This should be very easy to answer since it was on the news then.

Who can tell me the prominent world leader that visited President Yar Adua at Aso rock on the 30th of February 2008?

@EASIMONI, I AM BEGINNING TO SUSPECT THAT MOST OF THESE COYS ARE RELEASING THEIR RESULTS TO COINCIDE WITH THE IMPENDING BULL RUN.

CCNN RELEASED THEIRS EARLY.

@PUMPING I AGREE WITH YOU BUT WITH THE BULL RUN PLUS D FACT DAT CCNN HAS D MOST CHEERING NEWS(SOME PROFIT) I EXPECT IT TO BE ON D UPWARD TREND.
I dont want to sound like a doubting Thomas but I think the bears are not finished yet. That stampede effect may likely continue untill all those that has made 'amu robber' profits will finsh their game. Nobody wants to see his or her spreadsheet profits varnish.

So the bulls may still wait untill I finish loading my trailer, then we can proceed to lake Chad. grin

But who should give the call for a suspension, SEC or NSE? If as I think it is SEC, then NSE has got on a collision course with their masters.

We neen conflicts like this to reassert authority flows and who should do what.

As unilever declared a 'little' dividend, which could be interpreted as not too good I was waiting for the stock to start moving up 5% everyday (since its the latest trend in the market) let us go out tomorrow and buy Unilever as this will make a very good candidate for CICO or REVERSE CICO as the case may be cheesy cheesy

Watch out for many many caveats on this one!

It seems selling UBA now makes some sense, since the banks that are supposed to declare results in feb, march are losing steam(GTB, FBN, Inter) how much more those that will declare results later in the year(UBA, Oceanic).

But later in the year banks will be pure 'cocaine' as most of them may pay fat dividends, think about N2.00 per share for grabs in some banks!  tongue the thought is simply mouth watering.

@beginner, you dont change tactics this easy in this business. Before changing strategies, try to test the ropes with small portions of your folio. All the same this will serve to educate you the more and lets hope the impact of this will be as minimal as possible.

Hi great house member, am the greenest horn in this house so i really just read the post , try and learn from the elders (iba yin o!) and keep a low profile. How ever i need HELP!

I bought around 15k units of dangote flour and 9k units of Nacho through my broker Alliance Capital Management Company Ltd, however even though i have received the ridiculous allotment share certifiate for 945 units of Nacho my brokers keep on telling me they are yet to get my refund! Abeg am getting frustrated and really pissed, what can i do. huh angry lipsrsealed

Also can anyone recommend a really great broker who handles both CICO and long term?

Thanks everyone, classes have been great!
most brokers who handl long time also handle cico, it only depends on the speed and expertise of the broker. also remember that all your success will depend on your own stock picking ability, as most brokers are only there to handle your buy/sell orders, not advice you on stocks to buy.

MTN Profit Little Changed; Subscribers Increase 53% (Update3)

http://www.bloomberg.com/apps/news?pid=20601116&sid=aXEvSrcOnOQc&refer=africa

March 19 (Bloomberg) -- MTN Group Ltd., Africa's largest mobile-phone company, said annual profit was almost unchanged as the end of a tax holiday in Nigeria eroded the benefit of a 53 percent increase in subscriber numbers.

Net income was 10.61 billion rand ($1.3 billion), or 5.59 rand a share, in the year ended Dec. 31, from 10.61 billion rand, or 5.89 rand, a year earlier, the Johannesburg-based company said in a statement to the city's stock exchange today. The tax rate increased to 39.5 percent from 17.6 percent as a five-year tax holiday in Nigeria ended.
I know it! MTN will try to reduce their profits and claim it was because tax is being collected from them in Nigeria. Asif they are not paying taxes in all the other countries they operate. If they dont want to pay the Nigerian government, they should walk out and allow VODACOM to come and run things here.

Even with the epileptic services they offer, their service is getting worse than NEPA own. Please let Vodacom com in and pay to Transcorp to run things here, at least Transcorp will also join to pay taxes to the federal govt.

invisible man, u no need candles for that one na.  grin grin. na Ndidi dey control am!! it doesn't obey any technicals jare.

but sha, looking at the chart it has now risen above the price it was at pre TS and it has been doing 4-price doji for the last few days meaning the open, close, high and low prices are the same or virtually the same. normally, and i say normally because transcorp isnt normal, doji imply indecisiveness in the market and usually signify a change in trend from the trend occuring before the doji happened. however in transcorps case, only God knows because for all u know, it cold do doji for the next 2 weeks!!!

i am a bit skeptical about it as i am sure u can tell in my tone.

i will hand u over to the chairman of transcorp, Samstone  cool cool cool cool
Good man topgun, na only God will bless you.

samstone4:
@ AKT

You missed the inverted dragonfly, bruce lee, hirohito doji of Transcorp. Very careless and CHEEKY!

As I posted in response to Invisible, I think Transcorp is rising because of the imminent resolution of Nitel wahala. Likely to be on terms favourable to Transcorp.
Just my assessment not any special inside information. I do know of one other major Telecoms company that is positioning to contest Nitel with Vodacom. May be a factor in the price movement.

Samstone4 cool cool cool
All hail the chairman himself, Samstone! You must be sitting on a lot of loot now after your company has been representing, just watch out for Grabdaloot, so he wont touch your Transcorp loot o.

Yeah they are still struggling with how to deal with that issue over there. Remembered a few years back when there was a massive row over refugees that were stuck in australian high seas for some weeks.

It caused a big ruckus that led to all sorts of diplomatic incidents when australia refused the ship carrying refugees entry into her territorial waters and the poor souls were stranded on the seas for some weeks can you imagine?
Racism! I better stay put in this country sha, not to be looked down upon just because of my skin colour. Will only go on holiday overseas, if I like!

@all, am enjoying a book here, very sound strategies freely discussed in this book. Go out and grab yourself a copy of 'how to make money in stocks' by William J O'neil.

Good book, latest edition.

InvestmentRe: Stock Market Tips For Nigerians by invisible2(m): 12:45am On Mar 18, 2008
ikeja hotels is a sound stok with nice fundamentals, my only fear for you trying to enter now is that a lot of ppl bought at prices below N7, so N10 will be a nice exit point, but it may still break trough N12 or above.

Disclosure, am neck deep in this one.

Yes, cheesy as the gurus don tire to analyse today, let the floor open to the non gurus to air their own views about the market direction grin

The bears are expected to still terrorize the market for the remainder of the week since most players will be preparing for holidays, so buying 'dirt cheap' stocks will last till middle of next week if not ending of next week (the friday factor)

Dangote sugar will do a reversal tomorrow huh wait until those ppl wey no get telly for their house go hear the bonus rumous this night for beer palors grin buy orders will be flying in anyhow.

Afprint and vono wey dey fall like rock go catch themselves, stagnate small. (somebody go dash them temporal fundamentals for their 'cheapness'

its expected that 1.5 bil could have gotten poly products some reasonable profits, but since they made only a paltry 13 mil, we should have cause to suspect something else.
