Politics › Re: Jonathan Will Be The Catalyst Of Change In Nigeria by ISpiksDaTroof: 5:11pm On Jan 06, 2014
Afam4eva: The title of this thread will come as a rude shock to a lot of people considering the fact that i'm neither a sycophant nor a paid agent of Jonathan and what i'm about to say here is not necessarily related to developmental strides of Jonathan which is not obvious to a lot of us.

I won't join the bandwagon of those folks who keep telling us how Jonathan has changed Nigeria in his short stay as president. Jonathan is not a saint and has not lived up to the expectations of majority of Nigerians but neither did our past leaders including Obasanjo. But if there's one reason why i will want Jonathan to continue as our president, it's due to the fact that him being a president presents us with a new political dimension from what we've had for decades now.

Ordinarily, someone of Jonathan's caliber would not have mounted the exalted seat of the presidency if not for the fate that befell his former boss, Yaradua. When Yaradua was presented to Nigerians, those that chose him wanted a vice president for him and they wanted someone that would be seen but not heard. They needed someone who would do their bidding without asking questions. They had the opportunity of presenting the likes of Donal Duke, Peter Odilli who were more more popular as far as that region was concerned but instead they went for a Jonathan who was the governor of a Bayelsa state and who didn't exactly have the political clout as he got to that seat due to what befell his oga at that time.

So, we were presented with Jonathan and many of us top he would remain a figure head under Yaradua but as fate could have it, Yaradua died and Jonathan had to fill that void. I'm not sure this is what the political heavyweights or the cabals who put him there were expecting. They had a game plan and Jonathan becoming Nigeria's president couldn't have been part of the plan. The political atmosphere was boiling as at when Yaradua died and those in power were hesitating to give Jonathan the full powers to take up from where Yaradua stopped and that was because Jonathan did not belong to that caucus of political leaders who had held the nation to ransom and they knew Jonathan could squash their plans.

When they eventually gave Jonathan the power to become a substantive president, a lot of people were expecting him to cause a political revolution and this was what necessitated the protests by civil society groups for him to be made the substantive president. Some months after Jonathan was made the president, a lot of people were disappointed cos it seemed Jonathan was going the way of his predecessors and a lot of people called him a weak and ball-less president cos he was very slow at making decisions and they felt he was receiving order from God knows where. Over the years, i have watched Jonathan grow in confidence and it can be seen even in his boldness when being interviewed on TV.

Today, Jonathan has become more bold by the day and it seems to be that he has started making decisions independent of those cabals that put him there. I think this is the first step of moving away from the status quo. We have seen the ramblings in the letter that OBJ wrote Jonathan. We have also heard the likes of IBB, Atiku and other elder statesmen calling for the head of Jonathan. We have also seen people who we thought inherited PDP from their father moving over to the opposition party. I think this calls for celebration because when Satan criticizes someone then that person must be doing something right.

Jonathan may not be the best leader we can have. Far from it. But i think he represents a paradigm shift from the status quo that has been molded by the cabals who have held this nation to ransome since 1970.
This is like how he had no shoes, right? "If GEJ can be President, anyone can be President". Now the new tactic is he's not "respecting" his Godfathers so the rest of the country should rally around him. Sure! The same IBB he called his mentor? Or the Danjuma and OBJ he routinely praised?

GEJ is in deep shiyt! He chose to dine with demons at the expense of the future of Nigerians and their welfare, he should take his mind games elsewhere and deal with the repercussions of his actions, no one is buying.
Politics › Re: “you May Not Survive This” – Obasanjo Tells Jonathan (another Revelation) by ISpiksDaTroof: 5:01pm On Jan 06, 2014
noblezone: While the country [Nigeria] grapple with the oily grips from the quibble between a political godfather and a political godson, little is made of the actual behind the scene factors that led to the crack in the formerly rosy relationship. Information available to 247ureports.com through sources close to the principal actors within the warring camps reveal what appears an unspoken truth – that dates back to the fall of Biafra to the Nigeria troops led by the then Olusegun Aremu Obasanjo in Owerri, the then capital of the federal republic of Biafra.

According to the consortium of sources who spoke on the true causative factors responsible for the turn in demeanor in the former People Democratic Party [PDP] godfather, General Olusegun Obasanjo towards President Jonathan, indicate that the chief reason for the effort to halt Jonathan’s presidency before 2015 points to the formerly agreed upon policy towards the former eastern region – which later became the Biafra territory – that then lost the war the Nigerian troops.

According to a competent source, the self – acclaimed victors of the Nigerian civil war, the likes of Buhari, Babangida, Obasanjo, Gowon, Murtala Mohammed and company – had an agreed upon policy of under-development of the region – to aide sedated the urge for another agitation group to find its footing. The policy was particularized for the south east zone.

Such policies focused on denying the region of an international airport, ability to source crude oil and refine, ability to access international trade and technology – among other sensitive developmental vectors. Through the successive government that followed after the military fall of the Biafra effort, the policy was implemented without error. Obasanjo’s regime during the civilian era ensured that the marginalization policy remained unchanged.

The talk of locating an international airport at each geopolitical zone in Nigeria saw a defiant Obasanjo when the discourse included South East region. The Obasanjo regime also saw the placement of an oil refinery in the South East as going against the agreed upon policy of the winners of the Nigeria/Biafra war. The exploration of crude oil deposits around the Kogi/Enugu/Anambra belt remained abandoned during his regime.

The surprise and uncharacteristic coming of Dr. Goodluck Ebelemi Jonathan to the presidential seat brought an anomaly into the equation. The said owners of the country did not expect what his presidency may result to – as per the agreed upon policy towards the south east region. Obasanjo had promised his “co-owners” that he would be able to “control” the excesses of President Jonathan – “that Goodluck was his boy” and will be held with a short leash. Obasanjo’s northern partners were able to rest their nerves in that President Jonathan will serve a mere one term and that by 2015, he will step down from the mantle of leadership and allowed for the owners of Nigeria to continue along the path already set out by General Gowon.

A source close to Obasanjo told 247ureports.com that the former head of state had stated in serious discussions that Jonathan chances putting Nigeria at risk over his conversion of Enugu Airport to International Airport because of the history of the area. He also mentioned the opening of the Orient Petroleum oil drilling and refining services as near treasonable – because it allows the region access to precious cash commodity [as crude oil] should the region chose to declare independence from the Nigerian Union again. The source pointed out that Obasanjo sees himself as a defender of the present day Nigeria dating from post Nigerian civil war. The sources continues that Obasanjo sees himself as responsible for ensuring that the country stays together as one unit. In his mind, the eagerness of the Jonathan presidency to ease the tariff placed against the former Biafran region points to a dangerous precedence that may be copied by other leaders – if not checkmated.

The recent open letter to the President of the federal republic of Nigeria, Dr. Goodluck E. Jonathan by the former president, General Olusegun Obasanjo is believed by our source to be part of the program to halt the trend of easing the economic blockade against the south east and south south region. One of the principal fears – according to the source – concerns the upcoming national census exercise scheduled for 2016. The recent public utterances by the former top boss of the national population commission, Odumegwu, stating that the previous census figures were either wrong or falsified, exacerbated the fear harbored by the self-proclaimed owners of the country. It lead to the likes of Governor Rabiu Kwankwaso into issuing threats to the President charging that he sack the census commission boss – or face the consequences. President Jonathan bowed and unceremoniously sacked Odumegwu.

But Jonathan’s body language of wanting to continue his leadership past 2015 has the former president and one-time coup-plotter unsettled. Both President Jonathan and Obasanjo are reported to have met severally behind closed doors over the upcoming 2015 elections – with Obasanjo impressing on Jonathan that his desire to contest will throw the country into bloody revolution. At a recent secret meeting in Abuja [not Aso Villa], the two were said to have met at a home belonging to a high personality in Asokoro – where Obasanjo continued to remind President Jonathan that he will be embarking on a potentially catastrophic mistake should he continue to be adamant about the 2015 venture. Some of Obasanjo’s northern partners were reported to be present at the meeting – when President Jonathan responded that a truly democratic Nigeria must not be allowed to degenerate to bloody chaos over constitutional rights and freedoms. The President was reported to have made it categorically clear that Nigeria remains a free democratic society for every citizen regardless of which geopolitical zone one originates “justice must fear no evil” – to which Obasanjo retorted, “You may not survive this”.

In the US a small business man has been to a strong educational system, can get access to loans, and the economy is so diversified that you can go into a wide range of activities. The average nigerian hustler can't get loans, probably doesn't own property, and doesn't live in a country with diverse economy that he/she can take advantage of, though this part is changing. Even in the US, when New York was in it's high settler phase

You can see people hawking, a lot of disorder and chaos, If not for archtechture, the picture above can be sold as Onitsha. You can't compare the economic realities of the US today to that of Nigeria today because Nigeria is developing and the US is developed. If you want to be accurate and produce information from your assessment compare developing nigeria to developing america. Austin Texas once had slums hawkers and petty merchants dominating the city.

Even this "Foreigner" realizes the essence of paying taxes, later some people will come and tell me they're "Republican" in nature that's why they evade taxes.

Why can't a man like this be encouraged to go run for the highest office in Nigeria? If APC is smart they will at least contact a disciplined man like this and encourage him to run as vice to another disciplined man like Buhari, with the agreement that Buhari (due to age) would run for only one term, while, say, Fashola runs as Col.Njoku's vice in the next dispensation. This is how u set the country on the right path, promote Unity and confidence in the land again, encourage discipline and eschew mediocrity.

I hope the right person is reading this.

Crassus: Police recruits lament conditions at Oji River Police college -

ENUGU—THE deplorable condition of the Nigeria Police Colleges appears to be a general phenomenon across the country as Vanguard observed what could be described as the worst case of infrastructural decay and total neglect at Oji River Police College in Enugu State.
Besides, the inhuman treatment being meted out to the recruits that undergo training in the college is better imagined than experienced as they are denied basic facilities needed for them to function properly while in the training camp. The police officers serving at the college also suffer the same fate as their barracks are in serious state of decay.
The case of the Police College in Oji River, according to the trainees, is that of many years of infrastructural decay, as no new structure had been built after the inception of the college which started in the early seventies, and there seems to be no plan for renovation of the dilapidated office and hostel accommodations.
During a visit to the college on Wednesday, Vanguard observed that all the internal roads are in deplorable condition while only the office buildings including the office of the Commandant, Police Commissioner Dorothy Gimba, who assumed duty in the college a few months ago, was habitable as they were repainted not too long ago.

At least we have seen efforts aimed at bettering our system.... Yet you spend your entire life condemning them.

GEJ needs more time to fix the mess created by the old fools in the opposition. Until then, Kudos to My president for all the efforts so far... Well appreciated.
GEJ does not need "More Time". Hes a lost cause that has no idea what to do next. I bet anything that GEJ's biggest problem is that he is not "exposed" so he doesnt know what is expected of him in the modern world. Reforming the police, and bringing it to 21st century standards shouldnt take more than 8-12 months. Give the states more responsibilities, with strict oversight (an Ombudsman office) from the Federal Govt. Give the counties, municipals and Local Governments Policing rights too to curb the powers of the State Governors from turning the Police into their own Personal Militias. State Police should only be found (when seen) on the State/Federal Highways/borders of their respective States and should be an elite force; everyday Policing should be left to the local vicinities with power of oversight residing in the hands of an independent committee made up of members chosen by the State Legislatures.

However, this clueless Govt should also realize that without knowing (to a close approximation) how many citizens reside within the country--- and their identities--- effective Policing would be impossible. While (for Privacy reasons--- especially in a despotic state like Nigeria) Im wary of the Govt having the Biometric info of all its citizens, I do understand that in todays Nigeria it would be a necessary evil; at the same time we should protect the future generations from infringements of their rights. To that extent I would suggest that the Government issues out unique identifying numbers to every Nigerian Citizen. While issuing out these numbers, there will be a deadline--- if you do not register within a certain date--- sorry youre not Nigerian.

Biometric Info of everyone above the age of 16 years old that Registers would be taken. These Biometric info could be restricted to just Fingerprints. The purpose of this method will be to effectively identify Nigerians for the betterment of the future; I'll explain why and how.

Assuming a 30yr old man with 2 children under the ages of 16yrs old registers, his fingerprints are taken and him and his minors are issued unique identifying numbers--- now we have the records 2 generations from the same family. Whenever their kids have kids they are also registered---WITHOUT THE BIOMETRIC INFO THAT WAS TAKEN FROM THEIR GRANDFATHER--- and given these Unique Numbers.

The purpose of taking the Biometric Info from just the 30yr old man (and not his minors) is very simple: apart from the fact that it protects the minors from future Governmental intrusions on their person, it also helps the Govt easily identify its citizens, deter fraudulent acquisition of citizenship etc i.e If in 2014 a man registered WITHOUT declaring any kids, in 2035 a "random" person cannot come out of the blues (without proper explanation AND documentation) claiming to be the child of that man and being entitled to Nigerian citizenship. (2) You cannot vote if you are not registered.

However, if in 2014 this 30yr old man registered himself and 2 children. In the future these kids, do not have to do anything other than register their kids births and acquiring these identifying numbers for them also. The government should also create offices of vital statistics and require the registration of all live births within 365 days ....
