She's referring to consumer goods that are imported... Like electronic gadgets, cars, machines, etc.
It's same as long as it is imported when Naira started gaining against the Dollar, for every #1 gain the Naira makes, the lesser the value the Dollar being held and the more such person will pay when purchasing goods imported with a gained Naira vs Dollar

She knows nothing.

If she had purchased $2,000 worth of dollars at #1,700 per $ back then, she must have spent #3.4 million naira for the purchase.

If she now uses that $2,000 to purchase goods worth $2,000 today according to her, she would actually pay the seller #3.4 million naira to buy goods worth only #2 million naira undecided (with dollar being #1,000 per dollar today, her $2,000 will only be able to buy goods worth #2 million only)

Dpharisee:
Its just common sense, your $1000 will always buy items worth $1000 but you can not guarantee your N1000 buying the same loaf of bread tomorrow morning
No, it's not common sense, it's a shallow one from her. Then as long as you are buying goods here in Nigeria, for anyone who acquired dollars when it was above #1,100, yes you may pay $1,000 to purchase goods, its never the same worth like you put it judging by how naira has gained against the dollar recently.

Them no dey telli person.

How many Nigerians would be able to fork out such an amount for "luxury".

Their best bet is this...lower the price per unit and cash out on turnover.
I don't know why businesses don't do this. Even DSTV too, made premium package so expensive that only few could afford it, if its below 10k, the turnover will be huge.

Drowned in the swimming pool for over 3hours before help could come his way? The hotel should be held responsible for this avoidable loss of life. Poor management system.
That's the part that caught my attention too, not in a river o, drowmed in a swimming pool for more than 3 hours before they could get him out! I really don't understand undecided

Band A, other bands can go and die wit ;Dh or marry darkness cheesy Band A must be Abuja
my thoughts too, it's like he has forgotten about other bands, all attention are on band A.
It's even injustice to other Nigerians, why should you intentionally place me on a band by virtue of where I stay, they should hive everyone enough power supply and get everyone metered.

Cos as it is discos will rather be supplying power to band A alone at the detriment of other bands.

What a country!

Politics / Re: Border Reopening Will Cripple Nigeria’s Economy, Rep Warns by Inspirer1: 6:43am On Apr 11
CaveAdullam:
The article and concern of the rep are everything that can't make a country experience economic prosperity.

Opening your borders will reduce the price of goods and services. Because there will be inflow from many sources who intend to capture your market. Even many of the indigenous citizens can see it as an opportunity to act as wholesalers, retailers, or distributors of such goods.

Opening your border allows your citizens to focus on the absolute or comparative advantage of goods and services. Rather than try to reinvent the wheel, they can focus on goods and services they have higher powers compared to other countries.

By opening your border and allowing the free flow of goods and services, that both import and export, you make life easy for the common man because producers will compete for them by lowering their prices. If the citizens can get their basic needs met they can focus on other things like innovation, invention, and research.

Any economy regulated by the government makes both imports and exports difficult. The result is hardship. The people favored are government businessmen and their friends and families. It gives room to monopoly. It makes local manufacturing and production difficult.

The function of government is to check for standards and quality and maybe bail out in tough economic situations. By the way, those difficult economic conditions are a result of useless government policies.

The free market is what built, America, China, Singapore, etc. Allow the market to decide what will happen in the economy. Give it a free chance. The free market creates more prosperity than anyone can think of.

Greed and exploitation in the free market is a fallacy. A fallacy we've all swallowed as truth. When there's competition, which is a result of the free market, there can't be an unnecessary hike in price. See Air Peace and other airlines.
Again we don't also consider the cost of production. We only see the price and start shouting "greed and exploitation".

However, in a free market, a capitalist market, every manufacturer will maneuver costs to ensure that the price for goods is on the same par with similar goods in the market. Or better still switch to another form of business to avoid loss.

Nigeria should open its border. Reduce the amount of import charges. Reduce tax rate. And the economy will grow.

There was no country when they were poor that closed her border that ever prospered. No country on earth. No one.

Thanks.
Exactly.

When our people travel to Saudi, they buy China made goods back home, even the Almighty UK, u still see China made stuffs

For Agricultural produce:
What has been the benefit of all the FG interventions to farmers, especially up north, if everything seems so expensive especially when prices of the imported food products goes up.

I believe anyone, trader or farmer that is receiving govt intervention should not sell like those not receiving.
Would it not be better for govt to fix roads, education, the health sector or electricity that will benefit all rather than giving interventions that we won't see the comparative advantages?

For instance, we have bought Nigerian rice from Benue that the vendor said its neat,, even showed us pix (fake) of a neat handful lot of rice, she also said no stone, no black stuffs etc, but it's the direct opposite on first cook of the rice, felt so sad and disappointed. Called her to complain, she later admitted, but why the deciet? We have sent the remaining to her paying waybill twice and till this morning she's yet to refund our money after several weeks.

If the Nigerian produced own are as good and as affordable, only very few will go for the imported ones if at all there will be.

So who pronounced him dead in the first place that they had to take him to the morgue?

We live in a country where people do anything for fame or content.

Skiibi once faked his death
Sky B also faked his death

I really hope this isn't a strategy to promote that movie or trend.

Glad to know we still have him with us
I don't think it is fake, cos report says two other guys were involved.

IMAliyu:

There is a bit of a bottleneck here.

This is a Hydroelectric plant, meaning the problem is that their is a limited number of natural waterways (rivers) that you could feasibly build a Hydroelectric dam with in the country, i would think.
So, there would need to be a mix of other types of power plants, which could in reality be cheaper or more expensive.
a broader consideration 👍
