micellgevity: In my honest opinion, I have read and read over and over again, but I still can't comprehend how eNaira is different from the Naira in my bank account that I can transfer to any other bank account. This feature which seems to be the flagship of the eNaira. You are right, the eNaira is primarily to benefit the CBN by reducing the need for paper currency and maybe revenue from transactions. The CBN banned crypto currency in Nigeria, but still went ahead to introduce eNaira which they claim use blockhchain technology. I don't think they know what they want. Crypto and blockchain are 2 different technologies. Blockchain has potential application in defense and even voting systems, processes that has nothing to do with money. You can read more on them. The best the CBN could do for Nigerians is to create an eDollar wallet where everyone will have access to forex without going to bank or bureau de change. This is how I think it should work: 1. You download the eDollar wallet and register. 2. Fund your eDollar wallet with Naira from your Naira bank account. Upon funding this eDollar wallet with Naira, your Naira automatically converts to dollars based on the CBN rate, which you can use to do do international transactions. With this, there won't be any bureau de change or Aboki Fx to speculate the dollar price. The reason being that only the CBN will have control over the rate because the eDollar wallet belongs to them. Also, they will be able to monitor every dollar that goes out of this country for international transactions. There will also be a daily limit to the amount you can transact or transfer. Terrorists can be put under watch as there should be a law banning physical dollars in the circulation. Let all dollar transactions go through CBN eDollar wallet. In my opinion, I think the bereau de change will be out of business, the commercial banks will be boycotted and won't be able to cheat customers, speculators will not have anything to speculate and there will be one common dollar price. This all sounds well and good until you take your time to examine the FX market. Speculation exists because the CBN have very limited supply of dollars which they indirectly admit to. There have always been middle men and speculators even when 1 Dollar was equal to 5 Naira. Your eDollar wallet idea will fail because importers need more dollar than CBN can provide. Suppose the CBN releases 1 million dollar weekly and there are 10 importers in Nigeria who need a total of 2 million dollar each, how are they going to cope? Well, they will get whatever they can via eDollar quickly and exhaust CBN supply. Ordinary Nigerians who aren't fast enough won't get a dime. The businessmen and the public will then have to source for more dollar from black markets and we are back to square one. |

Pierocash: I was saying it when Kanu was arrested and all the South East Leaders kept mute. I said this is the biggest mistake the government will make by trying to keep in him in detention. This guys will cause so much unrest because they are now armed, they will cause unrest to the point that even the leaders will not sleep.
The first time they kept him locked up for over a year, everyone saw the restivness they caused even without arms then, you can imagine the damage they will cause this time around with arms . If the court just grants him bail, and FG refuses to release him like they did the first time, everybody in the south east including government personnels and ministries may smell hell Why are you happy that Fulani terrorists are causing unrest in your land? |

vanbonattel: . A lot of Fulani people working with the DSS can speak fluent igbo, some were recruited because they were born in Onitsha.
They Are The Unknown Gunmen You See Everyday.
Their intent is to use it to cause some havoc, using IPOB as their justification.
They will go ahead and shoot up innocent young people around Anambra state, saying they are disrupting the elections.
They want to use this story to rig Anambra state elections in favor of APC.
Another fulani motive for this propaganda is the money. Do you know how much is realized daily from the numerous checkpoints they are mounting around South east, in the last one month, up to 10 new checkpoints has been needlessly mounted in Anambra state alone, preventing movement, slowing people down and collecting money openly in the long queues.
Check very well, unknown gunmen has been appearing in Anambra state only on popular road junctions, Ekwulobia, Nkpor, Nnobi and other strategic spots in the state, their plan is to spread fear as far as possible, we call it scaremongering. They want everyone to panic and run, testing the resistance of the masses.
They also use several social media outlets, radio and TV news casts to announce all the gory details of the attacks, aiming to scare more people into believing that the state is unsafe.
In Naira land , news against IPOB hit the front page so fast after each attack, with the faces of Igbos killed displayed openly. The latest videos to speak igbo in the terror videos made a lot of people to believe they are desperate to frame IPOB. Are they working under instructions from the information ministry?
What you are seeing in Anambra state is an orchestrated plan to intimidate innocent masses and make them to hate IPOB.
But we're not deceived. Let me borrow the popular Ipob threat. Go to your village and say this about Ipob gunmen, then come back and tell us the scores. Mtchew |

sirusX: I don’t have any info on that. I don’t recall making a statement claiming I know any country where any false accuser is jailed
I am rather of the opinion that they should not go free... as in most cases we see in our country Good. Perhaps, you should have considered the possibility that there are very good reasons why organized countries do not jail "false accusers" One of the reasons being that a "false accuser" can not be determined in almost all cases. That an accuse is freed by the court usually due to lack of evidence doesn't mean the plaintiff is automatically a liar. Even if the government takes your suggestion against better historical precedents, how do you propose a "false accuser" is tried when there is no evidence proving that they lied? |

[quote author=like1 post=107048340]I really had a nice guy as a PhD supervisor. I remember my first ever first author publication, I was a PhD student (so not a staff of the University). The topic was given to me by my supervisor (idea his), he guided me on what and what calculations to do, he followed me up. So I was only doing the calculations and reporting to him. He drafted the manuscript, I prepared some figures which he later totally changed. I was the first author of the publication, his name was the last+corresponding author, another Professor and senior researcher who were part of the discussions were also authors in the paper. You are still arguing as an outsider. As far as I know, PhD program requires students to have publications. The numbers of publications vary by university and country. If this guy had come here to complain that his lecturer wants to hijack the work he needs for his degree, then that would be a different issue. A lecturer supervising a PhD publication process is just doing his job.
[quote]This is how it should be. Nope. Issues should be analyzed based on context. This "research" will rot without the lecturers interest as the OP claims and he wasn't planning on publishing until the lecturer reached out to him. When someone is doing you a favor that is not part of their job and you never expected in the first place, the rational thing to do is to either reject the favor or accept that they will have a stake even a major one in it. Stop treating young researchers and students badly. Yes the student cannot draft up and submit the article on his own, that is why there is a supervisor. Even though the idea of the work was yours, but no one forced you to accept the student, you should have been independent and do the so called 'grunt' work yourself and publish yourself. Nope. For the most part, supervisors aren't there to help you publish papers. Even for PhDs where publication may be part of the program, the level of involvement is still the supervisors prerogative. It is academically unethical (check meaning of unethical as you were asking where the rules are written) Circular reasoning won't help you out here. "It is bad because it is academically bad" does not even qualify as an argument. If a student principally did the so called 'grunt =(lab/field/computer)' work under your supervision and he/she gets 'shortchanged'. You have thrown in another irrelevant word "shortchanged". You can only be shortchanged if someone breached an agreement. In this case, there was no agreement. A lecturer reached out with a proposal. A mature response is not crying about being cheated of something you didn't even know you had. Either accept or reject the proposal. Saying the University needs a staff bla bla, can be sorted out with email correspondence in the article and is not enough reason for the student who did the 'grunt' work not to be the first author. [quote]Where did you get this from?
[quote]We all know publications are not just about doing the lab work, more time is spent on writing, editing and analysing results and going through the publication review process which actually is the work of the supervisor for a 'fresh' student. But then these are not enough reasons to shortchange students. Stop academic maltreatment. Stop feeling entitled. I don't know your PhD specialty but I am sure sentimental reasoning was not part of your thesis. Try to apply similar logical reasoning to this issue so you can see it clearly. |
