i mentioned a corrupt fuel subsidy and exchange market that promotes rent seeking. Nothing is wrong with subsidy IF you can afford it. Whether it's truly back or not is not the problem. The problem is, is it affordable by the government? It makes sense for some subsidy to be paid so that the price of fuel per liter stays down and doesn't fluctuate every other week, at least till the currency ups and downs become stable. According to reports, the quantity of litres consumed is about half. That's one. The government is making like double of what they were making before, so they have more room to afford payment. That's commonsense. If i double your salary, it's easier for you to afford what you could not.
Thirdly, from the rumors, it's even a different arrangement to pay for the alleged subsidy.
As for Lagos state, like you said, you were young. Tinubu laid the foundation and the masterplan for all that Fashola 'achieved'. Subsidy should go, it should have gone since 2012, but the party you support prevented it, used it as a propaganda against PDP knowing fully well that preventing its removal was detrimental to our country. Then come back to it after much damage and rot has happened, debt at an all time high, billions of dollars borrowed for no visible project and schemes and then remove it without due diligence only to go back to subsidizing it again.
The problem now is that fuel is subsidized again at its current price and Naira is being backed as well with our foreign reserve after it was floated even at its current value. Why then did the people have to go through unnecessary suffering for nothing. Things can't get better with this present situation. Then multiple tax being introduced to almost everything while we lack basic amenities. Electricity subsidy has been removed as well.
Despite the numerous subsidy removal we still borrow for elephant projects while nothing is done to provide security for the masses they want to tax to death. Farmers can't farm, there's shortage of food and hunger but u borrow money for building projects that won't affect the people's immediate need. A lot of communities don't have access to clean water, what has been done to this urgent need? Nothing! We don't farm enough to be self sufficient and the lives of those that do aren't secured, what has been done about it? Nothing! Fulani bandits that choose not to kill this farmers tax them heavily and the government tax this same farmers without stopping this bandits and what have been done about it? Nothing! 9 years of APC rule and at no point have the people enjoy any positive impact of the government. So what exactly are we debating here?

There are better ways to help the common man. Slash import duty on agricultural produce such as rice, wheat. and poultry to 20%. This will bring down the price of food. Presently, the import duty on wheat is 70%. Imagined if it was 20%? Bread would be much cheaper. The government may also generate as much as $1bn as import duty.

You said it's good that this government removed subsidy claiming landing cost would have created a huge deficit while the person you quoted was saying it would have been better it was left the way it was.
Landing cost would have almost remained the same if the Naira wasn't floated and subsidy was left in place. The change in landing cost is as a result of bad implementation of this two policies.
