had brewed by for 30 years. He's a formidable politician albeit a showman though the invasion of iraq is still a dent in his career. I was humbled seeing him board a train yesterday. I thought of dear Nigeria
Politics / Re: Anenih Vs Obasanjo by initiator(m): 10:22am On Jun 28, 2007
Now the toxic politics of PDP is being served to the brewers one by one and it would be finally served to obasanjo, its just time. I hope anenih's disenchantment with PDP would lead him to allow the electoral tribunal in edo to run smoothly without his usual shenanigan. Yaradua should better stay away from obj cos dat man is BAD NEWS!
