Just went to have a decent haircut this morning and they told me my best beutician called to announce he safely landed in Greece yesterday. Huge guy, 7 foot gentle giant who plays soccer. Early twenties and very kind. I wish him well sha. |

fstranger: On the research part, you will be shocked! Those families with diasporeans are poorer by far. Always waiting for feeding money, school fees and house rent money which may never come. One abroad 'big boy' even had the audacity to send 200 dollars through me to his wife and four kids! I had to supplement the money from my pocket to pay their landlord before he throws them out. |

justwise: Anybody in Nigeria not visiting his village will have visits from his relatives regularly. We can easily send garri, yam and native fowls for them. Tell me if it will be easy to pay DHL for same package to the US. If you cannot send goodies from abroad, we have to judge you harshly because you are not perfoming your own share of family work. Its better you return and be weeding your mumsie's cassava farm or replacing your dad in his suya hawking business under the flyover! |

justwise: There you o again with your 'many Nigerians abroad' quotes. I ask again, what of those we have not heard from in 15 years since they travelled? Some have even changed their names and are peeping from far away lands and waiting for their dads to die so they can come home to divide his properties. If that is your idea of a great relationship then rant on. |

justwise: Daily, they come back to marry, and get her pregnant, anandon her to her fate and be promising to come and pick her up later when his papers are complete. The worst are those young girls 'tied' up in marriages to those that run away again, leaving her confused and lonely, while the guy is married to his older white lady. |

Chai! Una own don finish patapata, Nigerians now sneaking into Kenya in order to sneak out from there. Thats how our people got stranded in Lybia, Morrocco and Senegal. Very soon, Nigerians will be locked in their thousands in Kenyan prisons. I pity una. |

Simple, breeze into Wallmart, buy original African hoe, cutlass and rake, hop into the next flight to Lasgidi, find yourself in your village in hours and kindly proceed to your father's abandoned land. Farm till you have enough to spare. Thats the best way to beat recession. |

eghost247: And those that have left naija dont talk bullcrap? They are even the major distractions. Someone manages to save 20 thousand dollars abroad and now thinks he can lord it over those naija based ones. You will be surprised when you return. |

And now, page 120. Some things seem very difficult to do at first, but gets easier as you speed up. This thread helps me advance, cause I cannot afford to hear you guys ask me "Why did you abandon the project?" I must win this war, I must defeat the writer's block. |

oyinda.: I know two elderly people like that. Five years ago when I wanted to move abroad, one had to travel back just to advice me, (an uncle) there were tears in his eyes when he told me that the worst thing that will happen to his life is to allow me go out there and repeat his mistakes he made when he was my age. The tears of that old man was part of the things that made me stay back here. Now when he calls, he says "you see, I think I told you to stay back" |

Blue Magic: Good points, that 90% that will readily leave Nigeria are the lazy, never do wells that dont belive in working hard and looking inwards to solve their problems. They are the chronically dis-satisfied brothers and sisters who want something for nothing, who think by just landing in US, their problems are over. Alas, the truth hits them BAM! In the face when they get off the plane and see fellow Nigerians waiting at the airports begging for connection and business form you that just came in! I am happy for you all who say they dont regret it, but I still feel bad when I remember those Nigerians languishing at the backyard of civilization, I mean those people that will never come here to say something, because they cannot afford internet connection. |

darkman200: Your problem seems to be you are not making enough money and still think anyone will be envious of your broke azz. If you are comfortable you wouldnt be complaining about the few visitors you have over there. Where have brotherly love gone to? What of we in naija that have relatives living in our houses all year round? |

ROSSIKE: Dont mind them, what will they not do to justify bashing Nigeria, even for those who dont know where Nigeria is. Its very cheap to be a critic, e-warriors. Many of them failed miserably here and are afraid to come and face facts here. justwise: Continue to decieve yourself. You are not better than any of those policeman, is he worse than you who would lie, cheat, steal, do yahoozie and marry an old woman jsut to get papers? His own is lighter. |

justwise: Very petty, especially when you place them side by side with the horror flicks we watch every night on Crime and investigation channel. How do you compare kidnapping in naija with that of Mexico, Colombia? Yet you will give an arm to be smuggled into that country in a barrel! Hypocrisy! justwise: Just overblown cases by people like you looking for excuses to hide you poor azz in one obscure country where the crime rate is much higher. I still maintain that I have not been robbed neither anyone I know. |

GL: Sorry but non Yorubas living in Lagos dont work for yorubas, dont know where you got your info from but most are ibo and constitute more than 60% of the population, so they have the numeric advantage and language control. Many also own houses there. But go and ask them how they flee from Lagos riots or how much they have lost in properties when trouble erupts. To call a foreign country home is the height of deceit. |
Travel / Re: Do You Regret Moving Abroad? by invisible2(m): 5:26pm On Nov 13, 2010 |
dayokanu: Sometimes while watching foreign news about crime, I realize we dont even have crime here. What we have are overblown isolated cases of petty crime. Watch reality TV about serial rap.ists and other violent crime and you will see who the real criminals are. I dont know anybody who has been robbed in broad dayight here, I dont know anyone police have shot, I only hear about Nigerians killed in London schools, teenagers that died because of racism. Our police are even timid and afraid of us. I shouted on one last week and see as he was begging me, thinking am a law officer. |

REAL TRUTH: For those who moved legally, have good jobs and are caring for their families who cared for him during his younger years, there will be no problem. The problem is the negative picture we paint of ourselves in our greed to look for the easy way out. I wonder how many Americans who will run from their countries to stay here all because he wants to find a 'home' in Lagos. The bottom line is money, our attempts to seek out easy wealth which most times lead to crime when we cannot legitimately acquire enough to satisfy our need. If most Nigerians are suffering, it is as a direct result of their understanding about life, have it ever occured to you that staying in naija is also a choice, or that some people cannot take some dehumanizing treatments meted out to Nigerians abroad despite the money involved. Stripping women for toto, sorry total search is one of such. As to why Nigerians marry whites, clearly for economic reasons. Those you mentioned may be affluent but the vast majority do so for social security. The white man will never trust, like you and for you to love the whites to the extent of marrying them is regrettable. For those of them that marry our girls, check surname of the girl and you will understand. The save Nigeria group may have its own agendas so is no reason to conclude we are suffering. Its not the 10 billion dollars remitted that worries me, its the trillions lost to foreign govts as taxes and rates. Its the lost opportunites and brain drain tht should frighten us more. |

yaya:9ja: Same things happen when you guys come visiting, drive my car around for days and expect me to fuel the ride, live in my apartment like its a hotel and even make eyes at my babes! At the end of their stay, they thank you and tell you how lucky you are to be in naija, yet they hop on the next flight and leave. I wonder if they forgot their dollars abroad, lol. |
