Sports / Watch Brave Nigerian Kids In Dambe Boxing Bout Like Anthony Joshua (video) by initiator(m): 3:00pm On Apr 30, 2017 |
With the Anthony Joshua holding the top belt in boxing, it's best time to see how Hausa kids in this clip are preparing to be globally acclaimed by using just one arm to knock-out opponents. Crazy clip. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9husm4JC1SY&t=70s |
Sports / Can Nigeria's Local Boxing (dambe) Become The Next Sensation (video) by initiator(m): 7:37pm On Apr 24, 2017 |
Dambe boxing is big up north and a popular entertainment outlet. Lately I came across a channel on Youtube that is curating these fights and the production made me wonder if these fights can grow as big as UFC in North America. Watch the fight below and let's know if this can grow into something. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=e6XJ9aa795g&t=207s |

Now that I have watched this season to a considerable extent I must say that of the remaining housemates, Elikem is the most deserving. He has provided the best television moments and the talking points of the season. The only problem is that he isn't Nigerian even as he seems more Nigerian to me than Melvin. The way Nigerians are going on and on about Melvin is becoming funny cos most people know that the dude is nice but doesn't cut it for an entertainment show where personalities draw you in. During Karen's time peeps were saying she deserves it cos of her entertainment but now that has been abandoned for "gentleman" Melvin. I wish Melvin doesn't win so that a more deserving Nigerian wins it next time. You guys have ruined the entertainment value of the show, like really. 5 Likes |

But sometimes I wonder, stripped of nationality, what people see in this Melvin guy for entertainment. He is so so so dull. I just came across his diary session and he was completely evasive. I wonder why he should win this competition after shielding himself from viewers in a reality show. 4 Likes |

LMAO, Nando is hillarious. He said the housemates are soft and he would like to kill a lion with his bare hands. The guy is the ish for me this season. |

I am not even watching the show again...just following the trend here. The thing is so so boring except when Bevery starts to yarn her dust then i get tense cos she would just say rubbish. The last time I put the channel she said a pastor prophesied that she should stop talking too much because she would become a prophet latter in life. She went ahead to say first born children never do well or suffer alot. Just wished big brother would switch to those fishes. Kai! She even called Derenle her godfather. It seems Derenle influences all those that go for this competition, making them reflect his wildness. But to be fair to Bevery, I look forward to the saturday parties in the house cos of her dance. That chic can get down for daysssss. |

What crap is Melvin spewing about how much Nigerian actors are paid. The dude's conversations are like high-school gibberish. I so prefer Bevery. At least you know she would say one rubbish or the other. 1 Like |
Politics / Re: Boko-Haram Threatens To Kill Lt.Col Musa JTF Spokesman by initiator(m): 3:48pm On Mar 20, 2013 |
The solution now is to build a long wall across the boarder guarded by CCTV and sensors. Then cooperate with the US on drone surveillance and finally advise people to leave the Boko Haram stronghold for full frontal combat. In addition Nigeria just have to invade some neighbouring countries just like Kenya did to Somalia. The airforce has not been brought into this combat. It now has to. If we cannot take this battle to them then we have to begin the end of Nigeria as we know it because this North South thing is so contrived and may just not go far. I suspect that between now and the end of next year the boko haram members would take over Bornu if there isn't full out confrontation. 1 Like |

I know the writer through his magazine and respect him quite well. However, having spent almost 2 years in an IOC I would spot some inaccuracies in his rebutal. He fails to mention that even Dangote owns about 20% stake in OPL 223 or Owowo as it would be called. Seplat also has substantial ownership from the present Emir of Kano and one Orjiakor from the east. Also all the names mentioned by the senator were correct and speak to ownership, not production dynamics. He as a geologist knows that a barren block today could start producing a lot in 5 years. The writer did not disprove the senator. He only tried to say no other tribe is better. 5 Likes |

Politics / Re: Pictures Of Developments in Akwa Ibom State (uncommon Transformation) by initiator(m): 10:24pm On Jan 04, 2013 |
Wow you guys have turned a developmental thread into another subtle tribal thing. I disagree with those that say devt is brought about by education etc. Not really. Infrastructure attracts diverse people and diverse people create a dynamic where the locals step up. What AI needs most is opportunities and people would seek education to fill those positions. I was in the state twice this year and seriously made plans to move there. The governor however has to stop bragging and the locals have to be more receptive to non-indegines. 1 Like |

The football analogy given by aribisala is perfect in arguing against his point. Europe is the smallest continent bu has the most representatives at the worldcup. Reason? They are better footballers! So while Fifa helped to foster global unity by including other continents, it did not disadvantage the majority of footballing nations. When Africa started improving their slots were raised from 3 to 5. I believe Nigeia would be a better place if the mass of Northerners are educated because you ae only as strong as your weakest link; but this would not be gotten by lowering standards even down to zero. Let me give you an example, while I was at a FGC in the east there was this boy who came in in JS 1 and could not speak a line in english. He ended up being the but of jokes in class. People made him the class clown, taunting him with cattle sounds and all. Now tell me what unity you achieve by that. Unity is nothing. What unifies a people as argued in Achebe's book, The Problem with Nigeria are values of hardwork and justice and stuff like that. 1 Like |
Education / Re: Yobe State Has Zero Cut Off Mark For Federal School Entrance by initiator(m): 7:01pm On Jan 03, 2013 |
I attended a unity school with "Pro Unitate" as the motto and the objective of the school was not to unify the country as much as to educate its citizens. You cannot go to school to be united. You go to school to be educated. Proper education is the primary goal of any school. The unity part is secondary and the NYSC is more focused on that part. I find it uncomfortable to use ethnicity as a means of bringing people together. I tell you, the real thing that divides Nigerians is economic. Tribe and religin are there but the major factor that subjugates people is a class divide. If these schools were cathering to people whse parents earn about 200,000 annually then I would agree that quotas be given. From my earlier post my point is that these quotas can be kept as long as there is a timeline on them. |
