Super Falcons earn second win at Turkish Women’s Cup

Nigeria’s Head Coach, Randy Waldrum has made a provisional list of 25 players for the upcoming Summer Series tour of the United States of America, where the nine-time African champions will play four-time world champions USA, Portugal, and Jamaica.

The gaffer handed Sunshine Queens defender, Tosin Demehin and Rivers Angels forward, Vivian Ikechukwu their first call-up after their fantastic performance at the 2020/2021 Nigeria Women Football League (NWFL) Premiership Super Six.

Waldrum has made it known that 23 players will make the trip to the US, meaning two players will be dropped from the provisional squad.

Team captain Asisat Oshoala, fresh from becoming the first African player to earn a UEFA Women Champions Cup gold, tops the list with veteran defender Onome Ebi, youthful goalkeeper Chiamaka Nnadozie, midfielder Halimatu Ayinde and forward Rasheedat Ajibade also called. Waldrum has included 10 home-based players in the provisional squad.

Matches will be played at the BBVA Stadium in Houston and at the brand-new, $240million Q2 Stadium in Austin built by the newest club in the Major League Soccer, Austin FC. Both cities are in the State of Texas and the clash between the Super Falcons and the US Women A team will be the first-ever football match at the state-of-the-art Q2.

The glamour tournament will run between 10th – 16th June and will see the Super Falcons clashing with their Jamaican counterparts in Houston on the 10th before taking on Portugal three days later at the same BBVA Stadium. Their last match is against the USA squad, four-time winners of the FIFA World Cup and four-time winners of the Olympic football gold, at the Q2 Stadium on 16th June.

The USA is the only one of the four teams in the Summer Series that will compete in the 2021 Tokyo Olympics. The match against Nigeria will mark the first time the USA has ever faced the Super Falcons outside of a world championship and it will be just the third-ever friendly against an African country, with the previous two coming against South Africa.

You all know in reality prayer doesn't work right ?

Can u buy a car with 500k?

Why will Germany capped a division 4 goalkeeper ? even if we didn't cap him the best he can get is u23 call up but i can see a lot bundesliga team trying to sign him

wayodude:
Of course! But this time last year he was in Division 4...and we capped him regardless and it has ended up in a in-win situation for both parties. A win for the Super Eagles and win for him!

No loss to Germany....because if they valued him as much as we did and still do they should have capped him whilst he was in Division 4! abi no be so?

Germany would have take notice by now and make it very difficult for us to cap him

wayodude:
Imagine us trying to cap him now. He will say he is thinking!
Shout out goes to Rohr for correctly having the belief in inviting him to the team as a division 3 or was it 4 player and also to the fans for now crying foul louder than they did.
He Okoye will also be thankful to Rohr.

Both Nwakali are iwobi are bang average ...what has Nwakali done in his career ? Nothing , neither iwobi or nwakali is the solutions to super eagle AMF problem

Omanambala:
First of all , you can't just pick one aspect of the game , compare the players and done with it. If you were reading me right then you would know I was talking about position and effectiveness. Who doesn't know Nwakali is a natural midfield operator. He has proven this and still proving it at his current club.

Creative play is not about assist but making the team better with purpose and clearity by playing the right passes, holding ball when the need arises.

We dont need a midfield that can assist goals ,but one who commands and dictate the direction of the team to make them play better and win. Iwobi is not a player with vision and Nwakali has it.

We must play that invitational tournament in usa , that is a rare opportunity to test our team against the best

Historic First-Ever Match at Q2 Stadium Will Feature U.S. Women's National Team Vs. Nigeria on Wednesday, June 16th
May 6, 2021

The U.S. Women’s National Team match at Q2 Stadium will be the first-ever visit to Austin by a U.S. Soccer National Team; June 16 match is part of the 2021 U.S. Women’s National Team Summer Series; Three nights later, on Saturday, June 19, Austin FC will play its historic Major League Soccer home opener against the San Jose Earthquakes

Austin, Texas – Q2 Stadium, the state-of-the-art, 20,500-seat home of Austin FC, announced today that it will host the reigning FIFA Women’s World Cup Champion U.S. Women’s National Team (USWNT) in an exhibition match against Nigeria on Wednesday, June 16, at 8:00pm CDT, as part of the 2021 WNT Summer Series. The USWNT match versus Nigeria will be the first-ever match to be played at Q2 Stadium, the $260 million, privately-financed soccer stadium in Austin. The match, which will be nationally televised on ESPN2, marks the debut of U.S. Soccer’s senior team in the capital city as neither the USWNT nor U.S. Men’s National Team have previously staged a match in Austin.

“We are both thrilled and honored that the first-ever match at Q2 Stadium will feature the four-time FIFA World Champions,” commented Austin FC President, Andy Loughnane. “Hosting the USWNT at Q2 Stadium speaks to the world-class nature of our city, our facilities, and the popularity of the sport in our region.”

“We are extremely excited for U.S. Women’s National Team to play the first soccer match at Austin FC’s Q2 Stadium,” commented U.S. Women’s National Team Head Coach, Vlatko Andonovski. “The development of Austin FC has been impressive and fun to watch, and the way the community has embraced the Club is inspiring. We can’t wait to play there and feel that energy.”

The USWNT Summer Series will also feature matches against Portugal and Jamaica on June 10 and 13, respectively, followed by the match at Q2 Stadium against Nigeria on June 16 (ESPN2). Three (3) nights later Saturday, June 19, Austin FC will play its historic MLS home opener against the San Jose Earthquakes at 8:00pm CDT.

The June 16 match against Nigeria at Q2 Stadium will be the final USWNT international game before U.S. Women’s National Team Head Coach Andonovski names the 18-player Olympic Team roster. The USA will also play two (2) Olympic Send-Off Matches in early July before leaving for Japan. At the Olympic Final Draw on April 21, the USA was placed into Group G where it will face Sweden (July 21 in Tokyo), New Zealand (July 24 in Saitama) and Australia (July 27 in Kashima) during group play.

The match against Nigeria at Q2 Stadium will also mark the first time the USA has ever faced the Super Falcons outside of a world championship. It will be just the third-ever exhibition match against an African country, with the previous two (2) coming against South Africa.

Ticket information for the June 16 match at Q2 Stadium will be released by U.S. Soccer in the coming weeks.
