CelebritiesRe: Can You Identify This Once Fat, Now Slim Singer? by InkedNerd(f): 12:28am On Feb 28, 2011
Some of you need to keep in mind that just because she's slimmer, it doesn't mean she is healthier and just because she bigger doesn't necessarily mean she was unhealthy. I know people who are healthy and very active but are more fleshy. in my opinion, I think she looks better now that she's lost some weight as for whether or not she is actually healthy, that is between her and her doctor.

@OP: Sure, if that's what you really wanna do then go for it. I know a couple of website on how to care and maintain for loc'd hair. I think it would look nice on you by the way. I have natural hair and I love it. I once thought about getting locs a couple of years ago. Don't be afraid to embrace loc'd hair because of societal views wink kiss.

V I O:
do u really need that as a girl/lady?
What do you mean by "do u really need that as a girl/lady?"? Is there some rule or law that says only men can have locs? huh tongue
Nairaland GeneralRe: If Today Was Your Last Day on Earth? by InkedNerd(f): 12:08am On Feb 28, 2011
@OP: If today were my last day on Earth, I'd just write a freakishly long letter and let the world know what is on my mind and in my heart. Then I would spend it doing everything and anything that makes me happy.

emzmorz:
I am suffering from acute leukemia.
My Doctor told me that I am lucky if I last for one month.
That was almost 2 weeks ago when he told me that,
yesterday I bleed severely and my
doctor told me that my condition is getting worst.
I only have one week.
At first I am denying the fact that I only have week
to live well he is not God.
Only God has the power to tell when
someone will die.
That's my fiancee always reminding me,
God is the Creator and He can only tell when some one
will die. But if this is my last day on Earth
I will ask forgiveness to my Parents for all
the disappointments that I have caused to them,
for all the pain and heartaches.
I will also want to go to the beach with my love ones
and spend the rest of the day celebrating with them.
Thank you.
OMG, I am so sorry to hear that. I wish and hope for you to get better cry cry cry. Please try and stay optimistic.

Oh ok, my husband was born in Nsuka but my in-law have a branch of Oando in Enugu Town. My husband is still in Naija because he wants to finish our house in Transekulo.

Anyway, I will supply a real hair wig in Lagos and Enugu, probably this week while my husband is still in Naija.
That's sounds wonderful. Its nice that you want to have your own business in Iberian. I suggest you do some research on the hair care industry and the area where you'd like to start your business before you go through with anything.

tatiana009:
Hmmm, so lack of submission equals murder? Na wa o
I was thinking the same thing. No amount of lack of submission should result in anyone killing their spouse, whether its the husband killing the wife and the wife killing the husband.

mmeri:
Sad story though but real.
There is no reason for a man to lift his hand, lest shoot his wife.
My advice if you harbor this thought is to, just drop it. I tell you, it is not worth it and the society will judge you terribly if you commit the act.
I agree that a women should submit but the realities in modern time is that both parties must be committed to make it work.
It is time that men begin to shed some of their ego. If your wife out-ran you economically then adopt diplomacy.  Period!
I agree. A lot of these men stupidly cling onto their ego as if it were the end of the world.

solidifi:
Inked Nerd my dear, women are not animals. They're vital part of men. But they're commanded by their Maker to be submissive.

No matter what a woman is, her husband is her head, except you don't believe God's word. When a wife loves money more than her husband, what manner of wife is she. Is better not to enter into the marriage institution at all, because you'll be the 1st graduate of this great institution.
Let's be objective & factual here, bias & sentiments apart.
My belief or lack of in God is not the subject matter or this topic. Even if a wife loves money, it not any reason to justify such actions.
tatiana009:
@ Solidifi, the poster asked a simple question, who is to blame? And you said the women( the victims) and went on to state their lack of submission as the reason. Now even though you went on to say men should not think this excuses murder, the point is that in its self is wrong. When a crime is committed the person at fault is the perpetrator. By the way you should learn to discuss with people with different opinions without bringing in the devil. I don't know why some people need to bring the devil into everything even a simple discussion! i think you should take your own advice and not let him operate in your life and speech
Yes indeed, it so annoying to talk to someone on Nairaland without them turning it into some sort of Biblical war. I don't understand why Africans always seem to have a need to assert their religious beliefs on others.

solidifi:
tatiana009,
I'm entitled to my own opinion. Air your views, and possibly proffer solution(s) to this problem @ hand as others did, and stop attacking someone's piece of mind.

I reiterate, I never supported and 'll never support such barbaric, devilish, cannibalistic, uncultured, unmanly act.
Tanx.
I don't think tatiana009 was telling you that you shouldn't be entitled to your opinion. I think what she was tryin to say was that you can talk to people without always throwing God in their face.

And what does cannibalism have to do with the article? huh

Front what I've been reading, the hair industry in Nigeria seems to be booming. I don't live in Nigeria, so I don't know the specifics of that sort of business.
you're reading way too much into what i said. where is your sense of humor.

besides take a look at the pictures again. especially the one where she has black face and white paint stripes. obviously she was going for the tribal "African look". Yes there is no such thing as African look blah blah blah. but you get the point when I say tribal/bush african look.
the white stripes and outfit look out of place on a woman who looks more Caucasian than African.

Many fashion designers use dark skinned models to pull off that look. But I guess it was Beyonce's editorial so she wanted to model the outfit herself and appear on the cover. she is the celebrity after all. but she should have picked a different theme like maybe safari/tourist etc. I'm sure there are other ways to market the leopard outfits or whatever it is she's trying to market (herself +mom's clothing line).

bottom line:
my guess is that she was trying to go for a tribal look like the pic below, but her skin was too light to pull it off  so she used black paint to make it look more authentic but obvious at the same time. That's what I am guessing anyway. hence it is an opinion lol I'm sure Beyonce herself may come out soon to explain why she used a "black face." I put black face in quotation because I don't think what she did is a black face ie the racist definition. That's like me putting a white sheet around myself because i'm cold and somebody else coming to tell me that i'm KKK. the intention matters more. but I agree she should have expected criticism. she wasn't being culturally sensitive

No offense but it didn't come across as a joke. Even ogugua88 seemed to take it in the manner as I did. Anyway, thanks for clarifying about what you think her reason was for darkening her skin.

cap28:
After reading some of the posts on here i am now convinced that there is a marked difference between how black people who were born and raised in america view racism from the way black people who came to the US as adults view racism.

You have to have lived through it to understand it and unfortunately many nigerians who came to the west as full grown adults do not understand what its like to live in an environment where being black is regarded as a mark of inferiority.

This is why some posters on here are saying things like: "whats the big deal", "why cant you move on" whereas blacks who were born and raised in an environment in which they have constantly been told that they are less than, automatically take offence to these pictures.

I have spent a lot of time researching and reading about the experience of african americans and i understand why african americans/ black people born and raised in america are upset.

Being black in america is synonymous with inferiority - there are some nigerians who are in complete denial about this but you can not run away from the truth. Black people in america have it ingrained in them from the cradle to the grave that there is something wrong with them because they are black, furthermore dark skin (especially on women is regarded as unattractive) the western media has placed on a pedestal the beauty of the white woman and has degraded the beauty of the black woman, this is evident in those pictures that Beyonce took in which the make up artiststs darken her skin in such a way that it looks as if the darkness of her skin is blotting out her beauty, in other words being very dark skinned makes it impossible for people to actually tell whether you are beautiful or not - this is what the white fashion and beauty industry thinks of dark skin.

Were Fela's dancers and singers not mostly dark skinned? were they not exquisitely beautiful? did any of them look like that caricature that Beyonce displayed in that magazine?

If you look at the way Fela's dancers/singers decorated their faces you can tell that this was done with the utmost care and attention, their faces were like works of art, contrast that with the cartoonish sambo like distortions on beyonce and you will see that the whites are merely using beyonce as a way to further push their insidious campaign that dark skin is not beautiful.

In the old days white entertainers would put boot polish on their faces and pretend to be black people - they would speak and act like braindead buffoons because this is how they wanted the world to perceive black people, as a result "black face" became synonymous with the words: clown, buffoon, sambo, simpleton and fool. It therefore beggars beleif that Beyonce and her handlers would go as far as using this sort of imagery to portray an african person.

Does it mean that beyonce and her handlers are so devoid of self respect and basic human dignity that they would be willing to not only demean themselves for a quick buck but also disregard the suffering and abuse meted out to their ancestors who fought for years to rise above those kind of hateful images and be treated as equals in a nation built on the sweat of their ancestors?
Well said cap28 wink

Inky thanks jare. when you say real oil . . . , what do you mean pls?

In response to your question  . . Just finished

I dont really want to use clearasil moist. I want something a little more "stronger" I am an "aunty" not a teenager so need to start caring more for my skin embarassed wink
Well, when I say real oil, I meant oils that are plant based oils. For example, avocado oil, almond oil, apricot kernel oil grapeseed oil, lanolin, sesame oil, jojoba oil, olive oil, shea butter, etc. Just Google plant based oils for skin and you'll find a ton of information. The reason I didn't include baby oil as actual oil is because it is derived from petroleum. Personally, I'm not into the idea of using many commercial products but I heard my mom talking about using Oil of Olay products for beautiful youthful skin.

That is true actually, most Asians have wavy hair. Most Asians that have straight hair are Filipinos, Korean and Chinese.
I remember having a discussion with a Korean friend of mine years ago and we talked about how people assume all Asians have straight hair. In fact, my mother's co-worker's son has curly hair. filnaija, are you Filipino?
lol. I think she is too light skin for french people's taste and they wanted to darken her to avoid confusion. Beyonce is black after all. they don't want people wondering why she doesn't look black.
and the theme is african bush tribal. It doesn't look as authentic on a light skin model. But they should have picked a darker skin model though like alek wek.
but then beyonce's name is more marketable. she would bring in more profit.
ah the dilemma.

Well I hope l'officiel Paris has learned its lesson:  The easy way out is sometimes a very hard way out.
now they have to do more PR to repair this damage to their image.
Confuse French people about her being black? What's there to be confused about? Even if people couldn't figure out her ethnic background, what does that have to do with anything? And there's no such thing as "looking Black". As Africans, we come in many shades and hues so there is no one look to "looking Black". Alek Wek is not a representation of all of Africa. Just because she indulges the narrow mindedness of Caucasians by portraying a look that that has stupidly become synonymous with Africa doesn't mean that is what Africans look like.

ogugua88:
Is she the only light-skinned AA? Fanta from Bracket, is he not lighter than Beyonce? Omotola is light. There are albino Nigerians. With that said, if she darkened her face as to blend in with Africans/Nigerians, then I will never understand what she's trying to convey.
Personally, I think the photo shoot could have been a lot better without the horrid makeup. I saw the video of the photo shoot and looked way better without the makeup. She didn't need to go foe the "African primitive" to portray Fela Kuti.

Well, you could try substituting baby oil with real oil or perhaps try applying a Clearisil moisturizer since you're already using the cleaner. If you don't mind me asking, are you currently menstruating? If so, it could be what is causing the acne. Oh and by the way, don't pop the pimples--you'd only be doing more harm than good.

Most of the people saying move on will have a change of heart if they experience. However, I think the issue with humanity atimes is the inability to be empathic.

That people are always criticising Beyonce or whatever, if any other celebrity were to use shoe polish or whatever to darken ONLY their face in order to pay tribute to Africa or wherever they would get flack for it. Even Forest Whittiker got some flack for painting his whole body dark to play "Last King of Scotland."
I understand what you're saying. Honestly, if I hadn't been raised here in the US, I don't really think my views on racism would be the same.

ogugua88:
Tell them o! The same happened to me when I was dating a Mexican some years back. We were living in Southern California then, so you can only imagine how we were stared upon. At some point he wanted to stop holding hands in the public because the stares and the comments were too much.

ALSO, in 2008, I was campaigning for Barack Obama about 10-15 minutes from my house; a huge rally. One white lady drove up to me and asked me if I knew what I was doing, holding the signs I was holding. I told her "yes". She told me "slavery needs to be reinstated".

Maybe if those of us abroad start sharing our experiences with racism, they'll begin to understand why this is upsetting. It's regression when all we want and need is progress.
I've heard of things like that happening in California when it comes to dating between Black people and Latinos [specifically Mexicans and Mexican Americans]. I don't mind if people stare, whisper, or point just as long as they aren't physical with me or the person I'm with. At times, the looks make laugh. Like today when my friend and I were on the train our way to the Russian neighborhood, there was an old woman staring and givin' up the side eye. Every now and then there'd be some young people who would look at us then turn away quickly. When I was leaving my friends neighborhood, I had African American men [both young and old] giving dirty looks to my friend. I do agree that more of us need to share our stories. You wouldn't believe the crazy things I hear some Nigerians say about what the US is like.
