@pumping, this 'big claim' fear is even more reason why I want to reduce my presence in the insurance sector.

Anyways, I will offer to insure the insurance companies against any sudden 'big claims'.

This sunday evening saw my neighbor paying me his first visit since the begining of the year. He made me laugh so much I nearly fell from my chair. Imagine the man asking me to help explain how I trade stockfish while I have no shop where I sell them!

By the time I understood what he means by 'stock' as stockfish it took me some time to understand. The man just left after recieving some basic investment lessons.

I have this feeling that the market will still see some loss of value for many stocks. The bears seem to be setting up a big stand on the floors of the exchange. They want to run the shows for some time.

I intend to exit all my profitable positions and lie in wait for the bears to do their magic. If they beat the market silly, so many opportunity will surface for me to re enter with force.

Who else could second my opinion as to the bears ruling for some time from next week?

It is always important to know how your investments are performing from time to time; you will likely want to know how your different investments in various Companies are performing. This will be with a view to finding out how your decisions have helped you make or lose money. Some people will want to sell a stock that has made a 25 percent profit for then, after all commissions and taxes have been removed.

An effective monitoring program should provide you with sufficient information to evaluate the investments strengths and weaknesses, and help you find out on time if your investment objectives are likely to be met or not. Monitoring should include some analysis of not only what happened, but why.
There are two types of stock performance measurements:

1. Performance measurement

2. Performance evaluation

Performance measurement is a technical accounting function that computes the return of your whole stock portfolio.

Performance evaluation on the other hand is a function that uses the information generated by performance measurement to determine what contributed to, or detracted from the portfolios return.

Nigerian securities site has some good portfolio management tools.

InvestmentRe: Stock Market Tips For Nigerians by invisible2(m): 12:53am On Mar 09, 2008
EXPERIENCE IS THE BEST TEACHER.

Making mistakes is part of the learning process for all new investors, but all too often its plain old common sense that separates successful investors from the rest. Note also that nearly all investors new or experienced have fallen astray from common sense and made a mistake or two. It is impossible to be perfect, but knowing some common investing errors can help deliver you from going down the well traveled, yet rocky path of losses.
The best way of becoming a better investor is to learn from other peoples instead. Based on all my experience, the most important advice I can offer to all new investors is to HAVE AN INVESTIMENT PLAN. Know why your are buying a stock and know what you are looking for in the company. If only you can take some time to rethink what you want to do a lot of mistakes will be avoided.
For every stock you buy and later sell, always write down all the lessons you learned about the stock market, from the trade. It doesn’t matter where you write it down, whether you keep a trading diary or use a register, the important thing is to methodically record market lessons as they occur. This surely will make you to remember all the mistakes you make, proffer solutions to problems as they arise and generally become more experienced.

Happy investing!

Belewu:
Beta glass lost 1.39 today (4.96%) and closed at 26.61
@belewu, I dont think you see what am seeing, check your prices again, look at cashcraft and nigesec. it clearly lost about 2.79. or which site you dey view sef?
InvestmentRe: Stock Market Tips For Nigerians by invisible2(m): 8:28pm On Mar 06, 2008
its not only in beta glass that i noticed these mistakes, also look at Cappa and d'alberto, gaining 10.65, from 90 somethingnaira yesterday, or even Union homes losing 0.37k and still closing at 9.00, with a high of 9.10and a low of 8.95? what is happening here.

Let me state here that NSE may have passed a law authorising a bigger close or gain, like 10% without telling the rest of us. Yes it could happen na! Madam Ndi has pulled worse stunts before? Look at transcorp and you might start to see how reckless these peeps could be.

These mistakes is bad for stock picks as these prices are not reliable anymore. Imagine using wrong prices to make decisions and the same prices changes overnight? how una dey see am for una spreadsheets?
InvestmentRe: Stock Market Tips For Nigerians by invisible2(m): 8:05pm On Mar 06, 2008
i just noticed that Beta glass lost as much as 2.79 today. this is far above the daily allowed 5% drop or rise for any stock, what might be the cause of this, or will this be a mistake?

It just struck me that its only disunited fans and assenal peeps that are always talking on this forum, but lets all stand up and give a standing ovation to the 'real' wonder boys of our time!

Lets us pleeeeeease stand up for the real true undiluted 'blues' the soccer 'gods' the only guys in the world that plays 'business football' we are not there to dribble and brag about the pitch with confused strikers, we score goals only, no matter how 'crude' the scramble may be, talk about solid midfielders, strong like 'chin chin' (Essien) and the rest of the performance oriented big wigs, are you guys not homing in to these wondermen by now?

All rise and clap for CHELSEA, the true champions elect, clap, clap, clap, clap, year all can now sit down and lets discuss stocks and shares.

GTB still has some upward moves to make, same with Intercont. As they will close Feb, peeps waiting for goodies will be reluctant to sell, so the price may likely see 45+ before weakening. But for now, there may not even be rumors, only positioning going on- never be too late for the party!

@contactuzo, sorry for the delay, but it was not even in Lagos that I met this contact. I was on a trip to Enugu. But I was made to understand the loan service is bank wide (uniform terms and conditions), so it is also available at any other branch of FBN.

Na every 2 seconds the guy dey call me now and he keeps reminding me how Nigerians are crooks.Make I castrate am?
It pains me when ppl I am arranging business with starts to become dodgy, not because I cant handle their business, but because they 'heard' that Nigerians are crooks. It very unfortunate that our brothers has so much soiled our collective image, but it now falls on us to clear up our image. So matey, no vex for the guy, show am say some Nigerians are better than his own ppl, wherever he came from sef.

I blew one American to bits this morning in his correspondence with me, my annoyance was that he was writing about the Nigerian stock market, ponzi schemes, pyramid shemes and other hyip businesses as one and the same.

I know say na bad belle dey worry them, as our NSE dey perform more than wall street.

Is there any place I could find out AGM dates and venues for upcoming AGMs in the web? I have some weeks free and will be willing to attend some AGMs in Lagos or anywhere else.

I used to get these notices in my mail box, but these days, due to the snail pace of our darling NIPOST, you get the AGM notice about a week or so after the meeting took place! I wish someone buys up NIPOST and turns it around.

good suggestion bibiking, I think those guys should be made to refund all the money the country paid to them for this championship. see as their mates dey take them make yeye for field. abi they no sabi play ball and they came out to cause so many millions of Nigerians sadness.

second suggestion, their name should be changed to super ducks, until they merit to be called eagles again. Also everybody that played the champions league should be dropped from further national assignments, except Odenwingwe, till further notice.

I hope am not being too harsh on them? grin grin

Nestle foods has been experiencing some declining margins for some time now. Reasons for this was given to be the high cost of doing business in this country. Most manufacturing concerns has been finding things difficult due to the poor state of our infrastructures. No good roads, making the life span of distribution vehicles shorter, the resalable value next to nothing.

Also light and water source is expensive. Most manufacturing concern are going on generating sets for power. This is additional expenses.

I tend to favor service oriented firms, like the financial services sector, the telecom companies, and commercial businesses, where margins are better.
