The dog just dosnt know when to lay off shit. Davidylan it seems like you are either blind or you just simply cannot recognised when you are being ignored.

Look around the post, from its beginning to now and show me where anyone has paid any attention to any rat tail you have mentioned. Ok, let me spell it out for you goat, YOUR OPINIONS ARE NOT NEEDED, Now go to Religion and curse Allah.

You reminds me of my History Teacher back in Secondary school, Mass amount of Knowledge, just doesn't know how to apply it, when, where nor How, Having said all that, please refrain from quoting or responding to anything I have to say. Kobojunkie, and others are doing an excellent job. Now git,

@Mamajama,
Sorry I just saw your post. I think I may have to take your advice. Seems as though Kobo and crew have been totally brainwashed.( LOl, ) Kobo no offense. I am enjoying the argument,

@Kobo, BTW did you know that when The Mass Exodus of Cuba left after the revolution, most of them were prisoners? Yes! Castro opened his jails and set them free so that they can migrate mostly to Florida. One thing America has NOT taken away from Cubans is their intelligence. They are the best doctors you can find anywhere in the world. And although they are limited in resources they continue to survive on what little they have. You must visit one day and make sure you take a spin on one of their locally made bikes. Your Okadas in Lagos have nothing on them, grin

VIVE LA REVOLUCCION!!!!!

MY dad's (RIP) had a famous quote which goes like this "Education Is NOT common sense" and I have been witnessing this daily on this forum. For the LAST time( and I refuse to repeat myself again) If the USA had not meddled into Cuba's political dilemma, and muddied their hands there would have absolutely be NO need whatsoever to expect a penny from them. Case closed!!!

@Kobojunkie, thanks for the link. I had the opportunity to glance at it( hands are relly full at work right now) A quick note though. On the topic of agriculture, yes Cuba( the larges Island in the entire Caribbean) is very fertile and has vast sugarcane, and tobacco plantations. However, due to the inneficiency of many of its machineries, production has been scaled back. Now remember the vechicles brought to Cuba before the revolution were ALL US made. After the revolution no spare parts etc have since been allowed into the country, thus many are either not working or not working well. Yes they were able to import parts from Germany and RUSSIA. But can you feed "fish" oil to "birds" and expect them to function the same way, or even survive

I made a point a few days ago, which was miscontruded and taken totally out of context( not surprized at all) regarding the infrastruture in Nueve La Habana( New Havana). The reason I did that was drive home the point that The USA was slowly but surely transforming Cuba, from its Spanish outlook to an American one. Now remember as I earlier stated, Fidel, Che et al were to do their dirty work then later cast aside. The USA ONLY retaliated against Castro because of losing everything they had invested in the island, And I do understand their grieviences, although I rfuse to empathise with them. I must however, give them some props, "The dry-foot, Wet-foot" policy. This is just a last minute ditch to offer some solace to the poor Cubans for destroying their lives.

Kobo, you also mentioned whether or not the UK should do likewise. And to that I say a big YES. We are all responsible for our actions. I still hold "grudges" against Europeans for ravaging our islands, exiling the Caribs and Arawaks and indoctrinating us with their beliefs. The truth is the USA and others(unless stopped) will forever continue to blatantly play "God", if we continue to allow them.

PS. Cubans are very appreciative of the large number of European( most Italian) tourists who visit their shores each year. Canadians as well come in large numbers. Their tourist dollar has aided the economy.
Fidel will soon past away, but one thing I know, the USA will forever has blood on its hands. Not only for Cuba, but for all the other countries they have wronged.
Politics / Re: Why Was Che Guevara Killed By The CIA? by Islander(f): 3:24pm On Jan 04, 2008
@Kobo,
YES! The USA, just like any other nation, has the right to trade with whom ever it so deems fit. However, when the issue at hand involves a nation that was basically built and later patterned by the US I feel it is only right that they take full responsibility.

As I have been preaching from the beginning of my posts, if it were NOT the USA I would have felt the very same way.

Ok Kobo so maybe I was fed Propaganda. Well it was done from both sides I guess. Then again as my mother always said there are 3 sides to a story, My side, your side and the TRUTH!!

If you were to do an extentive research I am postiviely certain more than 70% of the defectors from Cuba would tell you did so NOT out of hatred for my "pally" Fidel but rather due to the economy. Afterall, survival should be of utmost importance.

And I do agree that it is time for Fidel to step down. His health is fading among other things. I however, admire him for standing up to the US and allowing them to have their way as they always do,

PS, Let me divert a bit. I just had to get this in. Here is another of the US's trick they tried to inflict on us. In 1995 they had a few of the Islands PM's signed this document called "The Ship-riders effect" what that did was give them the right to come to islands at a specific time each year with helicopters and burn our marijuana. According to the USA, they were helping to save our youths from drugs. Laughing my effing ass off. The reason why I love my present PM is because he of what he stands for. When he took over power he kicked their asses off the island and got rid of that document, and the others follow suit. You see, what the US was reallying doing was destroying our potent ganja so that their weakass, home-grown pot would have a market. The US coming to help eradicate drugs in the islands when this country has more addicts than Pastors. LOL.

Anyway I am at work, I will check back periodically.

Kobo, I am waiting for more, keep them coming, yo hear?
Politics / Re: Why Was Che Guevara Killed By The CIA? by Islander(f): 2:39pm On Jan 04, 2008
@Nuzo
Yes I am. This issues touches close to home. As a West Indian growing up in the islands I can vividly recalled hating Fidel and everything he stood for all because of the propaganda we were fed by the USA.

Thank God in 1997, when we changed government and the new Prime Minister rallied the OECS( Organisation Of Eastern Caribbean States) to defy the threats made by the US( they had planned to stop exporting our agricultural produces if we made friends with Cuba) and unite with our fellow Cubans.

Seems that my point of the US trading with Cuba is very must mis-understood. The USA had intentions of claiming Cuba for itself just like it did Puerto Rico, thus it had large investments there. They (USA) gave Fidel all he and his men needed to take out Batista and then turned around and abandoned the Cubans when Fidel preventing them from pulling his strings.

Just like a father is responsible for a child when he impregnates its mother, so too is the USA responsible for Cuba. I stand firm in this belief and no one can deter me.

Fidel is no saint. He has done some questionable deeds ( and so too has the leaders of the USA, past, present and those to come) However, the bigger picture here is that the embargo is NOT, let me reiterate NOT hurting Castro, but the poor Cubans.

USA is a good country but some of the policies and interference in other country is horrendous. The list goes on and on

MOBUTE sese seko and Charles Taylor are some prime example. The USA aided and funded this lunatics, and once they do not need them any more, they leave them to self destruct. this is why most people are so outrage with the USA policies

Thank you very much. Unlike the majority here whom for whatever reasons refused to admit that the US has serious issues regarding the handling other countries welfare.

@Kobojunkie, sorry I couldn't return yesterday. I was in the slammer. This resulted from having to deal with my Internet stalker, whom by the way I have been reported to the US Attorney General's office.
Now back to business. I forgot to mention yesterday that Cuba's situation is NOT the only such. Take Norriego's( not sure of the spelling). How about Saddam? These are just of few of the USA's made dictators. The USA set them up for power with the intention of 'running' their shows. Only to have their plans backfired in their faces.

I am not at all saying that the USA is all bad. The truth is they need to change many of their policies. And I strongly think they should begin with Cuba, moreso the embargo.

We are not in 1957. We are in the year 2008, over 50 years now since 1957. The world has moved on to a point where the USA does not control it all, has not for almost 50 years now. The Embargo was not and never was on the rest of the world not doing business with CUBA but on USA not doing business with Cuba. Cuba can always get cars and what nots from other countries that america itself gets the same from.

The USA is NOT, get it, NOT obligated to finish anything in CUBA. The Usa has a right to give scholarships to whomever it chooses to. Heck even those of us living in the USA do not get Scholarships why then do you think you MUST get it. Remember, that money happens to come from the pockets of people like me, yet I do not get any scholarship money myself.

Please, please please, BASH REASONABLY,  Have solid reasons please. Cause I almost get this picture that you do not realize the money comes from the pockets of individual americans in this. I tried to attend an island medical school myself and I NEVER GOT SCHOLARSHIP MONEY OF ANY KIND MYSELF. Are you seriously trying to tell me that you are miffed at the USA for not giving you scholarship money, so when CUBA gives it means USA is evil?? Please find reason.

1. we are at this very said discussion due to what the USA started before 1957, so that answers my next point.  yes they are obligated to CUBA. so tell me, when a man pregnants a lady he is not entitled to his responsiblilites?

2. Don't you dare insult me.  I work my ass off to pay my tuition and so too did my sister and my brother. My mentioning of the scholarship scenario was jus to highlight another of the USA's many flaws,

Listen you can preach John Paul and speak in tongues, It is what it is, The USA needs to repent and get baptized, And no 'bashing". we are having a civil discussion.
Politics / Re: Why Was Che Guevara Killed By The CIA? by Islander(f): 6:13pm On Jan 02, 2008
@I man
couldnt quote(lappy acitng up)
Anyway, to answer your questions. Again it is as a direct result of the embargo why Cuba is in such a state. Now you are forgetting here that before 1945 the USA was more less Cuba's "papa". So when they integrated that embargo it drastically hampered the economy. What made it even more devastating was that the USA tried to pressure countries like Canada and England from offering aid to the Cuba.

Look growing up as I child in the islands, there was so much propoganda about Fidel that I hated with man with a passion. Look at the invasion of Grenada. The USA lied about their students at St. Georges' Medical school being threatened. When CNN interviewed them they declined. within 12 mins that portion was edited.

The truth is the USA has its evil side and the sooner people start accepting this the better. If we continue to sing their praises even when they are off key the unequalities of this world would continue,
Politics / Re: Why Was Che Guevara Killed By The CIA? by Islander(f): 6:06pm On Jan 02, 2008
Kobojunkie:

I am glad we have established two things here. You know that the USA is not the only country actually involved in trading goods and services with Cuba as we speak and the USA is doing it's share. So why then do you have this idea that the USA should be Cuba's saviour in this?? @Islander. If there are over 100 other countries that Cuba could do business with and many of them are doing their share, why do you place the burden of the situation in cuba on USA and not one the cuban system itself??

Again, I will use Nigeria as an example to help you see what I see you doing. Nigeria supplies about 25% of the oil used in the USA, majority of the people in Nigeria are living in miserable situations down there. Why would anyone have cause to blame the USA for the situation in Nigeria when 1) Nigeria is not America neither is it an extension of the USA. 2) Nigerians have their own leaders, laws and system to work for them ??

Ok, now I am sure you are aware of what Cuba used to be like before 1959.  It was next in  line to be the next Puerto Rico.  In short it was the USA stomping ground.  The USA was responsible for aiding Fidel in ousting Batista and his regime with the sole intention of snatching  power from Fidel after him and Che and crew would have already done their dirty job. ( sounds familiar?)

Yes there are other countries capable of offering help to Castro, but why should they when the USA was the one who had been "running" the show there.

When you visit Havana( nueve Habana) if you aren't careful you may think you on the upper East or West sides of Manhattan.  The USA was gradually remaking Cuba into little USA.

My point, they started it all, so why not finish it.  Has Fidel done things that he shouldnt have? hell yes. However, I will not stand by and see people (most of whom are just vomitting the poison the USA has fed them) bash a man who deserves some respect

The USA tried to turn the other Caribbean Islands away from Cuba. yet when we needed scholarships to study they denied us yet offered them to Middle easterners, who interm has become nothing but thorns in their flesh.  Castro on the other hand opened up his universities to Islanders to study FREE of cost.

I ( and many West Indians) are NOT prepare to throw out the baby with the bath water, lo siento senor,

I-man:

ICase closed t guess 3 years of studying in a Cuban University,as part of some Cuban Govt programme, makes one the definitive expert on the views of 12 million Cubans.hen.

This is absolutely stunning. Isn't the US perfectly entitled to determine who it can have have economic relations with? If the US decides not to trade with Cuba, why should any one blame the US for Cuba's current problems? If I decide not to trade with a person, the person has no business attacking me for his poverty.

This misses a larger issue. How many nations run on a communist economic model were successful? None, even Cuba's benefactor,Soviet Union, collapsed.Cuba's problem lies with its adoption of a model proven to be a failure throughout the world.I know economic illiterates will point to China but if you think China's economic model is still communist, you need enlightenment!

Alternatively,we can lick the asses of Commies grin Its better to lick the ass of a successful system than to lick one of a known failure.

The irony is that most of the reports you get in the West about Cuba are actually sympathetic to Castro.

The simple issue is-between a communist dictator who has held on to power since 1959 and can't provide his people a world class standard of living,on one hand, and a free market democracy which we all flock to,lining up like desperate people applying for a visa,I know which one is much preferable.

We can do all the paeans to Castro we like but nobody, including many Cubans, wants to live in a dictatorship that offers little economic opportunity and even lesser civil liberties protection.

subject to correction, Show me where did i even imply that?

My point is that the state of the cuban economy is directly related to the embargo that the US placed on the country. Transportation is one of the major issues affecting Cubans. Getting from point A to B is a hassle. Why? the cars there were manufactured before 1959( american cars) and since there is no way of getting equipment in, then it created a problem.

Cubans are very intelligent and skillful people. So dispite of the embargo they have been able to fend for themselves. Its high time the US realises that the embargo is only hurting the citizens, not Fidel and lift it, for peace sake

No one is saying Fidel is a God. However, I repect and admire his stance against the USA. They need to know that they cannor run every body's show. I believe when the time for him to leave he will. Until such time, let him show Bush and his crew that size has nothing to do with it,

Sure there are persons from cuba who will say they do not have a problem with the system there. By the way, I do have cuban friends and have been in some discussions with them to understand what their problem with the system is. I do not think that being realistic about the fact that many of the cubans who migrated to the USA do so cause they have a bette chance in the USA means one is an a** licker. I would say you look at this 360 to understand what many of these people see from the outside.
A system, whatever it is, is supposed to be in place to help provide the people with a better quality of living at most any cost. What does it benefit a people if they continue on a path that has fraught with misery and danger for the very people the system is supposed to protect.  Look away from Cuban-USA relationship for a second and look at your own dear Nigeria. The reason why we decided to move to democracy was cause we realized that millitary rule was not for us. I am sure there are many in the country who would love to see the days of Babangida and Abacha back, for their own reasons but the fact remains that the majority opposed millitary rule and so we find ourselves where we are today. We made a change, why?? So the people can have a better chance at a better life. Now apply the same reasoning to systems around the world that are not to the benefit of the people but for those ruling the people and their egos and I hope you see why the cubans who escape their country at all cost, even risking death to leave, are speaking out against the system, regardless of whatever reason they gave for leaving??

Now about the embargo you speak of, I seriously think you should educate yourself on the current state of that with Cuba. Many people do not know this but american companies have been doing business with cuba for some years now. http://www.historyofcuba.com/history/funfacts/embargo.htm  and there are a couple of bills in the works to increase the number in years to come. Already many countries around the world have already been doing business with cuba and I believe that would include canada. Please look this information up to understand the REAL state of things down there.

1.  My mention of asslickers was aimed at immigrants who have migrated to the west and now refuse to admit anything the west even if it is blatantly wrong.

Nairaland / General / Re: Your New Year Resolutions For 2008? by Islander(f): 4:14pm On Jan 02, 2008
I am not really good on keeping resolutions but I will try.

1. To save more and spend less

2. To become less concerned about other people's problems and focus more on me. I have realised I cannot save the world.

3. To finally pay those 2 traffic tickets, LOL,

4. To be less irritated by Nairalanders,
