Politics › Re: Genuine Reasons South-south May Shut Down Nigeria If GEJ Loses. by ISpiksDaTroof: 4:36pm On Jan 08, 2015

Asari Dokubo has said it many times that the minimum requirement for the continuation of oil flow out of the Niger-Delta is the re-election of Jonathan. I have no doubt in my mind that if Buhari wins, the militants of the Niger-Delta will return to the creeks and stop all oil activities which will invariably lead to the economic strangulation of Nigeria. The oil and gas wealth of South-south people constitutes over 70% of Nigerias GDP,without them, there is no Nigeria. Contrary to some opinions, the oil and gas wealth does not belong to Nigeria,it belongs to the people of the Niger-Delta. The rest of Nigeria has used the notion of 'one Nigeria' to steal their oil wealth since the end of the war. Should Buhari win this election, it is bye bye oil money and I fully support the Niger Delta people taking back what is theirs. It is an injustice that these people are paying 'to run Nigeria' while the rest are dictating who will rule them. These people don't need Nigeria for anything. So should Buhari and his zone who don't contribute anything to Nigeria win, they will shut down all oil activity.
How has the oil money---with GEJ in power--- benefited the ordinary man in the Niger Delta?

The problem is that perceptions or assessments of "performance" are often subjective and laced with biases. Otherwise, it should be easy to acknowledge that GEJ has achieved significant progress on many fronts - a bigger economy, agriculture, industry/FDI, rail transport, stronger democratic institutions (free and fair elections, freedom of speech and other liberties), etc. Even in terms of corruption, Nigeria now ranks lower on Transparency International's Corruption Index than was the case under Obasanjo.

In the end, the main issue that has been used to discredit and condemn this government is the so called insecurity caused by Boko Haram, which is clearly an artificial problem set up by the North to reclaim power. That is the basis for all the anti-Goodluck noise, and that is why the south south would never accept that their son would be stampeded out of office by such nonsense. If that happens, they would also prove that no region has a monopoly of violence. This is the crux of the matter.

Remove this stage-managed Boko Haram distraction and rate Goodluck objectively based on tangible performance metrics. If he has failed woefully, I'm sure nobody in the South would complain if he loses the election fair and square. But we in the South can see through this so called Boko Haram insurgency and we realise it is a well-orchestrated ploy to make the country ungovernable for GEJ and blackmail him out of office to make way for the parasitic northerners. That is completely unacceptable.
Even though the above has nothing to do with what I originally wrote, I will indulge you a little. For you to say aside Boko Haram GEJ has "performed" is basically you admitting bias, hypocrisy, self deceit and/or not knowing what it means for a society to be properly governed.

Funny textbook analysis. Might of which federal government would descend heavily on who? Lol. Where you not alive when OBJ was in government? How successful was he in quelling the militancy that was then merely in its infancy? How successful has the current federal government been in "descending heavily" on the ragtag Boko Haram? I'm not sure some of you realise what's on ground.

Don't be surprised to find out that these militants can now launch air strikes and missiles and blow up entire naval ships (far-fetched, you think?) Don't be surprised by the advanced weaponry and capacities they now have secretly acquired patiently waiting for Code Red. You think they have been spending their billions on only Benzes, mansions, women, and booze?

The only solution to the impending doom is to apply wisdom in this matter. If the North successfully blackmails and bullies GEJ out of power based on this boko haram insurgency set up, then America's prediction about Nigeria' possible break up this year is likely to come to pass. It is now left for the unproductive and dirt poor North to choose between a mere four more years of Southern presidency or an outright separation from Southern oil and prosperity for ever. Something tells me that the North would prefer the former.
I do not doubt that Goodluck Jonathan has armed his Niger-Deltan brothers to the teeth and that they are waiting for code-red before they start blowing up Naval Ships. What Im saying is if trouble broke out in the Niger-Delta just because the Opposition won, Federal Military might would come into play. If that doesnt work and all out war breaks out, remember that all wars end one day. And once conflict wraps up, I can assure you that GEJ, his wife and his allies like Tompolo will spend the better part of the remainder of their days fighting for their freedom (or better yet, lesser Prison terms) at the International Criminal Court. Asari Dokubo has already talked himself into certain conviction with all his wild utterances, threats and incitements and will definitely be hauled before the court if violence ever breaks out in Nigeria.

I do not understand what you consider "mere 4 years" when it comes to the retrogression of human development. Your govt has done absolutely jackall and you want to give it another 4 years to do what? Completely destroy the country? Let me ask you: Have you ever heard of the term "Impeachment"? Do you know its a clause in your Constitution? The President is NOT required to complete a 4-year term as leader, and the impeachment clause can be invoked if hes not perfoming his duty.

It is you who have problems and are being parochial. The guy who asked about Buhari is the wisest guy in the Nigeria. It shows that he accepts that all the Cluelessness happening around him is nit good enough. That there had to have been something better than what we are seeing in Nigeria. Any young person who thinks the world he sees around himself is as good as it can be is either a FOOL or just being tribalistsic. Every thinking person knows that leadership in the world has gone down considerably since 1914. Fact.
I also try to read about Solomon for instance to understand what wisdom is. Every scientist knows there has not been a major discovery like Einstein's law of relativity since all that time it was discovered.

For anybody to think that Jonathan is even an adversely good President by any standards always worries me, it means that median IQ has fallen in Nigeria. Almost everyone making that assessment is either comparing him with Abacha or is so under exposed about what is happening in the world or what his rights as a citizen are in terms of basic needs that he is actually worse than an animal. Jonathan and his clique are stealing you blind. Whilst they are doing that, they are also giving you the poorly done bridge you should have had in 1986, the train service someone stopped doing in 1990 and the schools they should not even be building in 1995. The funny thing is that they are not doing this well and commensurate with the oil price income of $105 per barrel and you don't see the difference.

To tell you how bad the quality of human beings have fallen in this country and how mentally enslaved we have been, I can tell you the first negative reply to this post would start with the or contain the word "AT LEAST"
I owe you a beer...or a barrel if you like.

So many of the propagandist and supporters of APC think Niger Deltans are fools that recently started being Nigerians, abi? So they will gladly cheer Buhari to victory in a government that will largely benefit Northerners and their Southwest sidekicks while these two regions create socialist policies that will have over 80% of people from these regions benefit while they Niger Deltans will be shouting Sai Buhari abi.. Lol

I like Igbos for one thing, they don't pretend or act like they like somebody when clearly they don't. Only a foolish Niger Deltans will let the propaganda of the APC deceive he/she to vote out Jonathan and replace him with a completely incompetent Buhari, who has shown repeatedly that he is a failure and a beneficiary of nepotism, quota system and the Northern hegemony of long useless leadership of this country.

The politics bringing divisive elements like Buhari is very dangerous and a bomb waiting to explode if people, especially Southerners continue to patronize such politics. Be wise!
How has this Govt benefitted the Niger Delta Region aside from enriching a few corrupt people like Alamesieghia and Patience Jonathan and their cronies?

Keep living in Denial 2015 election is around the corner, Let the North gang up against GEJ if they may, the SS will bite them where it hurts.
Who is this "South South" yall stay screaming about? First off, if you think you'll get the backing of the Ibos your dreams are about to turn into nightmares. Next, in this so called "SS" how many groups do you honestly think will pick up arms to fight a foolish fight shoulder to shoulder with the Ijaws ? Do not deceive yourself, if GEJ loses the worst that'll happen is the Militant beneficiaries of GEJ'S corrupt Govt will try to blow up pipelines because they know funds for Benzes and Mansions are coming to a halt. But you know what will happen if they do this? The might of the Federal Govt will descend on them so heavily it won't be funny. Next--- and we hope they do go ahead and blow up pipelines and cause destruction to people's lives and properties because it'll only make the job eventually prosecuting them easier --- international warrants will be placed for their arrests thereby ensuring that nowhere on planet earth is a safe haven for them if they ever touch a single hair on the body of a Nigerian citizen, or if they even as much as destroy Nigerian property.

So, they can go ahead and destroy and cause carnage as much as they want, but this much I promise you: Eventually they will pay with either their lives or their freedom.

What if PDP goons really sent the email of MEND endorsing Mr.Buhari, thinking it will hurt him, only to see it backfire and create even more support for his Presidential ambition? Dont forget that these are the same PDP crooks that tried to register a rival APC and even sent fake emails of Boko Haram allegedly asking Buhari to become a "negotiator" in a supposed truce with the Federal Govt only for info to be revealed that the whole thing was a scam. Lets not also forget that GEJ claims to Know MEND "very well". So well, in fact, that when a bombing was carried out he exonerated them even when they claimed responsibility. Its also an open secret that GEJ finances militants from his own region, which in essence means he gladly and gleefully promotes terror on the same citizens he falsely swore to protect.

“Therefore any candidacy that may spill ill

Btw. Osinbajo. Let Buhari speak for himself

Abi the grammar pass im power?
Isnt it clear to you--- even if you have the brain of an ant--- that Buhari is showing everyone those in whose hands Nigeria's destiny would be left to? By letting Messrs Fashola, Amaechi, Prof.Osibanjo, Okorocha, Aregbesola and co to the forefront cant you just see through your bias that he is positioning Nigeria for a greater future in which only the best will rise to the top and theres no more room for mediocrity? Cant you see that this is a man that knows his strengths and weaknesses and applies them as needed? He knows more about Security and is also a good director of men--- he is a born leader. He knows less than the EXPERTS about the economy, thus, he chooses to work with those who are more knowledgeable in that regards. Thats what a leader is about. Unlike what you have in Aso Rock right now; a man that cant differentiate his head from his tail and instead of working with others, chooses to throw blames and lies around while destroying and stealing everything in sight.

Nigerians would be pretty silly to not insist on Buhari this time around.

APC is on a long thing in delta state.

GEJ we know... Buhari we have never heard of.
But do you have electricity? Have you or anyone in your lineage ever ridden in a Rolls Royce? Lived in a Mansion or villa? Ever had $100million just sitting in an account? Ever dined on caviar and drank $8,000 15year old vintage champagne ? Yes? No? Can your brain even fathom that a life like that can exist without it going into overdrive and crashing? But youre busy supporting men who live that lifestyle only because they use the money meant for your future to ensure that youre uncomfortable while they are super comfortable?

Youre actually the one on a long thing, you just dont know it. I bet in a few years, when you'll truly understand the hopelessness that your life is--- while you remain slave to the children of those corrupt men you profess love for (just like your fathers were enslaved by their fathers)---you'll then come to terms with your idiocy. But guess what? By then itd be too late.

It s laudable, I'm not saying it is not, but Nigeria can not sustain this at this time. You live in a country with a welfare state, right?

So, you know how these things work.

The money is better spent on those who will find a job, start a business or employ others. Its even better spent on those who have a business, but can expand and employ these people, at a wage more than N5000 per month each.

Its like eating your seeds, instead of planting a tree, that will bear both fruits and more seeds.
I think your misunderstand. He never said "I will give you money forever so you don't have to work again". What was said, basically, is: "We will try to alleviate the sufferings of the poorest of our masses (which unfortunately make up a majority of our citizens) starting from the Children --- by providing them free meals so they that they can learn in peace and on a full stomach so them and coming generations don't get to learn on a empty stomach so that they don't end up in poverty and hopelessness like those before them because we know nobody learns on a hungry stomach. Next, we will try to provide for the old, invalids and unemployed and women as much as we can. In the process we will create jobs that'll ensure your dignity is intact, you get paid better, and you will not have to beg again for anything in your---not even from the Govt --- life so long as you're a Nigerian citizen". Finito.

Nobody with an atom of dignity wants to be on welfare. And I know Nigerians to be very prideful people, they hate to be beggars. But at this point, they need someone and something to sustain them and get them out of the poverty mentality so that they can become better and more productive citizens. And if Govt assistance for the poorest majority--- instead of private jets and Bentleys for a corrupt few--- is the solution, then so be it.

I am talking about people who are working, not the poor that GMB is seeking to help with this welfare strategy.

The only people that I know for sure pay taxes are civil servants and other working directly for the gov. Others do, but there is no robust system of taxation that spans the whole country and covers all working people or businesses.

There is a tax threshold in all countries that have a welfare state. If you are below the threshold you don't pay tax. Even for those above it is calculated at different rates, depending on your salary/wage. People who are self employed pay taxes too.

Nigerans, will always, always, never agree that individuals should pay tax, yet with the same lips talk about welfare that they should experience.

Ofcourse they will cite western countries to agrue what they should get, but never what they should GIVE.
What they are trying to do is financially empower the citizen starting from the poorest. Hungry people will not learn and hungry people will not think critically; basically, hungry person=non productive citizen. Welfare doesn't mean they get to stay on it forever, it means you get a stepping stone to better things and a fighting chance in life. Note also, for example, that for the NYSC graduates the plan is to assist them financially for 12 months meaning in that period they will most likely find a job that pays better. These are signs of a serious government that means business and loves it's people.

This is a laudable project and I think it should be supported. It can work. Especially if corruption is seriously attacked.

I get your point, but lets be true to ourselves, Nigerians want something for nothing, ALWAYS.

Even when they go to countries where there is a welfare state, many simply try to scam the government. If not that the gov takes tax from source, many Nigerians abroad will not pay it.

I have heard here on NL many times, Nigerians complain about the fact that you have to pay tax abroad and cite it as a positive for Nigeria, that they are not made to pay tax.

Yet they want the benefits of a welfare state.

The notion that welfare curbs crime, is untrue and unfounded. Otherwise countries that have a welfare state, would be crime free.

Besides, Nigerians will take the N5000 and still commit crime. We are talking about N5000 per family, which is how much in a family of four? N312.50 per week, per person.

I'm pretty sure, a job (even as a megard) pays more than that.

By the way, you did not address my question about whether Nigerians are ready to pay tax?

Nowhere in the world, does the citizen say that they will pay tax after the gov has provided a welfare state. A welfare state is funded by the citizen, the government designs systems and decides how the money is used.

The citizen mobilises the governmnt, and they have no choice but to pay tax. The gov gets the tax before they get their share of the money they actually worked for.

Its not just income tax, its council tax, road tax, water rates, property tax, inheritance tax, business rates/tax. This is a DIRECT transfer from the citizen to the governments coffers, which the gov then uses to provide social amenities, from unemployment welfare, tax credits (for those working), child benefit, road repairs, libraries, parks.......you name it, the taxpayer is paying for it before they get it.
So, tell us how much you want folks that can't even afford two meals in 3 days to pay in taxes?
