PoliticsRe: Do We Need Another International Airport In Lagos ? by initiator(m): 11:28am On Oct 12, 2009
lagos, apart from being the most populated city in Nigeria is also the smallest! So i don't know if having another airport would do. But i think a network of high-speed rail tracks would just do, and mounting pressure on the Federal Govt to modernise and expand the present MMA 2.
PoliticsRe: Ghana's Plan To Chase Out Nigerians - Classifies Ecowas Citizens As Expertrates by initiator(m): 1:21pm On Oct 09, 2009
One thing this thread has revealed is how Nigerians have grown to hate themselves and consider themselves deserving of sh.it. Notwithstanding, i was in Ghana some months back, Tema Refinery to be precise. Those Ghanians thinking that Nigeria is a nuisance better reconsider because Nigeria's supply of crude to the refinery is what holds the economy there, so before their government goes on with unpleasant policies they should think roundly.

Countries around the world prosper when they open their economy to the world - America, China, Japa, etc, It makes no sense to be a closed economy. My laundry man is Ghanian. He has family in Nigeria and Ghana and there is no restrain on him running his business in Ajah where he does it. No $300, 000 requirements and all so why extend this same policy to Nigerians? It beats me.

The Nigerian Government doesnt bar foreigners from establishing banks in the country like Citi Bank, Standard Chartered etc, but discourages foreign banks from ACQUIRING more than 20 % of local banks and this policy was in Soludo's time as the new guy seems disposed to take-overs.

I just checked the website's poll and obviously elizbeth's votes have overtaken yacob's even though kevin is still trailing hannington in the overall. So as much as y'all keep voting elizbeth, remember to still vote kevin - alternate it, lol
TV/MoviesRe: Big Brother Africa 4 (The Official Thread) by initiator(m): 2:37pm On Oct 07, 2009
But i thought this year they are not accumulating the votes according to individual national votes but simply totaling everybody's votes. The two eviction editions i watched i didn't see a display of countries and how they voted. I thought this year they were simply using the everybody's votes irrespective of country. I'm getting tired of the BBA concept because nationality is simply blocking the entertainment value of each housemate. I'd prefer a BBN or BBS for instance. Meanwhile if Kevin leaves my motivation for that show would drop and if they take away Hanni, then it's simply RIP BBR!
WebmastersRe: Nairaland Is The #1 Nigerian Website by initiator(m): 11:36am On Oct 06, 2009
There was a time i was really blogging heavily on Nairaland and after about 6 months, my interest fizzled out. I have come back after about two years and the site is almost the same! It is content-rich no doubt, it is interactive no doubt, but it needs to broaden its activities and remain light. I must commend Seun for this project but my problem with the way his running the site is that it is built around him and not a system that grows. There isn't also as much offline buzz. I think it's time he rethinks the project, like seriously.

PoliticsRe: Dora Nkem Akunyili (OFR) As The New Information Minister by initiator(m): 7:42pm On Dec 18, 2008
i wonder how Prof Dora's zeal would benefit Nigeria in a ministry that involves telling the press what was discussed in the Federal Executive meeting?

The woman's inability to reject this post makes me question her sense of perception.

A lackey government like yaradua's just needs an aggressive mouthpiece with goodwill.

Every move by yaradua these days just continue to confirm his GROSS GROSS GROSS ineptitude.
Christianity EtcRe: For Catholics: Who Is Your Favorite Saint? by initiator(m): 3:24pm On Dec 16, 2008
nice thread.
apart from our lady my favourite saints are st augustine and st josemaria escriva. i love st josemaria, founder of opus dei for the contemporary, pragmatic and uncompromising tone of his message on the universal call to holiness.
Music/RadioRe: Mtv Africa Music Awards 2008 by initiator(m): 12:19pm On Dec 03, 2008
I watched the MAMA awards and from other media sources i understand what was shown was an edited version of what went down with lapses ranging from sound problems to logistic problems. On THE KUDOS SIDE, I THINK THE AWARD HAD SOME NICE PERFORMANCES - from ikechukwu/cassette/jua cali performance to HHP and Asa and D'banj/Kelly rowland.
Game brought it on but for the ugly ugly fan reaction which made me wonder whether the show was a concert or an award.
Nice performance was flat for me - i've heard that guy performe that song a million times (on tv) and in all he just lips to the song from his cd! no stage craft. dont get me wrong, i feel he is one of the most original acts from naija but on stage, there's not much from him really.
The idea of the jozi/p-square battle was a good idea and they brought up the heat but the camera positioning didnt give the viewers a full view.
For those who said 9ice deserved the best new act more than naeto c, they are just looking at the award from a nigerian perspective. hey am an alternative kinda guy but naeto c's album was envelope-opening-stuff for me - really classy - and the international airplay dominance of kini big deal is the type that can garner foreign votes than 9ice's.

and for those bringing up the igbo thing, they dont even deserve a reply as romeo captured the shallowness of that point very well.
SportsRe: Football: Between Nigerians And Ghanaians by initiator(m): 4:54pm On Oct 27, 2008
I remember when i was in secondary school, i had a friend whose mum is ghanian, who would argue with all his veins about how ghana is better than Nigeria and i'd be like whathuh

Its a "my dick is longer than yours argument" which most Ghanians like to engage it but i must admit that Ghanians have a strong nationalistic sentiment which is good but they should stop masturbating with Nigeria's flag lol
TV/MoviesRe: Project Fame West Africa: Iyanya Wins by initiator(m): 1:50pm On Oct 22, 2008
The show lacks technical depth, boringly Nigerian
TV/MoviesRe: Big Brother Africa III (3): Official Thread by initiator(m): 1:46pm On Oct 22, 2008
I totally agree with you RSA, the show has totally lost its purpose and verve. It is now a reward for boredom. ofunneka wasn't meant to be in the finals i agree. The show has been ruined by the viewers who keep voting out those they love to hate. After uti left the show just went down - sorry sheila said it, not me, i dont watch it again, i just follow on nairaland.
TV/MoviesRe: Big Brother Africa III (3): Official Thread by initiator(m): 12:05pm On Oct 14, 2008
This show has become totally clueless. I thought the whole idea of big brother was for interesting, entertaining and controversial characters to remain and boring ones to go. This is totally the reverse. The interplay of nationality and clueless teenage voters are ruining the show. I cant even watch it except the nomination and eviction shows, damn! Bobs we need Big Brother Nigeria fast. Imagine a house of 12 Nigerians like uti and the likes, imagine the cataclysm, and we would love and hate based only on personality! Shaila out again? Thats the no brainer.
TV/MoviesRe: Big Brother Africa III (3): Official Thread by initiator(m): 7:30pm On Oct 06, 2008
So the show is over now, aside Uti being Nigerian it only takes a fair minded person to see the fact that he was the life of the party. The guy isn't perfect (loud and all) but who says reality shows are for perfect people? Was Richard perfect? Was Cherise perfect? The guy was himsel and it showed. I dont like to sound off like a victim but truth is this Big Brother Africa thing doesn't work. Nigeria's sense of entertainment grossly differs from other African and some of them vote not on personality but on nationality. So when a show that is meant to highlight the individuality of people becomes prone to national political turns, the whole essence is defeated. I'd rather watch a Big Brother Nigeria or Big Broher South Africa. A just happy that Uti left on a high spirit - you just cant keep that boy's spirit down. This is my last post - a dirge to a boring show and a clueless sudience.
TV/MoviesRe: Big Brother Africa III (3): Official Thread by initiator(m): 8:11pm On Oct 03, 2008
RSA please continue to post lerato's comments wherever you get them, the chic got wit, just that the audience wasn't ready for her last year. This year Uti is bringing us that same drama and am going to upgrade my DSTV in my flat just to keep up with his antic. Once he's gone the rest of africa can "Go Die" - blind naija haters.
TV/MoviesRe: Big Brother Africa III (3): Official Thread by initiator(m): 12:31pm On Oct 02, 2008
Just imagine this show without Uti.
He annoys me sometimes but the guy draws strong emotion from viewers. I just watch the show cos of him. Jeez we need a Big Bro 9ja for more drama jare, these africans vote with sloopy sentiments. Uti doesn't play with his head but with his heart though and that could be his undoing but i just want him to remain.
TV/MoviesRe: Big Brother Africa III (3): Official Thread by initiator(m): 4:01pm On Sep 25, 2008
Hey you guys,
What do you peeps want to watch if Uti goes and am not saying this for any Nigerian sentiment crap but hey, the show is not an African Union summit for diplomats. Reality is full of vulnerabilities and conflicts and no other housemate embodies this than Uti - that's why a perveted Richard won the show last year! Uti is not Nigeria's ambassador, he has to win the show on his individual merit and frankly i watch the show cos of him. Whenever he stops yarning i just leave. Even if he leaves, one thing is sure: he would always be the Life of the party!!!!!

PoliticsRe: Has Fashola Really Done Anything In Lagos State? by initiator(m): 1:59pm On Jul 18, 2008
If Fashola's "performance" turns into a partisan debate, the first victim would be truth. Truth be told: Fashola has shown to some degree that he understands what it takes to manage a modern city. He uses the right words,
Problem is the praises have come too early. He is now so celebrated by segments of the media that we hear more of what he would do than what he is doing. The work in Lagos is so ENORMOUS that it required sober dilligence and not premature flattery.

His greenery is good but it has to be part of a wholistic infrastructural programme. Having flowers beside horrible roads doesn't make sense - AT ALL!

The only major road "commissioned" by his administration (started by Tinubu) is the 2km Ozumba express which has mysteriously stopped.

The guy must pull-off his sleves and carry-out a serious infrastructural renewal and stop employing LAMATA people to clean the drains as the park the heap by the side of the road only for it to be flushed into the drains by the rains.

The drainage problem in Lagos needs supreme engineering, some of whom have to be imported, not the paltry thing we have now.

By the way, i support his present demolition exercise just as i supported elRufai and Abuja is the better for it.

The morale of the story: Fashola and the press should shut up and get to work!!
BusinessRe: You Have Money And You Need Business Ideas? by initiator(m): 3:04pm On Apr 19, 2008
hello,
there's already a thriving food-based business started in the last-quater of last year. We really need expansion and regulatory ratification. To fund this expansion, investors are needed to take up equity for a couple of years with a cash out option. Those interested could contact me on 234 8023016353. We could meet in an open place in Lagos where i'd show the product.
BusinessRe: Transcorp: The Fall Of A Giant? by initiator(m): 10:48am On Feb 19, 2008
While i agree the fundamentals were wrong in the setting-up of NITEL, i believe the government's move is the very best way to erode confidence in the economy. How does a 49% equity holder in a company (government) suddenly dismiss a 51% holder? How? And the reason for such a reversal is not even made public? It can't get any more ludicrous. Yaradua's honeymoon with the public is over. He is so redundant that his best moves are reversals. I have lost hope in this government. Let's keep waiting for the "messiah".

Foreign AffairsRe: Obama For President? by initiator(m): 11:22am On Jan 10, 2008
Judging by the trends, people would vote more with their hearts than with their heads. Thats why obama, with all his vagaries is making an impressive run.

The man is an inspiring persona, no doubt, but i always want to see a republican occupy the white house especially those with strong social stance on abortion, gay marriage and stem cell research. Huckabee, romney and mcain just fit the bill for me. Obama is long on the 'wow effect' but short on persuasive detail.
PoliticsRe: African History Repeats Itself by initiator(m): 10:34pm On Jan 09, 2008
There are different trends that weave around the kenyan situation some of which are human, and some are perculiarly african.

On one hand is the 'animal called man' who is naturaly competitive, divisive and perpetuates stereotypes. This problem has manifested itself in different parts of the world from the nazi holocust to the problems in former yugoslavia. Sometimes the violence that erupts in these areas as in kenya help put the problems in perspective.

On the other hand is the problem of crude and fraudulent elections in africa. When politicians cannot win fair elections in africa they resort to ethnic canopies.

Finally there's the problem of poor federal structures in several african countries that make the presidents too powerful and their apointments charged with ethnic interpretations. The same thing happens in nigeria.

Ultimately, as african countries begin to have visionary leaders who spread oportunities and promote education, africans would begin to handle their ethnic differences more maturely.
We talk of a united state of africa, but is it not better a bit apart - federally - while working together - unitedly?
PoliticsRe: It Is Confirmed:ribadu To Be Dragged To Court Over N668m Houses by initiator(m): 9:53pm On Jan 09, 2008
I'v not comentd on nairaland for a long and after my vacation from the politix section, i'v stil come back to Big B1's boring monotone of heaping accusations on one of Nigeria's most passionate public officers while ignoring IBB's corruption holocust, so much for selectivism.

And for ono, ribadu did not go after ibori while in office because of the immunity clause, a facility that doesn't cover ribadu.

BusinessSeeking High Interest Loan by initiator(op): 3:40pm On Sep 13, 2007
I'm putting together the packaging and distribution of a fast-moving consumer
product here in lagos. The content is gotten from the north. After extensive research,
i started putting together funds and have purchased a machine, packaging materials
and sundry items.

Now together with a venture partner, we have ran into a shortfall of N110, 000and
need an interest-based loan to bail out the start up project as sales outlets and cancassers
have been guaranteed. This is our offer(s) to any interested investor:

20% interest on N110, 000 for 3 months (excluding first month).
40% interest on N110, 000 for 12 months (excluding 2 first months).

For those who would ask what kind of food packaging we're going into, i would not
state it here. I would only reveal further detail to a SERIOUS party who can reach me
on chidi_festac@yahoo.com.

Further due dilligence can be carried out (physical visitation of purchased hardware and all)
but for us time is of the essence.

TV/MoviesRe: 80% Of Nollywood Films Are Wack by initiator(m): 11:05am On Sep 12, 2007
The industry needs a lot of investment to grow. Investment in modern movie studios, investment in film academies, investment in distribution outlets and other multiplier sectors. However you must give it to the present practitioners who have staked their money to take this industry to the third in the world. Just watching Africa Magic you get surprised at the level Nigeian movies have gone in Nigeria. All over africa (or in some parts) Nigerian movies are eagerly watched even as they are crap in terms of depth of writing and lousy production input.

To outdo the present marketers takes a lot of money to create multimedia outlets. There are also not cinemas to create a box office scenerio here. A ll these has led to the stagnancy of the movie sector. So the long and short, TALENT FOLLOWS CAPITAL. Put in more money in this industry and the yield would be bountiful.
