ojeysky: @Itsrm is right; what was suspended is the additional levy that govt intend to implement and they've just changed implementation date to August. The 35% and other charges still stands and at the new crazy rate of 770.
Nevertheless, there are indications that they may remove the 15% levy that makes up the 35% to reduce the impact of the fx changes on total clearing cost.
However, in Nigeria when an increase is to be implemented by govt, it's done promptly but reduction will take more time unfortunately. The new sherif is in town - the tax collector himself They had better remove it. The numbers I'm seeing with 771 are scary. My vehicle I cleared with 1.9m less than a year ago is now 4.05m naira. Just imagine buying a car in June hoping to clear with 1.9m only to be quoted 4m when it arrives. |

nurey: 1. There is no cheap fix for cars anymore. All the issues are related to fuel consumption, fixing all will give you cost savings. one you have to buy new catalyst 200k or Spacer 25k to solve that.
two your spark plug may be bad 3500 for a single one, if the plug doesnt work then change the coil which is around 5k for tokunbo
three your charcoal cannister otilo
four O2 sensor tokunbo is 15k for your veghicle.
2. Cut your coat according to your size, sell your 2.4L engine and buy cars that can give you 6L/100km (1.1L-1.4L) thank God their are many cost effective and reliable brand out there. 25k just to hide CEL? Pure waste of money |

oliverjiad: Good afternoon my people
It as come to our notice from the office of the president by the president spokes man[DELE ALAKE],that levy on vehicle from 2000 capacity upwards as been suspended and in line with the customs house hopefully we would give full details of what as been agreed
I urge Nairaland family and the importers and exporters,to stay calm for the glorious update soon, hopefully by Monday There is no glorious update anywhere. The levy they are suspending is the additional 2% to the existing 35%. Daily Trust learnt that under the new tax regime, imported vehicles with 2000cc (2 litres) to 3999cc (3.9 litres) engines will pay an additional charge known as Import Adjustment Tax (IAT) of 2 per cent of the value of the vehicle while vehicles with 4000cc (4 litres) and above engines will attract IAT of 4 per cent of their value. The new levy is in addition to the 35 per cent import duty and 35 per cent levy being paid by vehicles importers. https://dailytrust.com/tinubu-orders-suspension-of-extra-levy-on-some-imported-vehicles/#:~:text=04%3A24%20WAT-,President%20Bola%20Ahmed%20Tinubu%20has%20ordered%20the%20suspension%20of%20Import,measures%20and%20multiplicity%20of%20taxes. |

raumdeuter: Could the bold be because the majority of the people support the end goal of the agitators and partly believe they are freedom fighters with the evil Nigerian govt tagging them as terrorists That's one aspect of it. Look at Hope Uzodinma for instance, he can't win any election that is free and fair in IMO state. Part of his offence is that he brought the Nigerian Army to kill innocent Igbos in Orlu. |
European Football (EPL, UEFA, La Liga) › Re: EPL Chatroom - All Discussions by Itsrm(m): 1:08pm On Jul 06, 2023 |
raumdeuter: Oasisx this is what I have been telling you
When Tinubu sends soldiers that's when you will start hearing that UGM was just a bunch of boys doing MINOR or Zero damages before Tinubu brought soldiers to kill innocent people. You will see how they will turn it into "mere sit at home" before Tinubu in his hatred brought murderers
Now we are hearing that IPOB didn't do much bad in Rivers State that it was just harmless sit at home despite killing policemen
Kanu was ordering hits on policemen and police posts while in exile yet they are here telling us that the movement was peaceful until Buhari arrested Kanu
Go to many online postings some are even claiming that it's Tinubu and external forces sending those UGM to kill that is before any FG force. Imagine what the narrative will be when FG actually send troops
SE leaders must be fully onboard and get their approval before anything happens otherwise it might degenerate into a full blown Civil War again with the SE elites sitting comfortable in their mansions tweeting, news conferencing and egging the youths to continue agitation The governors won't do it. They are only concerned about the next election. They know what needs to be done but they also know it's the easiest way to lose the next election. I once watched an interview of Amaechi where he said any governor that tells you he does not control the military and police is lying. When it's time to use the same military and police to rig elections, they know how to do it. The powers they have over the law enforcement agents is not absolute but they definitely have some form of control. |

Theflint1: Sure, speaking up will be done, but no matter how much speaking gets done, if the C-in-C for whatever reason doesn't want to move, nothing will be done. Soludo and other South East leaders spoke up about the IPOB menace in the past administration, made suggestions on an approach to curb the menace and there was nothing from the centre in the way of letting them know they'd been heard.
A lot of things in Nigeria are top-down, and sadly, handling a menace like IPOB requires a top-down approach.
At the start of the whole IPOB sit-at-home thing, there were attempts at enforcing same in Rivers, but not just Rivers, Delta too, those that are quick to mention Wike as responsible for quelling the sit-at-home forget the sit-at-home thing didn't take root in Delta either. Maybe they too will credit Okowa for squashing IPOB, or maybe acknowledge that IPOB can't enforce sit-at-home's where they don't have numbers like that, and Wike's "show of force" was simply Wike being Wike, eager to show himself as an action governor... the same way the idiot was demolishing structures during the lockdown. Even in the core South East states where the sit-at-home is being enforced, there are differences in levels of compliance and attacks (they seem to be targeting rural areas). Don't even attempt to rewrite history. It was never about sit at home at the time. Policemen were slaughtered in day light and at night, the governor declared a 10pm to 6am curfew immediately and closed all borders in and out of the state. He launched a full scale offensive attack on those IPOB miscreants using the military. The soldiers of course were happy to be brutal because their colleagues had been murdered in Oyigbo. The families of slain policemen were compensated with 20m naira each. You see me defend Wike here, this was the major thing he did that endeared him to me. Let any governor in the East offer a reward of 33m naira to the family of any soldier or policeman killed by UGM then you'll see how happy they will be to lay their life on the line to eradicate the madness. If only those governors were as eager to show action as you put it, we won't be where we are today. The best time to act was immediately the madness started. Give the man his accolades. It won't take anything away from you. |

Emaprince: What? You no dey use light, abi you no dey stay house when you close from work? We have light 12-15 hours daily. We get to the house between 6 and 7pm. The children and by extension everyone goes to bed by 8:30pm. Only thing that's on during the day till we come back is the fridge and rechargeable fans. Every other thing is turned off The children and madam are very susceptible to cold so no AC at night. I use the rechargeable fan over the night. Since it can rotate, I position it in a way that the effect on the kids will be as low as possible. All my light bulbs are energy saving and I don't use electric cooker. I use a dry cleaner so iron is used occasionally. Weekends is when I use electricity the most. Thankfully, that's just 8 days a month My monthly usage is less than N3,000 so 30k should easily last one year or at worst 10 months. |

BlueRayDick: It’s worse than that bro.
I know someone whose official Landcruiser prado was seized around 2018/2019 cos of this customs duty wahala.
He was traveling along Lagos Ibadan-Expressway and he was stopped by customs who asked his driver for the vehicle papers which included customs papers. The customs officers told him point blank the customs papers were not genuine and he had a case to answer .
He called his dealer who sold the car and the fooolish man instead of coming out clean told him the customs guys just wanted to exploit him. So alaye stood his ground and didn’t hesitate to follow the customs guys to their office .
It was much later it dawned on him that the dealer didn’t pay the required duty on the vehicle ( which was a luxury vehicle and attracted 70% of the current value of the vehicle as duty ). The dealer just bribed the customs at the port and they arranged paper for him.
Now he has to pay 70% of the vehicle’s current value which had since gone up due to the recession of 2017-2018. Till date the vehicle still dey customs office . Alaye don move on and had to buy another vehicle . Is it not even funny that the same customs who cleared the car for passage at the port is the one impounding the car on the highway. These are the things we were hoping the e-valuation will finally solve but they deliberately omitted some cars from their database so they can still give manual valuation. And the dealer is just evil. You can still get reduced valuation and not have it impounded as long as you're reasonable with it. This is why verification of customs duties is very important for anyone buying a Tokunbo car. Customs no dey hear abeg o. |

How bad is it if it turns out not to be in the database? Choppings for customs. They will give you one ridiculous amount of money and say it's the value of the car. You either pay it or bribe them to reduce it. And you know as customs bribe dey be. By the time you do your plus and minus, you'll realize paying them the bribe will still save you like 150k. Faced with paying whatever amount they give or bribing them and paying 150k less, your guess is as good as mine the option most car dealers will choose. |
