BlueRayDick: The devaluation has affected a lot of things that people are not even talking about.
Early this week I worked on a procurement which we processed this same time last year when we overvalued the dollar at N700/1$ (out of our own volition ) .
That same transaction we had to value at N1500/1$ out of necessity now.
I had to do analysis/shalaye in the mail to the oyinbo oga that was going to approve it for him to see that the dollar value remains the same but na naira don pafuka shoot the price up to an increase of 114% of what it was last year in naira .
I fear people will lose jobs in the private sector in the coming months ; especially in companies where they don’t really have a working organized union . Promoters of companies will explore retrenchment as means of staying afloat . A lot of companies will even default on credit facilities ; banks’ business recovery units go tire sef I heard most companies mark up their procurement with a 300 naira premium just to guard against devaluation. Like as dollar is around 1500 now, they wiill record it as 1800 in their books. The real shege will start when new products hit the market. |

Jodera: The bolded, I see it as something new gen z upbringing sha. In our family we don't do it and even while growing up, I nor my siblings weren't exposed to such sha and we didn't see any big deal in that. But no matter how we want to look at it, it's still luxury. It's just one of those luxury instilled as necessity by most parents. Just as some people can't do without having/subbing DStv in their home because they think it's necessity.
As for the others, aside personal surfing which I use on my phone, most of the others is just once in a while and it's not most families that have this home internet sef. Average Nigerian family man doesn't have smile or swift at home in this our obodo naija. As for Smart TV... Lol, that's really luxury. Except one have it before cos he's once Rich, what would make a family man earning like let's say 200k have smart TV when he can buy normal wall Lcd TV?
Na egbons full here oo They told me in my sons school he was always looking at his classmates when they munch their snacks and advised we also buy for him. I had no choice. Is it really luxury? What alternative do I have. Tell him not to look at them when they eat? |

Look at how this argument has gone on for pages. 600k a month salary before APshit would have made you conveniently fly to any country of your choice for vacation as long as you have visa. You could easily buy a brand new Nissan(cost about 3m then) Now we are debating whether 600k will last one month |
European Football (EPL, UEFA, La Liga) › Re: EPL Chatroom - All Discussions by Itsrm(m): 2:06pm On Feb 09, 2024 |
BlueRayDick: This is a fair view of the matter . For someone who has been earning 600k before subsidy was removed and dollar floated , he will struggle to adjust to the new realisty.
However for someone what has never earned close to that region of income before , if he starts earning 600k today he will be more than happy to even add more expenses instead of cutting down on his expenses . Exactly the point Prospa seems to be looking at it from the viewpoint of the bolded and he's right. It's not just the only viewpoint. |

GloriousGbola: Your school fees are off. Way off. Imho sha. Add cooking gas one cylinder per month. Add something for the dad. Booze, suya something. That data will only work for a disciplined person living alone. Add kids into the mix and You also need to add something for unexpected /emergency. Like too small? I thought so too but he still has like 100k+ left in his calculations. So if you adjust accordingly, you'll still come to the conclusion that it's just enough to get by if you don't mind not saving money and all you do is pay bills while living a fairly decent life. |

liveLongNprospa: Would you say your current salary is enough or you need to cut your coat so it becomes enough? 600k might not be enough to sustain the lifestyle of someone who was earning it before, but it's okay to sustain the life style of someone earning 50k before which is where Izzous point comes in. You see it's not absolute. Look at the breakdown Theflint1 just posted. It's truly not a lot or money in today's Nigeria but its just enough to bet by. |

If you've been living comfortable with 600k and now with the surge of things, it's okay to complain that 600k is no longer enough for you if you re a family person..

It's sad to say this but I don't think 💬 it'd get any better, it'd only go to worse from here in..
So everybody should fasten his seatbelt and expect the worse while praying 🙏 for the best It's still a much better position. We were just discussing this at work today. That we will prefer a reset to 2018 when we were earning a far lower salary but that lower salary was more than enough. .....major problem is; we are too wise in Naija. If one door is closed, we go still find another door by fire by force. LOL! The main problem is this. CBN is still not allowing us convert Naira to Dollar at the bank. So what happens when people need dollar for importation? They go to the black market. I just pray this thing does not backfire. If not, we will soon see N2500 to a dollar. |

OasisX: ....black market will díè naturally soon. If I hear. I already posted about it here before it's now going viral Itsrm: Rebounding Naira
Meanwhile you can no longer receive dollar payouts from the bank when you receive money through western union and the likes
The bank converts it to Naira for you at their own rate and will give you the Naira equivalent.
Before now, they could pay out dollar, then you hand it over to Aboki to get the best value for money.
I guess the whole idea is to increase the amount of dollar supply in official channels. What these mugus don't seem to realise is, no one will use western union any longer. People will simply open domiciliary accounts to receive money and then send to Aboki.
Except the bank rate is considerably higher than Aboki rate which is very unlikely. |
