You be insider bro. MSF has funding that rubs shoulder with UN but pay isn't good. They believe you doing it as an humanitarian and not to make money. My best friend and flatmate works there. Don't compare their pay with UN. They don't even match up to INGOs like IRC, Mercy Corps, NRC etc
tito44:

Lol... In MSF, a log supervisor is in grade 6, the take home is around 260k+, in UN, a log assistant takes 700k+. Msf don't even pay anything compared to UN, iFRC, ICRC etc

Perdiem for msf is a misery 3k per night. UN is like times 15 of that for a night.

Summary: a manager in MSF does not earn anything close to an assistant in UN agencies

Sorry, my bad. I get you now. You're correct.
Focusmind:

You didn't get me properly. I said getting there is usually competitive. I cant remember saying that the pay of all those NGOs are higher than that of UN. I merely listed other NGOs and INGOs one could apply to instead of waiting for UN. With experience in those NGOs, one could leverage on that and apply to UN. Note also that UN tries to balance nationalities in their staffing composition.

Masters degree gives an edge over others when it comes to INGOs and UN. That's the fact. But experience is the most sought after qualification. Bro, it would be difficult to enter through the global talent program without masters or proven cognate experience, which are mainly for recent graduates with exceptional results.

E go hard o. Maybe SFH and WEWE sha.

There are some local non-profits that are not on this list that rival the payment of the iNGOs

Not entirely true. I just recently resigned from one of the iNGOs you listed here. I handled budgeting and we frequently worked as a consortium with the donors and I know for sure that very few top donors match what UN pays eg USAID, DfID. I have more than a few friends working with WFP and UNICEF in Maiduguri also.
You can get UN job on merit but knowing someone there makes you stand a better chance. You would still have to ace the tests and interviews but it greatly boosts your chance.
The points about getting in through the talent program and having to hold a Master's degree are also incorrect.
Focusmind:
You don't get hired by UN directly except if you lucky to enter through their global talent program which is very competitive. There are international agencies, working in the humanitarian sector in Nigeria, paying more than UN.

Deepen your skills in Data analysis, Monitoring and evaluation, Report writing and graphics, Water, sanitation and hygiene (WASH), Development and conflict management.

Masters degree is a must as it gives you an edge. The sector is fiercely competitive and you have to show strong competitive advantage over other candidates.

Search for job with the following organisations in Nigeria:
USAID
British Council
Danish refugee council; Norwegian refugee council
Plan international
Palladium
RTI
Ford foundation
Christian aid
Caritas
German development cooperation
European union and ECOWAS
Creative associates
Medicine san frontiers
INTERSOS
Save the children

There are many others that I can't remember again. You need to horn your skills with these organisation to make your path to UN easier.

Monguno Road is safer than Maiduguri-Pulka-Gwoza Road, Maiduguri-Dikwa-Ngala-Rann and Maiduguri-Baga Road. Even at such, it baffles me how a sane person would be willing to ply those roads. She's a humanitarian and should make use of UNHAS helicopter service. It is obvious she did a 'monkey pass' so she could celebrate Xmas in Maiduguri. So sad! The car my colleague boarded from Bama to Maiduguri was riddled with bullets. She was the only survivor in the car. Still got fired for doing 'monkey'.
Sirjamo:
I am sorry that she got abducted, but, anyone who willingly ply Maiduguri - Monguno axis must have been ready for anything including instant death.

I don't know how reliable this is. I just spoke with a 10th July candidate whom we attended the interview together from Maiduguri. He said he spoke with a guy who was one set our senior in the same university department. The guy's dad works in the top echelons of NNPC. He told him we should expect APL tomorrow or next. Man was specific. This my friend isn't on nairaland and doesn't have any information beforehand of APL.

I am in Abuja airport currently on my way to Maiduguri with a 12:30pm flight to catch. On the check-in queue and I noticed a familiar face. I knew it had to with NNPC. That was my interview panel chairman, 10th July, Panel 23. GT Accounting. We exchanged greetings and even before I asked, he said and I quote "Is your result out yet?". I replied no, we were hoping it would be out this week, any info sir?. He said he doesn't have any info regarding the recruitment, that even for them NNPC staff, they don't know what is happening. His role was just to conduct the interviews and he wished me luck. He couldn't even assure me if it would be out this September.

I only graduated university 2016 at 21 years and to God be the Glory, I have been to more than 10 interviews; gotten 4 offers, rejected 2 and currently on my 3rd job which pays equivalent of more than a dozen of the new minimum wage after deductions. (I currently work in the Humanitarian sector in the North East, so you can confirm those figures).

This brief overview is not to in anyway brag but to say I can rightly claim knowledge and experience of facing interview panels. And also, lest some people try to dismiss my point of view by saying "Oh your pay won't be more than 50k, so you can't compare the competitiveness with NNPC". I haven't been interviewed by NNPC yet but I can say from the CBT exams I sat for and interview experiences shared by others here, it won't come close to what I have faced, though this doesn't necessarily mean I will pass.

Using my personal experiences as a reference, they were multiple times where I went in before other candidates, came out and told them in details the questions I was asked and still got the job. Damn, it is impossible that we give the same answer to situational questions and because I am giving you the expo doesn't automatically mean you would answer better than I did.

And if you think any of the panel members is here trying to decode psuedo names, just to punish or fail candidates, you are dumb dumb.

There's no half way. If you really believe in your faux integrity, you shouldn't be here in the first place to get any heads up in whatever form. Rely on Google, dress and go for the interview. If you have any questions, call the NNPC Helpline.

Y'all will jot down the points of others and then go ahead to lampoon them for sharing those points.

Hypocrites aye atiii orun nii yin.

Dika kuu munafiqai ne.

Sorry, I can't translate to Igbo grin

I dodged a bullet.

I remember my friend, advising me to put 300k in this. I think it had around 50% RoI as of last year but my inner sense prevailed and I didn't.

And yes, the man has being springing up businesses all over Maiduguri. In fact, his filling station is close to my house and my friend plays for his amateur football club.

Career / Re: I'm Having Eco And First Bank Aptitude Test The Same Day by ItzNas(m): 8:38am On Jan 21, 2019
Eco Bank's aptitude test are in batches. You don't need to write to them, once you miss the batch you were originally scheduled for, you will be automatically rescheduled for the next batch till all the batches are done with.

That's how I have known them to do for the past two years.

Just go for the First Bank's, later you will sit for Eco's.

Right now, my motivation to work is very low. December, I thought what I needed was a break to refresh but I was wrong. I was in Lagos during the festive season and I had fun. I resumed work today, its almost 2pm and I'm yet to treat a single file.

The reason is definitely not the pay because its very very okay.

The environment is becoming too familiar and I'm used to the system.
I think I need a change. Lemme start applying to other places sef.

Jobs/Vacancies / Re: High Paying Contract Job Or State Civil Service: Which Should I Choose? by ItzNas(m): 8:08am On Nov 05, 2018
I was in exactly the same situation earlier this year and I chose the contract job.

I felt the contract job would be a platform to gain valuable experience which will be a launch pad to greater things while earning mad salary.

A govt job only guarantees you highest 60k monthly for a graduate and then what??

You could alternatively accept the govt job and take a leave without pay. That will allow you to go for the contract job while still retaining the govt work. Only that years spent on leave without pay won't be eligible for promotion. I have colleagues who chose this option.

All the best!!

Career / Re: Risks Of A Accounting Career by ItzNas(m): 9:32am On Sep 18, 2018
First of all, this post wasn't written with a Nigerian perspective in mind. Probably American, because the laws and salaries quoted doesn't apply here.

Secondly, I am an Accountant and I have found it rewarding so far, though am yet to be Chartered.

Even an hospital needs an Accountant for better financial management and sound financial record keeping.

Its a very marketable course, though the competition is high. However, I would advice one to acquire knowledge of Excel spreadsheets and some accounting softwares like Quickbooks and SAGE.
