Crime78-year-old Man Arrested For Raping Girl, 11years Old (Photo) by Islie(op): 3:20am On Aug 17, 2015
The police in Lagos have arrested a 78-year-old man, Alhaji Dauda Adebowale, for allegedly raping an 11-year-old girl, Remilekun (pseudonym).

The incident was said to have happened in Pen Cinema, in the Agege area of the state.

Our correspondent learnt that sometime in June 2015, Remilekun was passing by a shop where the old man, who hails from Abeokuta, Ogun State, lived when he called to send her on an errand.

When she returned, he was said to have dragged her into the shop and raped her, threatening to kill her if she divulged the act to anyone.

He was said to be living alone in the shop.

PUNCH Metro gathered that Adebowale cashed in on the minor’s fear and thereafter raped her on several occasions.

However, trouble started for the suspect on Sunday, August 2, when Remilekun, who was reportedly sleeping beside her mother in the afternoon of the fateful day, suddenly woke up, shouting ‘penis, penis’ to the amazement of the mother.

The woman, who did not want her name in print, said haggard-looking Remilekun opened up to her after she pestered her.

She said, “On that Sunday, I was ill and was sleeping. She also slept beside me. She suddenly cried out, shouting, ‘penis, penis, penis’. I was shocked. When I asked her what happened, she said it was a man on our street that had been having sex with her.

“I followed her to the man’s house. Some boys confronted him and he confessed to them. I then reported him at the Area G Police Command in Ogba and he was arrested. I took my daughter to a hospital for tests because she has become lean. The medical result showed that her vagina had been tampered with and I have given it to the police.”

The victim, a primary two pupil, who spoke with our correspondent in Yoruba, said she could not count the number of time the septuagenarian had raped her, adding that she dared the threat because she could no longer bear the harassment.

She said, “I was passing by a shop on our street one Saturday afternoon when he called me. He was sitting outside the shop and told me to help him bring a document inside the shop. I was about to leave after I gave him the document when he dragged me inside and locked the door.

“He covered my mouth and raped me. He threatened to kill me if I told anybody. The following day, he called me again and repeated the same thing. I can’t remember how many times he had sex with me. Whenever I told him I would tell my mother, he would say I was playing with my life.

“When I could no longer bear it, I opened up to a woman in our area and she promised that she would make sure the man was evicted from the shop.

“It was few days after that my mother said she heard me shout ‘penis’ while I was asleep.”

Remilekun’s sister, Tokunbo (pseudonym) said she had narrowly escaped being trapped by the suspect not knowing that her younger sister had fallen victim.

She said, “He called me two weeks ago and told me that he liked me. He promised to take care of me if I cooperated.

“I said I did not understand and managed to run away. I told my mother when I got home and she warned me to stay off his reach.”

The suspect was arraigned before an Ikeja Magistrates’ Court on three counts bordering on rape.

The charges read in part, “That you, Alhaji Dauda Adebowale, 78, sometime in 2015, at a shop in Pen Cinema, Agege, Lagos, in the Ikeja Magisterial District, did have sexual intercourse with one 11-year-old girl.

“That you, within the same period and place in the aforementioned magisterial district, did sexually assault one 11-year-old girl.”

The accused, however, pleaded not guilty to the charges which, according to the police, contravene sections 137, 166 and 257 of the Criminal Law II, Vol. 44 of Lagos State, Nigeria, 2011.

The presiding magistrate, Mr. T. Elias, granted the defendant bail in the sum of N1m with two sureties each in like sum.

While adjourning the matter till September 2, 2015, Elias ordered that the man be kept in prison custody pending the time he would be able to perfect his bail.

PoliticsAPC Chief Asks Buhari To Probe Patience Jonathan by Islie(op): 3:45pm On Aug 16, 2015
Factional Chairman, All Progressives Congress in Bayelsa State, Chief Perekeme Kpodo, has urged President Muhammadu Buhari to beam his administration’s probe searchlight on former First Lady, Dame Patience Jonathan.

He said such a development would unravel the financial excesses allegedly perpetrated by Patience in Abuja and Bayelsa State.

Kpodo, former Interim Chairman of the defunct New Peoples Democratic Party, stated this in an interview on Sunday.

He said, “There is the urgent need to probe the former First Lady, Dame Patience Jonathan, for her excesses during her husband’s reign. Many of the ministers during the administration of Goodluck Jonathan were her nominees and so she should be investigated also.

“Her antecedents during and after the last general elections must not be forgotten so easily. She was one of the people who turned Aso Rock to a toll gate. The same thing happened to Bayelsa State as treasury was looted. All these must not be swept under the carpet. We are fully in support of President Muhammadu Buhari on his probe.”

The former Special Adviser on Security in Bayelsa State commended the President on how he had been steering the ship of the country since he mounted the saddle of leadership, stressing that Buhari would offer Nigerians the needed change the party promised during its electioneering.

He said because of Buhari’s tough stance on corruption, many would-be lobbyists for ministerial appointments were scared of him.

Kpodo also applauded Buhari for the appointment of substantive coordinator for Presidential Amnesty Programme for the Niger Delta.

He said the gesture would tackle the rising agitation in the region, particularly with the issue of payment of stipends to ex-agitators and meeting the obligations of Niger Delta students on amnesty scholarships abroad.

The defendant, Musibau, an Alfa, while responding to the allegations, said he admitted the claims of the plaintiff, but did not want the court to give the plaintiff the custody of the child because she cannot take care of him.

CelebritiesAt 62, Kollington Still Hot In Bed, Says Young Wife by Islie(op): 9:45pm On Aug 15, 2015
Fuji Maestro Alhaji Kollington Ayinla, popularly referred to as Kebe N Kwara, has always been a big bag of tricks that is as unpredictable, as sweet as the beautiful music he plays. In the 1980s when he was at his prime, news of his sexual escapades were always in the air and instead of it bothering him, he actually reveled in it.
25 years down the line, it doesn’t appear he is slowing down as his young wife who now lives with him confessed to one of our reporters that the acclaimed ‘General’ of Fuji is as hot in bed as ever.
The said reporter had gone to interview the ‘Baba Alatika’ as he is called in some quarters, at his Alagbado residence and found him to be in good health and of delightful disposition. Throughout the interview session, he was said to be of good cheer and took on questions with candour, even though, he took exceptions to answering some sensitive ones which he perceived as sheer effrontery to his private life. Nonetheless, he was a consummate host, our reporter claimed he would want to visit him again.
It was while the lively interview was going on when his wife, simply called Hajia showed up clad in the conventional veil the Muslims call Hijab. On sighting her,the reporter invited her to join in the conversation but her reply nearly knocked her off the chair she was sitting.
“Please leave me alone for now, Alhaji has just reduced me to near nothing in bed”, she said, obviously revealing they just had sex.
Like a shark, it was a smell of blood to our reporter, who went for the kill by asking her if the Fuji Maestro is still very active in bed at his age. “ Please leave me alone, this man can kill in bed. I don’t want to talk about it” she replied and retired into the inner rooms, looking truly worn out.

■ ‘I was raped by every member of the cult on the day of my initiation’
■ She was lucky only 20 slept with her –Male student suspect

BY NGOZI UWUJARE AND CHIZOBA IKENWA

In recent times, the police have beamed their searchlight on cult activities across the country. This has led to several raids that have yielded results in Lagos, Anambra and Rivers states, as cultists were rounded up in their hundreds. Among those arrested was a 16-year-old girl, Ifechukwu Atunanya, who claimed that she was forced to sleep with every male member of the cult during her initiation. Recovered from them were guns, matchet and several wraps of Indian hemp.

Ifechukwu was among 75 suspected cult members who were rounded up by Anambra State Police command on July 3, 2015. All the suspects were alleged to be members of the Supreme Vikings Confraternity and were all arrested in a bush in Awka during the initiation of new members.
According to the state Commissioner of Police, Hosea Karma, the police acted on an intelligence report that the cult members and their new entrants were in a bush performing some rituals. The raid was conducted by the Anti-Cultism Squad led by Supol Dickson Osamuonyi.

Part of their ritual, he explained, includes sleeping with female intending members. He said they do that in order to secure their oath of secrecy. It was during the raid that 16-year-old Ifechukwu was arrested.

At the police station, Ifechukwu, a secondary school dropout and member, claimed that she had to travel to Anambra from Abuja just to witness the initiation of new members. “I joined them three months ago and during my initiation, I was forced to have sex with every registered member of the cult present that night. I was given a sedative so as not to feel what they were doing. It was not easy, but I bore the pain,” she said.

Her parents, who are from Anambra State, are still alive. However, Ifechukwu said that they were not aware of her secret cult activities. “I got to know about the cult activity through a friend. She assured me that all the connection that I needed in this life will be made if I joined the group. I am from a poor family and I wanted to be the light that will change the situation in my family.

“She never told me that I will be raped till the day of initiation. The day we were initiated, I was the only girl in their midst. Although, I have not started reaping the gains, I was determined to be a successful member. I was further convinced to stay because I discovered that they are more honourable than the others. I am sorry and would love to be given the opportunity to go back to school. I never knew that it is crime to be a member. I am sorry,” Ifechukwu pleaded.

Another member, Ugochukwu Agbazuo, who also spoke with Saturday Sun, said that they are all undergraduates of various institutions in Anambra. “Apart from some of our national leaders, we are all students. I was initiated into the cult while I was still in my first year. I had no choice but to join them because of the harassment in school. I discovered that most of the Engineering students in my school were members of different cult groups.

“Again, if you identify with a known cult in school, the lecturers will respect you. You don’t have to buy handouts or offer bribe to get credit in a course. This was why I joined them,” he said.

Ugochukwu insisted that they did not steal or harass innocent people. “The guns that were found with us were bought in case there was a clash in school. It is our leaders who are all graduates and working across the country that normally assist us to secure the arms. It is strictly for defence and one of the rules of our group is that you must read and pass your exams on merit.”

On the issue of rape, Ugochukwu said it only happened with female members. A female intending member cannot undergo the rigorous process during the initiation. So, our leaders suggested that the best way to get them under oath is for every registered member to have sex with her during initiation. She would be semi-conscious during the process so that she will not physically feel the pain. Ifechukwu’s case was better because we were only 20 registered men present on her day of initiation. All of our female members were raped,” he further said.

In Rivers, 201 arrested

Also in Rivers State, detectives attached to the Anti-Robbery and kidnapping squad arrested over 127 suspected cultists while the Anti-cultism section rounded up over 74 others base in Port Harcourt. The state Commissioner of Police, Chris Ezike who confirmed their arrest, explained that the command was embarrassed by the high wave of kidnapping and armed robbery incident in the state. “We launched Operation Keep Moving which was flagged off by Rivers State Governor, Barrister Nyesom Wike on July 2, 2015. The Operation Keep Moving is proving to be a success. We will not stop or be complacent, the march is on and we must deliver on our promise to make Rivers State peaceful, secure and safe. Investigation revealed that most of them were also notorious armed robber and kidnappers who had unleashed terror in the state in the past.

“We recovered several AK 47 rifles, locally made guns, locally made revolver pistols; several pump action and 12 motorcycles. Meanwhile, they have different cult groups known as Dey-Gbam, Dey-well, Iceland and Vikings. The suspects will be charged to court at the end of investigation,” CP Ezike said.

In Lagos, 38 were arrested

In Lagos, policemen attached to the Rapid Response Squad (RRS) arrested 38 suspects who were alleged to be members of cult groups in Somolu area of the state. The team had responded to distress calls from concerned citizens about criminal activities and other unlawful engagements in the area. According to the tip-off, the suspected cult members had announced that they were going to initiate new members of public who were interested. The team of RRS operatives, headed by Supol Olabode Aroge, immediately moved to scene. Those arrested were 29 male and nine females. They were immediately conveyed to the squad’s headquarters in Alausa, for further interrogation.

Following police’s investigation, the suspects were said to among cultists and social miscreants disturbing the area. “The suspects are terrorizing law abiding citizens in the area while some of them are specialists in bag and handsets snatching, pick-pocketing and such other nefarious activities both in the and day and at night.

PoliticsBuhari’s Search For Saints As Ministers Will Fail – Senator Urhoghide by Islie(op): 4:13am On Aug 15, 2015
By Emmanuel Aziken, Political Editor & Gabriel Enogholase

The jury is still out on whether Matthew Urhoghide has finished paying for his sins of radicalism. After years of unionist struggle that climaxed with his election as president of the Students Union in the University of Benin, his bid to enter mainstream politics in his native Edo State in 1999 was for 15 years laced with several disappointments.
In every election cycle he made all the waves, galvanised the electorate but when it mattered most, he was always left in the cold!

Urhoghide’s fate until his recent election to the Senate was essentially because of his own inclination to walk in the public arena. Many of his associates from his school days like the former journalist, Segun Babatope preferred to work behind the scenes. But not Urhoghide, a man who fought the system from outside as a student’s activist and decided to reform it from inside!
In his first outing in 1999 when he sought the governorship ticket of Edo State on the platform of the defunct All Peoples Party, APP, he was roundly routed despite a popular campaign that galvanised many youths.
He suffered the same stamp of defeat in 2003 in the hands of Senator Roland Owie, who had just left the former Peoples Democratic Party, PDP.
He did not give up and in 2007 instead of seeking state wide office, he now sought the Edo South senatorial ticket of the opposition All Nigeria Peoples Party, ANPP. For the first time he was on ticket for a general election but was overwhelmed by the PDP’s nationwide blitz that year.
Despite his own loss, his formidable political machine was helpful in gathering the election data with which Comrade Adams Oshiomhole used in prosecuting his election petition at the tribunal.
With the Action Congress of Nigeria, ACN in power in Edo State it was believed that Urhoghide’s time had finally come in 2011 when he again sought the Senate ticket of the ACN.
He was surprisingly disappointed by the last minute intrigues that shadowed the emergence of the ACN senatorial candidate in 2011. Urhoghide’s unhidden bid was derailed after Comrade Oshiomhole joined forces with Senator Ehighie Uzamere as a quid pro quo for the latter’s own help. Uzamere had helped Oshiomhole to defeat the PDP’s forces as led by Chief Tony Anenih during the Senate confirmation hearings of the Edo State nominees for the Niger Delta Development Commission, NDDC.

Some would have also suggested that Oshiomhole or the Benin electorate was also paying Uzamere a hand of gratitude for his own role in seeing to the first ever appointment of a Bini man as both vice-chancellor of the University of Benin and the Nigerian Institute for Oil Palm Research, NIFOR.
Willy-nilly, Uzamere”s reward became Urhoghide’s loss.
It was, however, a stinging loss for Urhoghide and forced him to leave the ACN. He was immediately welcomed into the PDP which waived away all rules to immediately give him a leading role in the party which was in opposition in Edo State.
It was a sort of irony. Urhoghide was now fighting his former comrades and allies and doing so from the camp of the former enemies.
Urhoghide’s appointment as the Publicity Secretary of the PDP immediately gave verve and vibe to the PDP which had virtually been discredited on account of the stewardship of the state between 1999 and 2007.
It was thus remarkable that in the period leading to the last National Assembly elections that the senatorial ticket of the PDP became his for the taking especially after Senator Uzamere declined a third successive stint.
Confronted with the Oshiomhole machine in the main elections, Urhoghide overcame and eventually banished the stigma.
Having overcome the demons with his Senate victory it is not surprising that those hoping to return the PDP to the Edo Government House would beckon on him. Is he falling for it, he was asked in an interview.
“I am not aware of that. I must say that everything is not about
contest.” He, however, confesses the desperation of the PDP to win back the office, desperation that it is claimed has made the party to zone the office to his Edo South Senatorial Constituency.
“We are desperate in the sense that we are going to do everything legitimate and within the rules of the game to win the election.”
It would, however, seem that neither his stint in the Senate nor his membership of the PDP has lessened his inclination for political fights. A case in point is his stern posture on the campaign against Senator Ike Ekweremadu’s election as Deputy Senate President.

“It is very derogatory to accuse senators of forging the standing rules. It also calls into question the integrity of the Senate,” Senator Uroghidie said as he warns of dire actions against the senators that externalised the issue.
“The business and procedures of doing things are clearly stated. By the constitution, the Senate has the power to decide what it wants to do. There is no other body that can interfere in the affairs of the Senate. So, if you are going to the police or the SSS to look at what we are doing, it then means you have not properly
looked at the necessary laws and statutes. I believe ethics and privileges committee will look at it.”
Even more pointedly, the senator blasts the APC federal administration over its dithering procrastination in forming a government.
“What is more annoying is that they are trying to rationalize this ineptitude rather than apologizing to Nigerians that they have not been able to do certain things because they didn’t have a proper grasp of the workings of government. It is better to say we are understudying government in order to take off.
“By March 29, 2015, Mr. President knew he had won the election. He also knew that there was not going to be any legal tussle as the erstwhile president had capitulated to him completely. So, if after more than four months and he is still telling us that he will submit the list of ministers and make other appointments by September, I’m afraid a lot is wrong. That is six months, 180 days.”
Flaying the seeming stance of the president to run a government of saints as an impossibility, the senator said the administration’s dilly-dallying is hurting the government locally and internationally.
“They keep saying that they are taking their time when the president knew that he would take oath of allegiance two months before he was sworn-in. What are you planning? Are you waiting for agents to descend from heaven before you can draw a list of ministers? Are you going to solve the problems of Nigeria in one day? Are you looking for people you think are too saintly that you want to appoint as secretary to the government or as chief of staff or ministers?”
Pointing at a major flaw in the president’s failure to constitute his cabinet he noted the recent state visit to America where the Nigerian team did not have a ministerial delegation to match that presented by President Barack Obama.
“You can see a betrayal of officialdom and bureaucracy in that. Our own Secretary of State should have met with the American Secretary of State, not the president jumping into a meeting with him. It is an embarrassment to the country.

PoliticsToo Much Talk About Probe, A Distraction, Kukah Tells Buhari by Islie(op): 3:49am On Aug 13, 2015
From Iheanacho Nwosu,Abuja

CATHOLIC Bishop of Sokoto Diocese and spokesman of the General Abdulsalami Abubakar-led National Peace Committee, Rev. Matthew Hassan-Kukah, yesterday advised President Muhammadu Buhari not to be distracted from the core business of governance on account of too much talk about probe.

Speaking after a meeting between the committee and the Speaker of the House of Representatives, Hon. Yakubu Dogara, Kukah said though bringing treasury looters to book was important, government must place premium on providing the desired governance. The visit was led by Gen Abdulsalam.

The bishop acknowledged the damaging effect of corruption on the country, stressing that it has set the nation backward on all fronts . However, he emphasized that it is also necessary that Nigerians including those in power do not get distracted from the core mandate of governance and the contributions of former President Goodluck Jonathan to the sustenance of peace which the country is enjoying today.

His words: “There is no such thing as probe in a democratic setting like ours. What obtains is investigation, and once people lead and things are not right, investigation becomes necessary.

“However, in doing that, we must never be distracted from the spectacular actions undertaken by former President Jonathan. He is an individual. I think this whole thing about probe can be ascertained once investigations are concluded. But we are saying that a lot of talks and speculation about this probe are the distractions nobody needs.
“So, the most important thing is that we need a stable country first, before we can talk about these things. And they will have happened down the line”, he said.

On whether all is well between the executive and legislature given the succession of the committee’s visit to both the Presidency and the National Assembly, the Catholic Bishop said things are not the way they ought to be in the polity.

He said: “Everybody knows that things are not the way they ought to be. We are just trying to encourage people that let’s get on with this business of fixing this country. Let’s get to the business of realising the change that we dreamt of. And also most importantly, let’s get down with the business of co-operating with God so that Nigeria can move forward.

“I think that is what ordinary Nigerians are expecting, this is what they voted for. The truth of the matter is that time is not on our side. Our responsibility is to encourage politicians to do what they were elected to do,” the Catholic bishop said.

Kukah said the meeting with the Speaker was part of the committee’s consultations which he noted, were aimed at getting a feel from the stakeholders about their thinking of the National Peace Committee and its role.

He noted that “we were set up to deal with the issues of national elections, and we successfully concluded. And the consultations are to help us redefine the role of the committee in order to sustain our democracy”.

The bubble burst after the victim was left clutching the air, in an exasperating wait that ended with a petition to the EFCC.

One Joe Onwudimowei, an accomplice who operates the account of Total Intership Nigeria Limited with Guaranty Trust Bank (GTB) where the proceeds of the said fake contract was deposited, was arrested on 18th June, 2015 and upon interrogation, fingered Idowu Olanrewaju and one Otunba Yemi Osho as the people he handed over all monies that passed through the account.

On the 19th of June, 2015, the duo of Idowu Olanrewaju and Yemi Osho were arrested following a dawn raid on their homes by operatives of the EFCC.
According to Onwudimowei, Olanrewaju sometime in 2010, instructed him to withdraw the sum of Three Million, Five Hundred Thousand Naira (N3, 500, 000.00) for Chief Yemi Osho. Osho, he claimed, in turn handed over the money to two people sent to him by Olarenwaju.

This singular involvement of Osho was what made Olanrewaju confess to the fraud as he had initially denied knowing Onwudimowei. When Olanrewaju was confronted with the testimony of Osho, sources at the EFCC disclosed that he was speechless and began to plead for mercy.

Olanrewaju who does not have any reasonable source of income was discovered to have several properties in Port Harcourt, Rivers State and a 44 rooms hotel in Ado Ekiti, Ekiti State. Also recovered from were a number of exotic cars including, a 2014 Range Rover, 2013 Honda Crosstour, 2013 Range Evogue and Honda CRV.

Spokesman of the EFCC, Wilson Uwujaren says the suspect will be charged to court as soon as investigation is concluded.

PoliticsDavid Mark Secretly Begs Dan Onjeh To Withdraw Case From Court by Islie(op): 11:24am On Aug 12, 2015
Former Senate President, David Mark is allegedly making moves to persuade his opponent in the last election withdraw the suit against from court.

Mark of the Peoples Democratic Party and Dan Onjeh of the All Progressives Congress contested the Benue South Senatorial seat in the March 28 National Assembly election.

Mark was declared winner of the election, which his opponent claimed recorded several irregularities.

Mark’s opponent and flagbearer of the APC had approached the court, seeking dissolution of the poll.

Onjeh was subsequently granted permission by the court to inspect the electoral materials and amazingly, in the course of the inspection, it was detected that the number of votes announced in favour of Mark was more than accredited voters.

At the adjournment of the last sitting, the Tribunal granted Onjeh the leave to tender his last document.

However, Mark was expected to appear in person at the court on Monday to defend the election that brought him to power for fifth term.

DAILY POST recalls that while some of his witnesses failed to show up at the court, those who were present disappeared before the hearing.

However, information available showed that Mark had reportedly sent some of his associates to beg Dan to withdraw the petition in order for them to have brotherly chat.

Our reporter gathered that efforts to sit Onjeh down for a one-on-one chat with Mark by his associate had being futile, as the opponent seems to be adamant and was not ready to shift ground.

“Onjeh is not ready to meet with or entertain any offer from Mark and his loyalists. They have tried as much as possible to bring him for a one-on-one meeting with Mark but it did not yield any fruit,” a source said.

When this newspaper contacted Onjeh, he confirmed that some close associates of the former Senate President had being wooing him on his behalf to give up on the case but that he was not ready sell his mandate.

“Like I said earlier, I won the election convincingly and we are on our way to reclaim our stolen mandate. No retreat, no surrender,” Onjeh averred.

However, when DAILY POST contacted an aide to the former Senate President, he laughed off the claim.

“Anybody who thinks Mark will beg Onjeh is dreaming. Beg him for what, that he did not win the election or what? Let them go and check the margin and stop dreaming. Senator Mark is too busy to stoop so low,” the aide who would not want his name in print told our reporter on phone amid serious laughter.

Just because these men meditate during the election time for GEJ to accept the outcome of the election doesn't mean they would be a tool in the hand of the former president......
